twitter emails showing the dnc, the biden team got twitter to censor the hunter biden laptop story. twitter used the false claim of a hack when it had no such verification of a hack from law enforcement. hillary vaughn on capitol hill with more. hillary? >> reporter: good evening, liz. elon musk releasing a stash of internal company documents showing what led to not only hunter biden laptop story being censored and other accounts and tweets were banned at the request of political parties like the biden campaign in 2020. independent reporter matt taibbi who bottom the couples it was routine for high-profile celebs and biden campaign to request twitter take action against certain accounts saying this, by 2020 requests from requested actors to delete certain tweets. more review from the biden team, the reply would come back handled. the reporter noted both parties had access to this. in 2020 the trump white house

position, putting a fake news story on that would be harmful to a presidential candidate just a few days before the presidential election. so we knew this was out there. god bless elon musk becoming transparent bringing it to the attention of the american people. elizabeth: that is where the first amendment violation is. it is about fbi complicity. biden campaign, white house, president, hunter biden never denied the laptop was hunter biden's. the media has been downplaying it, not putting out naked pictures of hunter biden. that is not the story. >> right. elizabeth: the media authenticated hunter biden's laptop. you've been talking about garden-variety of corruption and joe biden and the biden family making millions of dollars selling the power and access of biden's u.s. government job with connections to china, russia, ukraine and more. that's the story. >> that is exactly the story and the investigation is an investigation of joe biden. the laptop just happens to be a significant part of the evidence. the reason joe biden, the biden

campaign, the democrat national committee and unfortunately the fbi were so concerned about the laptop is because of the contents of the laptop. the laptop proves that joe biden knew very well the shady business dealings that his son and brother were involved in. it also implies that joe biden was very involved and going to be a beneficiary of these shady business dealings, particularly the one with china. what is most concerning about the fbi coming to twitter saying that this is russian disinformation, is the fact that the fbi had the laptop a year before this happened because the computer repair guy turned it over long before the presidential campaign. so the fbi knew what they were telling facebook and twitter was a lie. elizabeth: okay so to your point, musk revealing twitter's internal emails, show them again, more to review from the biden team. the reply from the twitter team, quote, handled. we just checked.

another twitter from twitter executive yoel roth talks about the lessons of 2016. congressman what lessons of 2016, what is it? if twitter workers don't suppress or censor speech, someone they don't like might win the election, is that the story? >> i guess. i don't know if they were implying the hillary emails prior to the story, prior to the 2016 election where comey came out and said potentially they were being investigated, i don't know. the fact that the fbi continues to surface as a major story before presidential elections is wrong. elizabeth: okay. >> the fbi tried to you know, participate in both beneficial and unbeneficial to both the clinton and trump campaigns. so the fbi has got to stay out of these elections. there is no sign of them doing that. elizabeth: people saying this is the biden campaign. this is the fbi. this is where the first amendment violations are. it is the government dictating speech.

america's top former intelligence officials, you know you talked about this, they're mostly silent after they claimed this was russian disinformation without proof. the biden team just made that up. again you point out the fbi did have hunter biden's laptop. let's watch this msnbc guest admit twitter was tight with democrats more than republicans. watch this? >> what it does show, twitter had a close relationship with democrats, much closer relationship than with republicans and that is enough. elizabeth: it's not. it's a bigger story. congressman say on this for a second. it's a first amendment violation with the fbi got twitter to censor. twitter's top lawyer working on this was former fbi general counsel james baker. he was former fbi chief jim comey general counsel during the trump russian collusion fiasco. he was the main fbi contact for the hillary clinton campaign spreading falsehoods of trump campaign working with russia's

alfa bank. that was debunked. he approved the fisa wiretap to spy on the trump campaign. he was in charge of fbi grilling of michael flynn. now he is at twitter approving censorship. >> who would pay this guy? the amount of information they have gotten wrong shows incompetence, or worse, bias to the point he violated his trust as an attorney. this is something will not go away for him. we already pledged over the weekend every single employee of twitter that was involved in censoring the fbi story will come to testify. elizabeth: elvis chan, he leads the fbi san francisco office where social media is. he testified to the attorney generals of louisiana and missouri that the fbi held weekly meetings before the 2020 election about quote suppressing information. are you calling that guy in.

>> absolutely. we're paying close attention to that lawsuit. remember what elon musk disclosed over the weekend that was prior to biden becoming president. he has not gotten to the part over past two years where biden has been president. where the white house has been communicating with twitter to suppress conserve conservative speech and ban certain people that didn't agree with their left-wing agenda. this story will get worse for the biden administration. this will only get worse for the fbi. elizabeth: the hunter biden laptop revealed joe biden was deeply if debt in the early 2000s. he spent too much money. they put hunter biden out front to deals overseas in russia, ukraine, kazakhstan. to sell liquid national gas reserves out of five u.s. states to china. to your point the the biden camn is on the record attacking the press as far as back as 2019 saying to the press you have to stop reporting on hunter biden.

