"the evening edit" starts right now. ♪ elizabeth: welcome to the show. let's take a check of your money. stocks finishing up, look at that! it was choppy trading here is what went on. fed chair jerome powell testified that second quarter growth could still be pretty strong but he also testified that his, the fed interest rate hikes could lead to job losses. now president biden is getting criticized by economists and wall street for believing an energy policy is federal gas tax policy and draining the strategic reserves. these are nickel and dime moves. by the way the reserves are meant for emergencies like holidays, not political emergencies like falling poll numbers. and we've got a drastic move coming in potentially. energy secretary granholm is saying the president could use a defense production act to force more gas supplies out of more

oil companies. the president did undercut u.s. energy. he is trying out a new narrative. republicans can't fight his plans to bring down gas prices, they shouldn't do that, if they do they would be supporting putin's war in ukraine. joining us all to break it all down host of fox business's "kudlow," he is larry kudlow. larry so good to have you on again. i said a mouthful there, what do you think of what i just said? >> i thought it was pretty good actually, liz. nice to be back with you. elizabeth: good to see you. >> i thought the absolute worse thing in a policy on energy that is over all very, very bad but the worst thing they bring in the seven big ceos of the oil and gas companies, right and they put them in the energy department to meet with jennifer granholm, the energy secretary but joe biden doesn't show up. meanwhile in the afternoon, liz, he goes to a meeting of labor unions and some governors and some private people to talk

about building windmills, okay, wind turbines. there you have it. that is all you need to know. shows up at the meeting for wind turbines, he dodges the meeting on fossil fuels, and i got news for him, his savior will not come from wind turbines, it will come from fossil fuels. elizabeth: yeah. >> as long as they maintain restrictions and the regulations and the lack of permits and so forth there is nothing they can do. they can't just shoot these ceos and force them to increase their refining because they can't get permits and they're up to capacity, 95% and they can't build anymore and the whole thing's a mess and prices are going to stay high. that is what i think. elizabeth: you said a mouthful too. we love having you on because you just break it down. larry, here is the thing is, the press secretary had no answer why the president skipped out on the meeting with the oil executives. watch this. reporter: why is he not in the room tomorrow to express hess message himself.

>> president talked about this as you just stated earlier today. the secretary of energy, jennifer granholm will have the conversations. elizabeth: the american taxpayer, larry, are tired of paying salaries of people who are creating political flannel, this kind of narrative. he won't sit down with them but happy to attack and bully oil companies from afar. he will sit down with foreign adversaries. he will sit down with saudi arabia. he never went to the border, right? did you see the story, russia, china talking about drilling in the arctic where we're shutting down our u.s. energy? they're on the move. this feels very unserious, this white house. >> well, you're right it is unserious. it is also, lizzie, it's a national security threat. i mean it is and energy security threat to be sure but it has become a national security threat because we're going to be reliant on these foreign producers of energy since we

can't produce enough. we're still running a million barrels a day short from the prepandemic high during the trump administration. you know, on this business about the arctic, i just want to add, related matter russia now is back to pre-war oil production, okay? we are at these very high prices financing the russian war machine. they run about 10 million barrels a day. they had dropped down all the way to just around nine million barrels a day because sanctions put on. what happened, china, india are making up slack. russian production is now moving back towards 10 million barrels a day, you know, 100, $120 a barrel. isn't that something? we're back to financing russia's ukraine war. i find that incredible. elizabeth: that is incredible. >> that is one of the -- besides

not showing up with the oil ceos, besides insulting the ceos before they got there, especially mike worth of chevron and darren woods of exxonmobil, besides doing all that high school stuff he is doing, he is jeopardizing america's national security after damaging our energy security. to me it is unpardonable. elizabeth: this is what you get with a guy that has been around since the nixon era. you quoted john mccain every time russia oil hits 100 they start invades. you pointed out they invaded mole dave yaw, crimea, and ukraine. i want your reaction to this, you pointed this out so beautifully on your show, federal reserve chairman jerome powell again rebutted the president's narrative today. >> yes. elizabeth: jerome powell says we got to get back to the trump market. more mayhem out of d.c. reaction to this. watch. >> for all those republicans in

