nomination for president. it also has a booming economy, and a record breaking number of people who want to live and vacation there. in short, the sunshine state, a republican state, is doing very well. the left can't have that. got to trash it somehow. it's an all hands-on deck slim ing effort. the borders on the ridiculous. in comes the naacp telling black people, don't go. be aware of the open hostility towards african americans and people of color. how come the naacp chair leon russel lives in tampa and board members seem to have a lot of fun vacationing there and how come black kids do better on average in math and reading in florida than black kids in maryland when the naacp is headquartered? on monday a gay black female guest on nsnbc said florida is about to be a terrorist state. doesn't that seem just a little over-the-top? in st. cloud just outside orlando, organizers canceled a

their characterization of florida not only are people going but they're going okay? the one woman who you just show ed on msnbc, who said it's becoming a terrorist state just admitted she was there with her family for spring break. nothing like a good family trip to a terrorist zone. i remember booking ours to afghanistan after 9/11. come on, kids. the problem, stu, we're living in the death of shame. people will say anything into a camera with no regard for whether or not there's factual evidence to support it. florida is clearly not a place openly hostile towards anyone because if that were the case people wouldn't be moving there in the record numbers they are so again this is what you called it out to be which is a smear campaign against desantis, supported by nothing. especially not their utility bills which all happen to be in the state of florida. stuart: okay, you got that right i've got another one for you. parents are now suing elite schools for indoctrinating kids with woke ideologies. okay? do you think maybe the tide is beginning to turn, just a little >> this is what is happening.

they used to be a massive gap between what people believed and what they were willing to say outloud. okay? the democrats are so effective at waging social pressure campaigns, kind of like what we talked about in florida. it's never armed in fact. when you have the facts pound the facts and when you have nothing pound the table. the democrats are pounding the table when it comes to men against women in sports. any fact we have to support that would tell you men have a biological advantage but the democrats have pounded the table so aggressively that a lot of people just backed away because they didn't want the backlash. you are starting to see now a little more of an emboldening of parents because we are living in america where one in three kids can't read at a grade level. the idea that we're editing children's books to get certain language out, like how about teach them to read the books before we ban the books? maybe prioritize education over giving the kid a lap dance from some guy named cinnabun at a drag show. i don't know what to make of the world now. i'm glad i'm not in school.

not that it would affect me because i didn't go to class clearly. stuart: i don't know where to start. >> i'm not messing around on "varney." stuart: that's pretty good. you hit the big time. >> [laughter] take off the apron, we're going out tonight. stuart: [laughter] jimmy, we'll see you next week. good man. back to the markets, please. it's kind of a go nowhere market at this point. dow is up 2, nasdaq is down i'm sorry, nasdaq down 16, s&p down 10. that's not much movement. murphy is here, thank goodness. all eyes on the debt. this is the story on wall street at the moment. will it get a deal? >> that's a tough act to follow but i'm going to try. we will most certainly get a deal; however, what's the timeframe on the deal? what happens between today and the time a deal comes, because if we get some negative news out around the negotiations, you could see a sell-off in the market. you will see a sell-off in the market but a debt deal will come and will be past this and the market will be looking at

innovation and we'll be looking at earnings, we'll be looking at the economy, and all signs, stuart, point to higher marketplaces. stuart: how far are we away from a new bull market? >> so we hit our lows in october. since that time, we've rallied on the s&p 500 17% off the lows. the nasdaq is already up over 20 %. the technical definition of a bull market is a 20% rally, so within the next week to two weeks or for sure, on the signing of the debt deal, the market will the broad market s&p 500 will officially be in a new bull market territory. that will cause a lot of money that's on the sidelines, a lot of people who come on the air and say so many negative things about the market, to capitulate, put money into the market and that will again be a catalyst for new higher prices. stuart: is it just a mathematical equation? analysts on wall street say that we're 20% off the lows. that's the magic number, 20%? that means we start to buy. is it just a mathematical

equation? >> it's not so simple but yes, because no one out there whose managing money professionally wants to be on the sidelines when people are hearing about bull markets and they are reading about watching "varney" & company and hearing bull market, bull market, so they eventually have to say okay, well all this negative stuff i've been talking about or waiting for? maybe it's not coming to fruition. i'm getting in. stuart: i just remember the good old days up until november of 2021 i think it was. man, you could just throw darts at a board and you pick a stock that would go straight up. those days are gone for now. >> they are gone but we talk a lot about innovation and big tech on this program and if you look at those companies, a lot of those companies are sitting at or right near all-time highs stuart: that's true. >> so higher prices than back in 2021 so i think we're in a good place right now. stuart: you always think we're in a good place. >> it's either that or you move. stuart: you're always happy. >> i am. stuart: stay there, you're with me for the hour, you devil. glutton for punishment i should say. lauren has got the movers

including apple. there's a story and a good one. lauren: a new multi-billion dollar deal with broadcom to make more made in america chips. broadcom will develop 5gg radio frequency components at several facilities right in the u.s. including colorado. stuart: i think we've got bad news from lowe's home improvement. lauren: the stock is up, because i think home depot and their results scared the market and analysts are saying well lowe's isn't great but maybe could have been worse so they cut their annual forecast saying customers are pulling back, delaying those big home improvement projects and they put a number on it. if you look at their average ticket, they say it's down by .3 %, or spending less money, but again, stock up reversed course because i think analysts are looking into it saying it could have been worse. stuart: okay, autozone. the auto parts retailer. lauren: it was worse. volume is very heavy and autozone shares are down over 5% this is an inventory pileup. they increased prices on some parts, and they did not sell them as a result.

