citiesal steps. reporter: now the northern border is open to canadians by air but closed to northern essential travel by road even to folks who are vaccinated. liz, angry democrats, senate democrats from states that touch the northern border sent a letter to president biden urging him to reopen it. they say it is hurting businesses that depend on canadian tourism. but gop senator steve daines really underlined what he believes is the hypocrisy of this policy as unvaccinated migrants continue to cross the southern border at free will. >> with vaccination rates of haitians less than 1%, yet you have having nation of canadians north of 70%, montanans are saying this is unacceptable and frankly it makes no sense. reporter: liz, just today daines introduced a bicameral bill to

require biden to reopen the northern border, adding pressure on the white house to do something about it at least explain to both democrats and republicans why it is still closed. liz? elizabeth: asia, great journalism there, good to have you on. joining me former acting director of national intelligence, he is ric grenell. great to see you again. what is your reaction to what is happening at the border? >> well thanks for having me, first of all. you know it is troubling because when you look at the border, and you look what was handed to the biden administration, the trump administration handed him a very stable border. don't forget we welcome a million people a year into this country to become u.s. citizens. we're very generous nation. to person watching this broadcast should ever think that america is not generous. we're not stingy. we welcome. we're alls the ones who rush in. we give more money to u.n.

programs than any other country but you have to have rules and so i always say we need a big wall and a wide gate and right now what we have is a border crisis. everybody can see it. the media in washington, d.c., they don't want to admit it guess what, everybody outside of washington, d.c., sees it and they're outraged by it. when i talk to people in california, they say, this is a huge crisis. we need to focus on having a country with borders. if you don't have a country with borders, then you don't have a country. and that's the troubling part here. because as you know, liz, 100 million people want to come into this country. we can't just throw the rules out. again, we're very generous. we welcome people but there are rules. you have to follow the rules and about the way, the line which is really long, a whole bun of people are wait in line. the ones who are in line are

furious that people are cutting the line. elizabeth: that's a good point. reports coming in, 30,000, caravans of 30,000, potentially coming out of south america heading to the border. >> the word is out. elizabeth: the word is out. >> the word is out, right? just get to the border. now we're seeing haitians. we're seeing people from almost every nation, flying into mexico and then coming in. elizabeth: we have al sharpton at the border calling border patrol racist. you know, white house is saying border patrol no longer use horses to do their job because reporters don't understand, border patrol has been using horses for generations. they have been rescuing migrants of all cultures and backgrounds for generations. there is this uncomfortable video featuring joe biden in 1994 that is now surfacing his remarks on haiti. watch this. >> if haiti, god awful thing to say, if haiti quietly sunk into the caribbean, rose up 300 feet, it wouldn't matter a whole lot to -- >> doesn't the world --

elizabeth: that is quite a thing to say. what do you say? >> well i served at the u.n. for eight years and we've struggled to get the humanitarian situation in haiti right. this is outrageous, to somehow dismiss people who are right here in our region, it is, it is troubling to see, joe biden has done this the media ignored this. he has been a politician for so long he has been on both sides of every single issue that has ever come forward. i just think that we need to be able to speak very clearly and talk about this border crisis and ignore the media because you know the media will always call is racist, sexist, homophobes, it doesn't work anymore. we're focusing on big issues. this administration, biden administration is literally falling apart. you look at the fact we have no ambassador in germany. we have no ambassador in france. france has withdrawn their ambassador. we have no ambassador at the uk,

nato, i could go through the list. it is really sad. we have a secretary of state who stands up is back. it is on its back, it is not back. elizabeth: the bridge camp is now being cleared out. it is dropping under 5000 in number. the white house still doesn't have the hard data who is being deported and who is being released into the interior. you're right, we are a humanitarian country but the lack of transparency, reporters have been criticizing the white house over that. two years ago we had then senator kamala harris, senator elizabeth warren, we had people going to the border including aoc to shame then president trump. they're not showing up at the border. the only time they're now getting interested in the border is talk about the border officials using horses. so we, press secretary also doesn't know if president biden has ever even been to the border. let's play this sound bite here. watch this.