congress criticizing me today for high gas prices in america are you saying we were wrong to support ukraine. >> are you saying the war in ukraine was primary driver of inflation in the america? >> inflation was high before the war in ukraine broke out. >> we're talking about 18 cents per gallon which will to a long way. >> if you went to the uk today for a gallon equivalent you would be paying $7 and 71 cents. if you went to france you would be paying $8.49. if you went to canada you would pay over $6 per gallon. elizabeth: which should be happy with 18 cents in tax savings? with when you won't be able to buy a gallon ever milk. inflation is trans other, recession is transition, now this, larry. >> by the by these high energy prices causing food prices to

skyrocket. on top of that let's not forget this e15, putting new ethanol incentives in not only detracts from the gasoline, it also detracts from corn growing. it also destracks from fertilizer and also keeps grocery store prices very high. as far as france, germany and canada's concerned you know jennifer granholm might be happy to have the u.s. like france and germany and so forth. i'm not. i don't think anybody should be. i mean that is slouching down pretty low stuff. we're at a point here when trump was president he wanted america first. america first in economic growth, and job creation an wanted america first in wages, america first in energy, something we would be independent or at least energy dominant that puts america first in terms of our own national security. >> you know what it is, larry, it is democrats, but it is democrats first, right? they're ruling for their own party, their own ideologies and

own interests, not got are the country. biden think as 18-cent tax holiday will not get wiped out by gas as he restrictions gas supply and cracks down on u.s. energy? he is pushing electric cars as you point out. majority of our electricity comes from fossil fuels. all the heavy batteries in those electric cars they will destroy the roads and bridges taxpayers are paying to fix in biden's infrastructure spending. your final word? >> the only thing i can say biden has dug himself into this big box, the box is called radical green energy, okay? with subsidies, tax credits, war against fossil fuels. but here's the politics. that box is very unpopular around the country. i keep saying the best hope we have is the calvary is coming in november and things are going to change. elizabeth: wipe out this intolerant religion that has taken hold. they keep calling themselves

elizabeth: welcome back. a lot of action on guns today. here is what happened. the supreme court struck down new york state's concealed carry law. remanded it back to a lower court. this fight is not over. new york officials say they will fight it. the supreme court basically said the restrictions new york has ask unconstitutional. that a person who wants to carry a concealed handgun must show they need to do so for self-defense. this happened hours later, the senate moved on a bipartisan gun safety bill in response to mass shootings. now here is what else is going on. the l.a. d.a., george gascon he has been accused of going weak on crime. he is trying to claim attacks against him are just quote, political. matt finn in los angeles with more. reporter: l.a. county district attorney george gascon is now trying to explain why a man

convicted of a double murder was set free and then a few months ago, charged with a third murder? victor bibiano was convicted for shooting to death two people in 2009 gang-related double homicide, sentenced to life in prison. after serving less than 12 years he was released last year. april he was charged charged wia third murder in shooting death of a 42-year-old trans incident mario rodriguez. prosecutors say they were ready for his transfer hearing but george gascon refused to participate in his transfer case under a blanket policy ending transfer cases for juveniles resulting in him being set free to commit a alleged third murder. at a town hall he explained his decision. >> we had experts look at the case, under the law we could not meet our person to send him back

to adult prison or adult court. reporter: two los angeles district attorneys they think gascon is not telling the truth about bill. bano case. he denies any wrongdoing. >> great journalism. joining us florida congresswoman kat cammack. congresswoman, you've been all over violence and crime across the country. when you hear the d.a. are fighting with his prosecutors, they don't trust each other about the truth, veracity about cases they're working on, what does it say to you? >> it tells me they're more interested in political out come than doing the job they were hired to do, i say hired deliberately. even though he is an elected official he is hired to do a job which is prosecute and go after violent criminals and keep them behind bars where they belong, not where they commit multiple murders which we saw in this case but you know, liz, i'm not really surprised. the guy was elected with 53% of his donors coming from the bay

