"the evening edit," we're going to start it right now. ♪♪ elizabeth: let's start with republican claudia tenney. it's great to have you on, congressman. what do you think of this new house intelligence report about covid-19 escaping from the wuhan lab? it looks like they've got more evidence of that than that it exists in nature. what do you think? >> well, that is not a big with surprise. we've been on this, and we heard about it. there's been some famous sequences between senator rand ulpaul and dr. fauci. we know through the echo health alliance which is sort of a proxy for the wuhan lab that we've indirectly funded this lab with united states money. we know china is developing biological weapons, we know they've been involved in working with covid-19, covid viruses, you know, for years, and now this is being revealed by intelligence. it's time for the chinese to come forward and admit what happened and tell us the truth. we shouldn't have to do an

investigation. they should come clean, you know, with the world health organization and all off us. elizabeth: the u.s. agency for international development also is said to have funded this research as well. should dr. fauci and the cdc, hhs, should everybody open the books and give a full accounting, show all the records? >> absolutely. i think the american people have a right to know. this t virus kill over half a million people just in the united states alone, and it has shut down our economy, shut down businesses, it's been a tragedy, and china needs to be held accountable. i'd like too see the transparency. i think it'se time now to put those records out. elizabeth: devin nuñes says there's a chance u.s. funding may have helped wuhan labs secretly working with the chinese military to do this supervirus research. you know, the nih lifted ban on that research in 2017. sit tight, claudia, congresswoman, we're going to come back to you, here's the president talking about the ceasefire now between the israel and p hamas.

diplomacy. i also appreciate the contributions of other parties in the region who have been engaged in working toward the end of hostilities. these hostilities have resulted in a tragic death -- in the tragic deaths of so many civilians including children, and i send my sincere condolences to all the families, israeli and palestinian, who have lost loved ones and my hope for a full recovery for the wounded. the united states committed to working with the united nations, and we remain committed to working with the united nations and other international stakeholders to provide rapid humanitarian assistance and to martial international support for the people of gaza and the gaza reconstruction efforts. we will do this in full partnership with the palestinian authority, notni hamas, the authority, in a manner that does not permit hamas to simply restock its military arsenal. i believe the palestinians and israelis equally deserve to live safely and securely and to enjoy

[inaudible conversations] elizabeth: okay. that was president biden announcing the ceasefire between israel and hamas. congresswoman claudia ten theny back with us. -- tenny back with us. the president also talking about democracy and peace for the gaza strip as well. congresswoman, what did you think of that? >> well, he just talked about being quiet and diplomatic, but from the very beginning he has projected weakness. and when you project weakness in the middle east, the bad players are going to take advantage. like hamas. there was an election that was

canceled, and that's a among the reasons they sent over 4,000 missiles into israel where israel had to respond. this is concerning that he's going to continue to maybe work with iran who is also, you know, a ma live lent -- malevolent player in the field. we don't know how much iran has participated or cooperated with hamas. i'm concerned the palestinian authority is weak. we knoww that president abbas is weak, and he doesn't -- he, you know, doesn't have a large coalition behind him that the were canceled may have been devastating for him. i'm concerned that president biden -- i'm very grateful for the ceasefire, i think it's great news, and kudos to him and there administration for getting there right now. i think this is an ongoing issue, but we cannot project weakness. we must project strength which is why the policies put in place by president trump were so successful in bringingum about e peace accord, the abraham accords and others. you know, small steps, but they

were magnificent and fantastic, something we haven't seen in the middle east. i worry, i still worry -- i hold out hope that there will be peace, but hamas is emboldened in some ways, and we'll see how -- i pray it's lasting, but we'll see where this ends up. elizabeth: yeah. there was talk of president trump getting the nobel peace prize for the abraham accords. there's also talk of fears of a third intifada, you know, what's happening betweenen israel and hamas. we've got 200 killed in the gaza strip, a dozennen israelis killed as well. it look like a ceasefire for now, feels tenuous. so that's what's happening now. so how does this play into a future iran deal? >> i'm very concerned that president biden is going to put us back into an iran deal. the former jcpoa which president trump smartly got us out of did not protect us in the region.

