investigative journalist sara carter. and today's inauguration a stark contrast to 2004 years ago when -- to four years ago when tens of thousands of trump supporters watched president trump sworn in. today almost no one was there to attend. despite receiving 80 million votes, president joe biden was talking before a national mall devoid of people and filled only with flags. mostly american flags. 25,000 the of our troops were also on hand today in the nation's capital to secure the inaugural ceremonies. all went off safely. for more on what is happening on the ground in d.c., we turn to fox news correspondent mike tobin. mike in. >> reporter: hi there, lou. between the d.c. mayor, muriel bowser, telling people not to come and this massive lockdown, the biden campaign promised they

could have the smallest crowd ever, and they may have delivered. the security force here in d.c. is unlike any for any inauguration in the past. miles and miles of fencing, some 12,000 feet of razor wire surround the capitol right now. jersey barriers are in the street, trucks block the roads, there are checkpoints wherever you go. one secret service agent said they're throwing the kitchen sink at this event. you have the secret service, border patrol, local police, even tsa agents are working those checkpoints. you have bomb disposal units on the street and bomb-sniffing dogs on the job. in the end, you have more people sanding sentry than you do civilians. there have been a couple of demonstrations through the day, an ever-present demonstration at blm plaza. a demonstration popped up here at the capitol, and there were some counter-demonstrators in the form of trump supporters, and there was some friction between those two groups

manifested mostly in the form of shouting. but you had a massive security presence here. some people say overkill, but in the end there was no major problem, no side show. lou? lou: excellent news. no side show. we've with seen plenty of side shows, mike. thanks so much. we appreciate -- >> reporter: certainly have. lou:from the nation's capital. and mike, by the way, on the front lines in nearly every instance. our team coverage continues with fox news correspondent steve harrigan on how much the washington area had prepared for this day. steve. >> reporter: lou, we've seen a tremendous security buildup here over the past several days, and now for the first time we're starting to see that up wind. you can see some cranes behind me now. they're actually pulling up some concrete barriers. behind those barriers, fencing, and we see national guard as well as secret service. tremendous days of preparation. by 6 a.m. tomorrow, they say,

these roadblocks, most of them, will be gone. they're going to work all night to do that. the preparation we saw was tremendous. we were looking for demonstrators most of the day, very hard to find anyone out there protesting. this was a city that was very hard to get into, a little bit easier to get out of. they actually shut down four main bridges between d.c. and virginia. we were at one where this were rumors of perhaps thousands of people intending to come and protest. there was police there, there was national guard there but no protesters in sight. getting around the city has been tough. almost everyone you see out is on foot. the stores not only shut, but boarded up. they were hoping to get a bump for the inauguration week, but really pretty much deserted. people out walking with children, walking their dogs and hoping that life will begin to get back to normal here at 6 a.m. tomorrow. lou, back to you. lou: steve, i think the whole country is looking forward to that possibility, and we hope

a new political party to further the trump agenda. as i say, these are rumors and, of course, they're being reported now by not only "lou dobbs tonight the," but other outlets as well. many are hoping that he will do something very much akin to that, because his influence could be positive, and it could be broad and powerful across the body politic. president trump saying he would like to name that party if he, indeed, does create it the patriot party. personally, i think that's got a great ring to it, don't you? according to the most recent gallup poll, president trump continues of to have strong support from the republican party base. leaving office with 82% approval among republicans. only hours into his new administration, president joe biden is quickly breaking from the trump administration's

policies with executive orders. among his executive actions, president biden is rejoining the paris climate accord, a decision praised by the globalist elites at the chamber of commerce, of course. restoring cooperation with the world health organization despite all of its failures and its collusion with communist china. and biden is also canceling the keystone pipeline permit, ending construction of the border wall, another declaration of his open borders agenda. and president biden also ending president trump's 1776 education commission that promoted a patriotic education based on america's greatness, it heroes, its history, its heritage. on wall street today, stocks closed at record highs. the dow up 258 points, the s&p rallied 53, the nasdaq blowing

