intel committee, they're getting ade to take over the whole damn thing, releasing a new report on the origins of the krone various. and in it they claim the virus could have been chinese weapons, chinese bioweapons program. by now we all know the damage the virus has caused, millions do dead, economies destroyed, an entire generation of children damaged. but almost since the beginning, we've been told the virus likely came from a wet market. in wuhan. maybe from a bat or some other exotic dead animal. somehow it jumped to humans and spread like wildfire. anyone who suggested otherwise instantly canceled, bans from social -- banned from social media, called a crackpot. even the u.s. intelligence community claimed a lab leak was unlikely, but the republican report reads in part, quote: contrary to the implication of the intelligence community' -- committee's declassified report,

we conclude that there are indications that sars-ccov -- cr o v-2 may have spilled over to the human population during a lab-related incident at the wuhan institute of vie rolling, end quote. the report goes on to claim the i.c., intel community, dropped the ball. earlier told to ohio republican congressman brad went wenstrup -- wenstrup. explained why the committee launched medication. >> you can call it circumstantial evidence, but when it starts to mount up, you certainly have more and more questions that you need answered. look, we're not out to be vindictive towards anyone, but we certainly want to get the truth, and we want to have as much honesty and facts in front of us. can ken the report does not claim china intentionally released to covid. no one is saying that. but it's saying it's a

possibility that there was some kind of accident. will china ever pay a price? joining me now to discuss,s utah republican congressman, he is a member of the house intel committee, going to be much more here pretty soon, chris stewart is back. welcome back. thank you. >> great to be with you. kennedy: excellent. so it could have been part of chinese bioweapons program, how important is that to the origin story? >> well, it's very important for a lot of reasons. and, ken d i -- kennedy, let's start with this: did the i.c., the intelligence community, as you say, were they serious about actually trying to term the origins in and if we don't determine the origins, how are we supposed to preclude this from happening in the future? and i think a good example of that is an experience that we had, this was in april of 2020 so just a few months into the pandemic, we have the intelligence community before us, and we asked them about

this. they said, welk we've been able to genetically determine that this came from a natural source. and i came out of my chair. it was, like, how could you possibly make that claim especially at this point? remember, the first thing china did was destroy every one of the samples they had of the covid virus that they were working. they destroyed documents. they had some of hair researchers disappear. they denied access to the world health organization. and, kennedy, china should have preserved those samples. that would have proven -- kennedy: yeah. that would have exonerated them completely and also would have been very instructive to different countries, different parts of china what not to do in the future as not to to unleash another global pandemic if it happens that easily. the problem with that theory is they tested hundreds of thousands of samples from dead animals, and they have found no bridge. they have found no correlation. they have not found the thing

that caused the pandemic. but what they did have for quite some time before china admitted that this was really a problem, they had sick people. hay had sick people who had been exposed to people who had worked at the wuhan suit of vie rolling. and they had all of those -- virology. and they had all all of those sample, and they destroyed those as well. it would have been nice to go back several months from where we thought the starting point was, but now here we are. we don't have answers, we don't have samples, we don't have honest actor toes in terms of the health agencies who have been, you know, laundering and funneling money to do gain of function research in wu hanger so how do we keep this -- wuhan, so how do we keep this from if happening end again. >> there's a couple things. one of them is we've got to retask the cia and others and say you've got to go back and give us another report.

it's sr. clear that you've withheld evidence not only from the american people, but the intelligence community. imagine that happening, right? we've certainly seen that happen before. and the report that they released, look, it was not definitive at all. there was no con seven is us. in fact, they were -- consensus. in fact, they were very divided, and the things they said this might have come from a natural origin. they determined that with low confidence. in other words it's kind of like, well, maybe it did. again they were divided, and yet the narrative they put out is, well, this is what we think a happen. and they ignore their the own experts, no, it didn't come from a natural source. here's evidence that it came from the lab. and, look, you said something earlier, i don't think china intended for this to leak finis- kennedy: i don't either. >> i don't think they intended millions of people around the world to die, but that doesn't mean that they the still are not accountable for a mistake or for i greener juice security that we know took place at the wuhan

