when inflation had reached a 40-year high. house select committee on the coronavirus pandemic set to have their first hearing on wednesday just ahead of the bombshell report from that committee revealing evidence that dr. fauci prompted the release of a publication that would, quote, disprove the lab leak theory. here to take this on from the house select committee on china, congressman carlos jimenez. congressman, it's great to be with you this evening, thank you so much for joining us. >> my pleasure. jackie: let's go ahead and start with this latest development on the wuhan lab are leak theory. now the department of energy is saying that that, you know, it's the very likely that, in fact, the coronavirus came from the wuhan lab, and that's dismissing the misinformation that we've been told over the course of the last three years or so. then you've got dr. fauci, evidence that he, essentially, was trying to disprove that theory throughout the last three years of this pandemic. your thoughts on why he would do

that. >> well, my thoughts are, you know, if he had something to do with funding the virus that this came -- that came out of the lab, then i think he would do everything in his power to make sure there's something that said, no, it didn't come out of that lab. look, it came out of wuhan, and there happens to be an internationally-known virology lab there in wuhan. duh, yeah, that's the most likely source, but for all these years, no, that's crazy. it's not crazy. i actually think that's where it came from. moe americans, probably -- most americans, probably, think that's where it came from, and more and more of our agencies are saying that's where it ch do withdraw hoon for gain of function -- wuhan for gain of function research, and there was that fiery exchange between rand paul and dr. fauci because he kept skirting around the definition of gain of function research. but the nih did give money to an

organization that collaborated with that wuhan lab, $600,000, and it was a program that trump pulled in 2020. you know, when he sits up there in front of congress and tries to tweak the definitions and skirt around the issue, he was essentially the mouthpiece on the virus for the last two and a half years, right? americans trusted him. and now we're finding out that a lot of what he was telling us was not true. >> that's correct. and we should have known something was up as soon as he said that masks were not -- were ineffective and hen said, wait, wait, masks are are effective. we should have started to actually look at what he was saying and what the experts were saying a little bit more closely. there were some people that did. look, our governor here used data. he didn't really listen to those experts from washington, but used the data that he was looking at and we were compiling here in florida to determine how he was going to the fight the virus here in florida, and other governors did the same thing. and it turns out that they were

right, following the data and not following so much those experts from washington. jackie: yeah. and this is a bigger issue, right, because when we think about the impact not just on this country, but agross the globe -- across the globe, the economies at least stalled, the lives that were lost, the learning that was lost for our children, the mental health problem, the lockdowns, i could go on and on, congressman. so when you really think about the impact of this and look at it with respect to how china is viewing the world, looking to come the nate and take over as the world's largest superpower, you have to ask yourself why this administration is dancing around and tiptoeing around when it comes to these issues regarding china. >> well, because they've been politicized. instead of following the science which is really what we should be doing now that the science is coming out and saying, hey, these -- this is probably where it came from, these are the steps we need, we should have taken at the time. maybe masks were not effective. hey, maybe the vaccine has some

side effects, and we shouldn't be forcing young people to take the vaccine. you know, the administration -- it's okay to say, hey, we made a mistake, you know? if we were following our experts. we made a mistake. they're not going to do that. unfortunately, government has this knack for never admitting that it's wrong. and, you know, hey, government is just people, and people make mistakes all the time, you know? if so that's the reason why, if they admit they made a mistake, oh, my god, nobody's ever going to trust us again. no, i'll trust you more if you actually admit to your mistakes because, hey, at least they're honest, and they'll own up to it and move on. they won't do that. jackie: right. and it was also okay to say we don't know, we don't have all the answers, and we've got to do more to figure it out and be honest with the american people because this hit everybody by surprise. but i'm also looking at 7.2, that's how much china's increasing its military

