gone. we need that now before we pass another $47 billion to ukraine. elizabeth: what the congresswoman had, they had the special inspector general for afghanistan spending but we have a massive 4100 page big bang spending bill congress won't fully raid, americans pay for in higher taxes, higher inflation, higher interest rates grover. >> of course the bill is over 4100 pages long. there is another 2600 pages of explanation of what that means. that is where all the earmarks are stuck in, the explanation part. this is poorly done. i mean it is all thrown together. it is heart to focus on any one piece of it. almost as if it was on purpose to make it difficult to find out what was going on, who was getting what. i would strongly recommend we bring back a committee we used to have in the united states, an anti-appropriations committee. it was put in during

world war ii to recommend budget reductions. they would put it on the floor of the house and senate and billions of dollars was cut while we were fighting world war ii and into the '50s in order to save money so that you could put it into defense. they seriously reduced spending because they had a whole committee whose job where we could save money. time to bring the anti-appropriations committee back. elizabeth: that is interesting. we hear you. gop lawmakers to grover's point, congresswoman, seems like the gop is divided, has divided messaging on this new blowout government spending. watch this fight, watch. >> before the election i explained to everybody, no more blank checks for ukraine. we want to make sure where the money is spent. they're passing, trying to pass this where nobody can read it. they never moved the bills to the light of day. they never had a hearing in the process. >> let's step back to say what are the real needs of the country right now?

they're in the defense part of our expenditures, making sure that the defense department can deal with the major threats coming from russia and china, providing assistance for ukrainians, to defeat the russians. that's the number one priority of the united states right now, according to most republicans. that is sort of how we see the challenges confronting the country at the moment. i'm pretty proud of the fact that with a democratic president and a democratic house and democratic senate we were able to achieve through this omnibus spending bill essentially all of our priorities. >> the american people don't want this. they're sick and tired of it. they're paying for it through the nose with inflation, adding a trillion dollars to the deficit will simply fuel the fires that are consuming our

wages an consuming our retirement plans. elizabeth: congresswoman, why is senator mcconnell saying the number one issue facing americans is ukraine, when voter polls in the midterms that voters show number one issue economy inflation and crime on the border? your reaction? >> i can't speak for senator mcconnell but what i can tell you folks back home are concerned about making rent. they're concerned about the fact they're behind on their utility bills. more than $16 billion is owed in utility bills alone. i represent a district that is rural and senior population on fixed income. concerns of my district along with many others here in the united states is issues here domestically. elizabeth: do your voters care about ukraine? >> no. everybody again, collectively we feel in our hearts this is an unjustified, unprovoked war. our hearts break for the people of ukraine but we cannot be funding both sides of this war. we just saw the biden regime release the "merchant of death"

independent, go to that party, this 600-dollar threshold for venmo and paypal apps transactions, grover this is a reporting nightmare for americans. now there is a push to raise it to 10,000. you know what i mean? what is with all the paperwork? what are democrats doing here? >> okay. what the democrats did was say if you get $600 in the course of a year through paypal or venmo or any of the various areas, ebay, so on, that the company is going to send it to the irs that you got $600 or $700, whatever it is. you have to prove it is not income. maybe you were splitting rent. maybe sending money back and forth between family members. any number of things. or you sold an old motorcycle that cost you twice as much as what you sold it for. but unless you have the receipts for all of the things that you're selling at some point, you're going to be hit with a

elizabeth: former president trump's tax returns, they're set to be made public after the democrat controlled house ways and means voted along party lines to release them. now fox news mark meredith is in washington with more on this story. mark? >> reporter: good evening, liz. for nearly four years house democrats tried to get ahold of former president trump's tax returns. now they got them. within day as redacted version of those returns are expected to be made public. tuesday house ways and means committee released a report much of what lawmakers already learned, specifically how much trump paid from 2015 through 2020. the report says claiming steep business losses he was often able to avoid a hefty tax bill. the amount of taxes paid varies quite a bit by year. 641,000 paid in 2015. by 2020 it appears trump didn't have to pay any federal income tax. the irs has a long-standing

