these 20 conserve is are not backing down. what is the plan? >> the group with team mccarthy negotiating with him behind closed doors. that was the purpose of the adjournment until 8:00 tonight. hopefully a break-through of the 20 people logjam voting. a lot of concessions is on the rules. mccarthy made a number of concessions. maybe there are concessions they can take to secure the votes. that is where we're at on the floor. at 8:00 you will see us going for a seven vote. elizabeth: are you optimistic he will win? >> i am. look at the numbers. over 200 members of the conference support him. only 20% are holding out. so i think hopefully they will be able to work this out and start the work of the american people, because just like your reporter said, we can't do

anything we talked about doing, for the american people until we swear in to take the gavel. elizabeth: watch congressman elect loren bobert nominated byron donalds for speaker ship. >> our border is wide open. inflation is out of control. the senate passed $1.7 trillion without our input. let me be clear, our job is not to coronate the biggest fund-raiser or rubber stamp the status quo, keep on going along to get along. it is to use our votes to elect a speaker who will enable us to get our country back on track. byron donalds is that leader. republicans including many moderates have been impressed by byron donalds. the president needs to tell kevin mccarthy, sir, you do not have the votes. it is time to withdraw.

with that i yield. elizabeth: a lot of booing over that. what was your reaction to that? >> byron donalds doesn't have the votes either. he has a lot of votes to go than kevin mccarthy does. all the points on issues that kevin mccarthy said he would address. he has been to the border. he said that would be a priority. he will create a committee specifically to investigate china. he will create a committee to investigate the corruption at doj and fbi. jim jordan will be judiciary chair, head a lot of these investigations as it relates to the immigration reform and the border. all of these things she talked about, that need to be addressed kevin mccarthy said he is going to address and members like myself who are conservatives like states like florida will stand with him to fight for the american people. elizabeth: should mccarthy back down now, get a consensus candidate the house gop can unify? the freedom caucus members they overwhelmingly come from safe, solid districts.

they are unlikely to be harmed by this. >> the majority of the freedom caucus support kevin mccarthy. it is 20 individuals are holding out. hopefully this negotiation happening right now will be successful. we can come together as republicans, elect a republican speaker, move forward to do the things the american people brought us up here and tasked us up here to do. elizabeth: the gop needs to decide what the problem is. they're not putting forward candidates overwhelmingly majority of voters will go for or is it to the 20 conservatives who are angry the house republicans are compromising too much and bending to the will of democrats too much, how do you see it? >> look, we live in a democratic republic, the democratic republic of the republican conference, 222 members vote for leader we want. will we not allow overwhelmingly members conference elected by voters in this land to determine the leader of republican

conference, not 10%, mass minority of the conference. we should stand behind the overwhelmingly majority of our conference elected after this election cycle and move forward for the american people want us to do. elizabeth: we have a new "gallup poll." americans see economic pain, higher taxes, even political unrest in 2023 the media is slamming the house gop. the president is saying that this is an embarassment. what is an embarassment is recession, inflation, collapsed border and rising crime, much more of these crises. so people say complain about this, this is messy but that is democracy, this is messy. the question will we get to, will you guys get to a house speaker that everybody can coalesce behind and will it be kevin mccarthy? >> at some point we have to. i feel strangely it will be kevin. he has 202 votes out of 222. you have 20 holding out.

i feel confident he can get there. we need to work together to find that person. every single day that goes by we're not able to do the work of the american people. that is what they sent us here to do investigations, pass bills we talked about passing. we'll do that as soon as we elect a speaker. >> which of the 20 do you think will first bend and will others follow behind that person? >> i don't know. it will, in conversations with them they all seem pretty locked but talk about negotiate on these rules. they give them some rule concessions and they still don't, still don't break away. this is more personality-based than what they're saying it is. at some point they have to realize we need to get to work, to set our personal differences aside. go behind the overwhelmingly majority of what the conference wants us to do, move forward with kevin as the speaker, get to work of the american people. elizabeth: what rules are they upset about? >> one of them was vacate the chair which mccarthy already acquiesced to. first they were asking for one.