♪. elizabeth: welcome back. reports that hackers linked to the chinese government stole at least $20 million in u.s. covid relief from over a dozen states. now, the secret service reportedly warning this number is likely much bigger. that chinese hackers targeted all 50 states covid relief programs. we've got the government, the u.s. government cannot account for trillions of dollars in federal spending. gerri willis in new york with more. gerri? >> reporter: liz, when it comes to financial oversight by the government look only the little guys have their feet held to the fire. the irs warning its cracking down on individual taxpayers this year as it attempts to sniff out even small amounts of income earned from part-time work, side good, selling goods.

the threshold will be 600 bucks. receive that amount or more, you are required to report the income for tax purposes. filling out a 1099 form, getting paid via venmo, paypal that is no excuse as the government is requiring these apps to report those details. the pentagon is showing a complete lack of fiscal discipline, failing yet another audit, that is its fifth consecutive by the way, as congress is poised to approve the 84billion dollar -- 840 billion-dollar budget. the agency only accounted for 39% of 3.5 trillion in assets. that means $2.2 trillion has been left unaccounted for. liz? elizabeth: gerri willis, always terrific journalism, great reporting, thank you so much. joining us former white house deputy chief of staff karl rove and fox news contributor liz peek.

karl, reaction to the report, a private company, if the sec caught what the pentagon was doing they would put that company out of business. >> look, government accounting is almost an oxymoron and you know, apropos of your opening on this talking about the secret service announcing a foreign hacking group based in china, associated with the chinese communist party stole $20 million, think about this, the estimates from the government are that $80 billion of ppp money was stolen. that ninepy billion dollars of state unemployment funds were stolen and $80 billion from the covid disaster relief program was stolen and it took until march this year to appoint a special pandemic prosecutor to look at the things in a systemic way. we're talking about a quarter of a trillion dollars the federal government admits it believes it was stolen. coming across the stuff, in california and michigan, there have been actions already taken

against insiders inside the state departments of unemployment, the state workers' comp office, state unemployment offices who were feeding information to people in prison in order to help them get money illegally from these kind of covid relief programs. so we got a problem. elizabeth: it is breeding cynics out of people. americans don't want to be cynical, liz, you know what i mean? they're good people. americans are generous. they're good. i have full faith in the american people. what do you think, liz? now they want the irs to go after americans for 600-dollar venmo or paypal transactions to pay for that corruption? >> this puts that entire exercise under real scrutiny, doesn't it, liz? we're talking, as karl said, we're talking about amounts of money would fund significant government programs vanished into thin air. i read the story about the pentagon losing two trillion dollars. elizabeth: they can't account

for it. they don't have the paperwork. they can only account for 40% of their spending. they don't have paperwork for the rest. >> by the way, when we have a republicans questioning where some of the money going being shipped to ukraine you can understand why they are concerned. my guess is we have no idea where the money has been going. elizabeth: yeah. >> where is the money supposed to appropriate for infrastructure spending? i don't know. it is out of control. elizabeth: is money going to oligarchs over there in swiss bank accounts, karl? >> no. elizabeth: i hear what you're saying. >> we do know, we do know. most of that money is going to pay for goods and services that are provided here in the united states. we're not sending money over there to buy ammunition. we're buying the ammunition and sending ammunition over there. elizabeth: there has not been an audit. there has not been an audit on ukraine aid. hang on. let me finish. stay with me. the president of nigeria is now

denouncing the eu's new oil embargo and price cap on russian oil at $60 a barrel. russia saying it is basically it is going to ignore all of this. russia saying it may cut production to keep prices high and compensate for the lost of exports but we have no word on the white house whether it is going to expand u.s. energy production to fill that gap. edward lawrence is at the white house with more. edward? >> reporter: liz the fact is traders say russian oil is being sold under the price cap. this would be a revenue gain for russia. spokesperson for the chinese foreign ministry that china will maintain what it calls a relationship of mutual benefit with russia over oil. the chinese showing no signs of letting up their support of propping up the russian economy. former national security advisor for former president donald trump says a price cap won't work. national security advisor john kirby says the price cap can be adjusted. he also says the president's