we do this, together. bounce forward, with comcast business. lou: breaking tonight, newly-declassified and released documents show that christopher steele confessed to the fbi that he leaked the false russian collusion narrative in order to try to help hillary clinton's 2016 presidential campaign against donald trump. the document states, quote:

steele and burrows -- who was steele's partner -- described president trump as their main opponent and indicated they were fearful that trump's presidency might negatively affect the historic u.s. alliance with the u.k. and their special relationship. well, among the documents secured by "just the news" editor-in-chief john solomon now, christopher steele's admission that he chose his allegiance to hillary clinton over his work with the fbi. the fbi notes further revealing, quote: steele explained that as the election season went on they, as a company, were riding two horses; their client, hillary clinton, and the fbi. and after fbi director james comey's reopening of the hillary clinton investigation as the election approached, they had to pick one horse and choose the business/client relationship over the relationship with the

fbi. they followed what they, their client wanted, and they spoke to the pressment -- press. the fbi opened an investigation in 2014 into a foreign powers effort to influence hillary clinton. 2014. but that investigation was, well, it was stonewalled by fbi leadership. its seventh floor. an fbi employee wrote to then-director james comey in april of 2015, quote: the fisa application has remained in limbo for the last four months even though subsequent investigative activity by redacted provided additional probable cause for the fisa application. so instead of a fisa warrant, the fbi gave clinton a defensive briefing. entirely, entirely different, the way in which they handled false russia collusion claims against presidential candidate donald trump.

why? well, we know the answer. hillary clinton was their preferred candidate. john solomon, editor-in-chief of "just the news," best selling author, and he has breaking news on the fbi's efforts to investigate a foreign money plot against hillary clinton. john, good to see you. what can you tell us? >> well, listen, one of the most interesting things is looking at the contemporaneous documents. there were people inside the fbi, lead agents in the field who were developing this evidence that a foreign power wanted to give large sums of money to hillary clinton to help her campaign in an effort to curry favor. and they became enormously frustrated. four months passed, and nobody was getting back to them. one of the agents became so bold as to write directly to director james comey and ask, you know, what's going on here? my guys are upset, and we want to get this tool. in fact, we found more evidence since we filed the fisa, what are you doing.

and james comey claimed ignorance. i don't know what's going on, he said, but i'll try to get smart about it. what we learned from all the documents we've seen, they didn't do the fisa, and instead they went to hillary clinton and gave her a defensive briefing saying, hey, could be a foreign power, be careful where you take your money, the sort of thing they didn't do for donald trump. donald trump never got a defensive meeting on russia. he did get a fisa which we now know was based on false information. lou: i don't know that we should say he got a fisa, he was fisa'd. hillary clinton wasn't. >> that's right. lou: the foreign power, which foreign power in. >> we don't know. sadly, the documents leave out the name of the foreign power -- lou: i'm willing to speculate. i'm willing to speculate. >> yeah? lou: well, i'm trying to think of that country which seemed to have benefited most while she was secretary of state. i'm thinking of that country

that somehow managed to gain control of 20% of our uranium reserves. >> i know russia would be a natural one to think about. ukraine's another one you might think about, she had a lot of financial donors there. china's another one you think about. i'm told china and russia are not the country, but other countries will not, they won't confirm the country. and i'm still reporting on that. we'll try to get to the bottom of that over the next few days. lou: i would like to know why there was no investigation. by that, i mean a real fisa investigation. >> yeah. lou: by the fbi into uranium one. that still remains a huge mystery. the declassification of the documents, steele's overt statement that he was working for hillary clinton -- >> right. lou: the fbi knew that in to 2017. >> 2016, yeah.