he agreed to five members can move to vacate the chair. think about how dangerous that is. you're empowering the democrats but he agreed to it if five members in our conference decide to make a motion to vacate the chair, we will revote for speaker, be in the same exact circumstance you're in now. you're empowering the democrats to join five individuals. you could have a scenario where five moderate republicans join with the democrats to elect their own speaker. we're not far from that. if there is five moderate republicans want to break off with the democrats we could be in the scenario where you have a moderate republican or god forbid a democrat in a republican conference if five republicans break off to join them. that is where we're at. we need to get behind who the conference is voted at our leader and move forward. elizabeth: what is really an issue too, you see the debate, the fiery debate going on in the gop, it is taxpayer money being spent without oversight.

conspicuously dropped by those in d.c. members of the intelligence service, fbi, adam schiff were asking the information be taken down, requesting information be censored, requesting accounts be shut down, often over completely false pretenses whether it was, accounts talking about the lab leak theory, a journalist for "new york post" writing for real clear investigations who could potentially have leaked phone calls from the white house. you have a congressman reaching out, this shows you how comfortable the relationship had gotten, a congressman said hey can you pull that down, any tweets that mentioner this person, brown down any accounts mentioning that person, fingering two journalists? that is significantly more concerning and moves towards first amendment by the. elizabeth: schiff was claiming staffer in his office was potentially harassed by

potential whistle-blower, that the staffer was getting ha resisted. what schiff did about a member of congress thought he had to the right to censor journalist. how is this not state censorship? remember people got upset when journalists were following, doxxing about his private jet? musk reinstated them. this is pretty bad stuff it seems like. >> showing the actual government collision in this is terrible. but it comes down to it they might be able to argue there is no actual use of force here by the government to shut down american citizens free speech but since we give this government the power to have that use of force the sole use of force and since it often does use it, now we have a communicating with companies in a way that could be seen as intimidating to those companies, that is something that needs to be argued in the courts. what is worse about this, this is denied entire time. people said it was conspiracy theory when you talk about it. now it is exposed, we already

knew it happened all the time, it is not even a news story. that is completely going gus. now the american people can see it. elizabeth: to your point government officials and bureaucrats as you mentioned earlier even got twitter to censor twitter content about any discussion about the pandemic, coronavirus leaking from a lab in china, calling that you know, saying well this is just russian disinformation and talk about lockdowns. that was censored too. twitter's former top official yoel roth all the activity was the government's attempt to do content moderation by themselves, you know what i mean? you couldn't even talk about the possibility, looks like there is evidence it did leak from the lab, or about lockdowns. if you did, you were thought to be russian disinformation and then censored. >> yeah. i mean "the federalist," i used to work was threatened by google losing its advertising there was serious evidence this was leaked from a lab.

there. certainly americans are concerned about runaway spending, about higher tax burdens we'll have to face to pay for this spending and federal government assuming roles that the private sector is assuming. not every dollar in the infrastructure bill is bad by any means. there is a lot of good and necessary invests in public infrastructure, in energy research and development but at the same time if we want to get the money out the door we need meaningful permitting reform and that is something the new congress and senate should focus on if we want to see a bipartisan successful strategy moving forward. elizabeth: neil, where do you come down on this? good to see you, good to have you on, neil. kentucky state can pull money out of banks including pension funds. citigroup, jpmorgan chase, blackrock. this is coming the president is criticized over his energy policy but it is about blowing out taxpayer money on his spending priorities what do you think, neil? >> i agree with nick. not every dollar of taxpayer

spending is wasteful spending. i'm from kentucky. i crossed the brent spence bridge that is critical infrastructure for our economy, to keep goods moving about our economy. we've struggled to find a compliment to that bridge for years and years. this was a big deal and an example of a bipartisan compromise. when it comes to you know banks and state governments and the divesting of certain things, look i'm a big believer in letting the markets work and markets function. i don't like it when california bars companies that invest in fossil fuels and i don't like it when kentucky bars companies that divest from fossil fuels. i would rather have investment houses make decisions about where they can make money and provide the greatest return to their shareholders and investors. i don't want those investors making decisions to reform society. if they think investing in

decarbonization which is a huge financial opportunity is a good thing that can make money, they ought to do it. elizabeth: so what neil just said, nick, by the way, kentucky is a fossil fuel producing state. it is joining a growing number of states saying no to woke capitalism. west virginia, also florida, texas, utah, louisiana. they're all moving to yank their money out of these banks that are saying, pushing these esg initiatives. this is coming on the same day what the president was doing in kentucky. so there is more states saying no to this, nick. what do you think? >> yeah. i think neil's point was spot on. we want more competition and by restricting access to lending facilities in banks you're restricting some of that competition and i understand a lot of states with abundant resources if there is hostility to mining those resources, to developing oil and gas but at the same time if you restrict access to lending institutions, what we've seen in some of these states that pass these laws is

