"the evening edit" starts right now. ♪. elizabeth: okay. we're in breaking news mode. we're going to talk with congressman ken buck. let's bring him on right now. what is your take that the senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is saying that the democrats plan to give $2,000 in covid relief checks, no realistic path forward, your reaction to that congressman? good to have you on. >> it guyed to be on with you. senator mcconnell is absolutely right, if the democrats in the house had been willing to cut the pork and increase the 600-dollar payment by $1400 to $2000 they would have received republican support in the house, would have received all the democrat support. but they didn't. they weren't willing to cut the pork. they wouldn't willing to help their friends in state government education, all kinds of areas. the result they wanted to add

$1400 of payment on to the pork they already had. it is unacceptable and the senate should not pass it. elizabeth: are you letting the perfect be the enemy of the good because the pork is still in there and saying no to more money for americans? let's show the bill. go ahead. >> what i'm saying, yeah, i'm sorry what i'm saying is that the deficit is so high right now that we can't afford any pork and the pork should come out of bill. elizabeth: but you're giving it sudan, jordan, doing border security for lebanon, tunisia, oman. you're giving money to central america to fight corruption, money to ukraine, money to burma, why can't you cut those amounts to give money to americans? >> absolutely. i agree with you. we should being cutting. this priority should be americans. americans shut get the $2,000 but we should not be giving americans the $2000 and giving

these other countries this outrageous amount. the democrats have to bend on a few issues, the issues are all the money that is going overseas and all the money going to non-covid related pet projects here in the u.s. elizabeth: all right. but just seems like americans are going to get really hung out to dry here, but the money overseas will flow out. that is the complaint, right? >> absolutely americans should get $2,000. the money should not flow overseas, absolutely. elizabeth: okay, so, all right, here is the other thing. basically the president is saying that republicans have a death wish if they don't allow these $2000 checks to go out. what do you say to that? >> i think it is clear what should have happened a few months ago the president and the senate negotiators, house negotiators should have figured out how to give the americans the 2,000-dollar checks and should have figured out how to

streamline a bill without all the pork. had that happened, had people negotiated in good faith we would be there right now. what happened instead was, nancy pelosi wanted to bail out blue state pension funds to put that in the covid bill. that didn't work. then she wanted to make sure the president didn't get credit for a check that went to americans before the campaign, before the election and that didn't work. and so now at the last minute, she has stuffed the bill full of pork, given americans $600, when she should have given americans $2,000. elizabeth: okay. so, this has been going on for months and why is it time and time gone this happens at the 11th hour? there is a rush out the door and then americans get stuck with the bill and stuck with less money? >> yeah. it is the swamp, it is always the swamp. that is why. they gave us a 5,000 page bill, i say us, members of the house, a 5000 page bill with a few

hours to read it before they called the vote. they knew it was a must-pass bill to keep government open. they stuffed it with all kinds of goodies for their friend but refused to give us the time to go through the bill and offer amendments to take out the bad items in the bill. it is what they do every year and it stinks to high heaven. stuart: okay. let's, we've got to move on to this other story because this is a new development. two u.s. b-52 bombers, two air force fortresses in a show of force to iran flying over the persian gulf. you stood on house foreign affairs. this is the second time in a month. how worried are you that iran is going to retaliate on the upcoming anniversary of the killing of iranian terror mastermind of qassam soleimani? what will happen here? what do you think? >> i don't know what iran does. i know whatever they do will be met with strong action from the united states. iran is a rogue nation. they supported terrorism against our allies like israel.

they have supported terrorism across the world, frankly. the, this president stood up to them. this is the right thing to do. anything they do now on any anniversary or for whatever reason will be met with deadly force. i think that they have to understand that before they engage in any type of provocative behavior. elizabeth: general frank mckenzie, he is the commander of central command in that region, he is saying the u.s. is moving in and deploying combat ready capabilities into the area. there could be a rocket attack in iraq or drone strikes again on oil fields like iran did. iran is accused of doing that with saudi arabia. but that is what serious threat here, that we could see, coming days, rocket attacks by iran in the region. your final word on that? >> well we are much better prepared now than we were before for those type of rocket attacks and i believe that the combat

