large knife, described almost as a machete and he was shot and later on discovered he had died, but also, just moments ago, we learned that one of the two u.s. capitol police officers also has succumbed to his injuries so it's another terrible day in washington d.c. and our nations capitol, as the capitol remains parts of it in lockdown, as i hand it over to my colleague, liz claman liz, over to you. liz: you know charles especially on this friday, especially on any day, to bring this news to people, it's just horrible horrible news. what we're going to do is we're going to keep up some of the live pictures. this is the north barricade vehicle access point on capitol hill. a horrifying situation unfolding an hour and a half ago when the driver of a car, that black car right there, with the trunk up, smashed directly into a security barrier, specifically on the senate side of the hill.
3:01 pm
the driver hit two capitol police officers and we have just learned as charles mentioned in the last 10 minutes, one of the officers has died due to his injuries. the suspect, apparently then exited the car, brandishing a large knife what has also been described as a machete. you can see this area is on lockdown right now. he apparently rushed toward officers who then shot him. that suspect was killed. no word yet on motive but you can see , we've got heavy duty police and national guard presence at the moment. we are getting criminal analysts , reporters, and former police officers in front of our cameras and on the phones in just a moment. we are going to get the very latest for you, and get you up-to-date on all that is happening right here on our screens, on this good friday. just an absolute devastating situation. we do hear though, from police in d.c., that the situation does not appear to be an ongoing
3:02 pm
threat, and we understand that perhaps this individual who rammed the area with his car was lone wolf but we're not going to speculate at all on any motives and we will of course get these experts in front of the cameras and on the phones in just a few minutes. we are also seeing on an economic standpoint the aftermath of a highly unusual confluence events at this hour. yes, the markets are closed for good friday but today, in the calendar, stock futures did trade live just as the march jobs report came out, and you can see specifically from this chart that not only did the futures double the second blowout number was released, but just as they stopped trade at 9: 15 a.m. eastern, the dow futures, which is the yellow line there, hit an all-time high , coming up even as the recovery clearly sets in, could the damage reflect it in one sector be sort of a black swan in the making for the economy and the markets?
3:03 pm
the center for disease control, we need to tell you this. a lot of news breaking in the last couple of hours. cdc maybe the one to come to the rescue. the cdc has just in the last few hours unveiled brand new guidelines on who can now safely travel and yes, eat in restaurants we're live in los angeles and florida with the breaking details on that. again, markets may be closed but bitcoin is up and running billionaire mark cuban pulling back the curtain on his specific crypto investments and what our power panel thinks of his picks and the one digital token is the closest to real money as companies begin to accept virtual currencies. let us get back to this breaking news right now on capitol hill. as we mentioned, a suspect in the 1:00 p.m. eastern hour rammed his car specifically at this security area, the north barricade vehicle access point, along independence avenue. he rammed two u.s. capitol hill
3:04 pm
police. one has died. the suspect was then shot as he exited his vehicle, holding a weapon that appeared to be a knife or a machete and he ran toward capitol hill police and as we said, they fired shots, he's now dead. former nypd detective and media analyst today john cardillo is joining us now via phone, from what you know and again we don't want to start guessing on any of the motives, et cetera, but what can you tell us, john, from all that we see right now, and capitol hill on lockdown? >> well, clearly, liz, they are treating this as an incredibly sensitive incident which they should. this is our capitol district, but to touch on a few things you said, one is yeah, we don't want to speculate because it's a critical incident but two, when you look at the facts and what's happening operationally around the district, it does appear that the information and intelligence being shared by law enforcement indicates this is a
3:05 pm
one-off attack. for example, even after this occurred, while the capitol area was on high alert, the large police presence, national guard presence, the white house wasn't on a full lockdown and the reason for that be that shared with secret service that said the threat is neutralized and that there was no intelligence indicating other threats so now capitol police will join with the fbi and other federal law enforcement agencies and start looking into the background of the suspect, trying to figure out if there was a motive and if there was one, what it was. liz: okay, so, this obviously comes just a few months after the january 6 situation where, you know, we saw the riot on capitol hill. capitol hill police on balance bravely attempted to defend the capitol. you know, when you see the capitol hill police have been in the crossfire, so to speak, over the past several months, it's just a horrifying situation, but can you give us a sense and maybe we can roll some
3:06 pm
