5:03 pm
out hourly wage growth of 4.5%. more on this story that broke in our hour last night. the gigantic chinese spy balloon crossing the continental u.s. jennifer giveins with us from the pentagon. >> the balloon has left montana air space. the pentagon is not buying china's apology and explanation that this was a research civilian balloon that was blown off course. the pentagon said the balloon is maneuverable and has changed its direction. >> we assess it will probably be over the united states for a few days. >> the balloon is flying at 60,000 feet.
5:04 pm
the u.s. does not fly spy balloons over mainland china. there are questions about why the military advised the president against shooting down the chinese spy balloon. what happens when this balloon which is carrying heavy equipment and is the size of at least two school buses lands on someone's home or a kindergarten, if we sheet down the balloon and equipment on board will plunge to earth at meteoric speed. we are told collateral damage is the main reason the president decide not to shoot it down for now. they would not rule out shooting it down once it's over a body of water.
5:05 pm
u.s. officials said they have mitigated the ability of this balloon to spy on sensitive sites. liv joining us now, congressman mark green. con gwhy not just shoot it down signs was trying to cross into our air space? we look incredibly weak to the world. >> a few years ago when a spy plane was in international waters. they seized the aircraft and seized the people and kept them for a considerable amount of time. this is unacceptable that we are allowing this thing to traipse
5:06 pm
across the united states. liz: we took a poll and 90% said shoot it down. elon musk can plant a rocket on a buoy in the ocean and we don't know how to defend against this balloon? >> i wouldn't say that. i think it an issue of the will of the dod and the president. they could have brought it down over the aleutians. liz: watch this what happened today. >> mr. president ... >> we are aware of the statement. however, the fact is we know
5:07 pm
it's a surveillance balloon. and i'm not going to be able to be more specific than that. we assess it does not pose a risk to the people on the ground as it's currently crossing the united states. the public has the ability to look up in the sky and see where the balloon is. liz: is it picking up signals and getting information about the intercontinental ballistic missiles? the minuteman. it's over farmland. they could shoot it where the debris wouldn't hit anybody. what does china want. china cannot grow crops on about 90% of its land. >> there are a lot of reasons china is driving a balloon across the united states. not just to look, but to see how
5:08 pm
we respond. liz: why is he not acting? >> i don't understand. i don't know if he's got some, you know, fantasy that he can get some negotiated agreement with china not to violate the rules-based international order. but that's clearly a fallacy. he's living in lala-land if he this he will treat these guys nice and they will suddenly become nice. they are not. look at the actions china has taken in the past. they are an enemy of the united states in many ways. we have to stand up to it and this president is too weak to do so. liz: they are doing a deliberate act of provocation. are they they doing this to test us? >> think about what the
5:09 pm
department of defense just said. they just said they are not allowing it to transmit. well, that in and of itself is a test of our capabilities. so absolutely they are testing us. they are getting some of the information they want for sure. >> they have satellites but it's interesting it's the balloon. the pentagon reportedly saying it acted immediately as we just heard, to stop the collection of sensitive information. but do you trust that? >> i trust that we have some incredible capabilities, none of which i want to go into on national television. but as we act the chinese become aware of our capabilities. and it should never have gotten over the united states. liz: an air force general first reported by nbc last week warned
5:10 pm
him that his gut tells him to be ready for war with china not just in theory, but in two year time. >> they have to figure out a way to get that balloon down and find out what's tonight. we have to know exactly the equipment that's on it. what the chinese have seen and what's been sent back to china. we have to know what they now know because of this balloon. liz: what are you most importantied about? >> they flew over our nuclear sites. and hopefully they weren't mapped. liz: joining us from the house select committee on china. congressman johnson, you just heard that full conversation. first your reaction to the story. >> i can't believe we haven't done anything to this balloon.
5:11 pm
the chinese are testing us, and i get why the white house hasn't acted. they don't want to rock the boat. i understand there are legitimate concerns about escalation. but for 30 or 40 years, this country has tried to be nice to china. we tried to coach them into being good guys. it's not working. that's not how the chinese party is wired. we need to start to make it clear to them that we'll be serious about these threats now and in the future. liz: what would china do if we shot it out of the sky? >> they would probably want to take some retaliatory action. liz: tough, they are in our interior. >> that's my sense as well.
5:12 pm
it's not just about a balloon. the reality is china is a 360 degree threat to this country. they have been engaged with us in a cold war for decades. we have not been paying attention. we have not been prepared in espionage, infiltration and technical operations against our country. liz: you introduced legislation to protect america's farmland and businesses. china only grows crops in 12% of its land and its people desperately need food. >> you can tell the balloon didn't go over south dakota. fit had, i think my governor christie nome would have shot it down. she is a pretty good shot.
5:13 pm
we are letting them by up our farmland. they have increase candidate their holding of farmland by 1,000 percent in the last few years. they own 1,300ing a processing facilities. food security is national security. why we are letting china get contractual over our food supply is beyond me. liz: a probe is being opened into climate czar john kerry. the house gop says he's undermining u.s. interests. nobody knows what his issue is. >> it is an issue. maybe second tear question kerry has done everything fine. maybe everything he has done
5:14 pm
will pass the smell test, but maybe not. i think jamie comer is doing the right thing. at some point this administration has treated china with kid gloves and they should not have. liz: is this why the president's response is weak on the chinese spy balloon? >> they are probably not related, but until they start to answer the questions and provide the documents, how do we know. if joe biden doesn't have anything to hide with regards to china. liz: john kerry is running a shadow presidency. john kerry is using a cabinet level position. did not require senate confirmation.
5:15 pm
he's engaging in activities, we don't know what he's doing about our u.s. economy. he's skirting congressional authority. >> what makes me concerned is when mike pompeo or nikki haley went to speak on behalf of the united states of america i knew they would project strength and i knew they understood the world was a dangerous place and naivete could injure our national security. liz: he's come under fire not for showing -- for not showing -- he's not telling anybody who is on his payroll in his climate office. he's pro otherrizing climate
5:16 pm
change and as that china's human rights abuses should be decoupled. >> the more and more our select committee digs into how the chinese p --the chinese party d. john kerry is creating a more dangerous world than americans should expect from their government. what john kerry has done has not served american interests well. liz: where is that nih study. dr. fauci promised an nih study in 2021 on the efficacy of the vaccine.

