[laughter] kennedy: looking at this going how do you fish during a global pandemic? everything was shut down before you got there. >> it was horrible. i'm glad we have a job, never once but it was hard to even get the job and get started because of the pandemic and new regulations with covid and all that, we didn't even have a summer service so basically they survey the bottom, to see how many crab are out there, that was not done because of covid and because of that, there was no numbers to go by and because of that, we didn't know if there would be a season so thank goodness they took our past history a few years back and look like the crab are doing well and we were able to go fish so that was step number one. step number two, set a precedent

because because we didn't know where the craftwork and we were in the dark, we want to make sure we are setting president for next year so we can do a next year end to do that, we had to bring in big jaws, who wanted to make sure they worked as a team so we can catch the crab efficiently and the numbers are there and then said that for the upcoming years, hopefully. kennedy: you all had to work together and i know you all know each other, i saw you guys in action mapping things out because when i was there for your launch, you couldn't tell if you were going to have to delay the season a few days because there was a huge storm you are coordinating and that way but when it comes to fishing, it's pretty solitary so how did you work together to work around the pandemic? >> i think at the end of the

day, the guys understood if we don't set presidents together and if the numbers come in and we set that bar, everybody wants a next year, we want sustainable fisheries, that's what we are all about and i think the guys just had to suck up their pride and the year all right, let's communicate for a change and we are competitive and that's just how it is but i think they had to put their pride aside and work together on this and it paid off, a related. kennedy: how did you do it in terms of keeping the boat safe? there were plenty of fishermen and women who tested positive for covid and there was an entire boat essentially wiped out, how did you keep your boat clean and safe? did you have stopped testing, testing center was there protocols? you're all on top of each other, nowhere to go once you have started your season so how did you do that?

>> we live in seattle, majority of the guys are in seattle so we were careful quarantine, we tested two or three times in december before going up and basically in the harbor, straight into quarantine. a lot of the guys on their post, we tested in dutch harbor and they are doing a great job, the state of alaska is doing a great job but dutch harbor especially because it's a unique fishing place, there's so much product through the court and everybody essential so it was quarantine, testing and you wouldn't leave the boat, you're just stuck on the book, many were stuck on their boats for weeks on end and it hit them hard, some of the processing plants have hundreds of employees affected and literally they have to shut the doors and you can imagine millions of dollars going through the doors with fish and caught and crab and all that

product and it needs to be shipped so everybody's affected and we got through it. you go to a different facility, wait in line while another facility was quarantined and my hats off to the state and the harbor, the fishing fleet because at the end of the day, everybody works together and they got them but was a struggle and affected everything. talk guys down to the bottom. kennedy: just when you thought the show couldn't be any more challenging and you have so much against you, it's a pandemic and but you still have to fight exhaustion and fish blind, i can't wait to watch the season. >> on what you start watching it on discovery plus so i didn't even know it was on their and my daughter sent me it this morning so i'm going to catch up was going on. kennedy: tell her hi, too. we want to go back, i miss it.

if you're at the end of the day, like this was 7:00 p.m., he got a few hours, past dark, can't find anybody, i tried to find people closest to me around where i was working so people working, the police officers on the scene helping us, i tried to find the people who would have been eligible but they had already taken it or would wait a little longer. at that time, i am stuck so having touched base with a colleague i started calling people on my phone to see if they would be interested, these are people eligible. kennedy: so you had a woman in her 90s, a man's mother-in-law in her mid- 80s with severe dementia, a man in his 60s with health issues and the man's

caregivers all of the people inoculated, met the criteria were directly working with people including a woman in her 40s whose child is on a ventilator so they all seemed like perfectly wonderful candidate to get the vaccine but what happens after you administered the doses? >> i administered to them to people who are very much eligible. from anyone's criteria, you don't have to be a doctor to realize their hard high-risk, they are going to suffer the consequences so i administered the vaccines and did the paperwork, let the team know what happened and the next thing eight days later, i was pulled into the office and said well, he took a bunch of vaccines and told so them to your family and friends, we've got to let you go, simple as that.

kennedy: no recourse, they don't accept your explanation, you get them the list of people you gave the vaccine to and they said there was lack of equity and wanted you, instead of administering them to the people i listed, they wanted you to throw them away, what is the rationale? >> i don't know what the rationale is because of the make sense to me or i wouldn't have done what i did. they stated they were not yours to get away, that was the part that did not make sense so given the alternative, to throw them away for it not being yours to get away, i didn't have a choice, this was all there was, they would rather i throw them away, but does not make sense for anyone's perspective. kennedy: what is the hippocratic oath you take? >> as a physician, my first and foremost priority is the well-being of my patients,

that's it, everything else is secondary. i am an er doctor, i am board certified and when i worked in the er, when there is a problem with policy or an issue, patient care, patient welfare always come all policy problems. there was the policy for left over vaccine disposal, right? that was part of the problem, there was no such thing so we had to make the decision, i had to and that was the decision i made considering i am a doctor and that's what i believe. kennedy: if they knew the storage issue, once the genie was out of the bottle, you can't record the file so what happened to your job? are you still looking for a job have you found employment? i know this was december. >> as an er doctor, i can work and have been able to work somewhat in the emergency
