6:48 pm
generating a boatload of co2 emissions. i was looking at the numbers. average person producesmetric tons of co2 for a year. one celebrity, won't tell you who it is, i won't tell you who it is, 3300 metric tons. it's a gigantic issue. the truth is there is a reason for sort of making fun of these people because they, they talk the talk but they sure don't walk the walk. elizabeth: sounds like democrats on their own are wiping out the paris climate accords. >> right. elizabeth: you know. liz, democrats are hitting the campaign trail driving gas cars as they order everyone else to buy electric cars. we're talking obama, biden, schumer. you know, the vice president. they're all in gas-powered cars. we have seen polls, half of voters do not want their states to follow california's law on banning new gas cars. we've seen other polls saying you know 90%, 95% of people want
6:49 pm
to keep their gas cars. >> look there, are a lot of reasons for this. number one, evs are still expense system. the taxpayer is subsidizing evs to the tune of $7500 or more in some instances. the truth they're still more expensive than gas-powered cars. if you line up the annual cost of running, driving an ev very as you gas-powered car and include that amortization if you will of the purchase price, guess which one is more expensive, liz? it is still the ev because it is so much more expensive of a purchase price. the other thing i think, there are two other problems. one is in rural areas there is no infrastructure really set up to accommodate what is still a pretty limited driving range for about 250 miles. so you know, there are a lot of parts of our country where it really isn't suitable yet to have an ev. now the administration is going to spend hundreds of billions of
6:50 pm
dollars to fix that but it isn't fixed yet. there are places in our country where it really doesn't make sense for people. the third thing is, everyone is pretty aware that the environmental argument for evs is not clear-cut. there is an awful lot of rare earths and minerals that are used in the production of evs that require very dirty and extensive mining. we don't do it in this country. why don't we? not because we don't have the minerals because it is so environmentally destructive. you know i think americans are kind of wary and guess what? people really don't like being told what they can and cannot do in america and i applaud that. i don't want to buy an ev. it is inconvenient. lay off. elizabeth: there is no such thing as zero emission or climate friendly electric car to your point. for now, the foreseeable future the energy to manufacture them and power them are going to come from the electric power grid
6:51 pm
which is powered by fossil fuels, 80% of that. so you know, lots of lithium and to your point metals mining in places like the congo using child slave labor to make those batteries, you know what i mean, liz? >> yeah. elizabeth: the voters are not being told the whole truth by democrats what it takes to could an electric car. final word. >> look in california they made this push, right? they're mandating it. the next thing we know you're not allowed your to charge your ev certain hours of the day and night because they're short on electricity. when gas prices surged it was more expensive. the argument is not clear-cut. i think we got a long way to go before the american people buy into this. elizabeth: got it. liz peek, good to see you. great writer. read liz's stuff, she is terrific. >> thanks so much, liz. elizabeth: on the off chance you might be in england next week be