5:21 pm
liz: hans, you are the perfect guy to talk about this. hunter biden's legal team are basically admitting hunter biden's laptop is real, then they trying to tornado that back. wouldn't hunter have to sit down in a deposition and be grilled by the defense team and expose what he was doing helping his family cash in on government jobs? >> yes, any lawsuit will result in extensive discovery. that means giving up documents, emails with and sitting for a deposition. if he refuses to answer contempt charges could be brought against him before a judge. this will allow whoever he is in
5:22 pm
the lawsuit with to investigate what he actually did. in some way it might be a good thing. how long has the fbi been looking at this and we still don't know what they found. liz: there are reports that the president took out a quarter million line of credit against his rehoboth beach home. then you have got this. john paul mcisaac owns the computer repair shop. suing hunter biden for defamation. isn't he in ownership of the laptop hunter left behind. >> under delaware law the laptop was abandoned. and hunter biden lost all title
5:23 pm
ownership to that laptop. and so his claim that it was unlawful access to personal information on that laptop or isaac somehow altered the emails is just foolish. it's a publicity stunt, it's not a real legal argument because he has no legal argument. liz: hunter biden is demanding his father. they go to the irs, they go to the delaware attorney general to prosecute mcisaac, rudy giuliani and his critics for accessing the computer's data. but isn't that a conflict of interest? >> it certainly is. and they have no claim. it's not just that he abandoned
5:24 pm
the laptop. when you give your laptop to a computer repairman, you are giving them complete access to the computer or else they wouldn't be able to fix it. isaac turned this over to the fbi immediately when the fbi came for it, too. he was being a good citizen in comparison to hunter biden. liz: they are asking the delaware attorney general who worked under beau biden when he was attorney general there. >> help me understand. i think that if people are being honest, not many people don't have a window into the disease of addiction which aflicked hunter biden at various points in his life. most people understand, the president's kids are not the
5:25 pm
path and haven't stepped into the arena. what is the political magic key? liz: senate homeland security released fears of extortion with hunter biden using secret service assets, air force 2, setting up deals and influence peddling. nbc reporting on the laptop last spring. that hunter's firm earned $11 million on the deal making. the fbi former assistant director for counter-intelligence saying this is a national security risk. so why isn't msnbc reporting on the story? >> they are basically the front for joe biden and the democratic
5:26 pm
party. you and i both know if donald trump committed actions like this, they would be talking about it constantly and making complaints about the fbi being so slow to investigate this. fbi agents it was revealed did everything they could to stop this investigation from going forward. that's why it's important that comer's commit he looks into this. i don't know that we can trust the fbi to do this. liz: top democrats backed a house resolution condemning the horrors and brutality of socialism. they supported this after other democrats attacked it. more covid mandates are going away. but where is that nih study dr. fauci promised in 2021 on