video of sort of what was the most recent video that we can get on this and by the way folks i do just want to let our viewers know. we have some very graphic video that we've chosen at least at the moment not to run, but it is of, at least, one man bloodied on a gurney being led away into, of course an ambulance and we do know that both the suspect and one capitol police officer is dead, but if you can give us a sense of the type of situation that when this happens, immediately kicks into gear from a law enforcement standpoint. >> well, you know, i'm glad you raised this because i would like the viewers to takeaway there really is no mundane or safe moment of policing. these were capitol police officers standing a guard post outside the capitol behind the national guard troops, and when you look at sites like odmp , the officer down memorial page, one thing you'll notice is we hear in the media
3:07 pm
and police officers that are shot and oftentimes stabbed but i think most people be shocked to know how many officers are killed in the line of duty as a result of vehicle accidents, being intentionally hit with vehicles, and so this is where a police officer anxiety, their adrenaline goes from zero to 1,000 miles an hour split second , this vehicle comes charging at you, it hits your co -workers, your partner, one in this case tragically fatally. what you're going to do at that point is you're drawing your weapon. it really is muscle memory. you're going to revert to what you were trained to do which is now in a split second, this is a threat. this is a threat to us. it's a threat to the capitol, to people inside. let's draw our weapons and neutralize this threat, and it appears the capitol police did everything right. you know, i really hate the monday morning quarterback ing, could this police officer have done something better for his partner typically, no, bad things happen
3:08 pm
and fatal things do happen and these low symmetrical, these low tech a symmetrical attacks, it's much easier to interject 9/11 than it is one guy in a car who does something spontaneously acutely to get in front of that and in this case, even though there was a tragedy of a dead capitol police officer and an american hero, i believe his partners acted and they really stepped up and did exactly what they were supposed to do preventing other loss of life. liz: john, i'm so glad you're bringing all of this up. we need on a daily basis to remember that our police officer s leave every single morning not knowing if they will come back to their families and here, we have one police officer , capitol hill brave hero , who will not be coming home. we do have one other at the hospital. we don't know his condition just yet. we do know the suspect was
3:09 pm
killed. you know, these security check points as we understand it, john, are typically used by senators and staff on weekdays, senate is not obviously in session, nor is the house, but lawmakers away for recess. they've had fencing, obviously, and we do have some movement here on the screen, just so that our viewers are aware of police officers moving in, but again, it's important to note that it appears that the situation is stable and calm. i would say though that as you look at what else could be done in the future to prevent ram mings like this , a couple years ago i was in washington d.c. with fox news rich edson, we were doing live hits for something that was happening as far as policy was concerned, and a mentally disturbed woman had done almost the exact same thing and, you know, these things are happening and we do certainly want to know what your thought is on what more can be done.
3:10 pm
>> you know, sadly, not much. these barriers, like you mentioned, with the woman from 2018, the barriers that stopped this vehicle today, i believe, were installed around the same time, as we can see , they're highly effective at what they were supposed to do which is prevent a vehicle from making it any further towards the capitol, towards the critical zone. again, these are the ones, liz, that keep law enforcement, the intelligence community, the military up at night, so like i said and not to be redundant, the low caltech one- off attack doesn't require planning, it doesn't require communication, chatter, things that can intercept. this might have gotten the idea to do this 20 minutes prior, and unless, you know, it's not that old tom cruz movie minority report, you really can't get in front of that and i believe in this case, the security protocols and the physical barriers, the physical rings of security in place of the capitol worked very well, but again, the
3:11 pm
highlight of this incident is the tragic death of a capitol police officer, another one in the hospital and we don't know their condition, however when you take that out of the equation, the security rings worked exactly as they were supposed to. this vehicle got nowhere near the building. liz: thank goodness. john, always, always so valuable to hear your perspective. thank you very much. we do have breaking news at the moment. we want to let our viewers know the lockdown on capitol hill has now been lifted, so it appears that the situation is now under control, but that does not mean there are a huge number of developments and questions that people have. the motive of the suspect, we do know know yet and there's an ongoing investigation that kicked into high gear almost immediately after the situation began to unfold, about an hour and a half ago. we of course had one driver ram a north area barricade of capitol hill, and two police
3:12 pm