lou: created a special counsel -- well, i think so too because they were part of the first attempts the frame general michael flynn. so they were on a mission already. your point is exact. >> yeah. lou: my question here is the fbi knew it, the justice department knew it, the intelligence chiefs knew it, and they combined and acted in concert to destroy, first, the candidacy of donald j. trump and then his presidency. and we have witnesses, we have known this. these documents further corroborate it. and there isn't a single soul among those corrupt officials who have been held accountablement and not anyone -- accountable. and not anyone in the left-wing national media as far as i know has put those facts before their readers, theiren listeners and their viewers. and users. and said this is the truth and what we carry to you in giant

buckets from 2016 and 2017 on was a lie. why not? >> yeah. there's a conspiracy of silence. and i think the news media's ashamed of its reporting, so they've just moved on and pretended it didn't happen. we're learning some new things in these documents even as we speak. the fbi wasn't aware that hillary clinton's inner circle was working on a russia collusion narrative as early as april of 2016. we've always been told july. we now learn in these documents cody scherr odd, one of the inner members of the clinton advisory team, was putting together a lot of the salacious stuff that later became part of the steele dossier. of in april he gives it to a state department official, a state department official gives it to steele. and then there's an effort to try to acquire or buy a tape from russia. christopher steele thought that was a trap, a setup. but the extent to which the

clinton team was trying to create a false narrative about donald trump, it showed very few bounds. lou: john solomon, thank you for all of your work throughout the past four years as we have all in this country witnessed a president subverted, his agenda blocked and opposed at every turn by the deep state, the democrat party and with absolute abandon for integrity, for honesty. it's a shame what we have permitted to happen to a great president, but it would be as tragic for even a midling president. i have been discussing, we have the confession of a former mi-6 agent who we've all known for some time -- in part thanks to your work and that of congressman deafen moon yesterday -- devin nuñes -- played a central role to the part of the hillary clinton candidacy in 2016. there has been no accounting in the national left-wing media for that, almost no discussion of it. we've got absolute are evidence and corroboration of it. will there ever be consequence? >> well, lou, that's a great question, and, you know, i made two agreements when i signed up for the task with devin when he was chairman of the house intel committee. i said whatever we find, it has to go out to the american people so they can read it for themselves. expect second part is accountability. you have to have accountability of those that govern before you can have accountability of those that they govern. he agreed to both of them. i think we're about 99% of

accountability -- excuse me, through reviewing the documents on the first part thanks to your good work and folks like john solomon, and accountability, unfortunately, that can only come from within, so we're still relying on the department of justice to execute that front. lou: your sense of how important these documents are that have been, president trump declassified and are now being released. how complete do you think that release will be, how profound an impact do you think it will have on, first of all, accountability? >> well, i think, i think it'll be -- hopefully, i haven't seen it, but i'm hopeful that it's very complete because it includes things that chairman nuñes and i discovered along with our team so many years ago, and it's a whole laundry list of things. if they're declassifying that, we're nearly the whole way there. i reviewed every single one of

those documents personally in my capacity on the committee. in terms of accountability, it just requires awareness through folks like yourself telling the american people -- they're available and they can read 'em. the only thing that can get accountability internally in government is for the american public to grow a sense of desire to have it action, and then it will become a reality. and we need to push even harder now because the times are even tougher, and people think it was so many years ago, it'll be forgotten. thank yous to you, lou, we'll keep pushing. lou: yeah, there's so many people who we're indebted to here for struggling against immense odds. and those who have been watching this carefully across the country -- and they are millions of americans, and i suspect something approaching 74 million americans who voted for president trump -- it's so clear the injustices, the outrage against the president.

and the leadership of the republican party which refused to stand for values, for tenets of courage and straightforwardness, all-american values, it's absent in the top leadership of the republican party. or this could never have happened to this president despite, i believe, despite all the arrayed forces of the u.s. government led by the deep state and the democrat party against him. do you disagree? >> lou, i think you're spot on. the values that you cited are the values we need now more than ever in our republican party. it is a party that the president, president trump built and recreated. it is the party that is founded on the values that you just cited, and we need to remind our current leadership and those that'll come in the years ahead that those are the values we need to have accountability for