area and wealthy individuals like george soros and the netflix ceo. no surprise that he didn't have the backing of law enforcement or everyday people who have to deal with the fallout of rising crime. elizabeth: we hear like people in california tell us, these guys live in gated communities, right? people on the street, the innocent citizens are getting hit how is that not a civil rights violation for what they're doing to them? there is a video going viral on facebook. people are cheering this. a chicago man with a black belt. congresswoman he pinned down an alleged thief who punched a 7-eleven worker held him down until police down. he held the guy in a headlock. look at that. this video, nypd searching for multiple suspects seen in a video involved in a string of burglaries on staten island. they stole a rolls-royce. he thwarted them with a kill switch to shut off the engine. they found his car in newark,

new jersey. the suspect is still on the lose. this is what every day americans see on the streets. >> exactly. people from all walks of life, lining up to support conservatives who support law enforcement. who support law and order. because what we have now is a bunch of limousine liberals who want nothing more than defund police and put liberal d.a.s in positions where they're letting people out of jail on nonsense charges. this is ridiculous. with crime rising in some of the toughest cities in the country, that have some of the toughest gun control we now see the senate passing a big, major hurdle quite frankly advancing a bill that will do nothing more than empower criminals, take weapons to protect themselves out of hands of law-abiding citizens. it is all nonsense. all the more reason we're taking back the house in november. again this is something we are going to win on because crime is rising. people had enough. elizabeth: that bill has $300 million for school safety.

it has red flags law. that is what the debate is about. could come this weekend, people on other side, republicans broke a filibuster to push it forward. broken by mitch mcconnell. we have to move on. this is action here over abortion. california nicholas roske caught near brett kavanaugh's home in maryland, allegedly threatening to assassinate brett kavanaugh, pled not guilty in court. he had in his position, glock pistol, tactical knife, pepper spray and zip ties. i want reaction to senators ted cruz and ron johnson. why is the doj not stopping illegal protests at the judges hopes? >> organized left will engage in riots, violence. we'll see a reprise i fear of the black police officers matter and antifa riots where they will try to use political violence to advance their ends.

the department of justice needs to step in and stop them. >> it is outrageous. they don't have the biden administration condemning this intimidation. you don't have democrats speaking out against it. if you remember chuck schumer on the steps of the supreme court, threatening justice gorsuch and kavanaugh you unleashed the whirlwind, you will pay the price. you won't even know what hit you. if you imagine a republican congressional leader uttered those words, issued that threat against a liberal justice, first of all that republican congressperson would not be in congress. elizabeth: congresswoman, sit tight. listen to this. the democrat michigan, democrat secretary of state in michigan, she is saying on camera it was terrifying to have protesters outside of her house demonstrating about election results in the state of michigan. watch this. >> for a full 45 minutes all that stood between my family and those on the streets with one neighborhood security guard. it was not just my house.

my neighbors who also have kids in the middle of the night hearing these things shouted outside their windows. it was terrifying. elizabeth: so why is it okay to protest at homes of the justices? >> it's not. political violence has no place in our society whatsoever. hard stop, i don't care what side you're on, political violence and threats has absolutely no place. i am so sick and tired of this being a partisan issue today. the democrats need to step up. nancy pelosi, chuck schumer, joe biden they need all to say this is unacceptable, you cannot do this -- elizabeth: they're focused on the capitol riots hearings. we understand, the capitol riots roundly condemned but focused on that but not on this. why the silence on this? >> it is hypocrisy in its finest. they're trying to push in the sham january 6 committee. they can't do it on one side and not on the other. they are so lost in their own web of lies that they can't see straight. we need to condemn the violence

offhandedly nobody give as [bleep] about january 6. when they're talking about their districts, the way that elections play out. it is not a top tier voting issue for people figuring out who they will support during the midterms. top two issues, how people paying mortgages. how much it cost to get milk and bread. how much it costs to get gas. elizabeth: what do you say, congressman? >> i think she is right. it is about gas prices. it is about mortgage rates. it is about inflation, how much you go to the food store, how much it costs to buy a gallon of milk or chicken, beef. when you go to the gas station, price of gas continues to go up and up and up. you go to the southern border, you got record numbers of immigrants flowing through the border. this president doing absolutely nothing about it. as a matter of fact, the decisions this president has made since day one have created all of these crises. we don't have to be here. we should be in an up swing. our economy should be roaring.

