larry: all right, my last word's real simple, we have to look into kamala harris once again. she could be commander if in chief. we need to retire joe and kamala, and everybody's got to the watch liz macdonald -- elizabeth: you're the best of the best, larryly. thank you so much. that was a terrific show. really good stuff. okay, at this hour polls show this fight is now backfiring on
5:01 pm
president biden. the is debating right now, getting ready to vote on the republican debt ceiling perjury of spending cuts. let's get right to it with jason chaffetz, economic pro carol roth. thanks for joining us. first to you, congressman. democrats manchin, klobuchar saying, bide, you've got to negotiate -- biden, you've got to negotiate. it's not maga to the claw back wasted pandemic spending or bring back spending to just 202 the levelings, jason. >> yeah. and when you hear speaker mccarthy say it's been months since the president would even engage on this issue, joe biden, the entire premise of his presidency was the idea he knew how to bring people together. why not have the discussion? even democrats are critical of biden, because for him to not sit down and talk about this issue is really a bad look. elizabeth: what jason just said, it's a bad look around the globe, carol, because this spending is slamming the dollar around the world, and we've got more nations moving away from
5:02 pm
using it. and the polls show voters are really upset this inflationary spending has dropped their standard of living. >> and they should be. i'm going to let you guys in on a secret, i know you're going to be shocked about this, but the debt ceiling isn't working. [laughter] i know this is a shock, but obviously it has not kept us from spending more. we have $31 and almost a half trillion in debt. they have modified the debt ceiling almost a hundred times, so hay needed to do something else. and this is an actual attempt to try to get spending under control which we need both here e in the united states for that cost of living and, as you said, liz, for what's happening on the international stage. if we don't get that under control, it will mean an even worse standard of living back here in the united states. elizabeth: yeah, that's right. china's moving pretty rapidly around the world to get the yuan, but the u.s. has a transparent market, that's e what supports the dollar. jaceen, republicans targeting three dozen vulnerable house
5:03 pm
democrats. they could lose their seats. they're saying biden ooh's trying to deal. president biden held a rare press conference today, he called on scripted list of reporters. new york times says he's at the bottom, ranked near the bottom of the lows with press conference, jason. >> yeah. communication, the spoken word should be a core competency for a president, but it's really not. he doesn't like speaking, he almost never answers questions. the number of press conferences, his availability to the american people and the american press is an embarrassment. and usually when he goes to the microphone, it's, you know, an amazing moment because he's spitting out a word salad or something that makes no sense whatsoever. and kamala harris, by the way, she ain't much better at this. elizabeth: yeah. so the white house is doing that, they're also railroading, railroading america, they're railroading things through like making energy costs more expensive, you know? they're making mortgages more expense i have for good credit borrowers to subsidize those
5:04 pm
with bad credit, they're weakening the border all without congress, carol. >> yeah. and the scary thing is not only is it without congress, but we don't actually know who's in charge because, to jason's point, you know, listening to the president it's pretty clear that he's not the one making these decisions. we know that kamala harris is not likely making these decisions. he's had so much turnover if you think about crane and d.c. and now rice, who are the people who are making these decisions that he's the front person for, because we don't even know who to negotiate with to get back our country. elizabeth: you know, let's watch what happened today. first you're going to the see the president look down at a pre-approved list of reporters and who to call on. you're going to see wonners about the supply chain, his -- whoppers about the supply chain, his age and more. >> now we're going to the take some questions. all of a sudden everybody started to learn the phrase supply chain. a year ago no one knew what the hell anybody was talking about.
