of deaths are a result of that virus escaping from a chinese government lab. you now have the biden energy department that has concluded that it is more likely than not that the virus escaped from a chinese government lab. not only that, the biden fbi has likewise concluded that is the most likely source. this is incredibly relevant on a number of fronts. number one, the media, the corporate media for two years has been lying about this. they have been labeling as misinformation and conspiracy theory the obvious inference which is that this escaped from a chinese lab. i think likely the wuhan institute of virology. that, every one of the media outlets that echoed those talking points from the chinese communist party, every democrat poll its the that echoed those -- politician that echoed those talking points should be held accountable. but secondly, we need real

transparency, and the government of china needs to be held accountable for the millions of lives that have been lost because of this virus, for the trillions of dollars of damage in terms of jobs destroyed, businesses destroyeded, the world economy brought to its knees because of china's culpability. elizabeth: senator, shouldn't the energy county and fbi disclose what they know? what is new intelligence? because, you know, we have been waiting three years already. three years is too long to wait. >> yeah. elizabeth: shouldn't they disclose it? >> absolutely, yes, this should be made public. the public has a right to know. not just the american public, the entire world. because china's culpability for covid is of relevance to every country on the face of the planet. and all of this needs to be made public. we should be having hearings in congress. now sadly, senate democrats don't want to have hearings. the senate foreign relations committee on which i serve should have hearings on in the. the senate judiciary committee

on which i serve should have hearings on this, on the liability that china faces and should face for its culpability here. and the thing that is frustrating, elizabeth, these facts were evident over two years ago. over two years ago i did a deep dive on the facts demonstrating that this was the source of covid. i do a podcast every week called verdict with ted cruz. back in 2020 the i laid out these facts in the spring of 2020. today's podcast on the verdict podcast i do a deep dive of all of the evidence that was present if three years ago and is present now. elizabeth: yeah. >> and repeatedly, the media outlets that denied it and covered up for the chinese communist government. elizabeth: you know, how can the media and even dr. fauci attack this as conspiracy theory from the get go, at the start of the pandemic? >> yep. elizabeth: how could they be so definitive about it when nobody

knew? why not investigate the evidence? dr. fauci first called this lab leak theory, quote, a shiny object that will go away. but then he testifies in a lawsuit brought by missouri and louisiana that he dismissed the lab leak to placate china out of fear it would, quote, increase tensions with china. >> well, dr. fauci's behavior on this has been abominable. i think he has done more damage than any bureaucrat in the history of the united states. he has championed policies that have hurt millions of americans, hurt millions of school kids in particular. and he has also done more to damage the credibility of the united states government when it comes to medical and scientific advice, because dr. fauci allowed his advice to be politicized. we know dr. fauci in writing asked can mark zuckerberg at facebook to suppress references to the origin of covid being from a chinese government lab. and he did so, i think, in part because there's a very real possibility that fauci himself bears culpability. i believe dr. fauci has lied to

congress which is a felony when he has stated the the federal government did the not fund gain of function research in the wuhan institute of virology. since then the national institutes for health in writing has contradicted that, and if the biden justice department were enforcing the law, they ought to be investigating dr. fauci for lying to congress which is a federal crime. to date, the biden doj has been too political to hold dr. fauci accountable. elizabeth: well, to your point, senator, let's show then-white house press secretary jen psaki go along with that narrative attacking the leak theory, and then watch nsa sullivan basically confirm it over the weekend. >> i would caution you against disproving a negative there which is never the responsible approach, in our view. >> president biden has directed repeatedly every element of our intelligence community to to put effort and resources behind getting to the bottom of this question. and one of the things in that

"wall street journal" report, which i can't confirm or deny, but i will say the reference to the department of energy, president biden specifically requested that the national labs which are participant of the department of energy -- part of the department of energy be brought into this assessment because he wants to put every tool at use to be able to figure out what happened here. right now there is not a definitive answer that has emerged from the intelligence community on this question. elizabeth: is it irresponsible and is it unproductive for the biden white house -- and today the press secretary says it's unproductive -- to investigate what dr. fauci and government officials were saying? isn't it the responsible thing to do that? were the government's efforts to get china to disclose the origins of the pandemic, was that slowed down by government and white house censorship and media censorship? i mean, we can't ever let this happen again, senator. >> look, absolutely. you know, it's really unfortunate that the biden white