gouging penalty on big oil. this is breaking news. >> yeah the mental gymnastics being performed at a level that is so high here, liz, i feel like he is going to take home all of the gold medals. i saw the breaking news, breaking tweet, said they're not going to be gas lit by oil companies keeping gas prices high. if i recall california's taxes are the second highest in the nation. they were the first one. they had a little tax holiday. they are adding on costs here. all of their policies are basically limiting supply that california is the leader in, that's what is causing these high prices. to turn this around to start saying we're adding penalties. it is perfectly absurd and perfectly california. elizabeth: california's governor, carol, is not saying how he will return that money to state taxpayers even if they see

any of that money, you know what i mean? there is no detail on that, carol. >> return the money? when have they ever returned the money on anything? they took the money from covid relief around the country, used it on pet projects. california, illinois, other small businesses and other employers will have to pay higher unemployment taxes because they took out the loans and took money so of course it is not going to go to anybody and make the average americans life better. they will continue to struggle. elizabeth: so a week after california announced, a few months ago it wants to get rid of all gas-powered cars, a week after that, they demanded people stop using electricity because of power outages and blackouts, right? >> yeah. no, it's amazing. a question of how is this going to work if you're going to have all of these electric cars, how are you going to power them? how will the grid handle them when you cannot handle the capacity right now?

and follow the plan, it works. elizabeth: okay, staying on this story, we've got more on twitter's internal documents showing censorship of the hunter widen laptop story and in a q&a on saturday is, twitter's new ceo,s elon musk, he is saying there are more smoking guns on the way. mike emmanuel is in washington with more on the story. >> reporter: liz, good evening. all indications are there will be plenty more from the twitter files. elon musk said he gave substack writer barry weiss access to the complete collection, so weiss is expected to do some reporting as is journalist matt taibbi, taibbi laid out round one in a lengthy tweet thread on friday. he wrote that twitter's posts and users were routinely removed at the request of a political party, noting democrats held more clout on that front due to political leanings of staff.

to make his case, he revealed this comment saying, quote: more to review from the biden team. another twitter employee responded, quote: handled these. during a saturday question and answer session, musk was asked if twitter colluded with the democratic party and biden's team before the 2020 election. this comes as prominent republicans are pledging oversight of biden family business dealings and more hearings on big tech. if the expected next chairman of house oversight says there's likely more to come. prominent republicans say this shows why the white house didn't want elon musk to own twitter, because now he's putting out the truth. liz? elizabeth: mike emmanuel, thank you so much for that great report. let's welcome heritage foundation can senior legal fellow hans von spakovsky. your reaction, hans. he's got more given to barry weiss at substack from elon musk. what do you think?

>> shocking but not surprising. in particular, the e-mails showing apparently coordination between the biden campaign and twitter. keep in mind that just last year the federal election commission dismissed a complaint filed against twitter claiming they had illegally coordinated with the campaign, and one of the main reasons for dismissing it was assurances from both the campaign and twitter that they had had no communications with each other. now that appears to not be true. the fec, obviously, in addition to the oversight by congress, they need to reopen their investigation. elizabeth: to your point, i mean, the biden white house, the president, hunter biden, nobody's ever denied that it is hunter biden's laptop -- >> right. elizabeth: -- and the fbi is working with social media and silicon valley to censor the story, that's where the first amendment violation is. the government can't move in to suppress if free speech, right?

>> no, they can't. no, i keep hearing people say that the first amendment doesn't apply to private companies. they're right. but if a private company's acting as an agent of the government, and all appearances here that hay may have been doing that, well, then the first amendment does apply to them. and keep in mind, liz, at the same time we've had these twitter disclosures we've also had disclosures from the lawsuit filed by missouri against the federal government, and we have now depositions, for example, from an fbi agent about weekly meetings between fbi and twitter or and other social media companies. elizabeth: yeah. we also have this elon musk now if says twitter personnel may have interfered in brazil's recent election to help left-wing candidate socialist candidate da silva. he won by just barely, 50.9%, there were protests in brazil

over that, right? and so there was allegations of widespread fraud. and now twitter -- you know, so there's, you know, hans, the media's silencing of the hunter biden laptop story, burying the damning revelations on friday night, not covering it, what'd you make of that? >> well, they clearly knew it could affect the election. polling since then shows that, in fact, if voters had known about this and the possible financial corruptionen engaged in -- corruption engaged in by, apparently, hunter biden and perhaps members of the family, that a hay might have changed their votes, and it might have affected the last presidential election. i guess we shouldn't be surprised that they now apparently have also been trying to interfere in the elections of other countries including brazil. elizabeth: you know, matt taibbi, the reporter who was posting about the twitter files, he's being attacked by the media as being, doing pr for a billionaire. he's saying he wants to see more of these reporters doing that,.
