10:05 am
as i walk into the snowdrifts, it is tough to tell how much snow we actually have because of this incredible wind that keeps coming in. thank you to the crew if we can pan over there and take a look at the atlantic ocean, the visibility is almost 0 at this point. we talked about blizzard conditions, quarter-mile or less, we have a lot less than that right now. we just drove around to look at some of the sea ships, the lobsters ships in the area that are tied up in the harbor, they are doing well thankfully, we still have power in gloucester massachusetts which is 30 miles to the northeast of boston, but this storm is continuing to strengthen here as we move in to the late morning. this is going to go one into the
10:06 am
night. it'll be potentially historic, the bobble genesis as you been reporting with the pressure dropping it is incredible scene and when the wind gust coming is like somebody takes a cooking pan and bangs the in-your-face. an unbelievable feeling. anyone who is watching this, don't go out watching from inside of your home or wherever you may be. perhaps on the phone, or a tablet. this is a scene like no other, this area has not seen a blizzard since 2018 and many people are comparing this to maybe 1978 the historic scene that caused all of the snow in wind damage here on new england's coast. amazing we will continue to report and try to stay as sheltered as possible. i am feeling okay, the wind, the lower i get the less wind damage i take on the face.
10:07 am
>> robert ray you're pretty tall in your almost waist deep, that drift is two or 3 feet at least. >> absolutely, yes we are seeing dressed like that. we have hours of this to go. it's tough to tell how many inches have fallen because of the wind storms or winds that are coming in. we are well into tropical storm will be compared to a hurricane. like i said on the island nearly 70 mile-per-hour winds, the remember 74 miles per hour is a category one hurricane, this is a doozy. >> robert ray, thank you so much for bringing us the images, stay safe and great advice. everyone else watch from where you are and we will bring the story. amy: were gonna move to waterford connecticut where temperatures are in the low 20s but the winds gusting to 45 miles per hour the wind

chills down to single digits, this shot waterford connecticut 0 visibility off the water, it's about two hours from new york city, blizzard warning in effect until 7:00 p.m. eastern time with a white out conditions are likely at times, forecasting 15 inches of snow winds could gust as high as 60 miles per hour in the most intense part of the storm but the freezing cold during and after the storm looking at the winds. we see sustained winds, 15 - 35 miles an hour, we suggest happening 40 miles an hour in taking new bedford, gust of 33 miles per hour and martha's vineyard up to 50 mile-per-hour winds and there have been reports of 60 mile-per-hour wind for nantucket. really intense win, what happens with the low pressure system is being pushed up against another weather maker, high pressure

system, and puts the squeeze on the storm and that intensifies the winds. that is what is happening at the shoreline it is taken of the power, massachusetts up to 80000, 81000 right now with power out. we are climbing, more and more power outages happily by the hour. these winds can take down the lines very easily. also low visibility which is a component of the blizzard condition, the big winds that blow the snow around making it difficult to see. beverly right now 35 mile-per-hour winds, could be up to 65 miles per hour, boston a quarter-mile of visibility norwood same, and linda quarter-mile visibility, the brighter white in the band you could see the blue as is studies no, the brighter white is heavier racing 2 inches per hour snowfall right now. nantucket 60 - 70 mile-per-hour winds beginning at the 10:00 o'clock hour watch the forecast as we go to 2:00 o'clock looking at the

potential 70 per mile hour winds, right at 8:00 o'clock this is an enormous amount of time to see a persistent northeast when pounding the shore and ripping away the sand and bringing the waist height potentially 10 - 15 feet high this will be a long afternoon for cape cod extending all the way to new england to portland maine. all right there is the wind forecast no visibility is down, let's get to jersey shore, snow has been how did this area and a lot of towns under the blizzard warning and bracing for more snow. it has not slowed down much. we bring in fox whether ian oliver because he's been there all morning long. you have been out there for hours, i don't know how you can still feel your face. your knee deep and adrift, that is brutal. >> i just saw a report from
10:11 am
national weather service they are up over a foot in monmouth county, we were talking about that 12.5 inches of snow measured here, much higher in the drift, as we last spoke, the wind has been as intense as ever. the temperature is in the mid-20s but it feels like temperature three, dale earnhardt, thankfully i just got a report in at the state of new jersey, power outages less than 1000 customers without power right now, a low number thankfully folks can stay warm as these temperatures are in the dangerous territory. that is why the snow is moving sideways it is wind driven, blizzard condition that we've been talking about, heavy snow. i want to show you the atlantic to my left, we're at the beach this is the boardwalk and that the atlantic ocean. the water is that to a 50 feet from me. but it is very difficult to see
10:12 am
it. that is because visibility is so low, the combination of the heavy snow coupled with the winds. we have seen big waves hitting the breakwaters. but the visibility over the last several hours very poor and as bad as it's ever been right now. i've been on the fox whether app and seeing the heavier bands of snow booby through. we are at 1 foot now at the jersey shore and we still have a ways to go. within the blizzard warning the first in four years we should mention was 10 - 18 inches blowing through the range of snow looks like were heading for the higher end in some of these areas along the immediate coastline were revealing the strongest impact of this nor'easter. amy: i think you are really on track because the snowfall ratio have been 18 - 1 and as you know the cold air produces a fine snow, that is what you're going to look for. >> you cannot even make a

10:14 am
at times, let's take a look at boston throughout the rest of today still see the heavier bands of snow even into the 11:00 o'clock hour, making travel near impossible in this area and throughout most of new england area. that continues through the afternoon by early evening we are seeing heavier bands of snow around boston south of brockton and then we see things wind down as we headed to the 11:00 o'clock hour. this is an all-day prolonged event before we see things wrap up and dry out in boston in the boston area. by the overnight areas snoqualmie downing coming to an end, that does not mean the storm is ending we are dealing with high wind gusts and leftover snow on the ground, 12 - 18 inches expected a boston 12 and 18 and brockton and that was an area that was looking at maybe isolated higher totals. we have to watch that very
10:15 am
closely providence rhode island around 18 as well, well over a foot many of these areas. here's the timeline so we can break it down what to expect over the next couple of hours in boston. 3:00 o'clock hour we have the heavy snow continuing, that will be followed up with gust as high as 50 miles per hour well into the 4 - 5:00 o'clock hour. the combination of both will cause low visibility in that area throughout most of today. taking it back to new york where we are at the headquarters. snow continuing through the 11:00 o'clock hour into the noon hour we still have the snow bands around the city and that will continue to five or 6:00 o'clock before the back edge of the storm pulls away off to the north and east and we will dry out as we headed to tonight. as we get into tonight we will have gusty winds for the city winds will be as high in the new england but high enough with the snow on the ground to cause some low visibility. here's a look at the totals to