he put maximum pressure, that was the campaign that was devised by the trump white house that really brought us this abraham accords and a hope for the middle east for the first time in my lifetime anyway. i'm very concerned. i hope that he continues to be strong and use the pressure and theur strength that is projected by president trump, it would be great for president biden. i t think it would bring us lasting peace. elizabeth: congresswoman, thanks so much for joining us. really appreciate it. let's bring in former hhs assistant secretary dr. brett giroir. we're talking a lot about geopolitics tonight. we want to shift over to what is going on in china. this is the a serious issue. we can't have another pandemic like we've experienced. did the u.s. fund china's supervirus research in. >> well, thanks for having me on i do share the assessment of the republican security committee that the most likely origin of this virus was the wuhan institute of virology.

there is no specific smoking gun, but the circumstantial evidence is overwhelming, and the lack of another explanation is equally overwhelming. and i think very clearly back in the 2014-2015 era the nih was funding research that was published and we know about it about gain of function i mutations op on this type of virus. and i think there is a lot of investigation that needs to be done. if youou look at the series of grants that were funded, they all talked about bats, they all talked about coronavirus. but i would bet dollars to doughnuts that the nih does not have record or controls to understand exactly what was done. so it's very possible we did fund this research. elizabeth: why help china fund this research when its labs have been known to be unsafe? sars leaked out of a beijing lab in 2004. 200 quarantined, multiple people got sick. why help china which has a history of being up safe and

accredits its own lab, and the military in china is thought to be involved here? why help china do this work? >> i think the american people deserve specific answers to all those questions. you know, it's not just about funding good science. there are implications to what hagets funded. there's danger, you know, a worldwide pandemic that could have arisen because of it. there's the potential for funding biological weapons that couldd be used against our allies. it's not just about getting a good grant in and everybody saying, this is great, let's fund it. it's about all these other issues that you point out so accurately. i think we need a congressional investigation, i thinkig we need specific oversight. we have to get to the bottom of this because that research is still ongoing there and in a number of other labs in china and around the world, many of whom we probably fund. elizabeth: dr. fauci adamantly denies this, then says there was a minor collaboration, minor amount of money.

doesn't acknowledge that he wrote an op is ed saying, yeah, in order to get vaccines. then the nih lifts the ban on funding in 2017. opening the books, a commission into this? >> well, 100% we need to, quote, open the books. the problem is i can an guarantee you that the nih doesn't have the records of what actually they funded. the grants are are not like a contract. you sort of send money, and at the end of the year you write a little report about what i did on summer vacation. it really is that sort of that lax. that works very. well in the united states, and i want to kkeep that to support our researchers, but when you're talking about places likela chi. you need to be much more rigorous. we need to get to the bottom of this. elizabeth: okay. thank you so much for joining us. come back soon. still ahead, jason chaffetz will help us break down this story, did president biden throw environmentalists under the bus

elizabeth: joining us now, fox news contrir jason chaffetz. it's good to see you again. okay, the president green lights and okays russia's polluting nordstream ii, but greenpeace, world wildlife fund, environmentalists say this gas pipeline out of russia, this fuel pipeline is ruining the ocean,li ruining beaches. so did the president just throw environmentalists under the bus? >> i think he threw everybody under the bus. i mean, in america he shut down the keystone pipeline. he said that he thought it was bad for the environment, but then goes over and appeases russia. i mean, how long did they accuse donald trump of being a shill for russia? ends up joe biden is doing favors for russia. so nobody's happy here. nobody's happy about, you know, cuddling up and doing what vladimir putin wanted. and then the environmentalists