elizabeth: breaking news coming in. we have young americans for liberty analyst kristin tate. 100 pubs cochallenge the electoral college votes for next week. this comes on the heels of senator josh hawley saying that he would object during the congress' tally of those electoral college votes next week. 100 pub republicans challenging the ec votes for biden. what is your reaction to the story. >> this is stunning development. it is in their constitutional right to do so. we know the democrats would be doing the exact same thing if they were in this position. having said all of that, i think it would be smart for all of us to remain hopeful but still prepare as though biden is going to be our next president. that means, staying laser focused on the elections in

georgia and keeping the senate quite frankly. elizabeth: new jersey representative van drew will not vote to certify joe biden as president. is this a growing groundswell or is this where it is going to stay at, what do you think? >> i think it will be a growing groundswell. we've seen real anger from trump base and from people all across the country, even some independents, who feel like this are a lot of unanswered questions about this election. there are many unanswered questions. allegations of outright fraud, people for the last four years telling us trump was not our legitimate president, that he colluded with russia to win the election despite no evidence. now they say this is completely clean election. how dare you ask any questions.

let's see this move on. this will become more after movement of our elected officials because the people and voters want answers to questions. elizabeth: got it. so we've got that happening electoral college vote tally by congress next week. the georgia senate runoffs are coming up. your reaction to revelations, negative stuff coming out about democrat candidates. we've got news coming in that the democrat senate candidate reverend rafael warnock in his 2014 book compared the far left hate preacher reverend jeremiah wright to st. augustine. he is the preacher that said, goddamn america. >> those democratic candidates are real radicals. the elections in georgia are so much more than the candidates on the ballot. this is about saving the country from an unchecked far left-wing

agenda. if democrats get unified control, they can fundamentally, radically change this country. startingstarting with removing e filibuster, including d.c. and puerto rico with left-wing power for perhaps generations. amnesty, would create a nehr democrat voting bloc. massive blue state bailouts and people to bail out decades of irresponsible fiscal decisions by democrats running these states. joe biden has been keeping the radical wing of the party locked into the basement until the run-offs, georgia voters need to understand what they will unleashing if they let democrat have control. you don't need to kelly loeffler love or david perdue to understand what the alternative is. elizabeth: "the washington post" is even asking, what is democrat candidate jon ossoff hiding.

"the washington post" will not reveal his company's finances, business dealingses or where he getting money from china, al. al jazeera or producer of a company that produces documentary videos. it is not a good look at the 11th hour, he amended the financial disclosures to show payments from 32 groups. gop senator david perdue of georgia, kristin, china is targeting young impressionable liberals like ossoff and eric swalwell and hunter biden. is that a legit criticism there? >> absolutely. the democrats have a china problem and jon ossoff tried to hide his connection to a media company that has direct ties to the communist chinese government. he needs to answer questions about this and be clear about what his views on china really are. i mean i hope republicans in georgia realize that this isn't just, you know, about republicans or democrats. this is about putting someone in

the senate potentially who, you know, won't even acknowledge the threats that china really poses to this country? i will say this though. i'm sort of optimistic because even though the democratic candidates there in georgia have raised a record $200 million i suspect that they won't ultimately be successful. it sort of reminds me of beto o'rourke in texas who also raised record amounts of money, largely from out-of-state. he was really propped up by the media, and ended up losing to ted cruz. hopefully the same thing will happen in georgia. remember in november, democrats in the senate in down ballot races really lagged behind. i just, hope that same trends carries over into the statehood races in georgia. we remain hopeful on republican there is realize we're in the fight for the soul of this nation. elizabeth: kristin tate, thanks

will object to it. that vote tally and basically senator chuck schumer today saying, quote, this is disgusting these kinds of moves. he said that today. what is your reaction to all of this? >> well, it is easy to him to say it is disgusting after years playing along with the impeach and defending violent mobs all over the country including in his home state of new york. you know this is, this is, this is part of constitutional process. honestly, for the other side who is now shouting unity after shouting violence and impeachment and all these other fake news things from the last four years, they shouldn't be surprised that their cries fall on deaf ears. they have made their bed and now they have to sleep in it. elizabeth: yeah. >> let's face it, there are real

