was born. free speech there is not only under attack is been stamped on they are arresting people for silent prayer and water being called censorship zones. i never thought i would see this but it is happening. five cities have set up the zones around abortion clinics. to extend the zones throughout england and wales. a few weeks ago a prominent antiabortion campaigner nil in silent prayer outside of the clinic which was actually closed at the time. she was questioned by police, searched, arrested and charged without illegal protest. shortly after that an army veteran was arrested and fought silent prayer. a local town posted the prohibited activities. you cannot sprinkle holy water you can't read scripture or prayer, you can't make appear solid or otherwise which could be considered approval or disapproval of abortion.

you can't do that. birmingham carried a sign saying praying first free speech. you cannot do that. in a censorship zone. he was arrested and charged. the charges were dropped but he was warned don't do it again. the zones were set up to prevent the harassment of women. the idea that silent prayer constitutes harassment is surely taking an extreme view. to be arrested for silent prayer is surely a new low. there are echoes of this in america that oppose woken them in the left of the day you will be accused of killing people or encouraging violence. remember when senator josh hawley asked a professor of a biological male could have a baby, she replied that holly was encouraging violence. what is happening in britain and here is not about abortion. it is about freedom and free speech. third hour of "varney" starcher right now. ♪

credit card debt delinquency and other loans are increasing this could be a sign of stress on the american consumer. we will have to see. stuart: you got that right total household debt 16.9 trillion last year. at 1.3 trillion in 2021. we need an economist and we got one, art laffer he is with us now what is the sharp rise in consumer debt and rising delinquencies, what does it tell you about the economy? >> two things we have a lot of inflation over the last year so you would expect inflation driven that the debt would increase but this is above and beyond which makes it a little bit alarming and the delinquencies are rising there is low levels but all of this is back on information that tells me there is a turning coming in the economy. i know our employment numbers were very high last month. i know the inflation numbers have been coming down for a

while but the new inflation members, their bad news, there's a lot of background information that is coming this is the future is harbingers of this economy the future of the economy is not going along well and the democrats are responding very badly to that. a thousand dollars in each one savings account worn beyond 2005 or whatever it was. wanting to raise the death tax to pay for that when we know the death tax collects one half of 1% of all revenue that is collected by a 40% death tax right now. what are they going to do. all of these are false solutions to problems that they created. the background noise tells us things don't look good for the future. stuart: if we keep spending as planned what happens does the economy go into recession, do we also get added inflation which would be stagflation? >> i think you do i think the

spending has been the primary cause of why the inflation picked up as soon as it did when biden came into office as edward lawrence mentioned what was if i trillion new spending by biden. that was the cause in my mind of inflation and if you go back to the same thing again i think you will see the inflation numbers rising. this last month's inflation number was half of 1% on a monthly basis which is about seven plus% on annual basis. the only reason the number came down is because a year ago number that dropped off was also very, very high. the monthly numbers are rising and that's not a good sign for inflation and while the employment number is looked great you see a lot of companies doing layoffs and all of that. i think we have a problem in front of us because of the overspending. i think the overspending is the issue to date. stuart: you are right i want you have a great weekend despite the
