>> is starting to feel like christmas. a few hours away, 10:00 in the
10:01 am
morning on the east coast. let's get to your money and look at the 10 year treasury yield. it is up and rising, we are seeing of the highest at 3.729%, the highest -- oil also up in a big way, up for the past three weeks, $79.84, 3%, big russia supply, big storms, bitcoin 16,018. an upcoming book about president biden's white house reveals ron lane privately lamented that americans were more concerned about high gas prices the new infrastructure. he said, quote, the most frustrating part is we are in this morass on capitol hill, no margin for error and it subsets so much of our time and energy and political drama and it is an important agenda. it is an agenda we have to fight for, and agenda we
10:02 am
believe in and in the long run it matters a lot but right now people wish we were more focused on gas prices and hamburger prices than whether or not we are going to build bridges or have free pre-k. tammy bruce, the white house is not concerned with the here and now. our president -- >> explains so much. little bubble after little plans, some kind of seminar, university where they have grand ideas, this marxist utopia wish fantasy and the dumb american people compare about cost of food, which they feed their children, they eat fast food, what protein can i get my kid and they have to think about hamburgers because they can't afford chicken or anything else or an actual steak and the gas prices, god forbid, should you have to get to work and don't have a driver and have to pay for it your self. this is why we got trump, it is
10:03 am
why the american people, there's a legitimacy problem with the government, why there are so many problems. it's not just rhetoric to say there is a disconnect between washington and the american people. it is like a divorce is looking at us and making decisions. this may be -- that explains. >> it puts the real priorities, the senate passed the bill, $1.7 trillion worth with the support of 18 republican lawmakers. the house will vote on that today. why is mitch mcconnell caving in to the democrats demands? don't tell me military spending. >> it can't be. this bill is three times longer than the novel war and peace. nobody read it. but staff and everybody, this didn't get written in a week. this has been worked on clearly
10:04 am
for months. the republicans have known, have to have known what is in it. mitch mcconnell behaves as if he knows what is in and he is fine with it. i don't know how many republicans, 18, so were a good chunk of the usual suspects. when they said we were going to go back to normal they weren't kidding. stuff passing on christmas week, what happened with obamacare. this is new or the democrats or mitch mcconnell, i worry that if people didn't like trump and he was a response to this craziness, what is coming next? because this cannot continue, literally because of the economy and the spending. lauren: should they shut the government down? >> they shut it down when trump wanted $5 billion which seems like chump change, that stopped
10:05 am
the government entirely. the theater of this is a remarkable. i can't stress that enough. this is a dance, it is kabuki theater, it is a distraction and it is what they do and who is affected, people who need to buy hamburgers and get gas and they are laughing at us. that's the problem. lauren: republicans are complicit, senator shelby of the university of alabama practically named after him, $666 million in earmarks. >> it is her markable damage. it is woke stuff, the mob, getting millions and millions, forget the trails and all of that. this is about equity, education, climate change education, all the things that are driving this country into the ground and endangering generation after generation, no longer can you say it is some woke fringe mob. it is the federal government
10:06 am
now paying for this through the institutions. this can't -- we literally can't withstand this. when it comes to culturally, socially, economically, the people doing this, tens, hundreds of millions of dollars, they don't notice these problems, we notice them and -- >> they don't notice that they can't put a book -- democrats are saying this is a problem. >> not just that they don't put it toward security, the money they do -- to facilitate what is going on and there is a specific admonition against using it for security. they thought about it and said don't do it. this, by design, the establishment, what we talked about for years. the swamp as it was termed, they learned nothing.
10:07 am
the american people, set a statement for the midterms, mitch mcconnell and the senate republicans seemed to not care how we handled it but the republicans in the house have to be creative and at least try and they can't just blame it on the senate. we will notice and that is the next thing. lauren: thank you. happy holidays. we did get on this christmas eve friday new data. a lot of economic data coming in, new-home sales, the number stronger than expected, 640,000 new homes, seasonally adjusted annual rate, that was for the month of november. it was a surprise increase. this was the fourth housing report this weekend the only one that was better than expected. next case a new performance review system, employees at risk for lower performance ratings that would start in the new year.
10:08 am
6% of full-time employees falling to that lower category, that would put them at higher risk for corrective action. this is up from just 2% before the overhaul of the process. it would be hard to achieve high marks, 22% of employees within one of the 2 highest categories. that is what google is doing. now this. we went from meandering flat to down substantially, the doubt is negative for the wii, down one hundred 40 points, the s&p down 17 in the nasdaq, 1%. dr barton joins us now. i will say merry christmas to you. having said that, santa claus rally, are we going to get it? now is the time. >> now is the time. now is the time that we need it. and historically we are going to get it. if you look back over the last 50 years or more, we have seen
10:09 am
the peak get that santa claus rally after santa comes down the chimney so starting next week, starting next tuesday we get the santa claus rally into the first two days of the new year, 77, almost 78% of the time, the past two decades, it is still holding fast. have 8 years in the last 10 years, 8 years up the year before that, 80%, it is a seasonal trend that is likely to continue to happen. what comes after that is more shaky. lauren: consumers are feeling more optimistic, university of michigan consumer sentiment just got it, a recent read stronger than expected, we keep seeing inflation coming down. i know not enough but how we think about inflation, how we feel about inflation, 5 years out, that came down.
10:10 am
all of this is in the right direction yet the market is down because the federal reserve will keep going with right rate hikes. >> the pce number that came out this morning was a little bit better than we expected so again, good news can be interpreted a little badly and that is what i think the market is doing right now, hoping for the fed to put on the brakes a little early, this morning's number along with the consumer sentiment number you are talking about, giving the fed more of a pause but overall it is good. gas prices in the consumer pocket right now so for the shorter-term i think we are doing okay going into the new year. lauren: inflation is still a problem. is that why you like dollar general? is that why you get more for dollar and $0.25? >> absolutely.
10:11 am
dollar tree, dollar general a little broader offering, they have been really well-run and i think the defensive plays, with the tiniest of dividends are better place to be than most others until we get some reduction in this volatility. dollar general hasn't been bouncing around as much and near the top of the page for quite some time. pretty well-run franchise. lauren: good to see you, merry christmas, happy holidays. airlines, got to talk about the airlines, powerful winter storm threatening to mess up a lot of people's holidays and you can see the airlines are in the red as thousands of flights have been delayed or canceled altogether. 3500 canceled today alone, 10:00 in the morning on the east coast, fedex warning customers to expect potential
10:12 am
delays for package deliveries as this winter storm continues to affect the roads and their commutes, amc extending their selloff in a way that the stock split again, the stock is down 6. 5%. and now this. analysts at wells fargo predicted disney will drop espn late next year. it has been talked about for a while but bob iger is back in the head seat and they will focus on content and with that, cost rationalization while spinning off espn and abc, this is one of the big changes bob iger said he would make with his return to the ceo position. now this. senator kirsten sinema under scrutiny after a former staffer revealed a 37 page guide she allegedly gave to her, we will begin to the defendant's lengthy come into the independent's lengthy list of