house says it's unproductive to investigate the federal government lying to the american people about something that literally cost millions of people's lives, something that was devastating to our nation. and i'll tell you just three facts that were the evident two years ago. number one, the wuhan institute for virology is located just a few hundred yards away from the wet market where the first public outbreak occurred in wuhan. the wuhan institute for virology was studying coronaviruses derived from bats, bats that don't occur naturally in china. they're 900 miles away from wuhan, but that's where the outbreak occurred. number two, in november of 2019, before the pandemic globally, three different researchers from the wuhan institute of virology were hospitalized, hospitalized with severe symptoms that suggest that they may well have had covid, and that might have even been how the virus escaped initially. and here's fact number three. when this pandemic began

spreading, the chinese communist government -- which had already stockpiled protective equipment -- destroyed the samples in that lab so that there would be no evidence of their culpability. they destroyed the samples, and they disappeared whistleblowers. that is, in the legal context, that is indicative of a guilty conscience, and in a court of law you could draw an inference that if they're destroying evidence, it's because the evidence would nonsate that the chinese communist government has direct responsibility for the deaths and the trillions of dollars of damage caused by this pandemic. elizabeth: senator, what you said is really powerful. what does the senate republicans, what do you think house republicans are going to do next? >> well, i am grateful that we have a republican majority in the house. i have every confidence that this house majority will have real investigations and try to have real scrutiny. and, listen, i would call on my democrat colleagues in the senate. why on earth is today's democrat party in the senate trying to cover up for china's bad

conduct? why are they wanting the american people not to have visibility in what happened here? this is the conclusion of the biden department of energy and the biden fbi. that is serious, and it seems to me my democrat colleagues in the senate ought to be equally concerned about china's responsibility. i know the american people, i know 30 million texans are concerned about it, and i think the american people across the country are as well. elizabeth: senator cruz, a pleasure having you on, sir. >> thank you. elizabeth: let's welcome to the show dr. richard muller, co-author of that much talked about "wall street journal" op-ed two years ago, the science suggests wuhan lab leak, and dr. dr. muller, did you receive criticism or pushback after your op-ed? >> very little. in fact, the reason we had very little was that we worked very hard not to give any political opinions, not to ascribe blame so we could present the

scientific the evidence that covid was manufactured in a laboratory. when you stick to the science, it's hard for people to dispute you. elizabeth: that was a great op-ed that you cohour -- co-authored. dr. makary, what's your reaction to the energy department and the fbi saying it's likely that it leaked? we know the energy department is saying this with low confidence, fbi with moderate confidence. what was your reaction when you heard the reportsome. >> i think any reasonable person could say it could be reported with high confidence. if you put the pieces together, there was a lab leak in 1977 from if china that resulted in a pandemic of influenza. doctors, after the wuhan lab leak, were arrested and muzzled. the hospital is 5 miles, the epicenter of the epidemic, 5 miles from the wuhan lab. and so it's just amazing how everything fits. we know they were doing this kind of research. but yet c. collins, head of the

nih, still denies that it's happening. so, to me, all the pieces have been there for a long time, it's simply a matter of acknowledging them. elizabeth: to what dr. makary just said, judicial watch said it got nearly 1700 pages of nih documents revealing the fbi did probe the grants ties to the wuhan lab, that even dr. fauci's naid was concerned about gain of function research at that wuhan lab dating back to 2016, dr. muller. >> yeah. well, i mean, this is the evidence that as compelling as it is, people call, they call it indirect evidence. they call it not, not compelling. if even though there's a wealth of it. but there are five scientific the facts, and we have a whistle blow or. the whistleblowers call it the covid virus and we've measured

the genome, and it has features in it to make it exceedingly unlikely to have developed naturally. that evidence is scientific. it's not circumstantial. so if we focus in on the scientific evidence, we conclude beyond a 99% confidence level that this is created in a laboratory. now bring in the other evidence, that it just happened to be created in i wuhan, all these other things you mentioned. and then that hopes you focus in on who did it and maybe why they did it. elizabeth: dr. fauci testified the nih does the not fund the dangerous research many china. he downplayed it. but then he basically, "the washington post" found out that the nih was funding it, they had 18 gain of function research projects, dr. makary, funded for nearly $49 million. dr. fauci was on an e-mail chain with the nih director, francis collins, saying we need to do an

immediate takedown of epidemiologists saying this was a leak, calling them fringe. and, you know, dr. fauci, dr. makary, said this leak theory is a, quote, shiny object. but then he testifies in louisiana and missouri's lawsuit that, basically, yeah, i downplay the leak because i wanted to placate china. i didn't want to increase tensions with china. what do you make of that, dr. makary? >> when somebody first had suggested that it was the i wuhan lab leak that was the origin of the virus, dr. fauci clearly from his e-mails is and what's now public was in a a franticking mode, and he called an emergency meeting of top virologists that he trusts. two of those people, fox news has learned, told dr. fauci that it was likely a lab leak and then became a long expedition to suppress anybody who would suggest such including google now publicly acknowledging that they downplayed searches on lab

