their position? or is that weakening by the day? suspect they are certainly weakening their public support. i know so many people liberal people who are parents with kids who are fed up with the teachers union because they have been this powerful force fighting the reopening of schools everywhere. all across the country particularly in large countries. you know many schools are (they are private schools, religious schools. they have been open for a long time and guess what, they do not have a lot of coronavirus for they do not have super spreader events. they have managed it. in d.c. the catholic schools, 17000 students seven are coronavirus occasions no hospitalizations. it can be done the cdc agrees it can be done. the teachers unions everywhere say apps so inoperative i am skeptical honestly that if the teachers usually get their way i'm skeptical schools will ever reopen or they will reopen next year. kennedy: certainly not this year. it sounds a great and reasonable, right carol, when

the president says 100 days, 100 days were going to open schools. but what does 100 days mean? select right. like most journalists, i've done the math on this that lands us in may for 100 days for that's a big maybe. started dialing back from that plan. so opening the schools in may for what, two or three more weeks does not make a lot of sense. i think the battle right now is for september. i don't have any faith that schools are opening in september. i think any schools that are closed right now aren't danger been close long term. kennedy: it is a real bummer. that is a year end a half that kids are out of school. and you think about, i keep thinking about this. i keep thinking of kids were juniors and seniors. and kids who have been in sports and sports are not going in public schools. with are going to do for college and college scholarships. it's not really a conservative

bastion there in san francisco but even that city is suing it school district for these unreasonable demands. so why can't teachers go back to school if they are socially distancing? if kids and teachers are wearing masks and there is a low transmission rate, rochelle? >> i think the biggest concern kennedy guess there's a low transmission rate. but the teachers are going to have to be vaccinated. right now the vaccines are not authorized for kids that are under the age of 18. i also want to look at these cities like new york, chicago where i am at right now, a lot of these kids take public transportation to school. their parents are not necessary dropping them off. they're getting on trains, the getting on buses there's a really high risk. at some point you have to do something because they can't just stay at home and go to school. and then this also exposes the digital divide in many communities were some parents don't even have the technology

needed to make sure their kids are getting the proper education. and unfortunately they are having to give up. >> yes and even homes with young children, parents still have to go back to work. that is the worst news of all i know a lot of city's elementary schools are opening up first but all you have to do, rochelle comes ugly private schools, the catholic schools, the charter schools and of already open and see those kids also take public transportation places like washington d.c., chicago, san francisco, new york. you still have a low transmission rate that is point to, .1%. that is much safer than going to the grocery store. i am assuming these teachers they all go out and shop for food. i don't think they are starving to death. i don't think they're having everything delivered on fresh direct. so then reasonably you can assume if you are engaging in mealtime with your family. if you're going to the grocery

store and other places like that then you're probably safe to go back to school. that means there is something else there. and when teachers talk about safety protocols, the last thing they talk about is learning. even behind that is student mental health and well-being. and shame on them for that. and for railroading this discussion but because i will tell you, as a parent of kids in public school we are damn sick and tired of these teachers unions holding everybody hostage. now the panels going that hang on there's much more with them. in the meantime the white house has announced the federal government will ship 1 million doses of covid-19 to pharmacies nationwide. that means instead of waiting in line at a local library or at a giant bait baseball stadium maybe will take your shot at walgreens or cvs we get the flu shot. once you get the vaccine what can you do with it? can you take your mask often in social distancing? well dr. fauci to the grinch