spending, 7.2%. i'm watching china and russia and its relations with the united states in the wake of the chinese spy balloon, and i'm asking myself if it's time -- and so many people in the business with community are asking -- if it's time to try to really, you know, in earnest decouple from china because of the threat that it poses. >> no, the time is yesterday. we need to decouple from china. the threat that they pose is the biggest threat in my lifetime to this country and to the world, and i'm talking about the free world. and china has made, it's no secret that by 2049 they want to be the dominant economic power in the world, they want to be the dominant military power in the world, they want to be the dominant ideological power in the world, and their ideology is marxism. and, look, we tried our best to try to change them and change the course of chinese government, chinese communist party. we've only strengthened them, made them more powerful. they're more powerful economically. and so, yeah, the time to decouple is yesterday.

not today, yesterday. and i'm happy and i'm very glad that at least in the committee that i serve on, the china select committee on competition with the chai chinese -- chinese communist party, we have bipart an san support for that. now, it's not going to be easy, it's not going to be the without pain, but we have to take those steps right now. jackie: and while i have you, i want your a take on this "wall street journal" piece reporting on the chinese spy cranes this country potentially posing a threat here, as i mentioned before, in the wake of that chinese spy balloon coming down as well. a lot of people are looking at china and saying because the administration appears weak to president xi, he is taking advantage of this moment, he is seizing this moment. and there could be some trouble coming. >> yeah. and so, look, i've got two bills that deal with the spy cranes, something that actually was brought to my attention when i was the mayor of miami-dade county by my port people. they said, look, software that's installed in these cranes that

they bought from china, because china produces, like, 80% of all the cranes around the world, they knew what was being shipped, where it's being shipped around the world. also some of that spyware could actually get into the port systems, and the chinese could use it in a malicious way. so that's one bill which says all u.s. ports need to eliminate all these foreign -- this foreign software from their crane, and then there's another bill that gives grants to ports that are a acquiring cranes to buy cranes not built by a foreign adversary, that being china, because we need to have a different source. could you imagine if the chinese said to us, hey, we're not going to the supply any spare parts to you anymore? that's very, very dangerous. jackie: it's a serious problem. congressman carlos jimenez, thank you so much. >> god seeing you -- good seeing you too. jackie: president biden considering approval on the $8

billion will project in alaska. while the project has support from state and federal officials in alaska, environmental groups are saying if biden approves this, he would go against his campaign promise to end new oil and gas drilling on federal lands. grady trimble has the latest for us on capitol hill. grady. >> reporter: jackie, biden administration has signaled that the white house could approve the willow project, but a scaled-back version that might not make economic sense for the company behind it. conocophillips says the full project could crypt as many as 2,000 -- can crypt as many as -- could crypt as many as 2,000 construction jobs and 1.5% of the united states total oil production. alaska's lawmakers both here in congress and in the state legislature like the 10u7b8 of that. several of them met with president biden urging him to approve the full project, but environmental groups are fighting back. >> it's the blind faith that they have in their climate religion.

and everything else is secondary. we have the highest standards on production of oil and gas anywhere in the world. why would you not want to do it in america? >> reporter: separately, in a leaked memo about a natural gas project in alaska's cook inlet, a former biden administration official admitted with lower royalties on the project there would be additional government revenues and greater energy security for the state of alaska, but that official went on to recommend higher royalties to factor in climate change to the equation. so that gives you an idea, jackie, of where the biden administration's priorities are as it makes this important willow project decision. back to you. jackie: joining me now with reaction from house financial services, congressman french hill. congressman, it's great to be with you tonight. your reaction to the pending decision here. you know, in my view, i've watched president biden over and over again double down and dig his heels in on energy policy. do you think there is a cannes

that he might approve this project -- a chance that he might approve this project that would add 180,000 barrels a day to production? >> jackie, it's good to be with you. we need an all of the above energy policy. we're going to have a 50 need in more -- 50% need in more energy over the next 25-30 years, and about 50% of that is going to be produced by oil and natural gas. so here's a chance for president biden to get one right after two years of having one bad energy decision after another. so i would certainly encourage him to look out for energy incompanies, american jobs -- independence, american jobs and the need for american energy in the world and approve this location. jackie: there are a lot of critics who are outraged by the policy that the president has implemented when it comes to energy, and american families are suffering paying higher costs not only many in their homes, but also obviously prices are up still from when he was

