to the demonstrators are infiltrated the capital, have defiled the seat of american democracy or to those engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country. and to those who broke the law, you will pay. we have just been through in an attempt selection, and emotions are high. but now tempers must be cooled and calm restored. we must get on with the business of america. mike campaigned vigorously pursued every legal avenue to contest the election results. my only goal was to ensure the integrity of the vote. in doing i was fighting to defend american democracy. i continue to strongly believe that we must reform our election laws to verify the identity and eligibility of all voters. and to ensure faith in competence and all future

elections. now, congress has certified the results for a new administration will be inaugurated on january 20. my focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power. this moment calls for healing and reconciliation. 2020 has been a challenging time for our people. a menacing pandemic is upended the lives of our citizens at. -itis since many and their homes, damaged economy and claim countless lives. defeating this pandemic and rebuilding the greatest economy on earth will require all of us working together. it will break require a new emphasis on the >> values of patriotism, faith, charity, community and family. we must revitalize the sacred bonds of love and loyalty that bind us together as one national family. to the citizens of our country serving as your president has been the honor of my lifetime.

and to all of my wonderful supporters, i know you are disappointed. but he also once you to know that our incredible journey is only just beginning. thank you, god bless you, and god bless america. before that was markedly different from yesterday's tone as you heard the president said the violent rhyolite violators will paper he indeed is prepared to leave office in two weeks. join me now the phone with nebraska congressman donna bacon. welcome to the show congressman. >> ikeda debates report good to talk to you thanks are making time. i know it's been crazy for you in your colleagues. you are that prerecorded speech the president released he did release it on his twitter account which has been restored 12 hours are over. so what a jamaican event? >> i thought it was a good speech. he needed more of those words yesterday after the capital was broken into by the mob.
8:04 pm
i think the words he's needed for the last two months, frankl frankly. and generally since the election. but he welcomed his speech tonight. it is the right thing to commit to a peaceful transition of power is very important. we have had that from 1788 the oldest and greatest republic. and the president has to respect that. his words tonight were right on. i think his defining the people who broke into the capitol yesterday the way he did too, was very important. before yes because when he released the video and later is taken down, he seemed to say i love you, you guys are great, go home. i know the election was stolen from me. which didn't quite settle things down the way they needed to be. but often times with the president at almost say he takes a beets, takes a day, then has a very different tone. but what i want to know from you regardless of what the president said, what was it like for you yesterday?
8:05 pm
>> i thought it was terrible heard we live in the greatest democracy and republic into have our capital mobbed like that, a fellow police officer killed in the line of duty, just reported, and a total of five people killed. it is terrible. it is does not happen in the united states of america. i was angry about it frankly. as also begin with anger from the day before losing to elections to georgia that we never should have lost. i think the president's leadership needed to be better on this. whether it was in georgia. but also setting a better, presidential tone for those folks with thousands and thousands of people who lost it yesterday. leaders create calm in the sense of direction, not anger. his message was off. and i ultimately do not blame him, i blame the people who actually committed the crimes. i think too much and our

country, we pass on accountability to other people their responsibility. and ultimately the people who broke into that capital, vandalize it, killed that cop, they were ultimately responsibly have to hold them accountable. >> the death is what moves it from a melee to a tragedy. it's very hard to see some of those images yesterday and see how quickly things devolve into scenes like that. and you wonder what it is going to take to allow our society to evolve. and to have conversation where instead of lashing out we do a little more listening. which i think it's critical right now. i think the president made a big turn tonight he conceded the race saying a new administration will be inaugurated on generate 20th. to think that was a big move for them? >> it was a big move it needed to be separate i welcome the

fact the gives the courts to appeal the final results or the results. when the state certified the electoral vote count, which happened several weeks ago, this is the time he needed to concede and do that. it's overdue but i will take it now versus not doing a prayer we don't need another 12 days of friction, and uncertainty in our country. whether it's a democrat or the republicans, who do not divide, attack and demonize. our leader is a great sketch of the world they don't realize were demonizing each other and attacking. kennedy: it's as if we don't live in the same contractor really, really good point. congressman bacon, stay safe, thank you for your time and the best you in your family. alright so will the president to words helpful things down? let's meet tonight's party panel we got attorney and how to become a federal criminal author mike chase is here.

