"the evening edit" starts right now. ♪. elizabeth: okay. welcome to the show. you're watching the fox business network. now the white house is scrambling to try and fight rising gas prices. they're up a big 48% versus last year. are you feeling it at the pump? it is the highest in seven years. now democrats do face losing control of congress next year. the white house is now talking about tapping the strategic petroleum reserve. that is an unusual move for this. edward lawrence sat white house with more. edward, good to see you. reporter: well, liz the problem can be seen at an accelerating

rate at the gas pump also in our wallets. overnight the gallon of gas, the average gallon increased two cents to $3.24 per gallon. thatthat is a 48% increase fromt we were paying last year. people using oil to heat homes, $3.17. last year more than a dollar cheaper per gallon. you see the trend. republican senators are blaming senator joe biden. >> democrats are completely anti-fossil fuel. here is the news flash. the economy will be powered by fossil fuel for decades. you cannot replace fossil fuels with renewable energy in the near future. the more you inflict harm on america's energy sector more russia, middle east will benefit from our weakness. reporter: department of energy spokesperson says all options are on the table using the strategic petroleum reserves but

no action has been taken. white house press secretary jen psaki say they are talking with opec and as well as investigating companies in the gas supply chain. that will bring down prices. europe found itself in a mounting crisis with natural gas prices. recently russian president vladmir putin said they will pump more gas to meet demand. they believe it was a state-owned natural gas plant was slow to increase supply that created this problem. back to you. elizabeth: that is a great report. edward lawrence good to see you. to be clear the last time we tapped the strategic reserve was 10 years ago. it was because of supply disruptions in libya. that move was coordinated with other countries around the world. joining us texas congresswoman beth van duyne, house transportation, infrastructure. phil flynn is back with us, with the price futures group. congresswoman, first, what is your take on tapping the spr? that is seen as political. what do you think? >> i think it is crazy to do

that. admit you made a mistake, that the admin -- administration made a mistake. closing keystone pipeline, increasing opec requests, by having part of their you know, trillion dollar spending spree include increases on the natural gas tax, stopping any kind of flow of gas, oil production and gas production on federally owned lands. admit that has caused inflation. increased gas prices. it has weakened our national security. and it has weakened the national security of countries around the world now because of instead of being reliant on us, for the first time we were energy independent, the u.s. is energy independent since 1957, they're now looking at places like russia, opec for their gas. admit you made a mistake. elizabeth: we hear you. >> fix it and move on. elizabeth: phil, what do you think? the white house appears to admit

the u.s. oil boom did keep gas prices low. energy secretary jennifer granholm potentially stopping u.s. to export crude oil to keep it here to lower u.s. gas prices. what us your take what is going on? >> i think they're desperate because they're looking at their poll numbers and you realize they own this energy crisis. this is now the joe biden energy crisis. what you're seeing around the world you know, in china, the lights going off, factories closing down. people not having enough energy to get through winter, the windmills stopping blowing in the uk, that is coming soon to a city near you. we're already seeing the price increases. so the energy secretary, jennifer granholm is looking for bandaids to try to cool off prices but both of the things she is recommending would only have a short-term impact on price. it doesn't solve the major issue. the major issue is, is that we put our foot on the neck of the

u.s. energy producers. we've discouraged production here in the united states and now we're begging other countries to fill that void. that is not a policy. that is not going to work. it will hurt the global economy and the u.s. economy. elizabeth: phil is raising some great points there, congresswoman. the oil pros are also warning, we may not be seeing gas prices going lower anytime soon. there are supply chain problems that fill has also reported on. there is also hyperinflation. look at this data point, governments worldwide, not just the u.s., governments worldwide spent $15 trillion on the pandemic. what congress spent in less than a year, it took the federal reserve five years to do with quantitative easing. so we're hyper inflating the markets with a lot of push of cash into the markets. what do you say about this? >> i would say it is costing the average american $175 more per month to put gas in their car, to put food on the stable. that is only getting worse as

you mentioned before it gets better. for all of those people who are holding out on this promise as the far left will decrease carbon emissions or global emissions you have to think about where we're getting our energy now. where we are getting our gas and fuel. we're getting it from countries who don't have nearly the restrictions for safety that we do. so it is doing the exact opposite thing. he is right. this is going to affect folks choices at the midterms. elizabeth: we hear. >> you nobody is being saved from this, nobody. we're paying more for everything. elizabeth: what else is going on too, we have to report on this before we go. there is another reason, phil, why gas prices could stay high, the congresswoman is pointing out, what those points too. what world leaders are now gearing up for a new united nations meeting about this happen in a month, new global treaties to go after oil and gas. watch this. >> basically about our need to work together to address the