♪ lou: well, security has been, of course, at an unprecedented height over the past several days in the capital. the inauguration successfully and safely carried out of our new president. fox news white house correspondent kevin corke has more on the story. kevin. >> reporter: lou, great to be with you. as you know, since the violence at the capitol back on the 6th of january, this city has been to varying drees under military occupation, the idea being they wanted to make sure everything was safe ahead of the inauguration and the celebration over at the capitol. but i can show you some pictures, lou, from earlier today. outside of a few dozen or so

demonstrators, it was primarily a quiet day here in the nation's capital. we did see some pro-biden supporters out there near the bureau downtown, but that's really all we saw. basically, lou, no major widespread protests which had been feared and we heard an awful lot about. i just want to show you over my shoulder, lou, you do see some troops that are still here right smack dab downtown d.c., but other than that you see those troops there, you still have some storefronts that are opening and conducting business as they always would. now, you do notice as we look across the street here, lou, there is some boarded-up storefronts right here. but i think it's important to point out, lou, that not all of that boarding up is new. that's not all fresh. a lot of that was that way following the summer of violence over at black lives matter plaza which is not terribly far from where we are. basically, we're talking about light traffic conditions. this is what washington looked

like in the covid shutdown anyway, so if you're expecting something big, dramatic and different, we simply didn't see it. i can tell you one last thing, my producer, sarah, just handed me this. the mayor of washington says the barricades and fencing will now begin to come down as of 6 p.m. tonight, it'll take them about 36 hours to complete that. and in interesting timing, indoor dining in the city resumes on friday. lou? lou: good to know, and i'm sure the good people of washington are delighted to hear that. they've gone through quite a bit over the course of 2020 and the early part of this new year. kevin corke, thanks so much. good to see you. appreciate it. now with president trump out of office, what will the republican party choose to do? who will lead the republican party? will they continue the trump agenda or try to go in a different direction altogether? all of those questions to be

answered, and to begin the early effort we're joined by leo terrell, civil rights attorney, staunch supporter of president trump. leo, great to see you this evening and welcome to the broadcast. let's talk about this president talking about a new party. he just reference ared it in -- referenced it in passing. and he mentioned patriot party which, to me -- as i said earlier -- has a great ring to it. what would be your reaction to president trump creating a patriot party? >> let me answer that -- thank you for allowing me to be on the program, lou. i'm a big, i am a trump supporter. i will follow donald trump. the republican party's at a crossroad, and i heard your program earlier. the senate leadership needs to step up and identify themselves either as trump republicans or what i call country club republicans. i am very disappointed and upset at the senate leadership. and, lou, as this senate

impeachment trial hangs over the president, we need to know where do republican senators stand the, because i honestly believe that the donald trump republican party, 75 million strong, changed the republican party. it's a party that brought me over. it enlarged the base. you know why, lou? because donald trump put americans first. these republicans who are in the senate need to step up and identify themselves as to where they stand. if not, i go with president trump. if he starts a new party, i and 75 million plus go with president president trump. lou: two or three facts, if i may, leo, and get your judgment on them. one with, kevin mccarthy said that the president bore respondent for the mob that assaulted the -- responsibility for the mob that assaulted the capitol. two, mitch mcconnell said that he bore responsibility and that he would make it a vote of conscience in an impeachment on

the president and his future. and, thirdly, ronna mcdaniel, the chair of the republican national committee, as rnc chair lost, lost the senate control, she also lost the presidency. and she has been reelected to head the rnc. in point of fact, all three bear tremendous responsibility for what we saw ensue from november 3rd on and the results. and for these two -- the senator, mitch mcconnell, and the leader of the house republicans, ken mccarthy -- for -- kevin mccarthy, for them to judging the evidence and to look at the facts and to slur this president, to me, neither man belongs in the office he holds. what are your thoughts? >> first of all, i concur with your analysis on mccarthy and mcconnell. i find it disingenuous for those