questions about fraud in this election. and until they are resolved with transparency -- yeah, go ahead. elizabeth: i to clarify, republican adam kinzinger is saying 100 republicans may object. it is not senator josh hawley saying that. it is adam kinzinger. finish your thought there, go ahead. >> i was just noting that you know part of the problem with people accepting the outcome of the election was the widespread lack of transparency of critical moments in time. i would go back to florida in 2000. florida realized they were made a national joke in 2000. they looked awful. their system was iraq. you know what florida did? they fixed it and we need this kind of attention now to update,

upgrade and make transparent our whole election process in every single state so that this kind of questioning and this kind of fraud can't happen again. elizabeth: yeah. people are saying it is not totally fixed in florida but we hear what you're saying. let's move on to this story, the man-made disasters. we'll show the worst of the worst are. the politicians who let rioters destroy their cities. democrat seattle mayor jenny durkin, ted wheeler of portland, oregon and bill de blasio. billions of dollars in private community property destroyed. dozens of people were killed. what happened, politicians let peaceful protests over the killing of black american, george floyd, breanna taylor, others of police custody they let the protests spiral out of control into riots. your reaction to these three individuals? >> first of all the real

substance worth i this of discussion in the breanna taylor situation, the george floyd, that was lost to the violence, not 100% but their memories were not respected by this violence. they were set aside. the mayors you named were examples of abandoning the responsibilities especially the number one responsibility that every level of government. that is public safety. all the other rights we have grow from our ability to be safe in our community and you know, so frequently we saw violent white liberals trashing minority neighborhoods because they're angry with president trump or whatever it was at the moment. how much sense does that make? and you had liberal, radically liberal mayors, the three you named are way out to the left, defending them. defending the violent people.

defending the mobsters. defending the rioters who are destroying cities, all while screaming for defunding of police, guess what? protect those most needful neighborhoods where crime is the worst, where families are the most dysfunctional. where the single parents know they need the protection. they're not being listened to, they're not being heard because of political virtue signaling that is sacrificing those americans. elizabeth: it got so bad rioters targeted the personal homes of seattle police chief best, chicago mayor loarie lightfoot, oakland mayor libby schaaf and personal home of muriel bowser. to state the obvious, peaceful protesters don't throw explosives into federal courthouses or at cops. there is nothing peaceful about dozens getting killed in riots or people shot and stabbed. nothing peaceful of rioters

pointing lasers at cops to blinder them or attacking them with power tools or commercial grade fireworks or trap cops in building to try to burn the buildings down. we have the media downplaying this. >> all year. elizabeth: cnn don lemon -- >> all year. elizabeth: cnn's don lemon said at one point the rioting is not extreme. listen to cnn's brian stelter downplaying violence in seattle. >> it looks like a big deal when you zoom way in to pine street surrounding area. let's zoom out, show all the seattle. you get sort of context for this. this is happening in about six city blocks. elizabeth: okay, within a few weeks of brian stelter saying that, after he said that, there were four shootings in that area and two people were shot dead. your reaction? >> don't forget the sexual assaults that were unable to be investigated that occurred there as well. i mean that is what -- we had a

model. seattle gave us a model. this is what life looks like in the cities without police. it looks like four murders, four attempted murders, two murders and some countless number of sexual assaults all in six blocks in a matter of a few weeks. that is what defunding the police looks like, america. now we know. whether brian stelter thinks it is a big deal or not, the mayor of seattle thinks it's a big deal or not it clearly is. most americans overwhelmingly believe that. even democrats in the house you remember after the elections where republicans did so well in the house, you had democrats screaming to the roofs, you fools who were talking about defunding police and socialism, you're killing us. you're killing us. those ideas destroy america and ideas have consequences and we saw it play out in cities all across the country this year. elizabeth: ken cuccinelli, thanks for joining us. really appreciate it. good to see you.

country. san francisco, l.a., other cities still defunding still and crime skyrocketing? >> this is problematic of political perspective. how seats were flipped in house of representatives related to the defund the police movement. the people live in the communities. the local citizens do not want defunding of police. when we see what happened in places like new york, seattle, portland and chicago, these communities came under siege as a result of people had acted with impunity because they believed the defund police movement was something that the politicians were attaching to. we need to move forward to a better place. it is unfortunate, i live in new york city. bill de blasio is at the helm. he is consistently denigrating the quality of life in new york. it is all based on preface of defund police. elizabeth: just yesterday we had a family coming in to look at the christmas tree in their car.

