forward. but we can't stop now. were in competition with china andd other countries to win the 21st century. maria: joining me the chairman and the ceo of the people's corporation don peebles, thank you very much for joining us are biden spending and tax proposals on individuals and businesses going to hamper growth, make us less competitive, what is your take on the spend and tax proposals we arere hearing abou. >> if we look at tax for example, the elimination of the preferred rate for long-term capital gain will have a devastating impact on long-term investment in real estate especially rental housing and investment in businesses and growth and of course in the long-term stock market, it'll have the opposite effect of moving the country forward, we've got to keep in mind the growth that were seen are the

states that have been on lockdown and beginning to open up and so were seen greater growth in that regard. i think these tax policies will have a devastating impact on the real estate industry overall and i don't think it's likely to get through congress, i think it ends up making states like california and new york very uncompetitive, were already struggling to compete with places like texas, ford, tennessee and it'll be more difficult under these circumstances with the increase in the federal taxes. maria: yet to look at the u.s. tax rates compared to the rest of the world, corporate rate is essential in terms of being competitive, the corporate rate that is competitive with the rest of the world is essential that what gets me is a capital gains tax increase, you're talking about cap gains going from 20% all the way to 43.4% for the highest earners because it's a double and you got at

added the 3.8% obamacare tax. that obviously is going to dictate behavior, are you going to sale your home this year where you don't get a 20% cap gain or next year we don't want to pay 43.4% to the government, tell me what happens if in fact that goes through. >> i think if that happens, first of all there will be ass massive selloff in the real estate market this year which y ultimately have the chilling effect on value and start movine value the other way. there will be a greater flight to places like florida, nevada, texas, tennessee where there's no state income tax, were talking about 150% increase in the basic premise why investors invest in longer-term real estate, they factor in the after-tax return onur investmen, a development for example versus

rental housing, investors look at how to protect dollars, it will take money out of the production of rental housing which are cities like newpr york and others around the country need more production of rental housing, has a devastating a negativehat in impact further digging a hole for new york city with regard to residential condo, more importantly office buildings as well. not a good thing, i hope, i don't think it gets through as is proposed, 115% tax increase on investment income would be devastating to all sectors of business. maria: tell me about office buildings, office buildings have already seen a huge upset because of the pandemic, employees don't want to go back to walking into a big building and having to go and work rather

than splitting their time working from home, will this exacerbate that, what your take on the office and office sector in terms of commercial real estate right now? >> you can see tax policy and political regulatory policy having an impact on theha real estate industry already. all you have to do is contrast new york city to florida, south florida, new york city is a record amount of vacancy in office space, a record amount of space being put on the market for office space, south florida is having a shortage of available office space, a shortage, the lowest numbers of availability in a very long time, all because of the migration down, the housing market in south florida is booming in all sectors off the market from the middle income all the way, that is happening because employers and

making headlines to what he said and for what he didn't say i spoke with former president donald trump and asked him what he thought the biden speech. >> one thing, he did not discuss the border and the fact that tens of thousands of people are pouring into our country, many of them criminals, many from jails, many doing acts that you don't want to know about and are pouring into our country by the thousands by a level that's never been seen before, they're doing absolutely nothing, the wall is almost completed it would've been completed if i didn't get sued by congress and the democrats everything will moment and we beatt those cases, we built most of the wall almost 500 miles of wall and all we have to do is close up certain areas until we gained title et cetera et cetera and they don't want to finish it, i heard they will finish it but by the time

gets warmer. >> it's going to get much worse, many more people are going to come up, there already be a need together when you look at these countries. i had a situation where i inherited a bad situation from president obama, it was a terrible terrible situation, the three countries plus mexico they were taken advantage very badly of the united states as you probably understand and know and i went to the three countries and i said you can't do this we were not allowed to bring back ms 13 gang members and criminals and we couldn't bring back criminals and after a while i said what kind of a deal is this and they come into the country and they won't take them back, they're sending a lot of people, these aren't just great people, hard-working people coming, these are criminals in many cases. you would not believe the percentage of drug dealers, rapists, human traffickers, we have murders by the way, we have

people coming into our country, they are coming in at a level that nobody's ever seen before and when i talk about the kind of people, i mean it 100%, i went to the countries and i said it's gotta stop and you gonna take back these people and they said no and i said that's okay and i said how much can we pay them, we pay them $500 million a year, that is a lot of money, split among three countries, i said were not making any more payments, theai following day i had a deal where they take back all of these criminals and we sent back ms 13ri another criminals by the thousands, they said we will take them back, we would be glad to take backak ms 13, as soon as i stop the money, instead of 500 million they hired as much as $4 billion, they're not going to know what to do with all that money, they never had money like that m givn to them, we've given them

maria: welcome back more now for my interview with former utpresident trump, here's what e said about biden's tax and spending plan. >> it'll be the largest tax increase in the history of our country and when you say it won't affect middle-class middle-class has 401ks and when you look at the capital gains tax that will have a massive impact on the middle class, itnd also have a massive impact on companies leaving our country, they allha came back with me the companies were pouring back into our country, that's why we were doing and we produce more jobs than anybody in the history of our country, 160 million jobs, we were never close to that number, we produced more from the african-american, hispanic americans, asians, women, the highest number of jobs in history and then we did it

corporate rate and then we saw them take their headquarters there, that's my question to you, what is my impact for example 43.4% capital gains tax, you sell your home and portfolio in your giving 43.4% to the government if you're in the highest earning bracket, the capital gains tax, the corporate tax and individual taxes were still not clear, president biden has not made clear whether it's 400,000 for families, 400,000 for individuals. this is a f very important poin, they certainly muddy it up and we don't know the answer everybody's taxes is going up. , what kind of an impact would you expect on the economy and the stock market? >> i got approved the largest tax decrease in the history of our country, bigger than ronald reagan decrease, this was the biggest was powerful tax