inaugurated at the pump. having said that, this president prefers to take oil from opec, from venezuela rather than end encourage our companies to invest here at home. the companies have said we don't want to invest if you're going to put us how of business in just a few years, it's not worth it. and at the state of the union he made a joke and said we only need fossil fuels for, you know, another ten years. >> yeah. he's got it wrong for the past two years. we need oil, we we need natural gas, with we need dole, we need -- coal, we need nuclear. we need a policy where we can expand nuclear energy. if you want a carbon-free future, you ought to have nuclear investments not only in the united states, but around the world. and as i say, this is a chance for president biden to pivot away from his bad policies that's discouraging investment in the united states which is raising prices for american consumers and consumers around the world. jackie: let me ask you about jerome powell, because he's going to the testify later this week, and this is a fed chair who calls inflation transitory.

i think we have a sound bite. let's listen. >> we don't expect that upward pressure will produce substantially higher prices or that the effects will be persistent. we expect that they'll be transitory or temporary. increases in prices are likely to have only transitory effects on inflation. >> transitory -- >> transitory. >> transitory -- >> transitory. >> transitory. jackie: so do you expect a mea culpa when he testifies? because there are a lot of americans saying, wow, this wasn't transitory. >> nope, they got their talking points consistent and consistently wrong since the fourth quarter of 2020. we've got persistent and stubborn inflation, and now fed is lowering its balance sheet and raising interest rates to try to fight that inflation. but they're up against an avalanche of government spending which makes their job even harder. so i look forward to chairman

about anarchy and the attempt to destabilize. jackie: a mob of rioters broke into atlanta's, quote, cop city, a future police and fire training site and launched molotov cock a tails, bricks, rocks, fireworks at officers. atlanta police have identified 23 suspects, and all but 2 were actually arrested, and they're from out of state as well. joining me now is former new york city police commissioner howard safer. it's always great to see you. your reaction to the what happened in atlanta and what you think might be behind this. >> well, it's not unexpected at all. what's happening is there is a organized group of anti-police and anti-government people throughout the country. they go if from city to is city causing these kind of disturbances, and in cities like atlanta and portland and seat and chicago where crime is out of control, they are not concerned about getting arrested. it wouldn't surprise me if most

of the people who were arrested are already out on the street because these are not bailable offenses. the crazy bail laws that have been implemented is really hurting order and control in our cities. jackie: yeah. there's been a lot of outrage about january 6th, and rightly so, howard. having said that, you see incidents like this, and it almost seems as if there's selective outrage and you wonder why people aren't more upset when they see the kinds of pictures that we're showing the audience here. >> well, people have been desensitized to these types of things because they're happening so often. people look at them and say, well, it's not happening in my neighborhood right now, and those people are not going to be prosecuted. we have these leftist d.a.s who refuse to do what they were elected to do which is to enforce the law and prosecute crimes. it's no surprise to me at all. the only fortunate thing is nobody was killed. jackie: yeah. there was a realtor that lives

well are sort of sitting back. lori lightfoot's the only one that right now has been reprimanded to a certain degree with respect to her election. but your thoughts on how this progresses as we move forward. >> well, lori lightfoot not being reelected was a very good sign. and i hope we'll see that across the country. but we have to get back to what fixed it in the first place, aer isive the policing. constitutional but assertive policing. criminals need to be afraid of police. the public should not be afraid of the police. and what's happened now is criminals are not afraid of police. they can do things with impunity. now, look at these smash and grabs that are going on around the country. they've refused to call anything stolen under $1,000 a crime. that's outrageous. it really makes me angry. when i was police commissioner and the police commissioners that followed me up until de blasio became mayor, new york was the safest large city in