5:05 pm
with regard to age, i can't even say -- i guess how old i am, i can't even say the number. that doesn't register with me. it's generated significant economic growth many america. and, by the way, it's creating jobs in, in south korea. it's creating jobs many in south korea -- in south korea and, you know, the idea that i have is absolute authority as commander in chief and the sole authority to use a nuclear weapon. elizabeth: so he's talking about nuclear weapons, carol. in this goes on like this, trump is going to tear into him. he's already out with a video warning about the possible consequences of a second biden term. china's going to invade taiwan, more bank failures, bad border collapses and crime, carol. >> yeah. he's a threat to our economic security, he's a threat to our national security. you know, it's no surprise that the things that didn't happen urn trump are now happening -- under trump are now happening under biden. this is the biggest gift that we could give the international
5:06 pm
community and folks like russia and they that who would be so happy to supplant the u.s. and, you know, in terms of our economic and our military superpower. when with you have this guy as the guy in charge, it makes us look weak. and the reality is we are weak. elizabeth: what carol just said, jason, biden's now got a terrible track record to defend. he didn't have that in 2020 the. he has a track record. his approval rating, jason, is trending below 40% where incumbents lose. i mean, new cbs poll, less than a quarter, 22 of democrats, only 22% of democrats are excited about biden running again. more than twice that say he should not run. >> yeah. one of the big things that he said at the press conference which is absolutely not even close e to the truth is he said his approval numbers are similar to past presidents. nobody has been as low as joe. i mean, that's just never happened. for him to go to the microphone, for instance, and say nobody was
5:07 pm
talking about supply chain, nobody even knew what it was, what an affront -- every single business i've ever interacted with knows exactly what a supply chain is and how pivotal and importants. and for joe biden to think that he can go through this process with no debates also speaks to the idea he can't defend his record, and he can't even articulate what he has done. elizabeth: what jason just said, final word, carol. biden's now deploying a dozen democrat governors to do his campaigning for him. his launch video claimed democracy was under attack, virtually said nothing about how americans feel their wallets and kitchen tables are under attack from his record inflation fueled by his government overspending. >> yeah. i think jason just gave the president a new nickname, low joe, that reflects his poll numbers. but the reality is they have not been investing in america, they have been fleecing the middle class. and 81 million people voted for this, liz. i hope that they're looking and paying attention when they go to the grocery store, looking at
5:08 pm
the register, looking in their bank accounts and saying we cannot afford four more years of this. elizabeth: you know, i'm telling you if trump comes out and sets this race on his terms, if he hammers it it is and sets the narrative and sets the terms of the debate, he's going to win. that's what's going to the happen, you know? americans see that this president has been gaslighting them, railroading them and misleading them for two years. jason chaffetz, carol roth, thank you so much for joining us. we've got this hot story, a news update, teachers union chief randy weingarten faced a losses file -- hostile congress. triggered a mental health crisis for children. lydia hu is live9 with the story. lydia. >> reporter: hi there, liz. yeah, it was a confrontation aal hearing this afternoon that is still going on now after it got started close to 2:20 the this this afternoon. weingarten tried to convince gop lawmakers that the union was
5:09 pm
committed to trying to reopen schools. meanwhile, the gop lawmakers were trying to get a better -- more insight into the union's relationship with the biden administration. weingarten at one point claiming it was the biden transition team that first reached out to the union. watch this. >> when was the first time you engaged with cdc in any way, shape or form directly? >> the first time? >> yes. >> was when they asked us to do the zoom -- i think the first time -- look, i'm 65 years old, i don't remember everything anymore, i'm sorry. >> me too. >> reporter: liz, there was also point questioning around the cdc's adoption of revisions to the school reopening policy that was suggested by the union. >> what happened was there was one particular edit that they accepted. there were several different ideas that we proposed. >> now you've answered my
5:10 pm
question, thank you. >> sorry, i'm just slow. >> reporter: and representative ronnie jackson of texas pointed out that not only did cuds suffer from school closures, liz, but taxpayers footed the bill for the closures when congressional located $190 billion to rope schools. reopen schools. >> keep the schools closed, let people stay home and draw paychecks, demand money from the biden administration to reopen schools, use that money to promote horrible social programs in our schools once they finally reopened. provide pay increases to your members with federal taxpayer money and, lastly, use the dues from your members to pay off the democrats that make it all possible. >> reporter: and the democrats in this harding, liz, pointed -- can hearing, liz, pointed the finger not at randi weingarten, but instead at former president trump. they blamed him for a lack of what they said was correction that led e to a fail failure -- direction that that led e to a failure to reopen the schools.