we have a "washington post" reporter saying stop complaining about inflation. just stop talking about it. want your reaction to this. watch. >> there are americans who did extremely well in the last two years in the market. you still have your job. yeah, it is costing you more for gas, guess what, you will take the holiday, 4th of july vacation. you can still need out. i need you to calm down and back off, it feeds into this fear. >> i hear republican, oh, it is bidens policies led to the inflation. i know it's a lie. >> we have a very strong economy. unemployment is very low. consumer spending is increasing. but inflation is up, prices are up on almost everything and it is overshadowing a winning economy. how do you manage that? >> this economy moving in the right direction. it is not perfect. there are inflation concern here, but a lot of things to be very, very grateful for. elizabeth: byron, everyone stay quiet about the cost of

groceries, gas going up for blue-collar and middle class workers? everything is peachy keen. we put money into a shutdown that destroyed 22 million jobs, everyone should be okay with it? >> first of all inflation is terrible, it is having terrible effects on millions of people, even those whose salaries whose pay has gone up because inflation has gone up faster. there is no doubt it's a huge problem. i think what you just played was an example of a problem in journalism, not economics. journalism has changed tremendously in the past 20 or so years. a lot of local journalism has just died. newspapers, local papers that depended on local department store, local grocery store for advertising that is just gone. so what you're seeing a concentration of journalists, in new york, in washington, d.c., and when you have a concentration of journalists,

that is when you get group think. i think what we just saw was an example of that group think. elizabeth: get beltway henhouse echo chamber of everybody doing confirmation bias agreeing with each other, reading same "new york times" story standing in amen corner clapping with each other. google, facebook, ripped out the local newspapers, you know, content and didn't have to pay the overhead for those reporters, just sucked up the advertising. now you have pew research to your point, pew is saying majority of americans believe the media is so out of touch. 2/3 of journalists say they are reporting the news but only half the public agree with them. they don't trust them at all. media they think the public trusts them, the public says, no, we don't. >> most journalists think they're doing a pretty darn good job. people in the audience simply don't agree.

another thing going on for the last 15, 20 years, very detrimental to good journalism, the attack now contemptuously, both sides isism, there should be an idea journalists should strife to present both sides of a story, both sides of a story. there came to be belief among progressive journalists, some stories are not two sides. what are two sides on racism or on bigotry or hatred? and there is this idea that they simply should present only one side. that is all -- elizabeth: it is something bigger than that. it is the junior high feeling we run with the cool kids and cool crowd on msnbc or even the view. watch this. i didn't mean to interrupt you. i hear exactly what you're saying. i talk to d.c. media, new york media all the time. they're agreeing with you,

byron, they're agreeing with what they're talking about, what you're saying. i want to get to this. warrant your reaction to this. push back from joy behar from the white house press secretary saying the biden inherited a downturn. >> we see the economy in transition. see historic growth made. we're in transition to be in more stable, steady growth. that is how we believe we'll be able to fight inflation. elizabeth: she told "the view," that biden inherited a downturn. they didn't. we were in a v-shaped recovery. we were in energy independent. opportunity zones lifting minority communities. there was no pushback on that. >> watch a white house briefing there is not a lot of pushback every single day. you can't talk up a bad economy,

son's business. elizabeth: so the 150 suspicious transactions, that is u.s. banks red flagging that to the u.s. treasury, right? this is about overseas cash flows coming from foreign business dealings, say in china or russia going into these accounts. banks are saying whoa, what is the stuff? is that is what is going on? >> yes. there are huge payments. why they have been flagged. there is a national security implication potentially if joe biden had anything to do with any potential foreign adversaries his son hunter was doing business with. we need to get to the bottom of it. republicans take the lead, when we s&p hunter biden, if he doesn't show up, guess what? we'll hold him in contempt. elizabeth: are you guys seeing evidence that shows president biden did know all along what hunter biden was doing with his overseas business dealings and the shady characters overseas? are you seeing that evidence? >> well in some of the media reports we've seen over the last few weeks and months, over

