6:04 pm
i think we could. the interesting thing is, look, the zero covid policy is not working. it is obvious to everyone. and it involves huge costs and suffering for the chinese people. so a lot of them are just tired of it but the problem is the party cannot admit that it made a mistake you know. it is always that it is someone else's fault. so when protests break out, yes, they moderated the policies in some cities but they can't just correct it because that would dispel the myth of the ccp's wisdom and benign looking out for the people and so what do they do? they blame foreigners for instigating it, not unlike what they're doing in hong kong now where jimmy lai is going to trial and they're accusing him of leading a foreign plot.
6:05 pm
they can never admit that ordinary chinese people want freedom, don't like some of the policies and so forth. and that hurts them sometimes. jackie: joining the conversation as well is congresswoman claudia tenney from house foreign affairs. congresswoman, it is wonderful to have you and i was just asking bill about his thousand foot view what he is seeing happening in china right now but there is an additional element to this, there is the apple piece of it. apple does a lot of production in china. it has got component-makers based there as well, central to its business. it never really reorganized the business model the way some others chose to do. having said that apple talking about the it would, they are actually in practice limiting the airdrop function which is a way people share information and media on the ground in china. john kirby was on this

6:08 pm
outraged by apple's actions. >> yeah. china has exposed many hypocrisies as the congresswoman said. the nba, apple is quick to jump on causes in the u.s. that are woke because there is no cost but where there is a cost, or would be a cost, like in china, the nba, apple, a lot of other big companies are silent and complicit. but let's not forget, the real problem is the ccp. they're keeping their people down and this idea that china is this stable society it shows it is not true. you never know when something will break out because the people don't have ways to express their disagreement with things. jackie: yeah. >> so it is always a threat when it bursts out, the question is will it spread or will it fizzle

conquering and bringing down the united states and replacing the chinese communist party as the world power. not the chinese people who crave freedom. some have no option though. this is what we need to recognize in this country. they fray freedom. they need it. they need our support. the administration is weak on this issue. they need to stand up to the chinese protesters who are against the chinese communist party. they are not just against the lockdown. it is the communist party that is limiting these people. we need to give them a hope for freedom and that is an opportunity that could be missed if the administration doesn't act on this. jackie: it is. censorship, the tightness of the rule there, which is an excellent point. i will remind our viewers as well president trump wanted to ban tiktok. obviously it didn't happen. he was thinking trying to look ahead to see where this is going. i appreciate you both coming on the show. great to be with you tonight. thank you so much. >> thank you. >> thanks, jackie.