bring up all these environmental concerns, and they're upset too. so it really does beg the question, liz, why would they do this? why prioritize russia over the united states of america? it does not make sense. elizabeth: let's stay on your point. if trump had done this, if he had green lighted the nordstream pipeline after one of his children got more m than $3 million from the wife of the former mayor of moscow -- that being hunter biden -- there would be screams of impeachment again. this okay? >> it's not okay. this is the whole point, it's misdirection by the democrats who screamed russia, russia, russia on everything that had to do with donald trump and then we're barely 1 is 00 plus days into the biden administration, look at all the things he's done to appease and make things easier for russia? but at the same time, what's so offensive are thee people who would have and did make their money on the keystone pipeline.

the president didn't take but a few hours to shut down our ability to be energy independent and close off energy production on public lands. particularly out west in utah and in nevada, in wyoming. boy, these are real jobs, good paying jobs and the ability to fuel our future. but he seems to be spending a lot more time worried about getting, you know, fuel from russia into eastern europe, and that's what's so offensive, makes no sense, and it's certainly not good, in the best interest of the united states oe america. why do this, mr. prime presiden? elizabeth: the biden administration, a week ago russian hackers shut down the u.s.' biggest pipeline, the cloal january. just like russia shut down ukraine's power. to we've got white house press secretary jen psaki saying how can you stop a pipeline in another country that's 95% built

when the keystone pipeline was fully completed more than ten years ago? we just don't understand the logic of blocking key stoarntion opposing dakota access, pipelines destroy the environment, but don't pipelines destroy the environment overseas? thiser nordstream ii has been polluting germany's baltic coast on beaches and in the ocean including also coming out of the nature preserves and then thpollutes the baltic sea. how is that okay? environmentalists gotta be upset about this. >> they have to be upset, but i want the administration to tell us why this was such an imperative to actually get done. the keystone pipeline was important w to canada, it was important to bring ourselves to the point where we could be energy independent. he shut off our own ability to develop energy resources in the united states so we could export these energy products like clean natural gas --

elizabeth: hang o on. iou want to ask you a question. the pipeline that the michigan governor wanted to shut down -- sathey're saying, forget it, wee ignoring you. we're just going to keep doing what we're doing with our pipeline. what if companies say, you know what? we're going to ignore you, biden administration, we're not going to shut down. what would happen in. >> i don't know. that would be an interesting way to go. but, you know, all kinds of legal lawsuits flying every single direction. but let's understand donald trump made a very clear directive, be energy independent. and that brought untold safety and security to the united states, and it drove down energy costs. what i want the viewers to understand at home for american energy, democrats fundamentally do not want lower energy prices because they believe if you drive more, that's bad for the environment.nt so they're just fine raising the price of gas and having these energy products go sky high. elizabeth: well, they're driving their own cars, right?

and his pr team and his law in multiple strategy sessions on how to push back against seven women accusing the governor of sexual harassment allegations made earlier this year by women who worked for the governor. this is the not a good look for a tv anchor advising a politician in trouble, helping him launder his scandals. what do you say? >> well, nothing he's done so far, chris cuomo, with respect to his brother looks very good. the way that they covered the pandemic early on with respect to governor cuomo when he was a darling and a hero, having him on and putting the swab that was, you know, that was the size puof a big barbecue mop in his nose and making jokes about it. that was inappropriate too. he's a major public figure making comments critical of the president. doesn't matter whether he's supporting or being critical of the president, i don't think he should have been appearing on the show at all. he washe a major newsmaker with respect to covid, governor cuomo

was.mo so the fact that cnn, when governor cuomo got it -- . [audio difficulty] elizabeth: chris cuomo was helping his brother strategize with women accusing the governor of sex e yule harassment, but cnn isis not disciplining chris cuomo. this soundsli like a big hit to their credibility. and the request question also is where's the commission for investigating the cuomo family in. >> what credibility? credibility with who? they don't have a lot of credibility with me. you mean a further hit to their already weakened credibility? it could be, and you bring out something that's the second problem with chris cuomo's coverage. the first thing was to have his brother on at all, but also to be acting as a political adviser while he is supposedly an impartial moderator is as