climate crisis. one of the greatest national security crises the president sees a number of other world leaders agree on that front. certainly we all want to keep gasoline prices low but the threat of the crisis, climate crisis can't wait any longer. elizabeth: you see the double-talk there. certainly we want to keep the prices low. we get that. it is time for the white house to stop with the word salads. it it is time to talk with the irritating talk around for subjects at hand. little guy, ordinary americans having to deal with their nonsensical policies in the interim which hits them hard in the wallet. so phil, you talked about it just a moment ago. they want, joe manchin doesn't like this. he wants natural gas front and center in the spending bills. they're talking about $150 billion where we pay through the department of energy to utilities to ramp up solar, ramp up win power, right? in the interim.

medically, somebody getting an organ, will be immunocompromised. will be on immunosuppressants should have a vaccine. the vaccine may not even work, liz. they would be way off better with a vaccine that could protect them. that is not the same thing as being denied an organ as a result. that is not a risk. they could be tested. elizabeth: the patients could die of covid-19 that is why they're rejecting giving them organ transplants. the danger that other transplant centers could transition to this. doctor, we've singh the -- seen were why the person rejected vaccine is for religious principles. they don't like use of feet tall cells in the research. -- fetal cells. transplant centers prioritize patients based on their no alcohol or no drugs.

he directed the federal government to do more to protect school board members. the earlier this week attorney general issued a memo basically said the government will look at ways to protect members. he said there is sharp threats against education officials. concerned parties should call the fbi. the officials said that is ridiculous. the fbi should not be involved quashing, discourse well beneath violent act the. reported heated encounters between parents and involve speech clearly protected by the first amendment. no doubt in recent months we've seen some of these school board meetings get heated. parents are speaking up in greater numbers to voice outrage from mask imagine dates to what is going on with curriculum choices. the republicans say they are not threatening embracing the free speech. fox pressed white house wednesday. they said they're behind the attorney general and protecting people to insure the education officials can do their job

without getting hurt. but liz, this debate will not be ending anytime soon. elizabeth: mark meredith. great to see you. thanks for your great journalism. americans defending education, oscar. great to see you again. what are parents upset about? we're a g-rated show, what we saw about the porn in children school books. it is disgusting and outrageous. can you tell us what parents are upset about? >> absolutely, liz. for a year-and-a-half i've been going to my fairfax county public school school board meetings. they had ignored us. they muted us. shut us down. they hue mail eighted any which way they -- humiliated they can. two weeks ago a mother stood before the school board and showed evidence of porn, pedophilia in fairfax, virginia. what did they do? they took away her two minutes. they rushed off to a recess. but right now i am in front of

luther jackson middle school here in fairfax county. there are 100 parents outside with signs like this one. fbi versus moms? is that what really the biden administration wants to be doing. i suggest they back off and understand that parent are their friends and the friends of chirp are not the enemy. we are here to protect children. elizabeth: has anybody from the white house, administration, education department reached out to you, reached out to any of these parents to talk about their concerns? >> not a single person. that is what is unbelievable, liz. this mom stood before the school board and not a single school board member has contacted her. but guess what? we just sent a letter to the senate commerce committee and from parents defending education and we're asking for hearings because there is something very big that they're hiding. this is fox business and you know i love to follow the money. there is a big tech industry right now that is data mining children and i spoke before the

school board about a contract by panarama education, founded by the son-in-law of u.s. attorney general merrick garland. it all hits very close to home. elizabeth: apparently there is another leader, official at that panarama company, consultancy with multimillion-dollar contracts with school boards. he is talking about race alizeing school agenda for schoolchildren. even minority parent, black parents don't want this. why is the white house so okay with the, what school boards are doing to our children? why? >> because the teachers unions and unfortunately these political activists are part of the machine right now that is running our politics in this country. and there is a african-american man, harry jackson, outside right now a u.s. naval academy graduate. he rejects the idea of critical race theory because it has bigotry of low expectations. it has a racism of its own.

very worrisome to every citizen in our country. elizabeth: okay the seven state attorneys general, asra, ohio ag, says don't make threats. don't make threats against the school board. people get that. harrassment is already a crime in many states. unless there is a conspiracy across state lines it is local police issue. it is not the federal government's business anymore than a bar fight. ag garland should know better but the doj is not aiming that firepower at the border. not enough of that firepower at drug gangs. nothing about left-wing harassers stalking senator sinema. this is about, part of the process is what president biden said but the issue is, basically, does it justify ag garland putting the fbi, dhs, secret service in secret strategy sessions with law enforcement to go against parents? >> what you're saying is so spot on because really this is misallocation of our government