games. but for this soccer player, it could mean death. >> it's such a shocking story. as with any situation like this, of course we've got to acknowledge that there are many people in iran and elsewhere around the world -- heir not the only appalling, evil regime, but they're people in iran who are not famous, not well known, don't play in a national sport and, therefore, get discussed. but the value of it happening to someone like this who is prominent is that it ill i human nates what's going on and how many people have suffered at the hands of this, exactly as you said, despicable regime. and so we need to get engaged in. if you think about the level of engagement there is in an international event, for example, putin's invasion of ukraine which is despicable and evil, and we've said that many times and many one would say anything else in terms of the, what went on will and the human

rights abuse and so on. but it's going on in iran right now, and the scale of the response from from the is nothing like proportionate to what's going on. of and so i think we've got to engage, and we've got to do much more. for example, they've put some sanctions on the regime, but they haven't sanctioned the ayatollah, they haven't really made it hurt for them. just as with the chinese regime, the kids of this appalling regime are in universities in america and swarming around the and so on because they're total hypocrites as you often see with these regimes. we haven't done anything about that. there's a lot more pain that we could inflict on regime as well as supporting those incredibly brave revolutionaries. kennedy: yes. >> and i just don't think we're doing nearly enough. kennedy: no, and president obama says one of the regrets from his time as president does -- was he didn't do more to support the green revolution many 2014. >> exactly. kennedy: it seems like we're at a very unfortunate tipping

point, and my worry is that they will assassinate, they will execute this soccer player. >> yeah. kennedy: and, you know, what would that do to the movement? how would that galvanize the country? >> well, you see, the reason that they would do that is because they are so evil, they believe that that would have an intimidating effect. it would be a warning to everyone else. but the interesting thing, the encouraging thing about this round of protests compared to what we've seen before is it does seem much more nationwide. it started off with the response to masa amimi and what happened with the hijab, and it was -- you've seen women in the forefront of this revolution, but it's now i a generalized protest against the regime. that's really what it's turned into. and it's much more sustained than i think the anyone predicted. and i think they've got that kind of sense of this time we're not going to let it go. they're fighting incredibly bravely.

again, to make the comparison with ukraine, we talk all the time -- and rightly the -- about how bravely the ukrainians are fighting in the face of the horror inflicted on them in terms of the russian atrocities. but, you know, exactly the same applies to the iranian people, and we've got to support them as strongly as we're supporting the ukrainian people at moment. kennedy: yes, absolutely. there are men and women who are dying in that country for freedom, and her hoping -- and they are hoping that this is a point where everyone joins them and everyone stands up. because there are 28 people who are set for execution, 3 of them are children. one -- the soccer player is just one of hem. and they're doing that to scare people, but we're also hearing reports that there are people, this is a theocracy saying should we really be putting people to death in the name of god? you know, isn't there an immissit hypocrisy there the? --

implicit? and hopefully the moral, and not just the morality police, because they're pretty freaking evil, but, you know, the moralists within that regime, hopefully they will have some voice. >> well, i think that the uprising is very, very deeply rooted, and i think that they -- it's a despised regime. it's seen as an occupying force in iran. and i think that there's no legitimacy whatsoever. that's why they have to rule in this way as all regimes of this type do in the end. they've completely lost. there's no trust, there's no support from the people. i think it feels different time from the previous potential revolutions, but it's going to peter outwe don't support them. and that's what we have to do. we're talking about it tonight, that's fantastic, but we've got to really kind of ramp up the pressure on regime from the outside in order to help them buckle, because i don't think the iranian people are boeing to buckle. but, you know, they can't go on

drink as much as i can because it's prix, and the other is, wow, i could say something really dumb and get in trouble at work. where do you stand on the booze rule at the company party? >> yeah, it can be a trap. don't do it. kennedy: great point. >> yeah, there's no reason, you know, if you need a drink so much that you don't have enough money to pay for yourself to have a drink or two when you want one, that the only time you can really tear it up at your company party, then you need to take a look at some of the other decisions in your life that led you to that point where that's what you're going to do because it's not worth it. it's not worth it even if you don't get fired, you spend the whole next day with all anxiety, maybe i shouldn't have told the ceo of my company that thing that -- you're not going to make a decision. kennedy: should you approach the boss at the company party? >> if they approach you, if they look at you, say hi, but don't stand there and talk them into a wall, you know? remember heir your boss.
