but it appears so far he's not pulled all the troops out from around kyiv and moving south, there's no evidence he's done that he's holding part of a toy train. in ukraine, the situation is extremely grim today. president zelenskyy gave a heartbreaking update on the humanitarian disaster. >> there's nothing fair, no food, no water, no medical, no life there. there's nothing necessary for having any kind of life. kennedy: zelenskyy begging the west for more help. he says his people are beginning to run low on weapons like the government missiles decimating russian tank battalions. much of the country has been destroyed as you have seen, 4 million refugees have already fled millions mark displaced. what does it look like on the ground? here with me in studio fox news

correspondent trey yingst, he's back from a month on the ground in ukraine, how that is it? welcome back, we are happy you are here, your reporting has been phenomenal and i know it's been difficult for you but how bad has it been? i know you've report in war zones around the globe but how does this differ? >> the weapons used right now around civilian areas are significant and quite different from what we see in other conflict zones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles and targeting civilian areas. at first, we reported indiscriminate shelling but this is a coordinated campaign by russian president putin target civilian areas like he has in other places in the world like syria and move forces forward. the russians were not prepared for was the amount of resistance we seen from the ukrainians. kennedy: and that happened, like we are now almost five weeks

into this war and you still see people on the ground, men on the ground who are fighting tooth and nail, how are they sustaining that? obviously places like mariupol, there's no food or water, no electricity, we are hearing about famine throughout the country. obviously there's a lot of internal rate that goes into that but you have to have physical sustenance to keep going, how are they doing it? >> there's a huge difference between the cities that have supply might open mic kyiv the capitol and cities who don't like mariupol, this southern port city. with a supply line open, they can get weapons and javelin missiles and aircraft batteries they are able to defend against russian jets overhead but in areas they don't have supply lines open, they are fighting down to the last bullet and that is the problem in the southern areas russians now partially control.

ukrainian forces in many cases are surrounded and having to fight their way out or be totally targeted by the russian soldiers. kennedy: it's something that -- i'm like you were there, it's incredibly dangerous and obviously five journalists lost their lives covering this conflict including to fox news journalists and i know you are instrumental in getting benjamin fall out of the country but also recovering the bodies of the two fox news cameramen and paternalist you worked with, for years. how did you do that and what other organizations did you work with that might surprise some people? >> the situation on the ground in ukraine was tragic and devastating, a nightmare scenario. we lost two of our colleagues in the field. my cameramen and paternalist on the ground and benjamin hall was injured in this. credit should go to other people because they worked around the clock to assist our team to get the individuals out.

fortunately benjamin is doing well, he's stable. i have talked to him and he's in good spirits and i think when he heals will be back covering the news, he's an incredible journalist and a strong guy and i think he will get through this. kennedy: doesn't make you pause and your own personal life when you see people you spent close to succumb to this vicious murder and someone like benjamin paul? we assume the once reporting are untouchable, you are our people, showing us the most dangerous places on earth but does it make you rethink what you do? >> i think it gave us a moment to look at what happened and identify how tragic this was but we understand the risks going into these areas, dangerous areas and it doesn't matter if you repair four weeks or if you take every precaution you can

when there's this amount of firing on civilian areas, it's impossible to be one 100% prepared. it's a risk that comes with covering these areas but these journalists were committed to getting the story out to the world, they were witnessing abuses taking place before their eyes. they were committed to getting the story out we see that so often by journalists in war zones across the world. a commitment to accountability and making sure when russians say they aren't targeting civilian areas, they put cameras in the area capture what's happening on the ground to show people what's happening, not tell them what to think but show them the facts. pierre and benjamin are those journalists, they are doing their job when this tragic incident happened. kennedy: and so are you. are you upset, mad and doesn't

color your reporting knowing what happens? >> the way i've come out of this is understanding what i can do and will continue to do, to tell stories in their honor and be even more motivated to hold people accountable shine light and dark places and make sure the world knows what's happening on the ground in ukraine. we saw it, it hit close to home losing two of our colleagues but personally for me i am motivated more than ever to practice this craft at the highest level to make sure the world knows what's happening and to tell our viewers the news. kennedy: all right, when are you going back out there? >> soon. kennedy: all right, we will be watching and talking to you and getting your reporting because you are at the top of your field. thank you so much. meanwhile president biden has been called a national security risk, i can't imagine why. none what called into question.

