statewide offices from governor down through controller and in our biggest cities, san francisco, san jose, san diego a lot of times, los angeles we continue to have democratically dominated city councils, mayors offices and etc. the problems have consistently gotten worse. i don't know who it was show, it's one thing to say you can say the environment, the economy, you can say drugs are stronger than they were before, whatever excuse you have if you continue to do the same thing speaking to the electorate in california, you continue to do the same thing, you continue to see the same result. we already have way too many homeless people throughout the cap state of california throughout los angeles county, throughout the city of los angeles on my way to work, i passed no fewer than 100 tenths of homeless people on top of the many homes set up by the city in

of step with the majority voters in their cities respectively. the city has two basic functions in terms of providing health and safety to its residents and clearly these two beautiful wonderful cities i know you love l.a., kennedy, you spent a lot of time there are hurting, hurting from gary's points in terms of homelessness on the street and rise in crime and these city governments need to get their act together when it comes to these issues, i'm hopeful they will take billions of dollars in the american rescue plan passed by democrats and the president to refocus resources toward community policing and resources for homeless and getting these folks off the streets, something both karen bass and rick caruso are campaigning on in terms of seeing both candidates boosting for police. karen bass pushing for police, that's where middle voters are not just my party but those cities. kennedy: karen bass, for people who don't remember who olivia is, she was talked about as a potential vp candidate for then

independently elect a sheriff, i'm focusing on homelessness, violent crime. what matters to the community just as you are talking about. they want everyone to look the other way and claim brutality. what evidence do they have? they don't have anything. a large organization is hours like nypd, lapd, there will be issues that need addressed, issues of excessive force which we are holding people accountable, prosecuting where need to be prosecuted and terminating people who need to be terminated and that is it. people claiming we are condoning anything wrong, they are flat out wrong. they've got a false narrative going and they know it because it's all about the distract the voter away from the homeless crisis and violent crime. it won't be solved by defunding sheriff's office. kennedy: karen bass or rick caruso? >> definitely caruso or bass, she represents everything that is wrong for this status flow right now and she wants to double down on the status quo.

kennedy: she says she wants to fund more law enforcement in southern california, i'll believe that when i see it but she's part of the model party democrat california establishment that failed, they don't offer solutions. would you like to work with rick caruso if you win your elections tonight? >> i need to work with whoever wins and i'm excited to work with someone who's going to support law enforcement, calls for funding instead of defunding law enforcement and work together and collaboratively because we have to tackle the homeless crisis, we cannot be the magnet for entire nations homeless and all these platitudes from the status quo and bass herself sounds the same, they can't even admit we become the entire nations homeless, they have no solution for dynamic problem.

this was their story from the beginning so they will stick to it. their talking points as the crisis ramped up was root causes, root causes, root causes and they are too arrogant and too politically paralyzed to pivot from that because that would be admission they are wrong and force them to do something their base will allow them to which is part of the problem. if she actually spent time at the border, the people in charge down there which i did recently, i was down there for days with the texas dps. kennedy: i was surprised. >> i talked to those officials and they scoffed not really but they scoff at this root causes idea because they said when the last x number of months during this administration they've tallied illegal migrants they apprehended at the border from more than 150 countries. you aren't going to root cause your way out of 150 flawed nations around the world, is not doable. i get it focusing on a few northern triangle places maybe but until the magnet is turned off, until incentive structure is completely changed none of the window dressing is going to work, massive waste of money and

telling people how to not die from fentanyl overdoses? >> there's nothing wrong with how to not die. actually, i'm a supporter of fentanyl test strips, i think they should be, can be given out as a tool for people to understand they are in the grips of the disease and there are ways to get help but to tell people they are empowered when they do it, to me that's weird because it leads to the next step. you're prettier when you're doing heroin or more handsome with fentanyl blowing out your nose. that to me is the logical step to take but the idea you can tell people listen, drugs are bad, okay? drugs will not make you any healthier, there's no safe way to inject drugs into your body or snow them into your nose but we don't want to die so here's how we can prevent you from dying. we hope. that's a better message than feel empowered to do the drugs whenever you want.

kennedy: i agree. the messaging itself, name and messaging is clumsy but what it says on the bottom of the board is exactly what you said, use fentanyl test strips, take turns so you're not all injecting bad drugs. at the same time, that's how five people die at once and it's not drug users, it's not addicts succumbing to fentanyl poisoning, kevin, it's teenagers, kids in college. people doing drugs for the first time who don't know what they are doing, don't know if they should call 911 and not get in trouble with the cops when one of their friends is odm, that's how people die, people around them get scared and panic and don't call for help. >> exactly right, fear. so many of the deaths can be prevented, we know these deaths are come from internal placed in other drugs for example, new york city loses individual road drug overdose over four hours. i think any kind of resources

out there that can try to prevent that from a messaging campaign and i think, kennedy, we've talked about marijuana decriminalization, the war on drugs has fundamentally failed in this country, so many people and families and anything we can do in terms of intervention if they've tested the messages and work with for drug addicts and see what's working in terms of messaging, any life saved will be an important step forward. kennedy: olivia, should our society pivot toward harm reduction versus incarceration? >> i think it's clear to see that the drugs have one war on drugs. mask incarcerations, we are seeing high rates of overdose, it's not the hardened drug addict it's addicts, his kids, college kids doing it for the first time and they have no harm

reduction, there's something wrong and saying i don't want these people to die, let's talk to them how to not die. obviously drugs are bad and wrong but the way we have criminalized them and made it hard to get help and criminalized getting help over the years and with violent criminals when they need medical treatment and facilities, it sickens me. it is very wrong. my one criticism of this new advertisement seen in public transportation in new york is i don't want to be around kids, kids looking and saying how to safely inject yourself shoot up, i don't like that. i don't like that messaging but in some regards it's more successful, i think we will see it more successful than police cracking down on anyone who has a problem, we should call it what it is, health problem. this is moot if we don't close the border, heroin and fentanyl are coming in to the border and

i think a lot of people, the same people who are on harm reduction don't care about that, i'm one who cares about both but yeah. kennedy: libertarians tend to be more consistent on just about every issue including this one, especially when combined with war on drugs and the border and how you take care of all of it at once because he can't take care of one aspect and clearly ignore the other. you are not fixing the problem. meanwhile president biden, he's finally uniting the country against himself. a new poll shows eight out of ten americans think the economy is garbage under his leadership. try getting 80% of americans to agree on anything. that's not 80% republicans, 80% of america. gas prices hit another new hi, the national average, $4.92. knock, knock, knocking on $5-gallon of gas.