5:11 pm
>> thank you, lydia hu. nicole neily is back with us along with a virginia dad, he's terry schilling. terry pulled all of his six children out of public school many in virginia. first to you, nicole. what's your reaction to weingarten's testimony today? she's not apologizing for school shutdowns. >> i mean, my reaction is that we should call nina jack visits. she accepted no responsibility, trying to pretend she cares about children, a lot of virtue signaling. we know the role that she played, that she worked hand in glove to keep schools closed while they shook down the taxpayers for billions of collars. inexcusable. elizabeth: what do you think, terry? >> look, the men federation of teachers spends over $200 million a year on public relations campaigns and government lobbying, and it's absolutely disgusting. parents can't compete with that. we really need to come in and do some union reform.
5:12 pm
this american federation of teachers represents half of all education bureaucrats in this country. it's disjust gusting, and parents are at a big disadvantage in fighting back. elizabeth: so what terry just said, nicole, reports coming in the teachers' union chief was accused of working to change the language on the cdc's school reopening guidance, keeping schools shut. that expert, you know, experts are saying that the science never justified that. at the same time, they're pocketing tons of money, and schools are getting tons of u.s. taxpayer money, nicole. >> well, we were told that absolutely we have to pass these rescue plans because that was going to keep schools, that was going to get schools open. it was going to be used for air purifiers, masks, sanitation. most of the money has not been spent, and it's actually gone to democrat pet projects. social-emotional learning, critical race theory, dei initiatives. so at the end of the day, this was just a shakedown, and it's despicable. as we know, inflation's at a
5:13 pm
record high, so this hurt our children and continues to hurt taxpayers. elizabeth: terry, loudoun county public if schools in virginia now plans to spend $11 million in taxpayer money to build new gender-neutral bathrooms in two high schools next fall. why do they continue to treat students and children as the unconsenting thought experiment subjects, you know, of their untested policies? why are girls supposed to silence their discomfort and share spaces with boys who could be older with them in the bathroom? that's unsafe. have they shown any research on this? what are the data points showing that this is good for childrensome that what's their proof to do this? >> well, liz, i think by this time we should all know that this is not about educating our kids, this is about indoctrinating them, it's about creating little, mini revolutionaries. i pulled my kids out of fairfax county schools, 32% of kids can read at grade level. they're spending $19,000 per pupil here.
5:14 pm
this is disgusting. in the 1960s, liz, we had an education system that put men on the moon, now we don't even have kids that can spell mississippi without googling it. it's a travel is city. they're more -- travesty. they're more intent on pushing wokism. elizabeth: terry, have they shown any evidentiary proof, any research showing that this is good for schoolgirls, to share bathrooms with boys older than them? >> no. and we don't need the research to do that. we already have the criminal case in loudoun county alone are. i'm so shocked. but then again i'm not because of with how e evil and corrupt these people are. there was a girl that was raped last year by one guy, and they moved him to the another school and he raped another girl. this is out of control, and these a idealogues are covering it all up. people need to go to jail, liz are. this is causing so much damage, and our kids aren't learning. there's no benefit to any of this garbage. elizabeth: yeah, these people
5:15 pm
should be fired there these school boards. it's still going on. nicole, what do you think? school shutdowns that the teachers' union chief did advocate even though she said later on she was against them. the shutdowns have been blaine blamed for a lot of these crazy policies, and now you've got more than two dozen states eliminating the perjury powers of governments and elected officials in pandemic. what do you think about what forly was just talking about -- terry was just talking about? >> the same people with who brought us the mental health crisis in our schools are now saying give us more money, and we'll fix it. i'm sorry, no. the department of education has said to implement their forthcoming title ix sports rule which would force all the schools across the country to integrate their bathrooms and locker rooms, the department of education said it only cost $34 million total over enthe years. that's impossible. we are being gaslit. they are lying to us, and we must protect our children. elizabeth: nicole neily, terry schilling, thanks for coming on tonight.