policy auditing every president in office. they say irs did not examine trump's taxes until 2019. well into his term. the house republicans say this is political stunt and believe the irs is being weaponized for political purpose. >> our worry this will launch a dangerous new era, a new political background, fangly for politics, gets more divisive, more painful, i think more disheartening. >> reporter: when the returns will be officially released, no firm timeline yet. lawmakers say it is a matter of days. democrats say delay is necessary so they take steps to redact personal information like pin numbers or social security numbers tied to the return. >> terrific story, mark meredith. always terrific reporting. congressman greg murphy from house ways and means. doctor, good to see you on again. you're part of a group of gop

lawmakers that warned against setting a terrible precedent on this. why? >> because now they have a private citizen's tax returns out in the public. the issue here is these tax returns are not without any chance to clarify or explain any of the deductions or anything and what it does further is, now they're witch-hunt is complete. they did what they set out to do under the guise we want to make sure the audit process for presidents is intact. they got what they wanted. they want to put a private citizen's tax returns out for the public to see. elizabeth: this is between a constitutional right to privacy versus this irs provision that lets the ways and means and tax writing committees get tax information for legitimate legislative purposes, to assist writing tax laws. that his returns were needed to evaluate the irs's audit program for presidents. the is is required under its own rules to audit each sitting president's tax returns. i mean the d.c. court of appeals ruled this was constitutional.

the u.s. supreme court upheld it. it is really constitutional fight over privacy, sir, right? >> absolutely. there is no reason, no logical reason that a private citizen's tax returns needed to be sent out to the public, especially, especially when there is no chance of clarification or explanation. gather this, you know, the democrats said they want to look at the presidential audit process, great. i have no problem with that whatsoever but how come we didn't get obama's tax returns? how come we didn't get biden's tax returns. they were released but not audited out into the public. this is not a fair issue. this is not the way they play fair. it's a witch-hunt. they have succeeded again. elizabeth: we've got news coming in, senators tim kaine, dick durbin, democrat chris murphy, richard blumenthal say there is a high bar to prosecuting trump. that the senate democrats may be against prosecuting trump based on the criminal referral out of the january 6th committee out of the house. there is that fight too. there is this fight.

let's get more from gop lawmaker kevin brady on trump's tax return fight. watch this. >> going forward the majority chairman of the house ways and means committee and the senate finance committee will have nearly unlimited power to target and make public the tax returns of private citizens and not just private citizens, political enemies, business and labor leaders, or even the returns of supreme court justices themselves. no party in congress should have that power. no individuals in congress should have that power. it's a power to embarass, to harass, or destroy americans through disclosure of their tax returns. elizabeth: i mean is that slippery slope what kevin brady, congressman details, is that a serious threat? >> absolutely. it is absolutely a ser threat. you know here, you have a private citizen who has had his tax returns sent out to the

public. as he stated the chairman of the ways and means committee which i'm a member has ultimate authority on whose tax returns, private citizen or what, regardless of their role is exposed to the public eye. that is absolutely something that could be abused. so yes, this is a horrible slippery slope. elizabeth: republicans are saying could it lead to nancy pelosi releasing her own tax returns? there is a big problem right now inside of congress. major conflicts of interest. nancy pelosi ran out the clock on a ban on congress's stock trading in the new spending bill, despite a bipartisan push to do that. her husband does stock trading while on the job. there are all sort of angles here. trump repeatedly claimed in office his returns were under irs audits justified no saying release of returns. democrats finding he was not audited in 2017 and 2018. so there is so many angles here. it really comes down to how you

you're weak on crime democrat policies let crime and drug use get so out of control. one business told the "san francisco chronicle" they spent $300,000 a year on private security to get rid of drug dealers, people high on drugs in their neighborhood. >> good for them. good for these business owners to step up and advocate for themselves, because those woke politicians in those communities, they defunded their police departments and they abdicated their basic responsibility to the public which is to provide safety. so damn right these business owners should be asking for their money back because these politicians didn't do what they should be doing. as a result they have open-air drug markets in front of their business. they have people shooting up in front of, defecating in front of their business. if you own a business in san francisco right now would you want to pony up your tax dollars? of course not. the politicians are not doing their job. elizabeth: maybe this will take hold, catch fire what these businesses are doing. joe, you pointed this out too,

