the bulls, some are already hitting the road to dodge the memorial day weekend rush as americans embrace the unofficial start of summer. those road trips costing a lot more these days. the national average for gasoline, $4.59 a gallon. a year ago it was $3.04. wholesale gasoline gushing higher. arbob better by 3.33% this -- of course, you know that's not only place we're seeing higher prices. we're going to hear from red robin's ceo about the hot dogs and hamburgers. meat prices are going crazy. up inflation, yes, still running hot, but prices, are they starting to slip, oh, so slightly? today we got the latest core pce read, the fed's favorite inflation metric, core personal consumption expenditures for april still rose at a 4.9 percent pace. that's hot year-over-year but

slightly cooler than march's 5.2%. month over month core pce rose three-tenths of a percent. the two rate hikes, are they working to tamp down inflation finally? maybe, but either way higher rates have had a crucial effect on tech stocks. the nasdaq down 10% since march when the federal reserve first started hiking rates. and while the tech tantrum has turned into tech the armageddon, days like this when everything looks green really makes investors wonder and question where a's the sector sweet with spot? well, goldman sachs telling investors these four tech companies will stand true and strong during market volatility; apple, amazon, meta and uber. all of them higher with alphabet jumping more than 3%, amazon jumping 2%. meta -- why is apple in there? apple is not on that list.

amazon, alphabet, meta and uber. all of them doing well today. but are these your only options? is goldman always right? let's bring in two brilliant floor show traders, scott fullman and carnivore trading's dutch masters. scott, let's get to it. i am sure you agree with maybe some of the goldman names, but what else should be packed into people's portfolios before we finish out this, what, 55 minutes left to trade? >> so good afternoon, liz, and i'll tell you, you know, there are a lot of decent names out there, and there are some names that are already turning the corner that i think people need to look at and own. i've been on your show numerous times, we've talked about advanced micro quites. this is really -- devices. this is really a core holding that's needed for your tech portfolio. this is a company that's been taking away market share from intel. there's a lot of flow going into it, and as the chip making comes back and we relieve some of these supply issues, i think

that this company is going to go back and test its highs. i i also like micron technology. again, we need more ram for all the machines, for the cars that are being built, for all the internet devices. i think that's one reason that you really need to look at micron. and if at&t, you know, the fact is that the communications stocks have been so beaten up, and we're starting to see a real turn around in this stock. i'm a technician by heart, and you take a look, you're seeing an upturn and seeing some demand come into this stock. so i think it's a good time to start going in and owning it. liz: yeah. and marriott and delta, i assume, for the travel play. let me get to dutch here. dutch, you -- as we've talked in the past, a couple months ago -- you were shorting the nasdaq qqqs. so you took off that short. now give me the names that you're piling into at the moment. >> so we mentioned to you on the

last time, liz -- and, by the way, great to see you, and we're in las vegas today -- liz: nice. >> -- so what's not to love of? [laughter] airbnb was something we mentioned to you last show that you said was, you know, who's going to have some pricing power and do well. so we went with that. and i just actually got a text many from my trader said, what are we buying, they said adobe, service now, team and palo alto networks, panw. and our biggest position other than our wheat etf is murphy, murphy usa. we really like these guys out of of arkansas. they are in 26 states, and the symbol is musa. murphy is just a very, very well-run business, and as oil prices stay up, their revenue top line's going to go up.

but the real story there is they have 2.2 million people every day who walk through the doors of their convenience stores which are nice and light and bright and cheerful, and people just go in there and get what they need, and they go on their way. that's a lot of people, and their retail revenues have been exploding. and, you know, i don't care where i'm -- whether i'm paying $1.75 or $2.25 for my diet coke while i'm on the road, i'm just going to go ahead and get that. liz: you say diet coke, i'm going with sweet tarts. [laughter] i mean, let's be real here. okay. so, scott, you know, if you look at your sectors, you do find, as we say, some nice picks in tech which is looking very strong today. are you worried at all that this is just a bear market rally? >> so -- liz: or hoping? why do i say worrying? you could be hoping so you can scoop up some more on discounted levels. >> so the fact is, you know, we get these bouncessen within,

