♪♪ kennedy: the next few days could be the bloodiest so far, russian military ramping up as resistance continues to embarrass the russian military and vladimir putin who apparently has the dumbest name ever according to my 16-year-old and the government is once again threatening nuclear war. u.s. officials say they've lost more than 4150 cruise missiles in the uk, a bunch of jerks, a few hours ago one landed next to the central train station in case. we are told it had been shot

down but the fact that they are shooting them over pacific capital is not a good sign. today secretary of state antony blinken that this is par for the course. >> we have seen in the past one of russia's metrics of war is to be absolutely brutal trying to get the citizenry of the given country and that includes at the very least indiscriminate targeting and potentially deliberate targeting as well. we are looking closely at what's happening in ukraine right now including what's happening to civilians. kennedy: you realize he's had almost nothing there is sort of the guy in charge. the problem for putin, ukrainians are tougher than a 2-dollar steak. they are claiming to have killed 6000 russian soldiers in less than a week, more than the

number of americans who died from 18 years of fighting in afghanistan and we are told they've destroyed hundreds of tanks and other pieces of russian equipment on top of that large numbers of russian soldiers surrendered or captured because they are babies, like 18 years old then what am i doing here? back in moscow, putin is not taking the news very well, serious with the invasion which makes claim of the threats of world war iii but pentagon spokesperson john kirby says the united states will not get dragged into adrenaline. >> my effort to demonstrate we have no intention in engaging in any actions that could be misunderstood or misconstrued. secretary of defense directed our minuteman three intercontinental ballistic test launch scheduled for this to postponed. we did not take this decision lightly but to demonstrate we are a responsible nuclear power.

kennedy: on top of that, growing humanitarian crisis, one doing ukrainians reportedly fled the country and it's getting harder to get supplies in, that means food and medical supplies start running shorts very soon so what does it look like on the ground? joining me live from lviv ukraine, fox news reporter, lucas tomlinson. what are you seeing? >> not just medical supplies but missiles as well. moments ago the un, the number of people who fled the country since the start of the invasion topped 1 million. earlier ukraine's president talked about how they've unleashed on the country. >> they have orders to erase our history our country and all of us. >> for the first time since the work began, russia released figures, 190 soldiers killed much less than what you said in

1500 wounded. u.s. intelligence think that number could be four times higher, around 2000. british intelligence says five ukrainian cities are surrounded, russian forces claim today the captured strategic ports with over 300,000 people u.s. officials dispute that claim. russian ukrainian forces battle out in car keys, the country's second largest city in the northeast, a target for some of russia's 450 missiles fired into the country. ukraine's top diplomat urging the west to send more weapons not just javelins and stingers once bombed. the air force quote now, assigned just do not have enough drop on the russian conflict. sirens sounded moments before joining on air, a sign of what's going on here, no sign of explosion or russian jets overhead, people are afraid and inside and very scared.

kennedy: who else is supplying weapons to the ukrainian military other than the u.s.? >> most of the european allies, nato allies and sweden offered 5000 tank missiles, finland as well -- a lot of countries. kennedy: and finland -- scandinavians stepping up and we understand russian fighter jets -- >> they are not nato nations. kennedy: interesting. but sweden was pierced by russian fighter jets in their airspace and they responded by scrambling their own, sort of the ikea version of top gun, it's crazy. his russia looking to expand throughout the entire neighborhood? >> lucky they didn't get shot down, many countries were considered the act of war if anybody crossed to u.s. airspace, that aircraft would be shot down. a lot of times in china, bear with me for a second from a time when people say chinese jets are

breaching taiwanese airspace, they are not. they are going into an engagement zone but not the airspace but that news from sweden was concerning. kennedy: it's very interesting, who knows if it's misdirection, overreach or something even more on it. thank god you are there to keep tabs on all of it. thanks. okay, bye. president biden last night divided by 12 minutes of his entire speech during the state of the unit two russian invasion. he wasted no time telling us how he feels about putin. >> russia's vladimir putin shook the foundations of the free world thinking he could make it bend to his menacing ways but he badly miscalculated. when dictators do not pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos. putin's latest attack on ukraine was premeditated and totally unprovoked.

