could take hits if this goes to war, senator, right? >> you're right. when you look at this people will say sometimes why does ukraine matter? it matters because putin is trying to put the band back together. he wants the old soviet union back. it matters, what he is trying to do, work with china, corner the energy markets, push us out, and of course every decision that joe biden has made on energy is something that would help russia, whether it is nord stream 2, the okay there or shutting down keystone. so, liz, what we have to look at, they see weakness in biden. they see him as rudderless. so what are they doing? they will push the envelope until they get stopped. and it is like putin has a plan and biden doesn't have a plan. he has got a reaction here or there, but nothing that is

unpleasant words. i kind of wear it as a badge of honor. the chinese communist party is up to know good. they are intent on global dominance. they want to remove the united states as a global superpower. they're trying to recast their image in the olympics. you've got u.s. entities like nbc and other companies that are going to be olympic corporate sponsors, that are helping them in this endeavor. it is unseemly. elizabeth: you know fbi director christopher ray said china is a top threat, that when he first stepped into the job, the sheer magnitude of chinese spying to steal u.s. technology blew him away. it is like surveillance nightmare of east germany combined with the high-tech of silicon valley. he has all of that going on and then you have new reports about irs grand jury subpoenas to get after what is going on with hunter biden, his uncle james biden and his associates and his

off-balance sheet shell companies, taking in cash and money, cash flows out of business dealings with china. so this is an issue for national security as well. your thoughts on that? >> yes. you're exactly right. you have to realize that whether it is xi xinping or vladmir putin, they're thugs and they want to displace us and they are up to no good. and of course they are trying to find people that they can play ball with. hunter biden has been willing to play ball with them and it appears from what we know about the 2019 grand jury subpoenas that were sent to bank of china and to jpmorgan, that it also includes biden incorporated and james biden. we also are aware of the tax evasion charges on 2018, regarding hunter biden. these are investigations that are continuing to this day. we need a special counsel to get to the bottom of this.

want him to call out criminals and also progressive district attorneys and prosecutors who have chosen to downgrade certain crimes and not prosecute others. law enforcement groups saying it is costing lives. >> it is not just in new york, it's in cities across this country. when we have violent offenders that are taken off the street only to be put back on the street for them to continue, to continue their violent actions, well that is a failed experiment that is causing people their lives and making our communities less safe. reporter: with homicide rates breaking records in 16 major cities last year morale among law enforcement is all-time low. 73 officers were killed in the line of duty in 2021 that is the most since 1995, with the exception of 2001 after 9/11. an abc poll this week showed 64% of americans disapprove the president's handling of crime. the white house refused to weigh in on the policies of these progressive d.a.s but touted president biden's funding proposals for cops.

can do a lot. one of the first things the president can do is introduce the assistance of the attorney general merrick garland in providing a level of oversight in connection with these d.a.s are not willing to uphold the rule of law. we look at manhattan for example, we have alvin bragg, a highly progressive district attorney is not will tock prosecute low level offenses. the same thing happening in places like philadelphia, san francisco, los angeles, chicago. the president can use the attorney general in a position that promotes public safety. however, i don't think that is what is going to occur. i think the meeting we'll have at one police plaza in connection with the president, the governor, the mayor of the city of new york is merely window-dressing. it is a sham and we need something to happen and we need it to happen now. president biden has been in office over a year. it's behind you to blame the last person. you bought this. this is yours. therefore we expect and we

demand public safety as citizens of the united states. elizabeth: yeah, the president and his team they have not called out weak on crime prosecutors who are democrats in the cities you cited, they have not done it. he will likely not do it tomorrow. we had a shocking day of crime yesterday. two law enforcement officers shot and killed in bridgewater college, in virginia. much more violence yesterday. we have this, the white house is touting that the president is increasing funding for cops more than the trump administration but not addressing the issue that they have weakened the border. drugs and crime are pouring across the border into u.s. cities. we have this story. the fbi arrested a 42-year-old mom from kansas, allison fluke ekron, isis battalion commander in syria. the criminal affidavit witnesses in syria said she gave isis commander al-baghdadi a plan to cross the u.s. southern border from mexico, and quote, drop off

an explosive packed backpack at an unnamed u.s. college campus to kill students. she told the witness, don't worry about the logistics. i know how to get into the u.s. from mexico. your reaction to this? >> when we look at the epic failure of border safety in connection with how we should fortify our southern border this is clear reflection on the failed policies of the biden administration. crime is reaching an all-time high. the meteoric rise is not being interdicted by a plausible crime control strategy from the federal post. president biden many instances touts successes as commander-in-chief as that person responsible for allowing federal funding to the municipalities in the southern border however when you look at the quantitative statistics it is clear there is uptick in crime as opposed to a precipitous drop as he touts in his briefings constantly.

a 9/11 style commission to be brought together to study this stuff from day one until the botched exit. we know this. there was no plan for the withdrawal. in the 11th hour as kabul was falling, only at that point did the administration really identify countries that could be used to transit evacuees. we also know they didn't wait until the very last minute, again, kabul falling, to locate, local afghans who helped our country for a number of years and they did not contact those individuals about whether they wanted to come to the united states or some other country to be evacuated. so basically they're is no plan at all. so this is a failure of leadership. this is a case of bureaucratic inertia and the most damning thing, i will tell you, liz, we've seen zero members of state department, high-ranking defense officials or white house staffers who have been held accountable on the back end of this. we had 13 united states marines who gave their lives to make sure that evacuation went as well as it could.

elizabeth: we hear you. it is in line with what "the washington post" reported in august of last year, that a decade ago, then senator biden argued the u.s. did not have an obligation to afghanistan, quote, we did it in vietnam. nixon and kissinger got away with it. then senator biden in 1975 said about vietnam, quote, i'm sick of hearing about our moral obligation there. is this still the same stance we had on afghanistan today? >> no, look, we do have a moral obligation. i think -- elizabeth: talking about the president's position toward afghanistan now, did it change? it sounds like it is the same position he had from the past? >> yeah. well, that's the wrong position. the position should be pottery barn's rules, if you break it you own it. in this case we have been in that country for a long period of time and we were, we created the misup depression that somehow we had rebuilt the military. so we own that withdrawal.