within negative trends the or counter-trend rallies which are good. the thing is that you never know when the counter-trend rally is going to completely turn around and go positive. the fact is, is that we really feel the market's been way oversold. this is an opportunity to pick up some really good quality companies at low prices. and even if we go back down a bit, holding them is not really going to hurt you because when we we do recover, these are going to be some of the names that are going to outperform and lead the recovery, in our view. so the fact is, is that you can't always judge ahead of time, but you can certainly make some assumptions and try to decide which of those stocks you want to own that have really been beaten up and have a really good valuation now. liz: dutch, bear bounce or real thing? >> bear bounce, but it could have -- could be wicked strong. we just got off 100 of the worst days of nasdaq history, but the

dollar's rolling over, rates are rolling over, market's passing. market likes the fact that the rate of change is slowing down on some of the bad things. liz: yeah, and core pce just shows a teeny bit of slowing down. it's great to see you, gentlemen, have a safe weekend. thank you so much. >> thank you, liz. liz: always a pleasure. fox business alert, on a day when the nasdaq is the rock star of the major indices, a rock star stock during the pandemic, workday, is down 5.33% after the human resource software company missed quarterly estimates. workday lost about 41 cents a share compared with a loss of 19 cents a year ago as investors are apparently no longer willing to pile into growth at any cost names that can't post profits. multiple brokerages including wells, jpmorgan, credit suisse cutting their price targets on the stock which, by the way, hit a high of $307 back in november and has now cratered to $159 and change right now.

gap stores also reporting a big earnings miss last night, but shares of the retailer are higher at this hour, up 4.6%. gap gave full-year guidance of between 30-60 cents a share, that's down from a range of 1 is.85-2.05. the retailer specifically singled out its old navy division the saying the segment's lower income customers are feeling the pressures of inflation now, and old navy will also be scaling back its inclusive sizing strategy after demand for the larger sizes fell short, and the store chain ran out of medium sizes. separately, american eagle outfitters getting its wings clipped after fiscal first quarter results missed expectations, it's down 5.7%, $13.21 a share. ulta beauty, though, glittering on an upbeat forecast. the beauty products retailer reporting quarterly sales rose 21%. ulta says the end of lockdowns and mask mandates have increased demand for makeup. you can show your face, right?

and other beauty products k if that's helping to drive up sales and profits and the stock right now which is jumping 10.7%. and hopefully you remember yesterday on our floor show, sarge told you he's been a huge fan of nvidia but only on down days. well, ark investor ceo cathie wood dove back into the nvidia pool purchasing nearly 250,000 shares of the chipmaker which she then spread across three of her etfs. ark approximately paid about $43.7 million for that chunk. wood and her team have previously held shares of nvidia but then liquidated all positions in november of last year. since then that stock has fallen roughly 40%. but even after buying a round yesterday, she's still in the money at this hour because shares are topping $188. the china threat, secretary of state antony blinken laying

liz: whoa, look at this, the nasdaq is cracking through ceilings right and left. there is a new high here, session high for the nasdaq. it's a jump of about 352 points. we're just below that at up 344 points. cybersecurity stocks, a lot of them trade on the nasdaq, they are on the move as secretary of state antony blinken sends up warning flares in a speech detailing the nation's new effort to combat what he says is our greatest international challenger, china. >> we're sharpening our tools to safeguard our technological

inspection happens, you get connected to the right party. so i'm excited and pleased to see that the current administration is9 putting focus on asking all agencies to implement zero trust architecture within two years. liz: well, jay, i agree, i think that the government needs to be all over this. you guys certainly have. but could you, for our viewers, tell us where you place china and its state, for lack of a better explanation, state hacking groups. you know, whether it's russia or north korea or, i mean, some are running around in romania. i mean, not endorsed by the state there the, certainly, but who, who ranks at the very top? is it china? >> so we have a sizable security research team that actually tracks our reconnaissance activity as these players are trying to figure out who to go after, how and what not. china and russia, to be sure, are on the top. we talk about russia more