they, and teenagers on bicycles jumped on the car, smashed their windshield. that happened in downtown manhattan. so we have crime skyrocketing. we have minority communities saying you are literally killing us when you take an oath to defend and protect americans. much so this is, this is a serious story that is still having ramifications right now in our country. lieutenant, i would like to have you take a look again at this, at this, at a sound from a grandmother in brooklyn whose one year old grandson was shot dead sitting in his stroller in brooklyn. listen to the grandmother here. she has got a big statement to make. this happened earlier this year. watch this. >> for the cowards that did this you should be ashamed of yourself because everybody is talking about

black lives matter, what about baby lives? what about teenager lives? you took an innocent child to a mother and a father as well as the grandparents. go to hell. you can go to hell. and excuse me expression but you took something that was precious from me, precious from my son, precious, something precious from his mother and we will never see him, he cannot come back. elizabeth: you can feel the raw emotion lieutenant. we'll move to this, media downplayed the violence. watch the curious odd exchange. that is probably an understatement between cnn's don lemon and chris cuomo mocking the rising crime. watch this. >> democratic cities are in chaos right now. is this what you want from joe biden, they will take the country away, taking down the statues. >> crime is rising, defund

police. so bad, defunding police. it is like. elizabeth: all right, crime us up in dozens of cities nationwide. even "the new york times" is reporting that. your reaction? >> well the crime rate in new york is at meteoric rise. i will say, homicide rate this year has been 40% higher than it was last year. so in connection with what's happening, would that family experience in brooklyn as related to that innocent child that lost their life through gun violence it, really begs the question of the level of effectiveness of a public safety strategy that should be employed in a city like new york, on a national level. crime has been going up but we really haven't had an answer from a lot of democratically elected officials. we need to sit, we need to take a step back, make a qualitative assessment what is necessary and put forth the agenda of the law enforcement practitioners to

insure that we can reduce crime as a result. elizabeth: but that is seen as some, that is a right-wing kind of initiative, but no, americans on both sides of the aisle saying it is not a right-wing thing. tough keep us safe. we had democrat house speaker nancy pelosi downplaying rioters taking down statues saying people do what they do. the maryland governor larry hogan said there is no place for lawlessness about that. when you have statements like that, what do you do? democrats did not bring up violence and riots at their own convention? >> this is when we as voters need to vote out individuals that are putting forth an agenda harmful to the public safety of the citizens they represent. in new york, for example, jamaal bowman who as recently elected to congress moving forth that same agenda of defunding police. the same holds true with alexandria ocasio-cortez in the new york area. these are terrible, these are

♪. elizabeth: let's welcome back to the show former u.s. attorney brett tolman. >> great to see you. >> it is back in the headlines. an appeals court in new york upheld the conviction of huntter's former business partner patrick ho. he was convicted of paying bribes to the president of uganda and chad. he helped this guy who paid a million dollars to defend him. >> this happened under the foreign corrupt practices act. messages foreign and domestic, they will not tolerate corruption especially in the form of bribes. here are the allegations against mr. ho.

not only that money transfers hands from him to hunter biden for alleged legal services. it is concerning and certainly has to expand the scope of this investigation. elizabeth: yeah. this guy, patrick ho, accused of bribing for getting china oil drilling rights in africa. he was reportedly stuffing millions of dollars of cash in boxes and bringing them to the leaders of chat and you know, reportedly uganda. that's still out there for hunter biden. then you have this story, secretary of state mike pompeo saying, listen, basically reports are hunter biden, eric swalwell, are tip of the iceberg. china has been doing a full-court press to soften up americans to be more embracing of chinese communism. what do you say to that? >> i agree with the secretary. i will tell you that even back in 2003 we were made aware when i was chief council in the senate judiciary committee over crime and terrorism issues.

