citiesal steps. reporter: now the northern border is open to canadians by air but closed to northern essential travel by road even to folks who are vaccinated. liz, angry democrats, senate democrats from states that touch the northern border sent a letter to president biden urging him to reopen it. they say it is hurting businesses that depend on canadian tourism. but gop senator steve daines really underlined what he believes is the hypocrisy of this policy as unvaccinated migrants continue to cross the southern border at free will. >> with vaccination rates of haitians less than 1%, yet you have having nation of canadians north of 70%, montanans are saying this is unacceptable and frankly it makes no sense. reporter: liz, just today daines introduced a bicameral bill to

programs than any other country but you have to have rules and so i always say we need a big wall and a wide gate and right now what we have is a border crisis. everybody can see it. the media in washington, d.c., they don't want to admit it guess what, everybody outside of washington, d.c., sees it and they're outraged by it. when i talk to people in california, they say, this is a huge crisis. we need to focus on having a country with borders. if you don't have a country with borders, then you don't have a country. and that's the troubling part here. because as you know, liz, 100 million people want to come into this country. we can't just throw the rules out. again, we're very generous. we welcome people but there are rules. you have to follow the rules and about the way, the line which is really long, a whole bun of people are wait in line. the ones who are in line are

elizabeth: that is quite a thing to say. what do you say? >> well i served at the u.n. for eight years and we've struggled to get the humanitarian situation in haiti right. this is outrageous, to somehow dismiss people who are right here in our region, it is, it is troubling to see, joe biden has done this the media ignored this. he has been a politician for so long he has been on both sides of every single issue that has ever come forward. i just think that we need to be able to speak very clearly and talk about this border crisis and ignore the media because you know the media will always call is racist, sexist, homophobes, it doesn't work anymore. we're focusing on big issues. this administration, biden administration is literally falling apart. you look at the fact we have no ambassador in germany. we have no ambassador in france. france has withdrawn their ambassador. we have no ambassador at the uk,

there is a line. all of these people cutting in line are not just staying in texas. they're going to all 50 states. they're getting out of texas. so what the democrats are missing in their partisanship, in order to just give it to a red state like texas, they don't understand that every other state including blue states are also feeling this pressure of illegal immigrants coming into our communities. and again, i want to emphasize, i like to start and finish, we're a very generous country, a million people a year get citizenship. we have 100 million people trying to get in. we got to have rules. elizabeth: watch senator john kennedy on this. watch this. >> this year over 2 million people will come into this country illegally and we don't have the slightest idea who they are. now, i think it is worth asking why? and to me there are only one of two possible explanations. the first is incompetence.

david spunt in washington with more. reporter: liz, going through a procedural hearing this week attorneys for the government mentioned potential classified information, meaning sussman's team would need to get clearance before reviewing that potentially sensitive information. michael sussman was indicted one week ago today as part of special counsel john durham's prone into the origins of the russia investigation. we do not know the identity of the technology executive mentioned in the indictment. durham claims sussman, an attorney for the clinton campaign in 2016 went to the fbi, said i have some information linking donald trump and russia. durham says sussman was not clear what capacity he was delivering the information. was it as a clinton lawyer or just a good citizen? according to durham sussman claimed he was doing it as a good citizen when he delivered the information, information that did not pan out. in 2 1/2 years durham charged two people in the probe. sussman and this man on your screen, kevin clinesmith. former fbi attorney who need
