stuart: don't rain on my parade, barbra streisand. good morning, everyone, 10:00 eastern, straight to the money on this one. first of all the dow up 41 points, nasdaq up 7, not much of a rebound. the tenure treasury yield, where is that this morning? moving down, 3.67%. oil down and sharply so, $74 a barrel, that's where we are. we haven't looked at bitcoin, why bother, still at $16,800. that's the markets. that's the markets, now this. we just got the latest read on jolts, an important number, how many jobs are going begging good, but is the number? lauren: 10.458 million jobs

open on the last day of the month of november, that rose from the october number, 6 million people are unemployed so if you do the math, 10. 4 million jobs open 6 million unemployed. stuart: the labor market is actually pretty strong. all these jobs are being offered and not being taken up, that's a strong labor market still which is not good for the federal reserve. one more story for you, one more number, the manufacturing sector. lauren: contracting for the second month in a row for december, number 48. 4. anything under 50 years contraction, this was worse than expected so that is your double whammy of data on this wednesday morning, markets to let. stuart: doesn't look like much of a reaction on the market to either the jobs number or the manufacturing sector so there you have a, still up one hundred for the dow, that's the markets and now this. my colleague brian kilmeade had a good analogy about the

speaker election fiasco. he said it's like going into the locker room to decide who would the captain of the team, there's a fight, they can't decide who is to lead the team onto the field the game can't start until the team has a captain. that is exactly where the republican team stands right now, they are fighting each other, they don't have a captain so there's no legislation, no debate, can't even swear in new members, the democrats are treating it like a comedy movie, they have broken out the popcorn and why not, they are laughing at them. 2 hours from now they will try again to elect a speaker. that had 18 hours to huddle and horse trade, the man who wants the job, kevin mccarthy sent representatives to the 20 republicans who voted for someone else trying to turn them around, don't know if they had any success, marketers says he's not stopping the balloting until he wins. the holdouts are making impossible demands, they want to share important committees, they want a balanced budget in 7 years, they want to impose

to eke out very narrow gains against all odds. with the country in disarray, inflation at 40 year highs republicans should have done better. the second thing, this horrible $1.7 trillion omnibus bill which nobody supported, where were the republicans on stopping that bill? a lot of conservatives are angry their views have not been represented in congress, they did list a bunch of demands, some very reasonable like allowing members 72 hours before having to vote on a 4,000 page bill, who can disagree with that? in terms of open debate and allowing amendments to come to the floor, not since 2,016 has there been one amendment posted to a bill from the floor in open debate, that's wrong. what i think the house is broken, i think these guys have

do you think the holdouts make good points but they should quit now to prevent more chaos later? >> not the second part. i think lose was spot on, her analysis was perfect. the underlying problem is they don't trust each other. the 20 don't trust mccarthy who has been in leadership for 14 years. he has been leadership for 14 years, they know this person but in kevin mccarthy does not trust these 20 people and the bulk of the conference doesn't trust these people so i think what they need to do is generate a list of who they would support for speaker. i think they've been inconsistent in terms of what they want but this should have been addressed the day after the election. kevin mccarthy was patting his people on the head, didn't think he would need them, now he needs them and they are not there. stuart: the truth came out this morning and said back mccarthy,

and away to bring this conference together to make sure we get a speaker and we go on and do the business of the american people which we were elected to do which is why nancy pelosi was retired because the american people wanted republicans in charge. we when do you think it makes a difference donald trump weighed in today and said to back mccarthy? >> i think he has a lot of weight with these members and team should saying that and showing that support for kevin helps coalesce more support but i do think at the end of the day there's compromise their and a way for these 222 members to come together and say we have to tackle the border, we have to make sure we are doing the things that the american people want us to do, we have an energy crisis, recession looming, we are seeing this out-of-control spending from the democrats and i think we had a policy level are more united than ever so let's get the business of the american people. stuart: you have 5, 6, 7 hold out to say there's no way we are voting for mccarthy, no way, won't do it.

about but the name i am hearing from this group is kevin hirt, young member of congress. i think that group is doing a disservice if they are not coming up and announcing here are the people we could support because ultimately you have to get to 20 and that is way the framers set it up. you can fight the constitutional you want, you can rage about -- kevin mccarthy has been leadership for 14 years, they don't have the trust between the two and until they find somebody they can all trust he can't move forward. stuart: thank you. the first twitter files of 2,023 have been released, what are we learning? lauren: a lot to get to. the intelligence community gained influence over the platform. after the 2016 presidential election twitter faced a pr crisis. was russia manipulating its site. even hillary clinton slammed twitter for not investigating russian interference. eventually and reluctantly they launched that russia task force and when they got the results

it is all impacting their front line staff. as for having a growing shortage of workers across the country they say these are reasons people are leaving the profession and it is harder to recruit to fill positions in hospitals, some say reducing crime in our communities and repairing our healthcare system go hand in hand. stuart: are related story here, the seattle credit union is the latest company to announce they are shutting down branches due to rampant crime in the city. multiple starbucks locations also closed with the same concern, crime. jason rantz is our seattle guy, joins me now. inner-city seattle, they are a total mess but the suburbs of seattle are very prosperous. is that the way it is? >> reporter: i wouldn't call it very prosperous. it's much better than seattle.

what happens in seattle doesn't stay in seattle. it has a tendency to spread. the bad policies and consequences of those policies particularly when it comes to crime and drug use and homelessness, they do end up spreading and before you know it, folks said to themselves i am glad i moved to bellevue because i don't want to do anything with seattle anymore. all of a sudden they are saying these policies actually are followed and then you have the state level a bunch of lawmakers taking their direction from seattle and imposing a bunch of policies that end up taking seattle policies and making them statewide. the suburbs certainly do better, there has been a pretty significant shift as to the impact seattle is having. stuart: is getting worse? credit union's closing branches, starbucks closing branches? don't know about other retail

chains but are things getting worse in seattle? >> i like to explain seattle in the last 6 months taking one step forward and 2 steps back. there's always a little bit of progress and all of a sudden something else happens. last year, i broke the story last night, one hundred 53 officers left the seattle police department, 509, we have a crippled police department. homelessness has gotten better than where it was in the past, they just moved somewhere else. there is another neighborhood and another intersection being overwhelmed by this kind of stuff. you see pockets of success and other areas starting to take that step back. ultimately we are taking baby steps in the right direction. i think we are. except when it comes to crime. this crime is rising in seattle. last year we had 57 homicides which is higher than the year

talking about $600 million, that's what costing people, stealing stuff is costing them $600 million, walmart, rite aid, the list goes on, some stores are closing, some stores are hiring private security. the chamber of commerce says big retailers, they say small retailers, nearly half have increased prices. stuart: jason chaffetz, what do we do about this? may maybe california has to change the law, $900 worth of stuff as a necessity, do we have to change the law? >> you have to have prosecutors money to prosecute, cops that know they have the backs of the community and everybody else but until there's consequences from going out and stealing $500 worth of stuff at your local cvs the consequences, they have to shut the stores down, that's why they have these food deserts and other problems in inner city, baltimore, we see that
