coping with this inflation. i think it has been extremely politicized. i'm very dis.ed, i guess i would say in in jay powell he did not more aggressively move on this. we can talk about labor shortages. the fact that the fed is still behind mortgage-backed securities and driving up home prices and rents? i think they have been really on the wrong foot. we're all going to be paying for it. elizabeth: general, to liz's point, we see the topspin and rebranding coming out of the white house. general, i would like you to listen what happened with the white house press secretary today. watch this. reporter: president's statement blames the putin price hike. are you guys just going to start blaming put tin for everything until the midterms? >> we sieve the price of gas go up 75 cents since president putin lined up troops on the border of ukraine. reporter: and last month the statement didn't mention the putin price hike.

it mentioned inflation because of the pandemic. why is that? >> well, peter, last year, last two years there was a global pandemic. obviously global events impact the economy, the global economy as well as global inflation. and price hikes as a result that have escalated over the course of time of president putin's further invasion invasion of the impact global oil markets are ving an impact. elizabeth: general what is your reaction? >> i guess my first reaction, candidly, liz, you don't have a good answer, a solution, obfuscate or redistrict with something else. she is so wrong. i grew up in the oil business. i was in college i worked for my dad's firm which was an oil drilling firm in california. i was a roughneck a field hand. i saw the oil drilling and oil production business first-hand. everything she has said about it is dead wrong. i'm just stunned that nobody is really called her out on it.

mommy's backs. they were trying to get out for food and water and they are firing at them. they were firing guns at them. for three times. so how could the world think that there is a diplomatic solution to that? who can make him keep his word if right now the world is watching this and saying, well, maybe he will change. no, he will not change. this is a massive threat to the whole world, what he is doing right now to ukraine. this will not change. he only understands one word, the force. this is why we're fighting. we do need help. we do need support because he will not be stopping at ukraine. he was very adamant about that. elizabeth: reports coming in he also has bombed 18 hospitals and medical facilities. so there is that too. when you and your colleagues you saw it happen, what was your initial reaction? >> rage.

♪. elizabeth: joining us now heritage foundation senior fellow. he is dr. peter brookes. good to have you on sir. what was your reaction? the state department and pentagon is rejecting as quote, laughable conspiracy theory, that this is classic russian disinformation that the u.s. has biological weapons labs in ukraine? >> i agree with the administration. my view this is just another in a series of pretexts on the part of the russians to justify their invasion internationally, to justify their invasion at home, to change the channel on their brutality in ukraine and perhaps even use it as a pretext to increase the amount of violence and force that they're using in ukraine. so this is just another one of these you know, pre-texts, justifications on the part of the russians as part of their broader disinformation plan to try to dominate the information space. elizabeth: you know, that the pentagon is saying it has been cleaning up soviet-era labs in