80,000 text messages there is implication joe biden had some awareness, profited from, emails and text messages about hunter biden paying his father's bills. i consider that certainly a financial connection. did he violate election law or campaign finance law with that kind of connection, financial connection having his son pay his bills, especially if his son was doing any business with any foreign adversaries. we're talking about a national security risk. elizabeth: there is also evidence you're seeing, we're hearing, we've been reporting about the laptop emails suggesting that they were sharing bank accounts. are you seeing evidence, hunter and joe biden are way more entwined than we know about? >> that is one of the reasons we need to subpoena hunter biden and provide testimony to answer questions from members of congress, provide evidence or proof it did not happen. when you look at the paper trail here it is really something that americans ought to be aware

about and have answers to. elizabeth: so we know, excuse me from these reports from the text messages and emails on the laptop that hunter biden was covering the expenses for the biden family. he complained about it and also for his father. is there concerns that the president did not disclose these rather these bank accounts he was working hunter and he shared bank accounts when president was vice president did not disclose them on his financial disclosure forms? >> yes, that is the concern. if they were sharing bank accounts. if hunter biden was paying his father's bills, if he was benefiting from those businesses certainly financially that information should have been disclosed. we've seen this before with hillary clinton and in one of her foundations in the past. one of the reasons the american people hate congress and hate the federal government is their frustration when people are just not held accountable. if there are illegal business

dealings or illegal undue influences on president of the united states now or in the past, the american people ought to know that. elizabeth: so in other words, if the bank account, hunter has control, the question who controlled the bank accounts, right? who controlled the cash flows. >> right. elizabeth: who controlled the money coming in, even assets purchases with them, right? we don't know how it is being reported on the president's government financial disclosures forms, is that an issue that the republicans are now pursuing? >> certainly. who is paying joe biden's bills? what does all of that mean? was he entwined with these foreign businesses? were any foreign adversaries doing business with hunter biden? how did that have influence on joe biden himself. we've seen joe biden deny all these reports. now there are reports that there is a hollywood attorney beefed up protecting hunter biden and joe biden, who has hired 30 attorney and investigators to put out disinformation and protect hunter biden and joe biden. we want to get to the bottom of

the road, it's something american people don't want. opposition to this transcends political lines. i think it will backfire. elizabeth: political reports school board parents, parents are in his new swing votes. florida governor ron desantis getting blowback thing is not about indoctrination, it's about education so that's where that debate is. your reaction to that? >> parents are appalled after two years of schools being shut down, realizing what their children have not been learning. learning loss could be astonishing and rather than having schools focus on making up, let's be clear, proficiency want right before the pandemic. schools are focused on shoving the agenda down our children's throats. parents are angry for a number of reasons, met about the war, met about gender identification stuff, that about critical race

theory, they want their children to learn and be proficient and smart. when we raise those concerns, it's not only by media but elected officials and that's why people are coming out and i think we'll see a lot of people voting on this issue in november. elizabeth: we look through medical journals and there is concerned about the fallout for children when you talk about heavy-duty subjects they are not ready for, race and things like privilege, children are anxious, like by guilt, girls are really sensitive, small girls, sensitive how identity affects the status and academics, children don't have the majority and self-confidence to process all of this. let's watch bill maher. >> we are literally experimenting on children. cowboys and princesses at age eight. i wanted to be a pirate. thank god nobody took me seriously and scheduled me for like removal and peg leg surgery. elizabeth: that's pretty funny. your reaction? >> children are, of course. schools were shut down for two years and when they reopened, they were told they were bad people based on the characteristics like skin color and sex. it's no wonder children are sad. i'm not clear why they want to rip our children's innocence away. i think a better way to address this might be to teach children to learn, give them self-confidence, give them other than trying to enforce other things. elizabeth: more appropriate for college. in elementary school or even high school, they are not ready for it. you get into the debate about history and learn about the history so they don't repeat the bad stuff again but it feels like it's a matter of focusing where children are in their lives.