welcome back up. a second norfolk southern train derailed over the weekend in ohio. this is coming just weeks after the toxic train crash in east

palestine. the company is announcing new safety plans. residents are still on edge fox news is in chicago with moore, garrett. >> jackie, this easily could have been another chemical disaster really it's only by luck it wasn't. this train was about two and half miles long. you can see in this video the aftermath of the 28 cars falling off of the tracks. none of those cars were carrying hazardous materials. but 25 other cars on the train work, which is why an evacuation order was issued near the town of springfield, 50 miles west of columbus and prince could figure out if anything dangerous was spilled. this latest derailment is the fourth time in five months that he norfolk southern train has derailed in ohio. the states representatives are demanding answers. >> what we have seen recently with the risks to community is unacceptable. luckily it seems you may have missed a bullet in this one. >> the railroads continue to enrich at the expense of public safety and public health.

lay off workers and compromise on safety. >> today southern release six-point safety plan in response to derailment and east palestine which focuses on improvements to wheel bearings which the ntsb likely said crab because the crash. there also new indication of smithtown's air may not be completely safe. researchers from texas a&m and carnegie melon said other independent testing late last month did not write any concerning amounts of most chemicals there were occasionally concerning levels of the chemical acolyte which can cause lung damage when it's inhaled over a long period of time. the reachers also said at many point many of those long-term risks are still unknown. more independent testing is needed for folks who live there to feel safe. >> garrett, thank you for that for joining us now from house financial service congressmen warren davidson who is pushing for a hearing on train derailments. congressman, can you tell us what you are looking at said hearing and have you looked over

the six-point plan from the company, does it seem sufficient to you? >> looked, trusted not just the government but institutions and companies right now is at a big lope maybe not an all-time low but certainly at a low point. the immediate actions in the aftermath of the east palestine trade derailment caused a lot of people to have even more concerns. thanks to fox and foxbusiness are being one of the organizations that provided attention to this derailment, and now following up really to a host of derailments. i think the shocking status secretary of transportation buttigieg said there's over 1000 of these a year, a way to be kind of dismissive about the first train derailment in ohio about a month ago, the idea that is acceptable is shocking to a lot of people. now people are paying attention to all of them. this may had not have at hazmat on a still big public safety concern and hearings are needed

to highlight what exactly is the solution? >> it is interesting because people do judge, secretary of transportation is not asking these kinds of questions. he is not mapping out what a path forward looks like. that is angering many of the people living on the ground but across the country as well. as a matter fact these train derailments aren't necessarily isolated incident that happened in ohio pretty do believe we have a map showing some major incidents across the country for this is something that we have to try to think about moving forward. but where is buttigieg? where is he in the cleanup effort and restoring confidence not only in ohio but the system moving forward? >> it highlights what he took the job he was not well-qualified for it. he is not handled the pressure very well. i was encouraged this week he did kinda say oh yes, i did mess up. and acknowledging that is progress. hopefully he really does take it seriously. not just the event in east palestine but the broader problem. think the burden is to be on

companies like norfolk southern. we are seeing complaints all over the country about these companies. and frankly congress was asked to intervene in their labor disputes. the workforce has been highlands on the same concerns about the company's failing to invest in the equipment and the infrastructure, in the work workforce. we look at what is the right approach? i think the hearings will on earth though some of my colleagues have asked me too cosponsor legislation. let's first ready, aim, fire developed the legislation and advanced. i think people are right. i will lastly say we've had a lot of people call our office saying hey are these acts of sabotage? i think our intel community and law enforcement community should be weighing in on that. >> final question comes the company itself, do you think is doing enough on the ground to help people there? there are some major concerns still about the drinking water even though the epa said it is find the air quality, the soil, many things to worry about. quick let's say up front clearly they did not do enough for the train would not have derailed.
