stuart: i want you back by in sync. the boy bland. you wouldn't described beatles as a boy band would you? lauren: the girls were not just drooling and cheering for them at the concerts? stuart: i'm sorry got into this. good morning, everyone, 10:00 eastern. to the money, not much action. coupled inflation reports coming out tomorrow and thursday, the stock market, dow was up 19, nasdaq down 27. the 10 year treasury yield is at 3. 42%, well %, well below 3%. price of oil at $80 a barrel, bitcoin, this is the big story
10:02 am
in financial news, bitcoin is above $30,000 a coin, the highest since june of last year. that's the markets. and now this. more talk makes me nervous and there's plenty of more talk these days. if trump was still president things might be different but president biden is in the oval office and after afghanistan he is perceived as weak. china carried out simulated precision attacks on taiwan targets. america's amphibious reconnaissance battalion is on the island, special operations unit just like the navy seals. a wrong move on either side. president biden has not picked up the phone to talk to xi jinping. he makes a point of not answering media questions. maybe that's good diplomacy but silence encourages anxiety.

the release of secret documents puts us in the middle of the ukraine work with the biggest security breach in decades, it's remarkably detailed. it outlines the status of every ukrainian brigade including the precise number of shells and rockets they fire every day, detail exactly how many missiles the ukrainian air defense system still hasn't when they will run out. also spelled out as the state of the russian military, not good at all. read these documents and you are plunged into the war in ukraine. it is a pivotal period, russia stalled, ukrainians about to mount a spring campaign. i'm pretty sure that president biden did not want to be a wartime president but that is where we are and that is what we have, second hour of varney just getting started.
10:04 am
let's bring in the former governor of arkansas, mike huckabee. there's a lot of war talk. makes me feel nervous. i think it's very ominous. how do you see it? >> it's exactly what you described. these are dangerous times. i was just in taiwan three weeks ago. there's an enormous level of anxiety because the chinese continue to do some serious saber rattling and they are truly concerned what biden might do to stand with them. the good news, i will give credit to republicans and democrats that there's a united front at least in congress, nancy pelosi's visit to taiwan, kevin mccarthy having hosted president tsai ing-wen but nothing from biden to push back on the chinese coming as party and the reason this is a compromise president when it comes to the chinese.

10:06 am
stuart: conventional wisdom is trump is gaining support because of the indictment and come primaries and the debates he will win because his base will stay intact, but he can't win the general. i keep hearing this. where do you stand on that? >> i think he can win the general. the dumbest thing anyone ever says is donald trump should back out of the primary because of the indictment, he should go full steam ahead. if he pulls out because he is under attack then look for every republican who runs for office to get indicted for something because that is how the democrats play ball. if we want to completely lose and look like bosses and i use that term rather than the one that came to mind, if we want to be that, then all we have to

is regional banks stop lending. if we've seen the numbers the last two weeks, credit cards have fallen off a cliff, they will shut off the economy by not lending to commercial real estate or manufacturing, that is going to be a big problem. everyone thinks the banking crisis has been put on the side but underneath that i did a story myself that the last two weeks have been very dire when it comes to lending, the credit crunch we are seeing, that the precursor for recession and maybe we don't get the recession, we get something that could be worse. i don't think the fed does anything quickly. i don't think we will see a short, sharp recession or a deep long one. i think it will take a really long time to get there because things go so slowly. the ppi and cpi this week, we have a wait and see on that, see if the fed stopped raising interest rates. those will all take time.
