fargo, north dakota. sometimes your face feels like you can't talk about the windchill is around-28 °. absolutely frigid. when you take a breath it feels like your lungs are filled with ice water, you feel needles on your face, incredibly chilly and believe it or not, some places in north dakota are colder, feels like temperatures in the negative 30s. in montana we are talking-60 as the windchill. on the plains, the reason the feels like temperature is so low, even with the little bit of wind, which whips across the plains, the temperature, a little bit of wind can leak away any heat you may have. we are talking about snow in north dakota, not a ton of snow, 2 to 4 inches is expected to fall with this storm that is making travel trickey on the
1:03 pm
interstate, advisories in north dakota, some other travel advisories issued for slick roads. we saw ice on the roadways. officials warning folks to take it easy, take it slow. if you are flying, good luck. neil: it is 72 ° in the studio. i'm very warm and toasty. you are a trooper. don't know where you can run to. max gordon, just to go through all of that. following the flights that are delayed across the country, in atlanta, this is happening in airports across the country particularly seattle. >> reporter: there are some delays in the pacific northwest.
1:04 pm
because everything is interrelated, if you are traveling to warm climate places, if your plane is somewhere in the midwest, you could face delays as we go later into the week. as we keep nervous i on this winter storm we could expect travel delays potentially affecting millions of americans thursday and friday as aaa forecasts one hundred 13 million americans travel 50 miles or more away from their homes, 3% increase, approaching pre-pandemic levels. several airlines including atlanta-based delta are preempting the be waiving change fees for travelers traveling through potentially affected airports. >> it is important to make sure you are getting to the airport early. i know in the past we talked about being early, you may want to look at getting there 3 hours earlier.
1:05 pm
>> reporter: facemasks remain optional, and people wear them voluntarily. >> checks against covid 19 and others, and their back to wearing masks in any space, any indoor space. >> reporter: for those hitting the road gas prices continue to drop. pay attention to the weather forecast, and in the midwest, and great lakes regions later this week which could receive heavy amounts of snow the next couple days and those traveling by air, the tsa predicts we are close to pre-pandemic levels, the busiest travel days for air
1:06 pm
travelers, tomorrow will be one of them and also friday, december 30th. back to you. neil: the rush is on. what happens if you are at an airport and your flight is canceled and you scramble, what to do about that, adjust your plans, mark murphy is the travel expert, he is the guy you want to follow rather than saying what are you booking? >> unless i'm looking for my uber outside. neil: good luck with that. how do you advise people? you had thousands of flights canceled or delayed. this always happens with weather, what happens -- what's the best general advice? >> reporter: before you get in r to go to the airport, look at the inbound flight or your departing flight but most airlines show you where your inbound plane is coming from. the biggest issue, in an area
1:07 pm
where it is hit with bad weather but your plane might be coming from one of the areas that has been delayed and won't show up. that you are going to the airport as if you are on time and the challenge you will have is basically coordinating that and making sure it is on time. what i suggest people do is you get there early, the weather and impact on flight delays has nothing to do with what happens with tsa. what the delays are at security once you get to the airport. in terms of arriving, a reasonable time to catch your flight. if your flight did get canceled, send a quick text and travel agents on the job, get booked somewhere and ideally because traveling around the holidays you will see family or go on vacation you want to make
1:08 pm
sure the message gets through and they get you through different airports. neil: you find your flight is changed or canceled, you go to the ticket agent or have your smart phone what do you do? >> you do multiple things. if there is a person that can help you in person and you get up to that person quickly, do that. if you're in line waiting, get out the airline apps, look at google flights on your web browser on your phone and see if you can get a different airline to get you there because guaranteed you get a refund if your plane is canceled and you are not able to go, they have to refund you the money. the problem, it depends on the airline and how long you are delayed for, what is considered reasonable and no one knows what the answer to that is. your guess is as good as any when it comes to an actual delay and what you can do to
1:09 pm
get out of that ticket and began your way. maybe with another airline or another airport because if you are in a regional area, the new york city area you have multiple airline choices to get out. neil: what about connecting flights. a lot of people are trying to make it to their connecting city, chicago, you would be in trouble. you might prefer the one that is in the southern city, at least a chance of getting to the next one. >> you nailed it on the head, depending on the time of year, you want to avoid denver connections and chicago connections, sometimes in the summer you have to deal with things like in dallas with crazy thunderstorms and tornadoes so you got to be aware of that in those geographic areas, that is a good tip. the best is avoid connections
1:10 pm
altogether and that way you don't have to worry about making that connection but you will pay a premium that you're happy to pay if your connection gets canceled and you get stuck in a layover city. at the end of the day there's nothing the airline is required to do by law to accommodate you in every case. neil: i worry when they run out of personnel and are not showing up and that has happened a number of times. it was a problem last summer. >> it has gotten better, but still having issues, the airlines aggressively hiring people so that has gotten a little bit better but that's always an overhang because you want to minimize those costs and keep to those tight schedules. something we talked about in the past, when you have a cancellation it is not just that day, you have a domino effect that goes on an average of 72 hours depending when the storm ends, could take 72 hours

