kennedy: chauvin now heading to prison for possible the rest of his life. these sentencing is two months now. as a libel to minneapolis. thousand national guard troops are on the streets. so far it is reportedly calm and somewhat jubilant. not long after the verdict came down the family of george floyd spoke and his brother said this. >> we are not going anywhere. i want to thank all the protesters, all of the attorneys who stepped up. all of the activists who stepped up. and many who think they are not activists but advocates thank you all. >> amen. >> because justice for george means freedom for all. similar such as the freddie great case. >> i think the big difference here kennedy is not so much the charges they brought as the nature of the evidence they had. that tape proved to be impossible for the defense to overcome in any way. it was not so much the charges are not that much more difficult to prove in another case as opposed to this case. it's really the evidence here was so graphic. and one of the charges quite frankly the depraved indifference homicide that may not be sustained. that may have nothing to do with this case for their sub parallel different but closely factually related case that's before the courts of minnesota that challenges whether that theory works on facts like this. the usual depraved indifference is someone shoots

a gun indiscriminately into a crowd not aiming at any particular person. but causing a lethal threat to everybody in the vicinity. that really was not this case. i think the other two counts are very sound periods back to you think those will hold on appeal? obviously there was a big uproar yesterday because of the motion for a mistrial from the defense. in judge cahill in the case said that may apply on appeal because of what maxine waters said to a crowd in minneapolis about being confrontational and taking to the streets. she obviously wanted derek chauvin charged with much more pizza how will that play out in appeal? >> i think it would not be much of an appellate issue if it were only yet another unhinged comment by maxine waters. not surprising there.

but this was not a one off. it was isolated, effectual contact were chauvin claim from the beginning he could not get a fair trial in hennepin county. minneapolis which was obliged to ensure he got due process waited until the judge was selecting the jury to announce that it reach a $27 million settlement with floyd's family which was really prejudicial timing and hard to believe it would not be deliberate. and then, about a week ago when the tragic event happened in brooklyn center were daunte wright was killed accidentally by a police officer, the defense pleaded with the judge to sequester the jury. the timing seemed to be right for that because there right at the end of the evidence the jury was going to be sequestered when they started deliberating anyway. so you could have gotten them insulated from all of the publicity and the craziness that was going on in the

vicinity of the courthouse. instead the judge sent them home for the weekend to marinate in it. and that waters made her remark. it is a separate question whether he got due process versus how compelling the evidence is. the appellate courts tend to say if the evidence is daunting, a lot of the errors that happen probably would not have made a difference. i don't think the judge would have said it's a significant appellate issue if it wasn't one. >> we will see going forward. what would the defense and prosecution like to hear from jurors at this point you think? if you are the prosecution you do not would go near the jury because only bad things can happen to the prosecution in that kind of connection. and what the defense with opposite like to hear his they did not give the case much

they supported. they maybe did not want to support it because they do now in a republican to be the author of it. it is a shame i hope both sides can come together get some bill through prayer there's a lot of commonality i think you'll find republicans and democrats able to support that will be significant changes that would prove to some of these awful types of situations in the future. >> alright so i asked andy a little bit day about how this case sort of changes how prosecutors charge of police officers in shootings like this that captivate the country and the world. but how does this change policing? if you are a police officer, is there anything about this that is good news? and if you weren't looking at this from a global perspective what can be done and ordered to improve policing from here on out? >> i always love to look at things from a global perspective, candidate. sue for you or mr. goodyear

blimp that's what they call you. >> in terms of what the bigger effects of this case are, i really think it is all going to be determined by what happens now. i think there's still a very good chance we might see some riots. one of the things people get wrong is they assume that the rioting or the would be rioting as a response to not guilty verdict. features is that a lot of people are just opportunist who are am tipped to do some rioting. they were kind of looking forward to it. now they are out, gathering and there still might be a lot of celebratory riots or riots about how this has not gone far enough. and if that happens i think it's really going to setback the movement for any type of criminal justice reform, police reform going forward. if there isn't any of that perhaps is an opportunity. this is kind of a unique case there's so much national attention, this was the case

this is a huge task the president has given her. what grade would you give at this point? >> obviously incomplete. just not paid any attention to the issue. the whole idea that i am going to target the underlying causes the big picture sort of issues here. it really ignores what is actually happening on the southern border which is driven by these cartels and mexico, they are profiting from this human trafficking effort they are engaged in birds going to continue to be a probably going to escalate as the weather warms upward and i think unfortunately this is a situation where kamla harris was not typically serious member of the u.s. senate when she was there. she is not a serious candidate which is why she flamed out so early within the 2020. kennedy: thank you tulsi gabbard. >> as michael that hawaiians do know how to cook things.

much creativity and so much inspiration to go forward and create a couple of different foundations. how did you maintain that hope? >> when i got out i was a lucky one part i had a lot of people pulling for me. but the majority of people in prison do not have celebrities or political people pulling for them. i knew i had to be the voice for the people left behind. one of the gentlemen mentioned earlier during the white house reading, luke is serving 22 years for following state law in california. he was prosecuted under a kingpin statute and is still in prison right now. kennedy: and he was offering medical marijuana parade this is not someone who is selling heroin at a middle school. but that is how many of these people are treated. now you have mission green which is part of your personal foundation. tell me about that and how are you helping people are still

incarcerated for marijuana crimes? >> we launch a project mission green to focus exclusively on people with federal type for cannabis for teresa the present biden to issue a proclamation that would grant a general pardon to anybody convicted of a cannabis felony. kennedy: and we are here on 4/20 and there are a lot of people per die read there's over 13000 clemency petitions still pending with the white house. is there anything stopping vice president harris and president biden from granting pardons or clemency to the people they promised to help? >> absently not. biden said on the campaign trail pretty set on the debate that no one should be in prison for cannabis. while he does not support full legalization supports decriminalization and expunging records but we're going to hold him to it. he made those promises and people are sitting in prison while watching the elite

know their transporting large amounts of cash all the time. all cash invites shenanigans. it is really discriminatory. >> it certainly is, kennedy. cannabis will have higher revenue this year than the nfl. no it is impossible to imagine just a little bit ago we were talking about the crisis at the border. these narco states that essentially run by narco terrorist for the run the government and rich themselves because cannabis and other drugs are still illegal federally in the united states. local federally legalizing marijuana due to them proof immigration and conditions in guatemala, wondrous, as well as mexico and the u.s.? >> the legalization of cannabis will create jobs.

>> i think we look at law enforcement there are going to be some transitions. we saw the transitions during the trial of derek chauvin. you had more law enforcement officers come in, they supposed to be the thin blue line, candy, or law enforcement officers are there to protect each other and not even testify against each other when a law enforcement do something wrong. and we found that in this case that law enforcement officers came forward. you had the chief of police said you have numerous law enforcement officials to come forward and testify against derek chauvin in this case. >> what is that tell you? >> that tells you there are a lot of good, decent, men and women in law enforcement. and when you see an arrest take place, sometimes
