putin has begun to turn up the heat even more indiscriminate bombing, civilians slaughtered and reports russians have begun using thermo barrack vacuum bomb. more on that later in the show but ukrainians in the president are still very defiant and begging for more help from the u.s., eu and nato. >> as far as no-fly zone, it's helped a lot. this is not about dragging nato countries into work. everyone has long been dragged into war and not by ukraine but russia. kennedy: yeah because they are a bunch of jerks but no-fly zone, not a great idea. i will august factor into tonight speech? the president obviously is mindful the a macro public doesn't have an appetite to drag into another faraway conflict especially after the humiliating afghanistan exit but the stakes are arguably higher this time.

they invite anchors who cover the state of the union to meet with president, republicans, democrats, back to when i took over in 2009, every year they do this, talk about off record some of a substance in the speech but also give a sense of what they are thinking. the speech will lead with ukraine promote the world focus. you mentioned the want to keep the u.s. out, that's this president clear want and need to make this clear, it's not something the u.s. will get involved in to avoid world war iii. that said, there's a lot of talk about unity with nato countries and speaking with one voice on sanctions. as you know, the dangers obviously putin and unpredictable he is and what happens if he goes into a nato country or cyber, what we are compelled to do. kennedy: the president and vice president and a lot of people within the administration have

been talking about article five, obviously prematurely because ukraine is not a nato country so that not activated at this time but putin is already talking about nuclear conflict. how does the president count down the rhetoric and what did he say to you and the reporters about the possibility of a nuclear conflict? >> he said publicly the other day americans shouldn't worry and i think there's going to be an element to that in the speech tonight. he believes putin essentially according to his senior officials inside the white house said he is using this to kind of make mistakes clear the u.s. should not be getting an in any way, shape or form so that's why they put the forces on higher alert. i think this speech is really going to say we support ukraine but we are not fighting their

battle and you nato countries together according to speak to sanction putin until he backs down. the problem is, nobody in the intelligence community's believe putin is backing down. kennedy: i didn't think you would and bait, i really didn't and a lot of people say he's not going to do that, he's not going to invade, it's not his best interest but the sanctions gripping the economy, dependent on oil -- we will talk about that later in the show there's so much chaos here and at home, how are people in the administration talking about using this to distract from the other political issues dragging down the president's poll numbers? >> i don't think they are using it to distract. i will say talk about inflation may infuse the ukraine situation. ukraine was high prior to russia going into ukraine so gas prices

going up, they were already high and they are cordial higher reaching a seven year high today, almost $107 a barrel. that will affect people at the pump and make people upset. this president will try to talk about inflation i think tonight in a way you take other things off the balance sheet, i don't know if he has the votes in congress to do some of the things he wants to. usually the state of the union address is are shopping lists but if you have a congress not on your side, that list is pretty short. kennedy: there's a lot of other stuff they have to take off including inflation what you talked about, crime promote the pandemic, weary americans -- immigration, absolutely. many fronts where americans are fighting a domestic war and obviously want answers. in terms of vladimir putin, people often say the president playing checkers and putin explain chest, i think the

president is playing corn hole and putin is playing -- they are not even at the same picnic right now. when the u.s. president ever figure out vladimir putin? >> great question, i don't think they've figured him up until now. there's a lot of unpredictable moves he's made recently and u.s. intelligence officials are say, is he okay? mentally, stability wise. the russian military has underperformed in the ukrainian defense forces over performed and whether that continues or not, ukrainians have enough time to hold off until the squeeze hit putin from home, that's the equation that no one knows. kennedy: no one knows and there are so many variables. thank goodness we have you, we will be watching your coverage tonight. >> see you. kennedy: earlier today on fox, jen psaki confirmed the

we were in colorado not long ago on a fantastic panel about media hypocrisy, you did a great job and good to have you back tonight. jason, you are worried the president has shown weakness not only in exiting afghanistan but here with ukraine. i don't know if i worry about the president weakness as much as the president trying to flex his strength getting us into a nuclear war, what are your thoughts? >> i agree with you, we do not want this to escalate to world war iii, that's the last thing we need right now but i think it's really joe biden's weakness stunning incompetence and actually his energy policies that helped contribute to the current crisis in ukraine. when you look at the first thing he did as president -- one about that first things he did in january of his presidency, he suspended keystone pipeline and then suspended all leases on

drilling and fracking on federal land and then put in place executive orders that effectively reversed all of terms energy policies and then return us to the climate parent support because he's listening to people like greta blumberg and climate radicals instead of making us regain energy independence which is what we need to do right now because as a result of all that he did, we are importing 75000 barrels of russian oil a day, $10 million of oil from russia, effectively funding putin's war in ukraine. what we need to do is become energy independent, stop depending on farmland and countries for our oil and we need to become independent power on energy. if we do that in putin's oil costarred from we will neutralize.

if oil goes up, he will continue to strike. kennedy: i'm going to talk with jonathan about the economic repercussion and energy, a huge part of that but the problem is, when we placate the climate activists to want to punish americans and really enter into an era where we deprive ourselves of basic liberties instead of energy independence, which we have to supernova in terms of energy and what i mean is pretty soon and near future, our dependence on fossil fuel will die and that will be a good thing for we are not there yet so until we are, we have to gain as much energy as we can from the resources without which are plentiful but cutting them off from ourselves until we've reached energy independence that doesn't rely on fossil fuel which is contrary to logic.