we were made aware then this was strategy by the chinese to soften the infrastructure, soften individuals, appetites and desires when it came to china and be able to get them to agree to some of the behavior they would lead them into. it is not just the business world. they were doing it with politicians and now we see that they're doing it with the sons of politicians because why? because it has an ability to get them what they want. elizabeth: brett, final question how deep does it go with u.s. politicians in china? >> liz, i would tell you that i wish i could say that this is something that we could root out easily. we cannot. these, these are issues that have been prevalent for decades. they are deep-seeded and now we have individuals that are going to fiercely try to protect themselves and to cover some of their behavior and actions. this is the tip of the iceberg

♪. elizabeth: let's welcome back to the show national border patrol council vice president art del cueto. art, great to have you on. we have reports coming in border patrol officials warned the biden team, don't cut into trump's border success stories and policies there. your reaction? >> it is good they're speaking up to say something, liz. i will tell you right now is not the time to take any steps back. i think there were a lot of

policies that were put in the place during the last administration, during the trump administration that helped secure our nation's borders. it would be disasterous right now to take steps back. but we're seeing it already down on the line. some of these individuals that are crossing illegally have been swarming a lot of the areas. so numbers are going up of entries. a lot of it has to do with them thinking a lot of those policies are going to go away. they believe they will have a free ticket to be in the united states. elizabeth: the first two months of this fiscal year, 2021, we've got 135,000 apprehended at the border for those two months. that is a seven-year high. we're hearing that the biden team is saying yes, we will keep for now the policies where you expel illegal border crossers immediately where they can't get due process in this country, waiting for a court, rather and they remain in mexico program where they have to stay if they're applying for asylum.

they will keep it for now but they could get it of it down the road, right? >> anything can happen down the road. it is very concerning because they need to make sure that they have a lot of the proper things in place and where they are going to process these individuals, make sure they have the right number of immigration judges, asylum fevers in those areas. you know, liz, you mentioned that the apprehension numbers are up but the real concern is how many people have not been caught. so the got away numbers have gone up astronomically. when you see apprehensions, got away numbers go up. the got aways are numbers we need to concentrate. that is really scary. you don't know how many people have come through at the beginning of this fiscal year. you do not know their intentions while in the united states. and that's a problem. elizabeth: yeah. here es the issue. it is drug cartels are loading up into backpacks lethal drugs like fentanyl, also hard

narcotics like cocaine and methaphetamine. they're having illegal border crossers carry it, smuggle it across the border. you have terrorists coming across across the border. they caught people not just from central america but the middle east, yemen, china coming in. customs and border protection chief mark morgan saying joe biden plans to end the u.s. agreements with central america, honduras, guatemala, el salvador and mexico to basically say if we catch your nationals here you ever to take them back. that used to be the policy for a long time. suddenly that was changed. now trump put it back in place. biden might get rid of it. is this here come the caravans again moment? >> not just the caravans, liz, we have to start talking like you mentioned the drug cartels. these drug cartels they're very much aware what is going on and many times when they see this open border stance what they do

is they work with the drug, with the human smuggling organizations, they flood certain areas with these individuals, knowing that it would move some of the agents from those locations. then what happens is, they just start bringing in the drug product through. there is currently a big war going on in the state of sonora with the drug cartels. a lot of people have not been reporting on it. but make no mistake. that is something that will affect the country, agents working the border. god snows how much more people will end up dying down there, bringing the product across. something that will affect the united states from the years to come. right now is not the time to take any steps back. i don't want to sound like i'm out here fear-mongering. i'm telling you guys the truth. that is what at the end of the day the truth needs to be told. not times to take steps when it comes back to the immigration process. elizabeth: polls show americans, including immigrants do legal immigration, not illegal immigration.

what is going on with the drug cartel war going up? tell us more about that. >> look at some news outlets you will see drug wars going on south of, in the state of sonora just south of arizona. they always position for power. i was even speaking to friends that i have that are trying to get here legally into the united states. even those people are affected. or individuals that are here in the united states trying to do it legally. what happens is, the courts can get flooded you don't even know where their status is going to stand. certainly the war on drugs, cartels fighting amongst each other trying to get the product across, that is something that people need to be very much aware of because it doesn't stay in mexico. and it doesn't stay on the border towns. it comes into the united states and we're talking about drugs like cocaine, heroin and fentanyl, something that is just horrible right now. we need to really seriously buckle down and take care of our nation's borders. elizabeth: okay. art del cueto, thanks for
