on facebook, follow him on instagram and parlor at lou dobbs tonight. i want to thank you for joining us. i am greg jarrett sitting in for thee vacationing lou dobbs. i hope you all have a happy holiday and at very merry christmas. kennedy: breaking his tonight. president trump just announcing a slew of new pardons bird and the presidents haters, their heads are exploding. i will tell you all about it in just a few minutes. got the fullest first up the fight over stimulus checks taking more twists than a cheap phone court in a pretzel factory. only in 2020 could nancy blows the end up siding with president trump and double dog dare republicans to join their side. red rover red rover. this all started last night when the president made an 11th hour demand that congress increase coronavirus payments from the already agreed upon 600 to 2000 a person. king of diamonds, watch this.
8:01 pm
>> i'm asking congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2000, or $4000 for a couple. i am also asking congress to immediately get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items from this legislation. and to send me a suitable bill. >> it all the waste will item every single one done your bench for love democrats claim the president is playing games at people's livelihoods but some agreed them especially old nancy use it as an opportunity to try to guilt her publican colleagues into going along with the president's demand. in a letter to house speaker democrats -- they wrote quote at the president really wants to join us into thousand dollar payments, he should call upon leader mccarthy for a unanimous consent request. congress and my copy to house speaker minority leader has yet to show his hand likely for two reasons. one he doesn't have any hands, just kidding. he does not want to be caught
8:02 pm
agreed with nancy. and two, not all republicans think increase in the tracks is a great idea. among them kentucky republican senator rand paul who said this today on fox and friends. >> i hope he vetoes it. but the only way i would vote for any spending or additional spending as if it came out of existing spending. they don't yet check right now it's a foolish, egg headed, left wing to pass out free money to people. site part ways with the president on giving people free money. we should help those unemployed by extending unemployment. >> that is fine, free money is kind of good. will congress ratchet up the seamless check to appease the president? one of the pluses and minuses of doing so. let's meet tonight's party panel we will discuss the former aide to senator chuck schumer. any podcast host of the aggressive progressive. chris hahn is not that guy that was tom shillue. yea. everyone is tom shillue tonight. it's a fun game we are playing.
8:03 pm
we also reason magazine reason.com editor in chief katherine mangu-ward, there she is so much books on such intelligence he is a comedian and house speaker of the quiz show on fox nation it is tom shillue all right tom shillue you look like a young chris hahn. [laughter] spanky three years older than m me. this is what army? let's talk about that's a little bit tom shillue. the president says he was $2000 per person, $4000 per couple. there's a lot of stuff in that spending bill that is ridiculous, egregious and needs to go away. where would you start cutting? becky hit on all the right points. they should separated. they put everything together but anytime you hear the word omnibus you got to run the other direction. and so they should have a relief bill. it should be separate. it should be just like rand paul said only two people who need it. i like the way he kept repeating free money because
8:04 pm
that is what it is. if you ask people as business owners, employees who have been hurt by these ridiculous shutdowns would you rather have $600, $2000, or your job back? or your pizza place back open, your customers back on the door, they would choose. stomach the pizza place. >> they want, i think the president missed opportunity here free to come back and say open up this country. i think if congress wants to do something, find a way to punish the states that have shut down, that are committing suicide. they are killing their states. they should start punishing them. essentially force them to reopen. >> yes. withhold money. and then make prank phone calls all their leaders to make them cry. i think that every governor and mayor who has broken their own rules needs to resign like deborah birx. epic that is a great idea great place to start.
8:05 pm
i think she's have the right tone for all that. if you screw around and you break when your own rules, you are benched. but katherine let's talk about some the spending offsets. i think senator paul is right about that. we do need some offsets. we need offsets for the offsets. because we cannot even afford what is in the bill right now. let alone adding of the $1400 per person. >> writes. this is always hope goes. when you get something that starts look a little bit like a bipartisan combination make alarm bells go offered chuck schumer nancy placita, aoc and donald trump are agreeing on something, it either means it's the best thing that's ever happens, or it is about to be inexhaustible for the american taxpayer. this is the latter. donald trump is in theory write that direct payments to people in need, not everyone but those in need might be a better use of this money. i fear that in fact there will be no offset, that's usually how this goes.