liz: look who is here. dr. janette nesheiwat. scientists are asking where is the study dr. fauci promised in 2021 on how effective the vaccines were. it was going to be a study of the vaccine on 12,000 college students, but it vanished. >> you are exactly right. it was only supposed to last
5:32 pm
approximately six months. they took half of them. half got moderna vaccine. they followed them and had them swab their nose daily. they looked to seat close contacts of those 6,000 vaccinated students to see, did they catch covid. but you are right. where is that data? that is the information we need to create a protocol on our policies on who needs to be vaccinated and who doesn't. we don't have that information. it's disheartening because not everyone needs to have a covid booster. not every college stud should be getting a vaccine, especially little if they have covid immunity. now that dr. fauci is retired, i don't know if we'll have a new nih director who will resume this study.
5:33 pm
we need policies based on data and signs, not hearsay. liz: you are making very important points. did they not release it potentially because they found the vaccine did not work to prevents the spread of the disease. did not prevent transmission? >> that's a great question. i have been taking care of thousands of covid patients on the front lines. we doand -- we don't need this y to know that you can still spread covid. two or three months later i was having patients come in still testing positive spreading covid to their family members and classmates. maybe funding was he allocated elsewhere. but this is information we need moving forward. we'll see future outbreaks. >> let's show dr. fauci
5:34 pm
announcing the study? 2001 *. -- in 2021.>> when these peoplt infected. if they are ai am poematic, how much virus do they have in their nose and do they transmit it to close contacts. >> liz: covid sign you the state put out a couple in great prey t britain. he says they researched covid at the get-go and they knew immediately it was man made. but they were told to be quiet by dr. fauci. you. it has inserts around the receptor binding region in the virus and had a feature not present on any similar virus. it made it more rocket ship
5:35 pm
infectious. >> that's so disturbing to hear. this is the information we need to figure out why did this virus spread when from day one we were told from china that it didn't spread from pe person to person. china withheld a lot of information, they withheld information to the world health organization. they were telling the public it spread from animals. and why the cover-up? was it because we were providing funding to the wuhan lab? but we need honesty and transparency to be better prepared for future outbreaks. liz: this can never happen again. the cover-up within the censorship, the bullying of americans who were questioning

5:42 pm
soldier. is that true what he said. >> now it's not true. inflation was 1.4% when he took office. by the ends of the year the went up to 7% after they spent too much money. it's a completely. >> it's astounding. what's going to be worse next week is the state of the union. it will be a massive victory lap where he lies and lies analyze. too bad's not under oath when he gives the state of the union address. it will be more spin about the economy that couldn't be further from the truth. liz: you give him four pinocchios. so this fight over the house. the house resolution condemning the horrors of socialism. it was introduced by representative maria salazar.

d.c. watchers say republicans reportedly did it to see if democrats support socialism. >> to bring a resolution on socialism. to condemn some dictators that we all condemn. but understand the goal of this phoney, fake and fraudulent resolution is just to somehow provide cover for extreme maga republicans to try to undermine an agenda that is designed to lift up the health, safety and well-being of the american people. >> despite my democratic colleague's claims, there is nothing in this resolution about banning social service or anything of the like. >> i know first hands the horror, the distrucks that
5:44 pm
socialism has brought millions of families in the korean peninsula under the evil regime of the kim dynasty. >> hakeem jeffries. if that resolution is so fake. why did hakeem jeffreys vote yes for it? what is he talking about? >> very few people don't want to have on their record that they don't. but there are some democrats who do support socialism. that would be the squad. this is a way to winnow out the ideologues. let's start talking about extreme socialist democrats. i'm tired of hearing about extreme maga republicans.
5:45 pm
liz: hakeem jeffries was talking about their agenda. it did get us in trouble. debt is 120% to gdp. eight 6 democrats said we are not going to condemn socialism. so this is really the story of what's going on in this democrat party starting under obama to trump. the party is so far left it's unrecognizable. >> we talked about inflation and biden's head in the sand. we continue to spend on social welfare programs as the economy was recovering and we didn't need to stimulate the demands out of the economy. if socialism is so great, where are they jumping across walls and busting down our southern
5:46 pm
borderers to get out of socialist countries. liz: we cannot turn upside down in this nation. we added the equivalent of france and italy in spending and government debt. we know it started under trump. obama was the worst one of all in terms of adding to the u.s. debt. but now people are incentivized not to work. there were 10 million job openings. >> there are about 5 million people who should be in the workers to and are not. more government spending as a percentage of gdp meant slower growth and basically not the increase in wealth that we experienced in this country and we want to go forward in the future. it's a bad policy. capitalism has worked. let's stick with it. liz: cnn, look at this.

liz: joining us now, retired fbi agent bobby chacomb. the house judiciary seen ad fbi director christopher wray today to compel him to testify after finding the doj and fbi under the biden white house were targeting parents. >> this is the most glaring example of the weaponizing of the fbi. this was started by a letter from the national school board association to merrick garland, the attorney general, allege an
5:52 pm
uptick in some kind of violent threats at school board meetings. they never provided data to back that up. merrick garland ordered the fbi to hold meetings within 30 days to start monitoring parents at school board meeting without any data or study or anything. simply based on this letter that compared parents with domestic terrorists. but the damage was done when merrick garland tasks the fbi to set up these groups to target the parents. liz: this is parents sticking up for their kids' future being targeted by their government. it wasn't serious violence at all. it was more like disorderly conduct and threats of assault.