that it actually raises the borrowing rates for these states and that increases the interest rates that are paid for by the taxpayers. so when you're talking about pensions for teachers and firefighters and local office workers, you know the focus needs to be on the return they're going to see so they can retire with a lot of money in their bank, rather than focusing on these woke bills or these anti-woke bills or some of these esg bills like in california that are doing the same damage. elizabeth: neil, your final word? >> look, i mean nick is right. these states should stay out of investments and investors should make decisions based on what is in their best financial interests and not allow you know greater societal objectives to come into play. if you think investing in decarbonization will provide greater returns to your investors do it. but don't do it because you're trying to reshape society. elizabeth: got it.

trying to hash out the differences that we can emerge from the meeting at 8:00 with one ballot in support of kevin mccarthy. the reality is that kevin has been such an open leader, has been willing to take suggestions. he has accommodated rule changes requests, giving us opportunities to read the legislation unlike what nancy pelosi did, giving as you2 hour rule. making sure bills were germane. not jamming all sorts of stuff in the bill that shouldn't be there. that the cbo, impact from on inflation. somewhere it has to beingbe cut. can't keep to adding to 31 trillion-dollar debt. these are changes members requested, but here they are pushing for personal requests. i think that is where we should be drawing the line. we can't allow 10% of the individuals to hold this entire body hostage. we all agreed on the rules

changes. we want to see good government reforms made but to continue to hold hostage to the leader, other members of congress, get in way of us doing our job, what the american people want us to do would be a real tragedy at this point. elizabeth: let's move on to this, "the washington post" is reporting that the white house is most afraid of and worried about the house probe into biden's botched withdrawal from afghanistan. they can't dismiss it as just politics or blame it on trump because the biden white house decided to pull out the military first before it evacuated all american citizens and 13 troops died. 9,000 americans stranded. you get a question who made the call to pull out the military first and why, that is the question. >> absolutely. think closed the airbase prior to evacuating citizens. as a result prisoners, isis prisoners were released from that jail, one of them went on to commit that who are risk attack that killed 13 american soldiers. we have sought accountability for the last year but the

democrats refuse to hold hearings. that is why we are so, so much wanting to get sworn in so we can start doing, conducting these investigations, not just that, but the biden families association with foreign entities. what is happening at the southern border, making sure it is secure, holding mayorkas accountable. we want toes about legislation under kevin mccarthy we worked hard to develop and craft, secure the border, tackle inflation, ramp up energy independence. stop the president raiding the strategic petroleum reserves. we can't do that if we can't elect the speaker first. you're a business met work. what business would allow 10% of its shareholders, 10% of the board of directors be able to dictate the rest of the entry? that is exactly what is happening here in congress. we're being held hostage by 10% of our republican members who don't seem to want to do what is right for the conference and for

entrenched what they believe. the 20 or so not able to vote for kevin mccarthy. they don't like him. they don't trust him. i don't feel there can ever be turned or talked into going a different direction. i just don't think they will. elizabeth: you know, let's move on to this story. because we've got a lot of serious problems that the names is dealing with, a lot of crises. we have a "bomb cyclone" about to hit san francisco. democrats are all about pushing green energy. the biden white house wants electric cars the all of those fail in storms. ledge trick cars lose half the driving range in cold weather. they won't drive or unlock in cold weather, stranding people. this debate over green energy that needs to be had inside of the house, inside of congress? >> that is why i'm about all of the above energy. i think a lot of republicans have taken that position. if you put too much on any one form of energy you get caught with these types of problems. i used to own a tesla. i love the tesla. kind of the way every car should

be. i ultimately sell it because i could sell it for more money i bought it for after putting 20,000 miles on it. retaining value is great. in cold weather state in utah, when the temperature drops down to 10, it does, energy out after electric battery just plummets. it is hard to plan for it. you can't just pull over. if traffic gets stopped somewhere because of an accident, you will probably ha to be towed. unless you pursue all of the above it's a real problem but there are drawbacks. most people don't realize where electricity comes from. it comes from colby and large. it also comes from nuclear which the greenies are also opposed to. electricity is great, you have to understand where does it come from? elizabeth: there is questions about the stress put on power grid from green energy during the recent blizzard that killed 60 people here in the u.s. throughout the u.s. that debate
