11:00 eastern, wednesday, october 12th. we had hot inflation report first thing this morning, the market seems to be ignoring it, the dow is up 120, nasdaq down 13 points, they have been clobbered recently. alphabet and apple up about amazon, microsoft and meta down. the 10 year treasury yield is a problem for big tech going up, down a fraction now but earlier 395, 396 close to 4%. the subject of cognitive ability is back, difficult subject that has to be addressed. democrat john federman is running for the senate, had a stroke earlier this year which he described as a near-death experience. as he campaigns he has trouble with words, can't always follow

a conversation. and msnbc reporter interviewed federman this week. >> we had a monitor set up to read my questions, still has lingering auditory processing issues and some problems, challenges with speech in small talk prior to the interview before the closed captioning was up and running it seemed he had a hard time understanding our conversation. stuart: federman has agreed to only one debate and that will take place when mail in ballots have been received and he has demanded questions be written during the debate so he has time to process. doctor oz - dr. oz is crying foul. who decides if he is fit to serve? voters doing the same is true of president biden.

his cognitive ability has been questioned, he turned 80 next month and his handlers going to great lengths to avoid difficult media coverage. biden is not on the ballot this november but cognitive ability will play a role in the future of his presidency unlikely in the pennsylvania senate race too. third hour of varney starts right now. martha mccallum joins us now. this is a difficult subject are federman and president biden up to the job? >> the question is raised and handled effectively in the interview and i give her a lot of credit because she laid out, when we spoke before the interview before we turned on the readout on his computer he had a harder time communicating.

she's transparently reporting as any reporter should do, that before we turn on the device for him he had a hard time responding to questions. this is the kind of information voters need and as john federman has said they can decide for themselves clearly cognitive ability is important, what is going to happen if he goes to the senate? will he understand everything being said and be able to communicate his own thoughts about what is being said? it would be better if he had released the report from his doctors about where he stands in this process, no one is unsympathetic to what he has gone through but can you do the job? with regard to biden i agree with what jason chaffetz said, ages a number but ability is different, some can be in their 90s my work with world war ii veterans, some are 100, incredibly sharp and many i

you can see the race go to the candidate who put his focus on losing abortion rights in new york and he won that race, they are running against two people because of redistricting. i wonder if things have cooled a bit, and many people's rights have not changed at all, new york or illinois or california or many states across the country and people have an opportunity, like kansas, to vote and people in kansas voted and kept the abortion law, and whether it works or not the issue feels further away than it did in august. stuart: 8% inabortion, it over everything. >> those are things people tend to lean on and that is where the gop put their focus. stuart: the name of the show is

glean insight to consumer preferences, this shows consumers are losing excitement, less consumer enthusiasm and the sales data amazon has provided so far has shown they've seen not a single increase in sales over any random data so prime day is not working at all for the one right now. that is not a good read into the consumer. stuart: producer price index over 8% inflation the past 12 months, i call that negative but the market is up. >> i don't know what the market to do. the market thinks the fed is bluffing. i'm hearing the market loud and clear. the fed is going to continue hiking. they will not take their foot off the break, there will not be a pivot next year. stuart: that is a big statement, no pivot next year?
