stocks tumbling today, led by tick tech and growth stocks. nation flared hotter than expected, 40-year high to 7 1/2%. wall street pricing in at least seven federal reserve rate increases to stop inflation. now the fed funds futures market indicating a half-point hike in march. fed officials talking even a full point hike. edward lawrence has more in washington. edward. reporter: so, liz, think about this 7.5% inflation year-over-year, 40-year high. you reverse those numbers and that is the wage increases that we have seen over the past 12 months. so what this means is that the stuff we are buying is significantly outpacing the wage gains. plus the president just wants to focus on one side of that the equation. president biden: we made a lot of progress on the economy. last year more jobs were created than any year in american history. unemployment dropped more than any year in american history. reporter: when you look at items

♪. elizabeth: joining us now fox news contributor dr. marty makary. doctor, okay, your reaction to now a dozen governors dropping or moving to drop mask mandates? 11 are blue state democrats, five face re-election. just a few weeks ago we need mask mandates. this is about following the science. so is politics killing the pandemic? >> they have got clearly polling putting them in touch with what voters are seeing. they're sick of it. they're sick of asymptomatic testing on mask level. passports, it is not just the masks. by the way science not changed on masks. masks always had a pour size of 20 to 100 microns.

two year saga. what i would tell you is that we've had an infection fatality rate similar to other countries in the world adjusted for the fact that we have more obesity, more chronic disease than other countries in the world. aside from some island countries which were able to protect their border by the nature of the fact they were islands, this is a pandemic affected everyone equally. we should evaluate the biggest public health intervention in world history which is the lockdowns. can already see there is not much interest among half the political spectrum trying to understand things like the johns hopkins study that looked at that. elizabeth: and found that they didn't work, right? >> that is exactly right. it was very elegant study. mathematically sophisticated. by the way it pulled together all existing literature, all 24 other studies. it did a meta analysis. that should be of interest to anybody -- elizabeth: that is a landmark study.

moscow as well. elizabeth: body bags? what does that mean? >> well, there again they have no understanding of what is going on. they have around 1 11 -- 170,000 troops and they have 7200 americans in harm's way in that general vicinity. i don't think any american should lose their life of the frozen tundra of the ukraine. they are again are, have no real understanding of what is going on. you know, thumping their chest, all this, they're warning them, basically telling them if they cross this line we should have already been, been doing things like, putting tariffs and things on them earlier on. you know their oligarchy, billionaire oligarchy, only good friend in europe one of our best friend, england. they are starting to put the squeeze on them doing that doing very same things.