officers were hit, and as we find more out about the situation, we do as we mentioned mourn one police officer who was killed. the suspect is also dead. we've got hillary vaughn right now. hillary, that lockdown on capitol hill has been lifted, but what is the latest and can you describe what you're seeing in the situation? reporter: liz that's right so the lockdown we just heard an alert overhead that it has been lifted and we did just wrap up a presser with the capitol police that gave us an update, a tragic update on on the condition of at least one of the capitol police officers that was taken to the hospital. we are learning that that officer has died from the wounds that he sustained. we also are getting some more information about how the two capitol police officers got injured. the suspect that was driving in the nissan altima that crashed ultimately into the barrier that is over my left shoulder right
3:13 pm
here, he rammed his vehicle into those two officers as well and then he had a knife in his hand, and started lunging at those officers and we were able to get video of that suspect being carted away on a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance. he did have blood on him. he was receiving medical care on his way, before being loaded into the ambulance but we also got the update that that suspect has also passed away, succumbed to his wounds and has died as well. we are waiting for more information about the condition of the second capitol police officer that was taken to a different hospital. we have not received an update on what his status is as well. we do know from capitol police that there is no ongoing threat at this time. they also said they do not believe that there are any ties to terrorism, but they face a lot of questions that ultimately
3:14 pm
, liz, didn't get answered about what was inside of his vehicle, if there were other weapons inside the vehicle. they are still processing it. i know from our vantage point on the balcony as we were shooting as the situation was unfolding, there was a lot of stuff in his trunk. there was a suitcase, a blanket, i saw some shoes but it was completely packed, so they are processing this vehicle, and assessing the scene and looking really for any evidence or any cause of what the motive could have been. the police say they do not have a motive for this at this time, but additionally, there's a lot of unanswered questions. we asked if the suspect shouted anything or said anything before he lunged and tried to attack these officers with the knife. we do not have answers on that as well, and we also are waiting for information. if the suspect seemed to be in a mental state he had been if he seemed to be intoxicated or any type of substance that the officers also did not
3:15 pm
provide that information as well , so there are still a lot of unanswered questions, we're hoping to get those later this afternoon, but really, the tragic and unfortunate headline here is that there is one capitol police officer who is no longer with us, who passed away because of this attack that happened here on capitol hill this afternoon. liz? liz: hillary, please keep us posted. we may come back to you within this hour. we do want to let our viewers know that according to fox news, president biden is aware of the situation. he has been notified. we do know that the lockdown has been lifted but we have one capitol hill police officer down he has been killed, and the suspect, who rammed his vehicle and ran at police with a large knife and machete has also been killed. we are coming right back with much more straight ahead. stay tuned. it's game time, let's meet the defending champs.

liz: we are going to keep the camera that is fixed on capitol hill up for this breaking news and what we'll do is keep it on the screen. some of the cameras we call them rems, for remote shot, we'll be switching out but we do want to keep what we call a big little on the screen so that if
3:20 pm
anything develops on the screen from capitol hill in the wake of what has been just a horrific past two hours where a driver rammed what you see a barricade there and rammed two capitol hill police officers, one has been killed, the others at the hospital, the suspect was shot as he brandished a knife and ran toward officers. the suspect is dead, but you can see there's a heavy police presence. the lockdown has been lifted on capitol hill but that's why we want to just keep you updated because this is a developing story, and we want to make sure that you are on every development here. we want to also talk about what's been happening this morning. let's show you the futures chart again, because it may very well be the precursor of how the stock market might open monday morning. the dow futures, that is the yellow line, spiked to an all-time high this morning before trading ceased for the holiday at 9:15 a.m. eastern. now even though the markets are shuttered for good friday, because the monthly jobs report
3:21 pm
for march is released the first friday of every month it was this calendar quirk, so futures were allowed to trade at least until 9:15 a.m. to react and react, they did. labor department reported the u.s. added way more jobs than expected, 916,000 versus estimates of 647,000. so the 10 year yield we go back to that chart that's the blue line here, the 10 year yield tracked the dow futures almost step-for-step. the 10 year yield was plummeting 1.67% before the lowout report but then jumped to 1.72% after, that's sort of a risk-on trade if you will. the manufacturing sector gained 53,000 jobs, if we're talking about teasing out who did well, manufacturing, great number. 53,000 and 20,000 more than expected. a huge driver in march's job gains was the leisure and hospitality industry. 280,000 jobs added there.