two leaders, so-called leaders, to comment on a decision regarding the impeachment proceedings without hearing the evidence. i'm a lawyer, and last time i checked i thought i heard donald trump on january 6th exercise his first amendment right. lou, i didn't hear anything from donald trump's speech, and i challenge the democrats and these two republicans to point out what did he do to warrant impeachment, which i call frivolous, and this trial. what kevin mccarthy and what mitch mcconnell are doing, they are carrying the water for the democrats. they are basically being used by democrats to bring down the most productive president in four years. people didn't like donald trump's personality. i'll tell you right now he accomplished more than any of his predecessors in four years. lou: yep. and 74 million americans obviously like his personality.

♪ lou: joining us tonight, sara carter, investigative reporter, fox business contributor. and, sara, welcome to the broadcast. good to see you. >> good to see you too the, lou. lou: it's been two or three days since we talked. i'm just struck the by vladimir putin aligning himself with those world leaders who are criticizing, chastening big tech for their censorship of donald trump and infringing upon free speech throughout this great constitutional republic of ours. big tech has just given the leader of one of the two most dangerous communist nations great propaganda power, allowing him to do -- to make a statement like that. your reaction. >> i absolutely agree with you, lou. what big tech has done, we've never seen really in the history of our world. they have amassed more power than anyone in the world and

control, basically, the narrative not only here in the united states, but overseas. remember, this is something that i discussed with you in the past. even when we have former senior officials that were working with the obama administration like john brennan, james clapper, james comey, when these officials used those platforms to basically say that the president of the united states was a clear and present danger, when they used those platforms like we recently just saw with john brennan, former head of the cia basically saying that the intelligence community in the united states is gearing up to investigate people that supported president trump and right-wing extremists as though our nation is filled with americans who are white supremacists marching down the street the and trump right-wing extremists in our military, it becomes very dangerous. you feed, basically, a lie, a

disinformation campaign to the enemy. we saw that with china. we're seeing china react -- lou: well, let's be, let's be clear --? >> [inaudible] lou: you're right. and we listened to the head of the national guard without even so much as a blush saying that they'd found 12 people who were suspect out of 25,000 troops. as you know, as i'm sure most of our audience realizes there are background checks for any service member as he or she enters the u.s. military. these are not people unknown to the military. but the idea that they could carry out a significant and meaningful background check in days like they purported to do the is absurd. it wasn't done. it was for media consumption, and there's quite enough of that. but to your point, what about left-wing extremists? what are we going to have to do? and i heard the good general say there's no room in our military

for extremism. of course there isn't. but if you're going to introduce politics, what are you going to do next, introduce religion? in the military neither is a matter for discussion in good military order. it's pure ignorance that has devolved on our men and women in uniform because of these crass, craven, left-wing politicians. and it's got to stop. and by the way, you're right, they're just as disgusting in their craven manipulation of the media and the issues. i don't mean to take anything away from them. >> right. lou: but the fact is donald trump add this country going in the right direction and the republican party in the right direction. it's off the rails at least right now. your thoughts. >> well, yeah. well, and as the wife of a wounded veteran and a friend of people who died on the battlefield and as a journalist who covered the war in afghanistan and iraq and saw the

sacrifices made by our men and women, i think it's absolutely unbelievable, i said this before as an american it's completely divisive, and it's wrong with. we've never seen this type of behavior coming out of our government. and basically instead of pointing at our enemies which are very -- that are taking advantage of this situation, we see people pointing at americans. and that really needs to stop. it really has to stop because it's absolutely wrong. and it's only going to divide our nation further. i think i'm very disappointed in people like mcchrystal and his comments and austin lloyd, general austin lloyd and the comments that they made. hopefully, lou, we find a way out of this before it gets worse. lou: yeah. it starts with the military having the sense not to pay attention to left-wing radical -- >> right. lou: -- like congressman steve cohen and to have generals in command who haven't got the guts to stand up for their troops. sara carter, thanks so much.