>> because the polls don't matter anymore. you've got to make, what, 40, 50 calls on a cell phone to get someone to answer a poll? inflation rate month to month is just up just an inch, hardly at all. >> increases in prices are likely to have only transitory effects on inflation. >> transitory -- >> transitory -- >> transitory. >> transitory. >> really looked at this year's inflation 3, 6 and 12 months trailing, you see inflation's running too high. so for starters, people are seeing their wage increases, their wage increases eaten up by inflation. elizabeth: so what do you think of all this, michael? >> well, you just heard it from chairman powell right there. if you look at price increases net of wages, the american people are worse off by 3.6%, right? if so, yes, wages have gone up but nowhere near to keep up with the inflation that has arisen from the administration's policies. and senator scott in your earlier clip really nailed it. when you impose this amount of spending, when you run these

kinds of massive deficits on the economy, you are going to see this kind of inflation. so those who said at the outset that this was transitory kind of forgot their econ 101 lessons that when you throw this amount of money into an economy and yet you don't have supply-side incentives to actually go meet all that additional demand, you're going to get inflation. and so it's unfortunate that we're not yet seeing a realization by the biden administration that we need to reverse course and get back to sound economic policies that get our budget in order. elizabeth: more than half of democrats don't want him to run again. he's underwater on the economy. more to your point, more federal reserve officials are warning inflation is now getting entrenched. it's sticky. that it's a supply problem. energy supply. concerns the white house is pushing the u.s. to go to green energy amid energy supply problems. trillions in government spending and an economy in lockdowns. a record job openings, 2-3 for every worker. so it's a supply problem. what do you make of the white

house press secretary trying to blame the problems on the pandemic? >> well, if you go back to the, when the inflation took place, we were a full 8 months into recovery when the biden administration came into office, and we were only looking at 1.6% inflation at that time. when did the inflation take off? it started occurring not just, not long after the passage of the american rescue plan. it was because there were trillions of dollars of extra government spending thrown into an economy that was already in recovery. and so like typical, they're looking for a scapegoat because it can't possibly be their policies. instead it's got to be something else that they can blame. elizabeth: got it. michael, thanks so much for joining us. it's good to see you. >> great to see you, liz. elizabeth: we're going to stay on this scandal, the major blowback against the media for attacking scientists and analysts who said, yes, investigate that the pandemic could have leaked from a lab in china. the energy department and fbi say it likely did.

"the washington post," "the new york times", the daily beast, the atlantic magazine, cnn, msnbc, "vanity fair", twitter, facebook on and on and on attacking anybody who even brought it up. how can they even pretend they know anything when the pandemic has just started? >> you know, it didn't take any expertise in any kind of field to join this choir of people

attacking anyone who suggested that the lab might have been responsible for this. tom cotton, the senator from arkansas, came out and said that publicly. you had hong kong journalist, finance journalist, business insider, saudi arabia reporter, editor-in-chief of the daily beast, everyone jumped on that train saying he was anti-science, he was racist and anti-chinese. but but the perfect encapsulation, i found of this at the time, was a young man named daniel funk who has graduated from 2017 in college, had gone to a google-funded journalism center where they placed him atpointer in charge of checking facts. he fact checked an unknowable thing, said it was false. and then they later had to retract that worth. -- that report. but people like daniel never get held to account. he got promoted to "usa today" where he became a fact checker, and today he leads afp's fact-checking apartment. blood test. elizabeth: wow, that's amazing. you know, "the new york times"

even reported this was racist to say it leaked. washington post fact checker glenn kester also attacked it. this is only the latest media narrative proven to fall apart. masks do not work to stop the spread. 15 days to stop the spread did not work. vaccine mandates did not work. dr. fauci now says in a co-authored study in january covid vaccines don't work, they're ineffective. so more and more we're seeing media mare -- narratives fall apart. >> imagine trying to take this tack that it is racist to suggest that a lab that works on this virus could have potentially leaked this virus, and it was not racist to say the chinese people were eating filthy cave bats in markets that were illegal and that's how the disease spread. apparently, that was the more accepting line. all of this kind of passed just basic common sense, the sort of things that you would look around and say maybe i don't need to mask up in my home, maybe my child still can get an education, maybe the wuhan virology institute for the study of this exact disease is responsible for this leak.
