5:02 pm
live at the white house with more. edward? reporter: hey, liz. gasbuddy is warning a 15-$0.25 jump in gas prices for those folks in the north east and mid-atlantic, because of a number of factors but triple a is saying as you saw the gas prices are rising $0.07 in the past week, $0.23 over the past month. gasbuddy founder patrick de haan says oil prices have switched to summer gas blend and increased demand played a role in this yet beyond the summer depends on the economy. >> it's a question of supply opec just cutting it, but if americans consume less, we may not see as much pain from that decision to cut production, so if the economy starts accelerating again, in the summer and fall, that opec decision is going to have much more of a bite. reporter: and we will never hear from the white house. they need a slowdown or a recession for gas prices. the argument here at the white house is that gas is not as high as it was a year ago.
5:03 pm
$4 a gallon you remember though president joe biden when he came into office gas was $2.39 a gallon. now in the confirmation hearing for white house economic advisor jarrod bernstein, senator steve danes pushed about changing energy policies. >> the pipeline generates a lot less carbon than by rail or by truck so why not use a pipeline? >> so again, senator, i'm happy if confirmed to get into -- >> okay, i don't believe it. >> the keystone pipeline does not produce more oil. >> it moves more oil. >> the biden administration produces more oil. >> it's laughable to think the biden administration somehow pro-oil and pro-natural gas and pro-coal. reporter: and right now, there are no plans by president biden to address the rise in gas prices at this moment. liz: got it, edward lawrence great reporting let's welcome to the show look whose here. former reagan art laffer and grover norquist with americans for tax reform. gentlemen, thank you so much. all right, let's start with you. american standard of living is
5:04 pm
taking hits. all-in inflation is above 13% since biden took office. new monmouth poll more than half of voters 51% say the middle class has not benefited all from biden's policies so why is the white house gas lighting its off the hook? do you think speaker mccarthy is going to get the 218 votes to pass the house republicans debt ceiling resolution to limit government spending? >> let me just say, i don't know why the white house does anything, liz. i really just don't. they have been doing bad policies the whole time here, and whether mccarthy gets something or not depends upon whether he can keep the cohesive group in the house together to be able to negotiate as a unit. i don't know if he can do that. i have my doubts because then margin is so narrow, i have my doubts that they can really hold the line tough, but if he can, he could get good stuff in there like work fair or some of the other stuff there, some of the cuts, but the real substantive cuts will come a year and a half from now in 202s
5:05 pm
right in front of us. liz: yeah, so you know, but to what art is just saying, grover, there's a lot of common sense stuff the republicans want to do clawback pandemic spending. spending caps. no to biden's astronomical student loan bailout. republicans are saying president biden would rather create a debt crisis, because he doesn't want to negotiate. what do you think, grover? >> well, there are two different issues here. one is what's good for the country, and the other is what's good for the structure s of the modern democratic party, and the modern democratic party is made up of a collection of competing parasites, all of which need more money, and so biden has to go out there and lie, if you want, or tell fibs or exaggerate about how wonderful it is to raise taxes and spend more money, because that's what his base in cysts on if they are going to turn out the vote for the next election, so he would rather have a weak economy but well-fed troops than the other way around.
5:06 pm
liz: so what grover just said, art, i'd like your reaction to president biden today, trying to claim that tax cuts are "maga." this is off the chain. this is really off the hook, art these are the same kinds of tax cuts that jfk and bill clinton were for. watch president biden here. >> republicans and congress support more than $3 trillion in tax cuts and give-aways over the next 10 years toward those at the very top of the agenda, and the income agenda. liz: your reaction, art? >> i think that it's crazy what he's saying. it's counter-factual. every time we've raised the highest tax rate in america, elizabeth, every time the economy has gone into the doldrums, the poor have been damaged and revenues have fallen those are the facts. it's not an opinion. those are the facts of 110 years , 108 years of data from the irs, and i loved, i loved grover's phrase, he wants well- fed troops even with a weak economy. what a cool phrase.
5:07 pm
grover i'm going to steal that from you. i think it's really true. it shows exactly what's happening. liz: you know, so i love the phrase too. grover, listen. >> it's terrific. liz: we're 31 trillion in debt. biden has a not serious budget of 6.8 trillion. nobody thinks that's a serious budget. watch kevin mccarthy here. >> americans have received a pay cut for 24 consecutive months. the longest streak in american history as inflation has just persisted. in fact, since president biden took office, families have lost the equivalent of $7,400 worth of income. liz: what do you think? this is what biden's approve rating has been trending around 37%. final word, grover. >> biden's popularity has gone
5:08 pm
down because the economy is doing poorly, but again, remember what obama told us. he would rather have a high capital gains tax even if it meant losing revenue, because it played into the envy politics that's part of his base, so poverty is not the enemy. successful people are the enemy. liz: yeah, and it's a tragedy what's going on. you know, guys, i have to leave it here, but you know, we have been watching the polling coming out. this president is trending the worst in in indiana approval ratings since truman. biden is now below every president since then. it's good to see you art laffer and grover norquist. >> it's going for good reasons. liz: we hear you. all right we'll have you guys back on good to see you. let's welcome to the show look whose here, congressman of the house ways and means and former all-american swimmer at the university of kentucky riley gains, thank you for joining us. congressman let's move to you.