lately, but china has its limbs all over the world. so we need to make sure these people can't get on our network, on our systems. i think we can talk about it, we can keep on trying to do things, but fundamentally our government needs to change the way they get into our systems, and that is changing to the new architecture that says trust no one. zero trust the. and that's where our federal government is taking advantage of providers like us to provide them services. and we have actually worked with over a hundred federal agencies to help them, but there's a long huawei to go. liz: yeah. and, of course, you work with hundreds of fortune 500 companies and corporations across europe and the middle east, everywhere. you are getting hired to do that. you know, look, we've got to stick up for ourselveses, and our government has to be vocal about that. but after blinken's speech, a chinese spokesperson tweeted out

basically, in essence, saying it sounded like a declaration of all-out strategic competition or war against china. you know, from a hacker standpoint what can corporations and businesses expect? what should they look for and where are the holes they need to plug right now? >> yeah. in a simplistic way the architecture we have built for network and security is what i call castle and moat. you think that once you come in the castle, you're trusted. that needs to change. we shouldn't allow bad people to come in disguised as good people. liz: right, right. >> and we fundamentally need to change our security architecture, reduce our dependence on firewalls and bpn and the like and introduce better identity systems where it prop orally gets checked, who are you? -- properly gets checked, who are you? if we don't change those things fundamentally, we'll be just

small restaurant owners worry that inflation could force them to shut down within the next six months. as of april, the price of beef and veal products up by 14.3% year-over-year. now, while in 44 u.s. states and 12 locations in canada the international gourmet burger chain red robin is hoping to turn a loyal customer base into a sustained period of processer thety. and -- prosperity. the stock is doing just that at the moment. joining us now, red robin ceo paul murphy. well, at least today. this is a massive gain here, paul. you guys are jumping 27% at the moment. but let's, let's tackle in the right now regarding the cost situation. what are you facing? because we're looking at labor costs, i guess in the first quarter up more than 131% -- 11%? that's a stunning number. >> yes. i'd say it's definitely a interesting time. any typical year either you're

getting cost pressure, inflation against the food side of the business or the labor side of the business. and as you pointed out, it's against sides of the restaurant business. and we have been able to tap into our royalty members, we call our loyalty program's called red robin royalty. as you mentioned, it's 10.6 million strong out there, and and through our enhanced system, we've streamlined our ability to more effectively communicate with them. launched a new lislety the platform -- loyalty the platform at the end of 2021. we've personalized our messaging with them so that when they're we're communicating with them, we're communicating in a way that they use red robin. that's how they want to interact with us. so the messaging really is personal ifized to how they like

to to interact with us and that ability has really improved the number of engagements with the red robin brand, the trial, the frequency, the conversion. so we can get them in for their favorites, we have give them some discounting, we can help them out from a cost structure in their daily lives. so i think it's a crucial asset and advantage for the brand. ours is one of the largest in the industry, and people are reacting very favorably to it. liz: well, you finally got to what i was going to ask which is, okay, what are you communicating? people want discounts, they want value right now. when we see what, as i said, costs for labor, how are you not translating this to a higher burger cost, and tell me how you're managing to a maneuver around what are very serious inflationary pressures. >> well, we have a couple, i think, advantages for it.