to clear out the back log. always have a plan b to get where you want to be when it comes to important holiday. lauren: 20 if you are an example of clancy, you know of what you speak, have a merry christmas. >> you too. neil: not only are people delayed your christmas packages could get delayed. they give you email notices and about the item you ordered, won't be in before christmas. lydia is following it in new jersey. >> reporter: we are at a facility run by dhl e-commerce solutions. you can see the team here working across this huge warehouse, they are extremely busy because they had package volume exceeded expectations for the holiday season by 15% but here they are busy during this holiday, actually over
1:12 pm
because they needed to have packages in hand by monday in order to guarantee delivery under the christmas tree but before this weekend so their focus is delivering the packages they had. in order to do that with the severe weather sweeping the country they are ready to move package volume from impact the dissertation centers to others not impacted by the severe weather to make sure operations keep running but it is something they are keeping an eye on even though they've not had to do that yet. watch this. >> it has come to this point. you might want a backup gift just in case. >> reporter: if you're planning to send the package by mail, some important dates to keep track of. fedex needs a package today if you are running today freight to make sure it is delivered ahead of the holiday. the cut off for the postal service is friday for delivery by priority mail express.
1:13 pm
and a package to deliver by christmas eve with second day air service but we need to know they already noting there are service interruptions in places like north dakota, south dakota, nebraska, fedex adding this morning the projected forecast in severe weather as it is inspected to impact memphis and annapolis, that has potential to have a ripple effect across the entire system so delays are possible as we track the severe weather. have plan b because it seems some packages may not make it under the christmas tree. neil: the conveyor belt thing behind you, the packages that get dropped off, pick them up, what they look at. >> i did see one that said neil cavuto and i kicked it off the ledge.

1:35 pm

in a messy broken world, one individual right now, spent some time, lost his job, losing his marriage and i reminded him of the providence of god's love, god cares for him even in those very low moments. to not get defined by the moment he was living and try to cast his mind and heart on those things. i know that seems somewhat ethereal talking about real things 30 minutes ago and now we are talking of things for some people hard to get their head around but as you know, this week not just thousands, tens of thousands, millions, billions of people will be drawn to this ancient story i believe is true, they are drawn
1:38 pm
to it because they want to have those broken places comforted, those places where there is fear, anxiety smooth it away with the peace of god. i do believe that is why it is so important that people do return to their pews, a lot of people doing church on their phones and that has been good for some people who can't get out and many need to be to gather and also that will do a lot to take away from the divisiveness in our culture particularly -- neil: i think you are right. good chatting with you. the fox news channel. russ levinson, i've had the pleasure of being in a packed church when he speaks, everyone is listening. you and i were so lucky. more after this.

one of the things i learned from this drama with elon musk is he is open to another ceo, looking for another ceo, he is confusing people. what do you think of the fallout for him and his reputation in light of this. >> it is too soon to meditate on that question. the right question is what is the path forward for twitter itself? the question of whether there is a new ceo matters less because this is still a platform principally owned by one man and the ceo is different than the ceo of a public company. the thing elon musk needs to get a right, for content moderation. when he bought the platform, it has been in some ways, that is really the elephant in the room. he would do well to articulate

first principles of what it means to operator free-speech platform so he is not second-guessed as he makes a decision for banning are not banning certain content. once he gets that right, running the business becomes easier and new ceo or not that is what this business needs to get right and if he does get that right, that election will be positive for the legacy of free-speech platform. neil: the first thing, to change the environment, for steve jobs to upend the technology, going back to winston churchill, this bigger than life figure, not the obvious one. it is obvious looking at elon musk, the track record speaks for itself but to follow is to have a bumpy ride. do you think the whole twitter experience has thinned him to