there is a line. all of these people cutting in line are not just staying in texas. they're going to all 50 states. they're getting out of texas. so what the democrats are missing in their partisanship, in order to just give it to a red state like texas, they don't understand that every other state including blue states are also feeling this pressure of illegal immigrants coming into our communities. and again, i want to emphasize, i like to start and finish, we're a very generous country, a million people a year get citizenship. we have 100 million people trying to get in. we got to have rules. elizabeth: watch senator john kennedy on this. watch this. >> this year over 2 million people will come into this country illegally and we don't have the slightest idea who they are. now, i think it is worth asking why? and to me there are only one of two possible explanations. the first is incompetence.

it may be that the president has put in charge of his immigration policy a bunch of pink haired wokers who doesn't know their ass from their elbow. the second possibility is that this is all intentional. that the president believes in an open border policy and, you have to watch what people do, not what they say. he doesn't want to say it to the american people because he knows that will be about as popular with the american people as a fever blister. elizabeth: okay. your final word. >> look, let's be very clear the political appointees at dhs, including the dhs secretary they don't want to know the numbers, but career folks do know the numbers. our career officials at dhs absolutely know the numbers. elizabeth: rick grenell, thanks

elizabeth: durham indictment of clinton campaign lawyer michael sussman. buzz of unnamed silicon valley executive that was so powerful that he ad had access to databases at multiple companies. it was so out there not even robert mueller touched it.

david spunt in washington with more. reporter: liz, going through a procedural hearing this week attorneys for the government mentioned potential classified information, meaning sussman's team would need to get clearance before reviewing that potentially sensitive information. michael sussman was indicted one week ago today as part of special counsel john durham's prone into the origins of the russia investigation. we do not know the identity of the technology executive mentioned in the indictment. durham claims sussman, an attorney for the clinton campaign in 2016 went to the fbi, said i have some information linking donald trump and russia. durham says sussman was not clear what capacity he was delivering the information. was it as a clinton lawyer or just a good citizen? according to durham sussman claimed he was doing it as a good citizen when he delivered the information, information that did not pan out. in 2 1/2 years durham charged two people in the probe. sussman and this man on your screen, kevin clinesmith. former fbi attorney who need

they are mining data, researchers out of universities funded with federal grants. they had security clearances in the intelligence community. these researches saying, this feels quote, bogus. all we got to go on, they hate trump. and they were told just give enough to provide the base of a very useful narrative. you don't have to look for proof. right? so this feels like this is going to be more charges coming, privacy charges, grant fraud, contract fraud, mail fraud, conspiracy, go ahead. >> wire fraud, yes. it is interesting, as the tech analysts were looking at the data, this won't withstand any kind of scrutiny. there is nothing here. but it was interesting, this tech executive, we don't know who it is. the internet is full of guesses who this person is, but they didn't say look for the truth. was there really a connection between donald trump and russia? they said look for, we're looking for a narrative. can we build a narrative, if we get the fbi to start an investigation and we can get left-wing, you know media types

like "mother jones" which is involved in the story as well to write about it, we can create this narrative around donald trump which of by the way we spent four years on russia collusion and it was a cloud over donald trump's head. but liz, to your point this is road map how democrats actually operate. elizabeth: we have to move on to this. >> to attack republicans. elizabeth: we have to move on to jake sullivan, right? he was senior policy advisor for hillary clinton. he made statements if this was a real thing, trump and the russian alfa bank. he made like it was an independent sleuths finding it out. so did hillary clinton, when it was bought and paid for by the clinton campaign and democrats. sullivan testified under oath in december of 2017 that he did not know anything about this democrat-backed research, this opposition research. he didn't know what his law firm was doing working on the steele dossier. he testify ad year after the campaign and the election in in 2017. he, it was so farfetched what he

