ukraine. the president is asking for 800 million more in hardware and more for ukraine. he called putin, quote, a war criminal today. joining us now, senator marsha blackburn from senate armed services. great to have you back on senator. good to see you. your reaction to today's events? >> yes. when you look at the speech, the remarks that president zelenskyy made today to congress it was very moving. he laid out specifically what they need. talked about a no-fly zone. if he couldn't get that, get armaments, hardware, missiles, anti-ballistic missile systems and getting all of that he needs in order to do the job. you know what, elizabeth? that would basically give him the ability to create a no-fly zone. so that was very good. what i really liked that he did was he mentioned, he personalized this to us, talking

about the pearl harbor, talking about 9/11 and then he laid out a challenge to president biden after saying he appreciated the president's support saying be the leader of the free world. be the leader of peace. and i thought it was all very well-done. the video was wonderful. it was inspiring. he is an inspiring leader and to think he is doing all of this. he is 45 years old. elizabeth: senator, you make an important point there. what's happening stateside with u.s. energy? you've been pretty vocal about this, senator. you're a student of history. the past four recessions have been preceded by sharp spikes higher in energy prices. the white house knows that. >> right. elizabeth: senator, i would like your reaction to this pushback from republican lawmakers slamming the white house for gaslighting on gas prices blaming putin and greedy oil

enough people are going to believe it and people know that prices have been going up steadily over a year. they know when it went to $3 a gallon. they know went it went to $4 a gallon. people are smart. what we need this white house to do is to say let's have an "operation warp speed" for american energy. let's return to being energy independent. it is unbelievable that we have been importing as much as we have from russia. it is just inconceivable that this white house wants to get oil from iran and venezuela. this is absurd. our two largest trading partners are mexico and canada. let's finish the keystone pipeline. that would go from canada all the way to the gulf. let's make sure that we are able to be energy independent. that keystone pipeline could be

finished within two years. and you know what, elizabeth? talking about the power grid. we do not have the power grid generation capacity to give us what we need to support and all electric fleet. electric vehicles are too expensive for most families to afford. right now in tennessee they're talking about, we've got two people. we've got two cars. we're paying so much more at the pump, so much more at groceries. more every time we go register the kids for a camp, for ball, or for some activity. the inflation is through the roof and people are saying, let's do something about it. the white house isn't. they blame joe biden for what is happening with russia, ukraine. they blame joe biden for not being able to articulate a foreign policy. they blame him for making

decisions that make their life worse. elizabeth: senator, you know your point is well-taken. the white house strategy, don't talk to u.s. oil producers, don't negotiate with them, instead negotiate with iran and venezuela of the by expensive electric cars. draw down from the strategic reserves. that moves the needle a dime or nickel this is literally picking up nickles in front of the steamroller of inflation. the white house is using tiktok stars blaming putin for rising gas prices, touting that storyline. far left, climate activists want president biden do an executive order, use ukraine as an excuse to go green. ban oil drilling maybe on federal lands, maybe fossil fuel subsidies. federal lanes, about a quarter of the out put there. the president already reversed 100 trump policies to achieve energy independence. like your response to this. watch the energy secretary say the quiet part out loud. use ukraine to go grown.

spring compared to 2019. if you're renting a house, say at the shore or in the mountains, that is going to cost you too, up 16% plus at the shore and 20% or so in the mountains. despite all of that at this point it doesn't look like america has decided not to travel this spring. plans seem to be on track. listen to what aaa told us. >> on our survey in fact, 42% of those who had summer travel plans are not making any changes to them. so so far so good. and going back through november, december, january, we just fell off the chart bookings for the first quarter which ends in a couple weeks. reporter: despite all of that there are indications that behavior is beginning to change. everything from buying less gas to a scene we see out here at the tesla supercharger that is attached to this gas station. the supercharger almost as busy now as the gas pumps. some folks pretty happy that

here? >> well, he is right. again looking at the science, you know, you don't need the mask because if you look at the areas where they had no mask mandates versus the areas where they had mask mandates, there is no significant difference and i certainly think that people who are immunocompromised, have significant issues, might be well-advised to wear a mask, but that is something they should take up with their physician. that should not be some government bureaucrat dictating. and -- way our system is set up. elizabeth: we hear you. what about the fallacy of, you know the states with more republicans in it were not vaccinated as much as those in blue states? >> well, you know there were a lot of people who refused vaccinations, particularly the first line workers, doctors, nurses, because they know something about immunology.