decrease, that is a very important word in the history of our country. they are now proposing the tothbiggest tax increase when yu talk capital granger talking about everybody you not talking just so-called wealthyou people. you're talking about everybody if they buy a stock no matter what they do, you're talking about everybody is going to be affected by that. but they're gonna be affected iy a more important way, companies will leave this country, many of them don't live here and many are from other countries and their loyalties to the shareholders and loyalties to the wallet, they will leave her so quickly if they can have another country and i brought taxes down to among the lower tax nations, not the lowest i couldn't get it down to that level, among the lower tax nations and the large industrial nation the lowest, they're gonna drive all of these companies

president biden came in, the economy was beginning to turn, were gonna see gdp in the u.s. in 2021 mr. president of up to 9%, why do we need all the spending, $6 trillion in spending and a month and a half and you've got an economy that may not need that, sure people are happy if you throw money at them but a at some point this comes home to roost in terms of our debt. where do you see our economy, does it take a hit at some point? >> the reason you see gdp is the foundation that we built. we built something that is incredible, what will happen with the tax increases in the border with all these people in, what will happen you will start to seell negative effects eventually. if you do tax increases, it

never happened so quickly but in the have a devastating impact ultimately down the road, that's what's going to happen and with all the spending a lot of the gdp in the stimulus that there pouringnt into, it is sort of fe when you look at it like the fake media, it is fake, it is showing something that the economy is doing better than it is, they're not real numbers, also energy, energy independent, were not to be energy independent, for the first time we were energy independent gasoline prices, look what's happening there going up through the roof in a short p period of time, i had it down below $2 and we still had a b strong industr, another lane everybody off, why did they lay them off, look at the pipeline the head of the union should be fired, i was building the pipeline, i overrode the veto of the previous administration so i

building the keystone pipeline, the dakota access pipeline, rebuilding all of that stuff, now they want to stop other pipelines that are already built in all of these workers are out of business, the pipeline workers are out of business and their unions have always supported democrats. so they supported biden. those union heads should be fired by all those people who don't have a job because if i were president right now they would all be working like crazy which environmentally are much better than trains but of course warren buffett owns trains and he's a big democrat, maybe that has something to do with it. because stopping the keystone pipeline has nothing, it does nothing good for this country, the real number is 49000 people. they like to say 8000, is 49000 people ultimately, for them to

her country grows larger, i took a vote ride with the rio grande texas attorney general ken paxton, it was quite an eye-opener. watch. were about to get in the vote with ag paxton and we will be touring the rio grande. right here is mexico, that park, this park in mexico is controlled by the drug cartels. if you want to get into that park, you have to pay the smugglers and the drug cartels, you cannot get into the park, they're all watching us right now. they know the agents are here, were patrolling the waters, as soon were gone, they will radio in and say coast is clear, more smugglers will come in. is it effective or do the drug cartels not care. what we sing, talk to us about where we saw that fence. >> that the first time i've seen is the land owner that bought the 3-mile fence to protect his

not include the drug trafficking, the human trafficking that they do that they have greater access because the border patrol agents are busy taking care of the families coming across. maria: the vote tour is so effective because you can see how close is is, mexico to texas. if they're gonna dump a baby in the river, you guys are going to rescue the baby and then they just get it crossed. >> they will throw kids under the vote and our people go rescue them and they bring the rest of the people in safely to cross the border. maria: if you see this, you get it, bethea administration has not come down to see this. >> i don't think they want to draw attention to it because they realize they created this problem, they have discarded and the policies that obama plays that clearly did not work, they've adopted policies but they don't want to highlight to the american people. maria: what an incredible situation that we are witnessing on the ground. what you have to say in terms of where we are right now, let's

start there. >> it's a disaster i spent a lot of time talking to shares the have to deal with this and border patrol and customs and immigration and state police, it's a disaster and when you see these facilities and kids that are sitting there wondering what's going to happen, where are they going, they're all confined together with possibly spreading covid, it is a disaster. maria: we've been to a lot of these facilities, you tried to visit the donna facility where many people including senator ted cruz and other senators have told us that the capacity because of covid is 250 people there's more than 4000 people in the facility, what happened when you went there. >> we were turned down. maria: you're the attorney general, you were turned down. >> they do not want me too see the donna facility, that is straight from officials in washington because of covid i shouldn't be allowed into the facility. maria: that's incredible, here is the vice president said one answer would be to send

$310 million to the northern triangle countries. what do you think about the answer, send the money to encourage them not to come. >> i would rather send that to the border here and help people here then oppose of sending it there, it'll be lost to politicians and drug cartels, that is a loss of money an opportunity to help people in texas. maria: the department of homeland security say it will launch a new operation to combat trafficking and smuggling at the border. this will be led by custom and border protection according to dhs protection allie hand german orchids. >> that doesn't make sense either, they are still occupied by dealing with immigrants coming in here they cannot do that job. they have a high percentage of the people working at these facilities doing logistics and transportation so they're not on the border, the cartels no that it is open for business, if anybody's making a lot of money into cartels, they are charging these people $4000 per person to come appear in their making

about that what kind of volume are you seeing their. >> last year we sold 90000 entries, 90000 the entire year, this year were close to 200,000. maria: they're coming here and boats and what, how are they getting across? >> right now a likely chance that there's a smuggler in that brush across, they will pay a smuggler, the cartels, they will pay these kids to stay in the trees all day in their discounting, they are just viewing where the agents are at, their calling out an agent whether the downriver or an agent here, another common tactic, families and unaccompanied children, they will cross them, 1500 people at