biggest energy conglomerate, cefc, was for the big guy, allegedly meaning joe biden. your take on this story? >> yeah. well, is anybody surprised? we knew this a year ago, liz. this is, this is the reason quite frankly that we know they censored the hunter biden laptop story because we all knew it was true. they knew from the social media platforms that it would be damaging to their candidate of choice, joe biden. they went out of their way to shut down any story that looked negative in any way for joe biden, especially this hunter biden laptop story. heck, the "new york post" was kicked off of twitter for a while over this and they say that it is because they don't allow, quote, unquote, hacked material to be spread on twitter. well what about when "the new york times" fraudulently got donald trump's tax returns, they were happy to have that posted everywhere? the double standard is so glaring here. we all knew this to be true. we have all known that joe

spring, quote, the laptop certainly could be his. right? so this, the white house has been history, lara, really pressuring journalists and bullying journalists and calling them, putting the heat on them and they buckle, right? you saw cnn, msnbc, "the new york times," "huffington post," new york post, this is russian disinformation. well maybe it is not. it looks like it is true. >> it certainly looks like it is true. you look at the other side of things, i heard you talking about the clinton campaign lawyer, michael sussman who was indicted for lying to the fbi, starting entire russian collusion hoax. i want this gentleman to know what he put so many good people through. not my father-in-law. they were doing everything possible to stop donald trump from winning the white house. think of the taxpayer money that went into the whole investigation into it.

think about good people fought alongside my father-in-law, good people who loved america, had to lawyer up for this nonsense. they were happy, to take that story, liz, run with it. anything that looks bad for joe biden they're happy to hide under the rug -- elizabeth: security officials, they talked about that potentially being russian disinformation too. i got to talk about this. business insider obtained emails indicating that democrat donors were talking about, and business contacts were talking about using hunter biden, touting his access to his father, state department, treasury, relationship with john kerry's stepson to, quote, get to the highest level in china to do a deal with libya right? this is potential deal with libya. this is in 2015 when biden was vice president. your reaction to this? >> hunter biden has been a liability to joe biden from day one. it is pretty clear he will do pretty much anything to get machine any. he will sell access to the highest office in the land.

to this secretary or this administration when it comes to defending our border and is enforcing the laws which is why we have the catastrophic and epic failure of a crisis at our border. elizabeth: so, you know, we have now the white house and the media seizing on a distraction, right? it's about officials on horseback when they've been using them for generations. the individuals were not whipped, you know in so there's that distraction going on. and, by the way, border patrol has been rescuing migrants out of rivers and desertses and more for years. this is what i want to talk to you about, biden's former border patrol chief, rodney scott, nearly a 30-year career law enforcement. he wrote a letter on 9/11 saying, listen, transnational gangs are blowing out the size of the bridge camp to distract, to pull off border patrol. they want to push drugs, human

trafficking, and even terrorists across the border. what do you say to that? >> he's right, it's a national securitying molotov cocktail. you've got the combination of the taliban now with the keys, reversed all gains that we made, and you have a breeding ground for isis-k or al-qaeda or whatever the name, it's terrorists who hate america, want to destroy america, want to kill americans, and you've got a wide open border with zero interest, complete derelictioning of the sacred duty to provide for a common if defense. so it's a recipe for further disaster on top of the human smuggling, on top of the crime and the gangs coming over to our country, wreaking havoc on our families and our neighborhoods and towns throughout the country. now you've got this greater risk of terrorism, and it's all because of a president that refuses to do the people's

their hearing. we don't have this information, this administration's not sharing it. here's what we do know, we do know there have been people on the terrorist watch list who have come across. we know that we have 160 countries represented in those who are crossing our border illegally. and we know with respect to crime you have about a fourfold increase in criminal aliens apprehended. 1500% increase in criminal aliens who have been is convicted of manslaughter and murder on our soil have been apprehended. 150% increase -- elizabeth: and you need border patrol for that, right? >> you need border patrol. you need law enforcement. but the border patrol are -- they've been taken off their security mission to be social workers. so once again they're distracted and you've got the drug cartels -- paramilitary, narco terrorists, drug cartels in complete control laughing all the way to the bank as they