8:09 pm
single. kennedy: whether it's a physician know i'm talking right now. whether it is a physician or psychologist, i don't appreciate people making those sort of informal diagnoses. because you don't know what happens. all i am asking is your reaction to what he didn't do yesterday what he did today. you can do that without saying he is on klonopin. so inez, think the president made in importance. >> if i may, if i may, if i may finish. kennedy: go-ahead. >> look, the bottom line here is this was long overdue party hurt his legacy by not doing this earlier. he has hurt the party. he has hurt and hopes for the fragment the nation and the party. any should have done this before today. it was good to see him do that. i think it's too late. so far okay. inez and think the president made a really important distinction. this is something i have been

trying to say especially with the riots over the summer that have led into fall. and that's a difference between peaceful protesters but i absolutely acknowledge that right i don't care if it's black lives matter or the people marching for criminal justice reform throughout the country. and i stand with them as a libertarian print there are a lot of republicans who do as well. and i think the president was right to say that people who broke in, the people who breached the capital. the people who caused property damage and ultimately the death that resulted from that, those people have to be singled out. what did you think about the speech, inez? >> i think he did make that very important point about the fact there is a difference. you have it right to protest. you have a right to protest everything things other people in the country think you're silly. i don't think either one of these protests were silly. i am just saying, we do have that right. obviously you cross the line.
8:11 pm
we finally allowed to pay people in danger, you invade the seat of government. i think there's a symbolic importance to that. so i'm glad to hear the president say this. i'm glad to see him calm things down a little bit. i do think there's a huge difference though between excusing the actions which i think the congressman rightly said. these actions belong to these people allowed part i fully support them being punished the full extent of the law. but there's a difference between sort of blaming somebody else other than the people who actually took these actions and take a step back and looking at the forces in this country that might lead, not just the hand full of people like a guy and a wolfpack to invade congress. but why so many millions of people have doubts about the election? why they don't feel they can trust any of their institutions for the media. kennedy: 's of those people are finally taking a skeptical look at government, i say where the hell have you been? we've been at this party a

[laughter] he is everything that defines why these people bill hated. and i think that when you look at their reaction to this though, kennedy, this is going to be the moment that is used as an excuse to shut down, to shutter, to undermine, to deep platform everyone. not just people who are political actors who were media spokesmen and the like purchase regular human beings who happen to support the president and members of the republican party paid they're going to sue their business libeled. they're going to see themselves a deep platform, undermined, and make it impossible for them to run advertising and engage with people in a normal manner. we have already seen the way that facebook, instagram, twitter, snapchat and shop at five treated the president today. they're going to extend that far beyond him. it's going to be if you had a red hat and you were in the crowd, than there is going to be consequences for you and your business. and people are going to come after you.

that is the way things are going to work. i think we can all see you this coming. unfortunately this is the way the left wants to treat the public square. you are and not allowed in it unless you agree with them on the vast majority of issues. and they will only allow you in if you are going to be some domesticated animal who will just go along with everything that you say. and you will have the conservative blogger over the head like jenn rubin at the "washington post". it is ridiculous, it is absurd and it is un-american. i think it is something that is really terrible to our public debate but is going to happen unfortunately. >> that is also what happens when life in the real world becomes an extension of a socialist college classroom. and that is essentially what it is. you are right about that. you've been saying that all along. and that is the danger. but the problem is, we should be able to have conversations. and sometimes heated

conversations with that that turning into violence. but we have lost the ability for extremes on both sides to handle themselves. so what now becomes the movemen movement? what becomes a time in history when people felt their voices were finally heard and they were seeing things done differently? >> i think there's a lot of dangers for the republican coalition what could come next. the reality is that if president trump announced he wanted a third party tomorrow, it would probably be more popular than the republican party because he himself is. i think that is something would appeal to the people showed up in washington d.c. pre-people have not been that engaged in politics. one of the issues i think we really lack today here, kennedy, is we lacked the form of leadership that takes all of these impulses within the american environment, impulses