what's happening in ukraine and did he settle the fuse of americans who are very worried about the thought of a nuclear conflict with russia? >> festival, thank you -- in my opening. i think 12 minutes was sufficient, obviously the number one issue in the world right now, he led with a, there was no other choice than to plead with that, overall he did a pretty good job in that. i could have used more time which i meet any time at all, for seconds, seven seconds on afghanistan from nothing to say about that but i think generally he stayed sort of in the lane of projecting some strength and just trying to show solidarity among the american people and congress to ukraine knowing putin was watching and the ukrainians were watching, he wanted to boost their morale and

continue to rally the world, i think europe actually led in a lot of ways on this but i have a lot of criticism from last night, the russia ukraine passage was not near the top of criticism list for me. kennedy: yes, we were told that the speech had been ripped up, it was being refashioned in order to fit the crisis facing the president, country and the world right now, that didn't really happen but there were other omniscient in the speech and far left not too pleased that he didn't talk about free college or student loan debt forgiveness. >> maybe they talk about it because it's not happening. obviously build back better is either on the back range of the stove or fallen off the stove so that's not happening, that's not the urgent matter. if that speech is remembered historically now, it will be remembered as the speech that the president gave in the midst of what could be a land war in

europe, the start of world war iii potentially what's a threat of the use of nuclear weapons so that is the headline on that and i think in that regard, he did very well, speaking very clearly to say we were ready, we understand this is unprovoked action that putin is acting in an aggressive way he's trying to seize territory and we are not going to stand for and we will get tougher in terms of sanctions. for me, i wanted to see that he was strong and confident and developed and delivered and uplifting confident message to us, the american people because gas prices may go up, and impact on the economy as sanctions clampdown on russia and he's got to make it clear we are determined to be friends to ukraine. kennedy: all of that would have been i think well received if

people hadn't already had their face shaking his administration before the russian invasion of ukraine but people were already questioning his confidence and the direction the country is going in, few americans, 30% of them think the country is going in the right direction. does the president saying russia miscalculated, does not distract people from the other problems they are facing? >> well, he certainly had to talk about it, if this is the start of world war iii can we don't have to worry about how the speech will be remembered because it won't be were numbered at all and that something we should keep in mind, the biggest priority in the history of humanity is to avoid nuclear war between the u.s. and russia. and he's right to condemn vladimir putin, it's horrific and inexcusable that he launched the war but the fact that he says it's unprovoked and echoing that sentiment, that is not

true. it's not true that this was unprovoked in our smartest minds even within the national security apparatus like heroic colonel douglas mcgregor have been warning about this for decades now. if you cite a coup in 2014 with american fingerprints all over it in ukraine is not provoking someone, if you think sending weapons to ukraine is not provoking -- if russia was sending weapons to cuba like they once did, we thought that was provocative. just think about the -- >> and the corporate press. >> i'm sorry? >> those were offensive weapons aiming at us, these are defensive weapons with an invasion that did happen, the right analogy. >> that's not exactly correct but regardless, think about this, and i bet you will agree with me because you been calling out, big about the rhetoric in the corporate press the last five years where they've accused

than putin or biden or anyone of these dinosaurs sitting behind a desk. kennedy: and people who have only consumed war through cable networks like this one, they don't understand how people consume information on social media because believe it or not, kids do talk about this stuff, foreign affairs and what's happening in the world and they get a lot of their information on tik tok and that is where people are sharing videos and the molotov cocktail recipes and that's where you see things, it is important distinction and the sharing element is very different and interaction watching something in real time, we been doing that for a couple of decades but it is that people are emotionally galvanized and also giving information they can used to thwart the enemy with the tools they've got at their disposal, almost like mckever war, rudimentary items in order