3:22 pm
labor secretary marty walsh telling fox business this morning live that the headline number means so much to small and big business. >> when we talk about 916,000 people back in the workforce, that means there are more people buying coffee in coffee shops and more people buying lunch in sandwich shops and more people able to go into our retail stores and shop. it's good to generate this type of excitement into our economy. liz: but even with the psych in leisure and hospitality, which does include restaurants, the national restaurant association reported some very stunning numbers here, more than 110,000 eating and drinking establishments closed last year during the pandemic. i mean that's about 17% of the nation's total. does that have the potential to form maybe an economic stumbling block once the pandemic dust settles? to our expert panel, we have
3:23 pm
brian vendig, wealth advisor president, and jed coco, indeed chief economist. jed, i'll begin with you, what do you think with thousands of restaurants closing and of course many more struggling hanging by a thread what lasting impact should we be prepared to see here? >> the leisure and hospitality industry which includes restaurants has been by far the hardest hit in this pandemic when we look to the future of what happened to the restaurant industry and leisure and hospitality more broadly, it matters a lot what happens not only to consumer spending but also to business spending. restaurants do a lot of business from office workers who are going out to lunch, from business people who are traveling, from people who are going to conferences and so even if consumer spending fully recovers, people go visit their family and go on vacation, restaurants may still suffer if more people are working from home and eating closer to home or cooking at home and if
3:24 pm
there's less business travel and less conference travel, especially for restaurants that depend on those business customers for a lot of their revenue. liz: yeah, you know, the numbers on this headline are absolutely fantastic but brian come monday, how do you invest around this? if this were an open market day we moo it have seen an unbelievable pop or some fear that maybe the federal reserve has to look at this great number and say we cannot keep rates at emergency 0 to a quarter percent low levels. >> liz that's a great point but we need one data point from this jobs report in mind is that one good report on a good friday does not make a trend, and so when we think about monday, i think it's still about a broadening economic recovery. you can definitely look still to the basic material sector, because we do have discussions in preliminary stages around the infrastructure bill and other expansions that are
3:25 pm
happening with gdp around the world, as seen with the jobs report and the construction as well as manufacturing sector. we still like industrials but specific to entertainment, travel and leisure and restaurants i think you can add or start to consider the services sector being about 70% of the u.s. economy. consumer discretionary, you know , is something you want to put on your radar so for example , if you want to have a broadening exposure you can look at an etf pej which plays into leisure and entertainment sector , or you can focus on the supply chain like a cisco or a well built that supports the restaurants moving forward, and lastly, of course restaurants group in general, like a darden, or a mcdonald's or a yum brand and these are some of the things investors can think about but also it's more about some of these other sector s that we also saw how pretty significant job gains from last month. liz: yeah we're looking at some of these charts and while some of them maybe close to one year
3:26 pm
highs they're not one year highs and specifically the public services enterprise group, peg still up 31% over the past year, but we'll be watching every single second certainly on monday but you can see starbucks, mcdonald's, all of these restaurant chains that were able to be a little more fleet of foot than the smaller guys majority it do really well once the big reopenings happen. brian and jed, thank you for joining us and again, we are keeping our very close eye on the situation on capitol hill. we will be right back with the latest developments.

constitution avenue was closed off as recently as two weeks ago because they erected a broader security perimeter around the capitol after 1/6 that went out several blocks and this is where they had another layer of fencing, constantina wire on top that fence and even this fence as well and there was a lot of debate about whether or not they should reopen constitution and independence avenues. the fact if that gate, excuse me , if that exterior fencing, the second layer, had been up, this incident probably would not have happened or at least not happened right here because you just take regular civilian traffic coming up or down capitol hill, you can turn right in there and ram into that security barricade. liz: and we're going to keep our eye on this , chad interrupt us if you get anymore information. chad pergram, live from capitol hill. the "claman countdown" is coming right back, stay with us.