we have held our pricing down compared to a lot of other brands, but a real value driver for red robin is our whole bottomless concept. so, you know, we're doing these lpo promotions, backyard barbecue today that's led by the smokehouse brisket burger. but along with that, you'll receive bottomless fries. so there's a value component to almost every burger that we sell that i think offsets a little bit of the price that a we're taking to offset the inflation on the burger side. and we're maintaining that. we're not taking that away from the customer, so it's -- a lot of it's on the fries, on the beverages. and so they see the true value of red robin as certainly as you can see through the earnings results. they think it's a very compelling value proposition. liz: well, yes, and you're

certainly not going to buy the stock at a high. even with the gain today, you're down about 33% year to date. it's been a very rough six months and full year not just for you, but how do you foresee this really starting to turn the around for the stock the beyond today? >> well, i am -- honestly, i believe that the inflation q2 will be somewhat similar to q1. but i also see that moderating as we move to the back half to the mid single digits as we get to the back half of 'the -- of '22, into '23. i think that's going to auto-- put a little more discretionary income back into people's pockets. quite honestly, it's maintaining that price structure to, in fact, i think red robin has the ability to steal market share from other brands due to our ppa. it's much lower than a lot of others in the casual dining segment, and part of that's by

liz: all right, take a look at bitcoin at the moment, it has fallen below 29,000 standing at 28,520. crypto investors are on a high alert heading into this memorial day holiday. long weekends have typically been very rough for the crypto sector with less liquidity in the market trading and the swings that a come with it are much wider and more volatile in part because cryptos trade 24/7. secondly in the crypto space, the sec has rejected a proposal by asset management firm one river to list a trade -- list and trade a car won-neutral -- carbon-neutral spot etf, one of many that have been are rejected

by the sec. and talk about a dog whistle, all it took was one tweet from tesla ceo elon musk announcing that the cryptocurrency dogecoin will soon be able to be used to buy the ev maker's merch along with spacexmerch, and that has sent dogecoin up as much as 18%. tesla, of course, is also having a great day. up about 7% -- 6.8% at the moment. all right. let's go. speaking of elon musk tweeting, we have the latest on his takeover plans for twitter. charlie. >> musk says he wants to do it still. he's been making filings recently, that he's up to the equity portion. i think some of our viewers know in the, but if you look at the way the stock is trading, it's trading like this thing is going to be sold. at least that's what everybody i talk to, you know, is saying -- liz: at what price? >> the betting is somewhere in the 40s or maybe at 40 they

will take his bid, and the reason why is there is no natural buyer for in the other than elon musk right now. and the stock is probably not $48 a share. we should point out that some of this rally in the stock is elon-related. some of it is the related to the markets. if you believe that the markets right now are, this is kind of a dead cat bounce, right, this is like markets discounting inflation and not taking into account the possible and looming recession that we're, a lot of investors are predicting, you know, twitter is a $20 stock, something like that, you know? $20, $30 stock. that's what people say, so they have to pit -- to hit this bid. i think the money is on, just what i'm hearing, that next week is kind of a big week, that next week is the week we, you know, start fooling around and we figure out, like, what prices are they going to go at, where are they, or does twitter go to court, you know?

we should point out that the sec, fox business was first to report this. when i see stories like this in the times, the journal -- actually, the journal and bloomberg,9 that the sec has sent him notices about his bid for twitter and how he timed and disclosed it, you know, on your show in april we were talking about this. so why it's such a big deal now. investors are all largely blowing in this off, and they think even if he got nailed on, you know, the failing to disclose properly, it's like a fine, couple million dollars which he can obviously afford being the world's richest man. also we should point out that the sec's been looking at elon musk predating all this. i mean, they've been looking at accounting, production numbers, things of that nature -- liz: harassing, do you mean? >> who's harassing? liz: well, i mean, the sec's really breathed heavily down he is la's back, and some people say it's the been somewhat unfair. >> john wheaton, the lawyer, the

expert on xrp and ripple, he said this was bill gates, breathing down his neck. the one thing i will say -- i mostly always agree with john, but one thing i would say is the sec had been looking at him before in the. some of his production numbers were kind of funky, you know, whether he's committing fraud, i can't tell you. but i think next week is big. this deal, i think rubber meets the road -- liz: or maybe they just decide we're not selling because this stock was in the 703s last year, and maybe think they $70s. >> that's when the fed was pumping money. we're in a weird economic situation right now. liz: aviator glasses for tom cruise. >> met me see. liz: what's your call sign? >> aquarius, i don't know.