to face down in apartment that supposed to be one of the strongest on the planet and you've got people like a little old lady i love, she told the russian soldiers, sunflowers will grow when you die. so they do have lovely large playbooks in ukraine. >> yeah and i think they know there's a propaganda aspect to this. this is the problem with not having a trustworthy corporate media, we don't really know what to believe when we hear stories about ukrainian fighter jet taking them down and everyone just transit on twitter before anyone stops to confirm it. there obviously soldiers that snake island, i'm not saying they were not being used or that is propaganda but it's just an urban myth at this time, it doesn't spend town to town by newspaper in poland, it spreads

instantly around the world on social media platforms and makes it hard to discern for the information comes from and how we should use it but more and partly, zelenskyy is a new breed of president where he's on the ground showing by his cell phone, not standing behind the desk in a bunker hiding justin trudeau, he's out in the streets and showing people what's happening. kennedy: what you think at the better contrast is, zelenskyy versus biden or zelenskyy forces trudeau? >> i don't know, i know trump was asked, would you stay and fight for your country so i don't really know, i think it's just an age, zelenskyy is a big tough guy mid 40s. kennedy: i think is a little tough guy. >> well yeah, he is short but probably the toughest short guy on the planet to be honest. kennedy: wow, well said.

i am struck when you play the clip from biden, his discussion of inflation last night seems so detached from the reality most people are experiencing, he did acknowledge it happening but his solution was for the government to spend a lot more money on the programs already defeated in congress. i think that was not really resonate with a lot of people and by contrast the governor of iowa, kim reynolds spoke personally about inflation, i think much more directly and i think if that is the battle of messaging on this issue that's going to play out the next eight months, i think a red november is likely. kennedy: i don't think this administration had to grasp on inflation, i think they are disconnected with the central bank, i don't have a problem with that but i don't think they understand how dire the situation is when you're pumping so much money into the economy through the federal reserve but also taking money from americans and spending their money with

massive legislative multitrillion dollar pieces of legislation by could do much more long-term economic harm, i think the president and vice president betrayed their ignorance on this and i don't trust either of them. >> i disagree. i love it, people on the right all of a sudden are concerned about deficit and spending but wasn't the case during the trump administration with big tax cuts that drove up the deficit, it's a different kind of spending, this spending the pandemic was out people suffering economically because of the lockdown or supply chain issues, we spent some money there, no question that increased the deficit. all of this does contribute i think in part two inflation but the bigger problem is increased demand right now and in a

complementary way, we haven't increased the supply of goods and services that went down during the pandemic. what biden is saying is we can do a better job in terms of lowering the cost of goods and services and produce to the america people . kennedy: so create more demand. >> in the united states and -- >> can i just think -- >> i think it's logical, it's an outrage. to me, if anything the president of the united states doesn't have that much control over the economy and this guy is trying, that's not a bad thing. kennedy: i want dave to chime in because obviously tax cuts do spur economic growth, we've seen that through any administration who had been arts to cut taxes including john f. kennedy and ronald reagan, we saw that before the pandemic with trump

tax cuts but you also need to cut spending and in my wrong saying you need to and the feds? >> no, of course you are completely right but there's so much like economic illiterate information going on so if you argue you want to buy america -- i have no problem people voluntarily deciding to but that's not a control for inflation, that almost certainly will lead to higher prices. number two, inflation is not the cpi, a number government gets away with. inflation is an increase in the supply of money and credit, more money chasing after the same amount of goods, more money in the economy. cpi doesn't count things like housing, barely counts energy, inflation is far worse than the cpi measurement. the truth is what you talk about the idea of the federal reserve raising rates to rain and inflation, it's an illusion. this is the worst inflation we had on record since the 70s

even according to cpi, worst since the 70s or something like that. they had to raise interest rates to 20%, 20% under this to rain and inflation. right now we are discussing the possibility of a rate increase of .25% of the quarter of a.when the current fund rate is at zero, the target is between zero and a quarter. our economy is addicted to artificially low interest rates and nobody even thinks we can raise it by one or two because they know it would crash the entire thing. no way to rain and inflation, it's here to stay and one 100% default of the federal reserve and he's right it's both parties on board, not something . kennedy: that is absolutely true. and no one will cut spending along with taxes and it's a crime against peter generations. man panel, thank you for being here, a great conversation by all. thank you.