8:06 pm
everyone just gets more money that comes from nowhere and is increasingly being treated as infinite. we have already dropped trillions and trillions of stimulants but it's not clear how effective those have been. this omnibus filled the covid relief bill within it, are junk. adding additional payments to individuals is not going to solve the problem unfortunately. seafort know but the markets really like it they do. i think katherine is right here, chris. there is this assumption that if you don't give something a lot of money, you don't love it. in fact you hate it. if you don't increase the budget for the pentagon means you hate veterans. and if you don't increase money for the department of education, that means you hate children. and you hate learning. you are a bad person. and probably a racist not see. stock a little bit about
8:07 pm
bringing the sides together. is there something democrats are willing to give up in order to get bigger checks? >> why should they give up anything? they compromise for this bill. they compromised for this bill with the white house. and the president is complaining about expenses in the budget part of this bill. that he proposed in his own budget. aid to egypt, the kennedy center. all of these things are party presidents out budget. was just put it this way, there is no grand strategy hereby donald trump or there's no plan. he's lighting a match and burning the house down as he walks out the door. suspect giving people money is not burning the house down. they were involved with the negotiation of this budget. but the president really was 2000-dollar checks he should get on the phone to mitch mcconnell. they will unanimous consent it right now the house speaker of representatives. and they'll do it in the senate too if the president
8:08 pm
makes mitch mcconnell do. >> i will ask jonathan hoenig about the stemless debacle a little later portal get another libertine solution. first of the gop in full throes in georgia were circular firing squad could lead to the surrender of the senate. here's the problem but republican senators kelly loeffler david pretty both for the 600 stemless check. that the president of med $2000 checked democratic challengers were not conjoined also use their votes to claim that loeffler and perdue don't care about struggling georgia voters. that on top of all the presidents talk about rigged elections and republicans have an uphill battle. so why should they show up to vote? and what they think could be a rigged election for a pair of republicans who vote in spend like democrats. that is a fine question tom shillue. [laughter] >> it certainly is. this thing is, we ought to turn everything over to iran
8:09 pm
fall. is the only guy i seem to be resonating with as an entire season. as far as elections go parts before you can throw mike lee in there. michael he voted against the bill along with ron johnson from wisconsin. >> yet he is good. i don't think anything is going, no policies going to affect this election in georgia, right? basically democrats are going to win if they're able to stop enough ballots ahead of the election and with a deadly general election. which is to ballot harvest before this thing. they're able to do that they'll win the election. if they don't they won't when the election. i don't think it has it with policy. kennedy: bringing people back from the dead it's an amazing feat for georgia democrats. katherine, deutsche followed a correlation from the stimulus fights with an argument for or against more republican senators in the georgia runoff? >> one thing is very clear
8:10 pm
here. the very, very end of donald trump's term is republicans have pretty much completely abandoned what was once their banner is the party of fiscal discipline. this is the final nail in an already nail ridden coffin. and i would like to think there are still some voters in georgia who do care about fiscal discipline even the face of company would like to see taxpayer dollars used responsibly. and a targeted and efficient way. this fight isn't going to help republicans with those voters. i hope they exist i believe they still exist. we will see. kennedy: i think they will come back to life when there is a democrat president and a democratic house. and then it becomes really fun to be the cost-cutting party just so you can say no, no, no to everything. then you're going to have susan collins and mitch romney and lisa murkowski saying i don't know i kind of like spending money. they're going to swing over to the dark side. chris hawn. >> you're also going to have a
8:11 pm
country that's going to need the federal government to spend some money because the president has destroyed the economy of the great nation we live in right now. >> because he single-handedly had covid and sprinkled it all of the country? yeah. >> he failed to lead a more people got covid then needed to get it let's call it what is. he's got no plan for anything. kennedy: except the plans at joe biden's going to used to fight covid that were exact same plans. >> as for bout stepping in georgia, that is a ridiculous statement, tom. that never happened but there's no evidence about her is a state run by republicans who were doing the right thing trying to get people to vote. the republicans are in trouble in georgia because the president is making it very hard for them to win with what's going on. kennedy: what about some of the organizations especially when led by stacy abrams are trying to get people to move into the state short-term to
8:12 pm
vote? they're also encouraging people to use ballots for addresses that are not proper for ballots to go to? >> the deadline for voter registration in georgia long passed at this point. and that is way overblown and out of context for what is actually happening there. >> people use terms like overblown and out of context. [inaudible] >> what they're doing in georgia explains what they're doing with georgia. what they are doing in georgia is a registering and mobilizing and get people out to vote who normally would not vote. kennedy: like dead people? >> there is no evidence of dead people voting in georgia. i don't think you want to continue saying that with that kind of thing. >> none of that. zombies.