separate ethical problem from a journalistic perspective, i would think. elizabeth: you know, chris cuomo also colluded with michael cohen before his tv interviews. this is a pattern. but cnn, again, not doing anything about that. i want to ask you this, governor request cuomo blamed, quote, toxic political times when he was asked about giving his family preferential vip treat for covid testing including sending a state doctor to the hamptons to test chris cuomo and his family at their mull by million dollar home in the -- multimillion dollar home in the hamptons, and those results were expedited at a tate lab. so, you know -- state lab. so the doj's investigating that too in a criminal probe. what couldes be the potential criminality here? >> well, that's what's, that's what's so amazing here. that certainly is a scandal, the special access that his family members and other key cronies

got for a long period of time up until the present, from what i understand. but the fact that the department of justice would be looking at that is quite striking. i mean, they're already looking at the phony records and the omissions from the state records. that's understandable. that's 18usc1001. you can't make false statements, material statements or omissions in any manner within the jurisdiction of a u.s. department or agency. very broad statute, interpreted broadly. sobr that's one thing. that didn't surprise me -- elizabeth: you mean on the -- sorry, you mean on the nursing home deaths. >> sorry, exactly. where they fudged the numbers. but now looking at this, which is really when you think about it a political scandal, you have to think for a minute what's the federal statute. well, there is a federal statute that apparently they may be looking at. it's 18 u.s. code 66 of. we used to jokingly refer to it as the mark of the beast when

the u.s. attorney's office when with i was there. and it is a very broad statute that covers misapplication of state funds where the state is receive ising federal funds and federal help. and usually that is reserved for bribes and bra dueties given or asked for by state officials. so you've got to think why are are they looking at that in connection with that. and all i can think of -- and i have no inside knowledge or anything like that, all i can think is of according to one of the stories they were asking for political support from people in the state senate at the same time that they were talking, having discussions with them about the availability of vaccines. so that could be -- who knows, if i they're looking at that, that's amazing. elizabeth: yeah. andit it's abuse of powers, stae workers ands state assets for your own political -- rather, personal gain. sol wisenberg, thanks for your insights. it's great to see you. thanks again.

♪ elizabeth: joinings now is ohio republican brad wenstrup. it's good to have you on, congressman. you sit e on house intelligence. thank you so much for joining us. what were your thoughts when you saw senate republicans sending a letter to the cdc and the hhs demanding a full accounting of how the powerful teachers union, the aft, got the cdc to shut down the reopening of schools across the country? this is pretty bad stuff. what do you say? >> yeah. i thought i'd wear my white don't as a physician tonight to talk about this in particular, right? we have thegh teachers union, american federation of teachers, they're -- they actually have said that biden asked the teachers for language that the cd the c should use for guidelines -- cdc should use for guidelines. so now t the teachers union are writing the guidelines. so what itt comes across as, tht the teachers union then give them the guidelines that they

want, and then the cdc is going to craft it to what they desire rather than the science. certainly, the cdc has seen classrooms. my kids have been in school this entire year without a problem. there were some family members of the kids that got covid-19, they addressed it, they quarantined, they got treated, everyone kept going to school. this can be done, the science has proven it can be done, but the teachers unions are in control when it comes to so many of our communities across america where they're, i guess, deciding what the science is. you know, president biden made a pledge to insure that, you know, we're going to the cdc, and it's going to be evidence-based. but we have a teachers union that would seem to be bent on how to get to no, how to get to no on opening the schools. so the so the unions have been the number one obstacle to education, and it is hurting a generation of our children, for sure. i know in my district i see the kids, they weren't in school, they don't have a computer at home, heir -- they're not doing