5:09 pm
the white house is saying it will veto the bill you sponsored aimed at keeping biological out of women sports at colleges and public schools. your reaction. >> first of all it's not surprising given their woke progressive agenda but i'll say this. i think the american people deserve to know where their members of congress are on this. i'm very happy that speaker mccarthy is going to bring it up for a vote here, so every member is going to have an opportunity to vote and then we'll send that bill to the senate, and ask the senate to bring it up for a vote as well. liz: what do you think of this , riley? we've got 22 states with laws on the books that do this. we saw what happened when you were physically assaulted at san francisco state university. you know, and now the white house is now moving to change title 9 to allow transgender athletes to compete against women. what's your take on all of this , riley? >> what the biden administration is doing is undermining the women who fought relentlessly to get equal equal opportunity in sports. it's amazing that they're doing
5:10 pm
this and being inclusive and kind but in reality this is not inclusive. this is excluding the female athletes who title 9 was created to protect so i'm so incredibly grateful for the leadership of representative stubey, and tenne y, all of the co- sponsors for really standing up to this. it's crucial. we as women, deserve safety and deserve privacy and equal opportunity. liz: riley, let me just stay with you for a second on this. more and more reports are surfacing of women athletes getting injured. physically injured in competition with transgender athletes. we're seeing it in volleyball, hockey, lacrosse and more. australia just stopped a transgender athlete from playing on a women's basketball team so that's an under-reported story about women athletes getting injured on the field. >> absolutely it is. it raises the question, you know , why don't we see trans men or biological females competing against the men? and i can tell you why. it's because these women, they would never be competitive with men. this only goes one way and it
5:11 pm
only goes in the way that is equivalent to the erasing of women and safety is a big part of it. of course men are on average taller, stronger, more powerful, faster. any sport where you have to worry about physical contact, there is the risk of being injured by a male. liz: so you know the thing is, congressman, what riley is saying. should there be a push for a trans league? >> no. i think we have two leagues. there's the men's league and women's league. congress created women's sports in the 70s over 50 years ago, specifically to give women an equal playing field as it relates to sports, and congress created it because they can't as riley said obviously compete with men on the same playing field because of the differences in our physicalness and it needs to be just like we've had for those 50 years and every attempt by biological males to compete with women goes against and attacks women's sports and
5:12 pm
this bill will rectify that and protect women's sports and like riley from doing exactly what they need to do and not having their titles stolen by biological men. liz: yeah, and riley, people say that you have compassion for transgendered individuals, right? but the issue is should they just have their own league where they are competing against each other, riley? >> you know, this one is hard. i think there's no perfect solution that would result in compassion showing for everyone but right now what's happening is we're neglecting the compassion for women. of course women on average makeup 51% of the population. we're catering to the minority here. that's what's happening so the left tries to make this about humanity and feelings but whose taking into account our feelings as women? again and so it brings the question, how can you value one group's mental health, self- perception feelings over the other but right now what's happening is the opposite of what a democracy really is.
5:13 pm
liz: so what's happening too is women athletes are not getting the sponsorships that male athletes are getting. they aren't getting as much scholarship money as male athletes are getting, and i'd like to get your reaction, congressman, to olympic gold medalist donna dironna speaking out about the need for a reasonable approach. >> riley gains is not alone. she's got a lot of us veterans behind her but where is middle america? wake up, mothers and fathers. start speaking out. when you get to scholarships, when you get to fairness and safety, we have to come up with a reasonable way to deal with this population. >> apparently a lot of america feels like they've had an agenda shoved down their throat on this issue, that they feel has real-world consequences for them and their children. do they have a point when it comes to trans issues? this seems to be no room for debate. you have to accept everything they say, or else you are a big ot. liz: what do you think, congressman? >> yeah, i agree with his
5:14 pm
perspective on that and i don't think, there already is a reasonable solution. that reasonable solution is you compete in the gender that you are in that athletic competition. it's that easy, if you're a biological male, you compete in the mens team and if you're a biological female you compete on the women's team. we've created title 9 to protect women's sports and create women 's sports so they have an equal playing field to compete with one another. liz: but today, testimony, riley , and democrats are saying, you know, if you do question this , you're a bigot. education secretary cardona in testimony today would not say if it's fair for male athletes to identify as a female and go on to dominate women's sports so the democrats are acting like if you even question it you're a bigot. >> that's what i've been experiencing this past year which is what makes this movement so special in a way that they are actively trying to make us deny science, truth, and quite frankly, common sense under again the disguise
5:15 pm
of being kind and inclusive and accepting and tolerant and lov ing and all these things, but in reality what it is we're lying to ourselves when we're denying the shear essence, essentially, of humanity we're denying man and woman. today i saw a video of someone on the biden administration again refusing to acknowledge what a woman is. how have we gotten to the point where this is controversial, i simply don't understand. liz: thanks for joining us tonight. we'll stay on this story. okay we've got new developments coming in, a new senate report revealing powerful new evidence the covid pandemic broke out much earlier in china than has been reported, and from two separate lab leaks, and it keeps growing. government documents indicate six more biden family members profited from cashing in and biden's government job overseas. republicans say they are finding even more biden family corruption is even deeper than realized. plus, a new poll americans demand energy independence. half of americans now support oil drilling in alaska and elon

5:23 pm