bitcoin, 30% in atherium, and 10 % in "the rest." well cuban is forging ahead in crypto, but let's bring in guy h ersch, managing director of u.s. crypto exchange etoro, and also rocket fuel blockchain ceo peter jensen. guy, give it to me straight, you know, you've got coin-base jumping in saying we're ready to go public, you guys have just been named for new traders and investors in crypto, the top exchange. talk about the business you're seeing in the activity really heating up here? >> i think everything is pointing to mass adoption of crypto. we see the rise of the retail investor happening both in the stock market as well in crypto markets. we see more people getting accustomed to trading these type of assets and we see crypto going mainstream. i would just point out chipotle just on national burrito day

gave out $100,000 worth of bitcoin and you had the snl sk it, you just see a massive movement toward recognizing that this is happening and it's becoming part of popular culture and that is a good thing. liz: well, peter, it does feel sort of like maybe one seminole moment along what be a very long road to adoption because there are a lot of people who just don't understand it still, but let's talk about rocket fuel blockchain. you're looking to reinvent or at least invent the checkout process. we asked so many companies now saying that they will accept certain forms of crypto. what is it that you're doing right now that you feel positions you as a leader in this space? >> well, every time we have a new technology and we want it to be adopted fast, it needs to be easy to use for the consumer, and so anyone whose tried to make a payment with crypto using qr codes and their mobile phone, yes, the first movers
3:53 pm
will use it but it needs to be as easy as purchasing on amazon. it needs to be, i click on on the sweater i want and i click on the payment i want, whether that be a credit card or my cryptocurrency or a bank account. it should just look the same way , and that's our competitive advantage. we have basically made it super easy for the consumer to make purchases using their cryptocurrencies. liz: guy, quickly, i'm looking at bitcoin, it is trading, we do have it around 58,000 and change , it's coming up against that ceiling of 60,000. what do you think? what happens soon and does that mean another seminole point? >> we're very bullish about bitcoin for this year. i think that with the adoption of institutions coming into bitcoin and corporate treasury allocating into bitcoin, you've seen tesla allocating 1.5 billion, you've seen square, cfo being public about basically making the case for
3:54 pm
any cfo to have some of its cash reserved into bitcoin, and so we're very bullish and coupled with what's happening on the retail space, we feel that we're going to see this price going up and the adoption going even wider. liz: peter, guy, due to breaking news we're so sorry that this had to be a shortened segment but we really appreciate it, we'll have you back and we will be coming right back after this. dignity. this thing you can neither see nor measure... ...but that demands the return of small moments illness attempts to steal. ♪ dignity demands a rapid covid test, ♪ because we all need an answer to move forward. ♪ dignity demands your heart stays connected to your doctor, so you know it's beating as it should. ♪ it demands a better understanding

start off as we have kind of an interesting breaking story on this. bill wong hired mike citric, the veteran pr guy whose represented harvey weinstein and many ceo's he's hired them to do the pr for his company following his funds massive blow out. i will say this , liz. again, citric doesn't work for free and he handles the biggest accounts in the business and also some of the most difficult cases and if he's on board with archegos, that means they aren't down to zero money and they had to have some money because mike doesn't work for free. we'll keep you updated but in terms of tesla, liz, i was talking to, you know, i talked to the shorts as well. yes, it was an impressive production number, they beat wall street estimates something like 180,000 vehicles, wall street was guessing around 170, those are round numbers by the

way, but what the shorts are telling me is don't expect much bang for the buck on this. a lot of these were vehicles with lower profit margins. they were telling me the model y for example, it's not, these are not the vehicles that they ramped up production, that really add to the bottom line of tesla. again, you know, it's a glass half full, glass half empty story and the half full one is selling in the markets although the stock was down a little today, but that's what the short s are saying, and yes, you can say they pick apart everything but that's what short sales are for and what they are pointing out simply is this , that if you look at revenues, this is not going to produce the revenues the other vehicles would do that they actually didn't grow in production. liz back to you. liz: charlie gasparino, big news out of tesla, 184,000 vehicles sold globally for the quarter. that's a record. that will do it for the "claman