single significant consequential foreign policy decision for the last 40 years, i don't know why anybody would think suddenly he would figure it out now. without due respect if there is any do, we are not backing vladimir putin into a corner but i don't think we should feel bad about asking him back into his own country in fact literally what needs to happen here, we should be happy ukrainians are holding the line and happy for every inch of ground they take. i look at this a little different than some where i think they should be provided ammunition and weaponry to be successful, i think we the u.s. should sell it to nato, nato has not been pulling its fair share for the longest time. this is in their neighborhood and they should buy ammunitions and the capability from the united states and then they should provide it in their neighborhood to ukraine to push back the aggressor so they don't

have to deal with it on their soil. kennedy: i agree, it's much more a european problem but the united states is not the only country that produces weapons systems certainly we shouldn't be doing the lion share of funding or nato. also ukraine, it's not part of nato necessarily but germany could be doing a lot more and i think senator cotton is right about something, that is this administration seems more scared of ukraine winning and that seems odd to me because they are the ones fighting for freedom. we should be cheering that on and i know the united states offered $2.5 billion in military and weapons aid, hopefully more of that will be the humanitarian variety but why isn't this administration doing more to broker peace? >> i think they literally are scared. vladimir putin's threat seem to be working on biden and we all knew when biden set vladimir

putin was afraid to go toe to toe with him as opposed to donald trump, we all knew that was a farce. i think he's literally scared, scared of failure in leadership, he's never been in a position of actually leaving, he's in the position now but let's face it, he did not earn it. that's how most leaders earn it. while he might be wearing it, no one is calling him sir because he's earned the respect so he's just completely out of his element and i think that's exactly what we are saying and i think this is a dangerous situation. he's literally equivocating and saying russia is no worse than ukraine in that respect. both of them are corrupt nations but there's one that wishes it were free and closer to the west. the other one is essentially an enemy of the united states regardless of what they like to say since the bolshevik resolution and we can't russia at all and we have no quarrel

with the russian people, we do with the old vestiges of the communist party and current leadership. kennedy: they are still commies. i know you are the chair of the house freedom caucus, congressman cawthorn is a member, he step in this week basically insinuating there were sitting members of congress cofield orgies. has he named names? are you going to kick him out or in the caucus? either way. >> he's our colleagues, i didn't get a chance to talk to the good representative, i think he understands the gravity of the circumstances . kennedy: was he lying? >> i don't know that he was, i told him in my opinion he should named names, if you say something like that, i think it's a duty the american people need to know who they are. kennedy: did he named some

names? >> i left that up to him and he can if he wants to but we had a good conversation in the group understands the gravity and we are moving on from it but certainly he has the opportunity to say more if he wants to. [laughter] kennedy: well, he should. he opened pandora's box. i don't know what you do want to open it, i guess you put it on a nice consul or something? met that's why most people don't want to open it. [laughter] kennedy: what is happening in d.c.? i thought new york was crazy. >> i come here and work late in the whole time i'm here and then i go home to my family so if those things are happening, i've never seen them i suspect we know some representatives have gotten in trouble for different things but it's never presented to me. i've never seen it. i am fully focused on my work and honestly i think most of the members here are focused that way and it doesn't mean we agree because we don't but i think

[laughter] >> yeah, i think the enthusiasm for the party, the democrat party right now is but you have to keep in mind i think the whole country is cranked, they don't listen to jimmy's show or get a laugh everyday. >> they do, have you seen the ratings? >> i know, i know but we need more to listen. they are not listening, that's what i'm saying, they are not in a good mood, people are upset about the covid protocols and mitigation, i think people are upset about inflation and war. because if you look at the economy, you say look at the economic measures and gdp and unemployment, wages going up, don't keep pace with some inflationary issues but they are going up so consumer spending and they say this is good economic times, trump might be screaming greatest economy ever but they are not buying it from

biden and the democrat right now. i think the best hope for the democrat right now is the fact that trump is out there scaring people and if he has a strong impression and makes a strong impression in the leader of the party going forward, the democrats might have smoked but right now the polls are terrible. kennedy: that was not enough, enough to get joe biden elected, he's not trump. that was enough in 2020 but won't be enough in 2022. certainly not in 2024. hannah, all of the issues he just laid out, the way the federal government completely botched the covid response in fact to administrations, that's not just this administration. inflation and monetary policy in this country, you've got what's going on in foreign foreign policy, a war where both parties who are angling for war and during the president to send troops and weapons in a no-fly

zone which would be disastrous so will libertarians finally be able to capitalize on the skepticism and distrust of the federal government? >> i think this ever a moment, it's right now and we need to make sure we message the people about the solutions we actually have because i look around and i don't see any real solutions to these very big and pressing problems both parties have been complicit in creating throughout our history. i think there are free market solutions a lot of people would gravitate toward right now and have finally had their eyes opened to what the government is doing to them the past couple of years. there's never a better moment to move forward and organize at the local level but have to make sure we are leveraging messaging and making these stakeholders and the people affected by this and we can't sit around and talk about economics which is something we are often guilty of and we have to show them what