five dozen police officers killed in the line of duty this year. that's a disgrace. now we have non-profits in liberal billionaire george soros' open society foundation network spent at least $35 million on anti-police groups doing things like demanding defund the police, even funding databases to track donations to police department foundations. why are they trying to track who gave to police foundations? >> yeah. they want to track people so they ultimately intimidate them. just like some groups that george soros funded including black lives matter groups calling for lives of police officers in the streets. we had to deal with all of that rhetoric. we had 323 police officers shot already this year. officer deaths by gunfire are up by 28%. it is open season on police officers in this country and tell you just speaking for the 800,000 police officers across this country, we're sick of it. you know what? we've got president biden doing a press conference on the war in ukraine today. how about we do a press

elizabeth: okay the twitter files indicate the fbi used taxpayer money to pay twitter lot of money actually, to do things like sensor tweets all that is a first amendment violation critics say. fox news lucas tomlinson with more in washington. >> reporter: liz, the fbi says it paid twitter $3.5 million, money critics say was used to suppress information including the "new york post" hunter biden laptop story. the fbi tells fox the payments were part of routine reimbursements for twitter complying with standard legal requests. the payments were first revealed in author michael shellenberger reporting as part of the so-called twitter files, revealing a close working relationship between the fbi and the social media giant. i'm happy to report we have collected $3,415,323 since october 2019 reports an associate of jim baker, in early 2021.

baker, twitter's former deputy general counsel, before that the top fbi lawyer, was fired by elon musk for his alleged role in suppressing information. in a statement to fox news the fbi says quote, the correspondence between the fbi and twitter show nothing more than examples of our traditional, long-standing and ongoing federal government and private sector engagement. it is unfortunate that conspiracy theorists and others are feeding the american public misinformation with the sole purpose of attempting to discredit the agency. republican congressman jim comer says he wants to withhold funding to the fbi until the gop house majority can hold heres next year. >> one way we get the fbi in front of the committee really quick i, saying we're not giving you a penny until you all come down here to explain to us what this task force was, why you told twitter to suppress the hunter biden laptop story when you knew darn well it was true? >> reporter: fbi officials claim they did not provide twitter with any specific instructions

or details regarding the hunter biden laptop story. liz? elizabeth: lucas tomlinson, great reporting as always. great to see you, my friend. welcome to the white house former white house advisor mercedes schlapp. good to see you again and merry christmas. what is your reaction to that report? fbi doesn't deny they're paying that money. they say they pay other social media too. what do you think? >> merry christmas, liz. it is very disturbing to watch the lack of transparency coming out of the fbi bill. based on what we're reading about in these twitter files, it is very clear that the fbi was colluding with these twitter executives, many cases giving a classified briefing, talking about the hunter biden laptop as if it was russian misinformation. which we know is not accurate. so i think what has happened now, even based on the fbi's response, is the fact that they have more questions to answer right now and it's why you're

going to see this house of representatives with this republican majority investigate, ask the questions to the fbi of how they themselves were involved in censoring not only the story of the hunter laptop which obviously we know could have impacted the election but also censoring conservatives. it raises an enormous amount of questions which i think the fbi is responsible to answer. elizabeth: you know to your point the fbi was putting so much pressure on twitter staff to do things like censorship. this is according to twitter emails, that twitter workers said it felt like they were dealing with a quote, congressional committee. i mean the twitter files say the fbi was even asking them to sensor jokes. to your point the fbi had possession of the laptop 10 or 11 months prior to the "new york post" breaking. hadn't said a word about it. yet 80 fbi agents working with twitter to do things like sensor this as russian disinformation? >> yeah. and they would go after these,

these individuals with twitter accounts that had very low followers, number of followers or even like a billy baldwin, where you have to ask yourself what were they actually looking for? it shows how the fbi focused on what i find to be this pressure on twitter and collaborating with twitter on censoring you know, conservatives and this election conversation that was happening, but not focusing on the real threats of terrorism in our country, and things that really should be their primary focus but we've seen time and time again how the fbi political leadership in particular, how they have continued to go down these rabbit holes, for example, with the russian collusion that never happened or the steele dossier. elizabeth: yeah. >> it seems to be that their lack of judgment i think is something that is very telling. elizabeth: watch the "new york post" miranda devine on this. watch this. >> i think this is the most