>> total agreement, there has to be a dual track when it comes to energy production in this country. i fully support the aims of combating climate change and we are seeing massive amounts of electric vehicles for example in that whole industry is taking off domestically here in the united states, gm plants, for plans convert to producing electric vehicles, that's celebrate and the future of this country and world but at the same time we have a lot of americans who still drive gas powered cars and we didn't . kennedy: and the electric grid. >> we do so again, it's a dual track where we can't just cut off our nose despite our face, we have to tackle both in terms of energy production, gas, rising costs as well as securing our future when it comes to the environment. kennedy: hannah, i guess i'm sick of wars oil.

schools not being open. they care about covid policies. these are the things democrats don't have an answer for because the biden administration failed at addressing all of them are not surprised they're trying to use this as a distraction and not surprised industrial complex are running for another war but the american people finally have woken up and don't want to keep doing this spend resources over there always our lives over there and i think they will ultimately win out because we've seen happens when we try to go in and just leave blowback and further conflict which would be the case here if we were to go in. kennedy: but there are seat people who almost delight in this, it's a chance for the president to reset. no, a war is a chance to kill innocent civilians who are what's? what did they get out of it and what do we get out of it? nothing but certain death. libertarians have shown over and over prosperity, innovation, those are the keys to making the

doing, are they using this awful technology and one of the repercussions? >> the first part of your question, weary of american politicians who take we must report ukraine and sent weapons but then we shouldn't send troops. what you know what they really mean is comfortable sending troops and that is part of the problem, these are weapons that can be used against our guys and gals but these are specifically as most weapons are, reserved for a specific situation where civilians are not around but on the battlefield, bunker buster secondly drop and penetrate the ground and essentially they put fuel into the air that utilizes the oxygen so it turns everything that's air in a bunker or kyiv or building into fire so it will incinerate your body and turn the air in your lungs on fire, gruesome but using strategic war situations,

not civilian settings or cities, not hospitals on one block daycare centers on the other and that is what makes this a war crime. kennedy: do we know -- do they know russia used it? so is this speculation? >> exactly, propaganda on both sides and that is problem, i've had intelligence come to me from civilians on their way over, did they know about pictures of the weapons brought into ukraine? i don't have anything to say about the weapons being used, fair comment. we have a bunch, they can be dropped from planes in a big bomb, and rbg or similar to it -- they are valuable this type of technology, not overly collocated but it's gruesome and effective. the other thing we heard today, a cluster bomb the people understand what that is from a payload, it looks like a big

the market driving the price up, that will make gas more expensive for americans how else will it affect it if banks are affected? is not things like interest rates and the ability to get a loan from your local bank? >> russia has oil but it is about the only thing they have. anyone smart with any sense in the head less russia but they've got to tell it to someone. they won't sell it on the world market as they have in the past but india. they need the cash, they don't have the ability not to sell it said they need the cash. what's so frustrating is united states also has oil. we don't have is the moral conviction to use it if the president perhaps says something about galatian on pumping more oil, a wild card if you will that he has in his hope would not be so effective in terms of the oil pritikin help short-term, i don't think it helps him long-term.

one of the biggest problems with the supply chain and one reason we have ports not operating 24/7 and we've not been able to get the labor ports we need so as a whole, i don't think he has a plan whatsoever. we also seek antitrust which is merely the government picking winners and losers in a won't bring prices down or promote competition, it's just more cronyism from the government i'm tired of these people who continue to perpetrate these things against the american people. as a whole, citizens are wise enough to know biden's agenda has not benefited them as far and all he's going to do continue to entrench himself and dig heels and push for things like build back better and massive spending and protecting special interest as a whole, it will continue to hurt us and i don't have a lot of hope. kennedy: the spending will really hurt us, inflation is not going to go away, inflation is

exacerbating that and i don't think the president is going to use the word build back better, it will be a reminder of the failures in congress and the fact that he's not even trying to work with republicans on legislation. do you think he will say build back better? >> i think he's going to touch on the aspects, he may mention it in his speech but in conversations i've had folks in the previous of the speech i've seen, he will talk about inflation and rising costs americans are facing but also he thinks he can get done with republicans as part of this so-called unity agenda, tackling the opioid crisis. he would like talked about mental health crisis facing our children, providing resources for schools. kennedy: 200 billing dollars in schools, they are not spending it right but screw them. they have the resources. if they are blowing the money, they don't deserve it.