nothing more than a stunt. all right, ashley. come on in. people are still flocking to florida though, despite all these statements. ashley: by the millions. florida saw a record number of tourists, in fact, in the first three months this year nearly 38 million. that's up almost 7% over last year's record high, and while the naacp's decision to announce a travel advisory for the state of florida, it got a lot of media attention, florida governor himself ron desantis did not bite but the governor's office did. a spokesman did tweet a mock travel advisory of his own, warning the public of listening to so-called publicity stunts, also saying that the travel advisory is being openly hostile to the truth. florida state republican leader christian zegler is pointing out leon russel, chairman of the naacp's board of directors has lived in florida for many years and he tweets, "if you think our state is so bad, the florida gop will help with

moving costs." ouch. russel, by the way, responded that last night. take a listen. >> first of all, [inaudible] and secondly need to understand it's not about money, it's about people and humanity and second and thirdly, quite frankly, we haven't told anybody to leave. in fact the naacp is encouraging folks to stay here and fight. ashley: well, meanwhile, even some democrats in the state though seem miffed by the advisory by the mayors of tampa and st. petersburg tweet ing that everyone is welcome and safe in their cities as for the governor himself he's not responded directly to the travel advisory since it was issued. i think that's because he's focusing on maybe a campaign announcement that could come this week, maybe tomorrow. i don't think this is going to do anything and i think it will be quickly forgotten. stu? stuart: only time will tell. remember that one? okay thanks very much. ashley: yes, indeed.

stuart: look whose here now, one of our favorite energy guys. his name is dan eberhart, visit ing us today in new york city. now, dan eberhart, strangely, is a desantis guy. you're in the oil business. you're an energy guy. >> i am. stuart: i would have thought you want to drill, baby drill, just like trump wanted to do. why are you with desantis? >> well i do want to drill, baby drill, but i think governor desantis has a proven track record in florida of economic growth and standing up for conservative values, and that he has long coat tails and i think that that's what the republican party needs. i think that's what the country needs is more leadership like what governor desantis has done in florida, so i think he's the best bet for the future. trump did a good job. trump got stuff done, but we need to look to the future and we need a proven conservative leader that can win and that's ron desantis. stuart: what's wrong with trump? in a nutshel what's wrong with him? >> nothing is wrong with trump but i think voters want to turn the page and vote primary voters are going to want a strong

leader that can lead in the future. governor desantis can serve two terms, he's shown what he can do in florida and he's ready for this and the person to take on joe biden and win. ron desantis has long coat tails donald trump doesn't. stuart: okay that's a neat summation of it. let's turn to energy and oil. >> sure. stuart: i know the government is trying to replace the strategic petroleum reserve. i know that's going to cost a lot of money. you're the energy guy. how much is it going to cost? >> look, it's going to cost, they want to buy about, they released 180 million-barrels last year, want to buy 60 million-barrels in the next quarter and they are trying to do this somewhere around $70 a barrel but i think it's ultimately going to cost hundreds of millions of dollars. they have completely miss timed this , and if i hair stuart i'd want to pull it out. what the administration has done with the strategic petroleum reserve is anything but strategic. it hasn't help consumers. it hasn't helped our national security, and now we're just left with a big old bill and you know, consumers as you're

filling up your car this summer, as you're filling up your car this fall think about the fact you're competing with the u.s. government whose also buying oil in the market to replenish what biden released for the 2022 mid-terms. then one more point, stuart. in addition to this , while the biden administration was pulling down the strategic petroleum reserve, china was adding to this strategic petroleum reserve and an absolute unmitigated disaster what this administration has done on energy. stuart: i've got oil at $73 a barrel now. if we propose to buy 60 million- barrels on the open market in the next three or four months, does the price of oil go way up from $73 a barrel? >> it's absolutely, it absolutely will. look it's normal supply and demand and especially what you're going to see is you're going to see the spread between brent crude and wti shrink as the administration views to basically cover up for what they did last year in 2022 for the mid-terms. it's an absolutely ridiculous scenario we're in. it's just bad leadership.

republicans are calling on president biden to disa disa vow john kerry's remarks which targeted farmers. ashley, remind me. what did he say about farmers that's so bad? ashley: well, if i must, he took aim at farmers for polluting the environment, claiming that agriculture production creates 33% of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions, while in response to that, a group of 27 house republicans are now calling on biden and ag secretary tom vilsack to reject kerry's comments on food production emissions the letter says in part, "we strongly urge you to denounce ke rry's remarks. these comments are a blatant slap in the face to the hard working individuals that spend their lives producing our world 's food, fuel, and fiber." the letter also notes that america's ag sector accounts for just 1.4% of global emissions, and has implemented a wide range of new solutions that

congressman? >> i am optimistic, because i mean, remember, speaker mccarthy said clear back on january 12, hey, joe biden sit down and negotiate with me and president biden said no, no, no, just keep giving me more money, even though we've had record spending , record inflation, record debt, just give me more money, no strings attached. that's not how it works and the country understands that so the position we've taken is the reasonable republican position that the common sense position the democrats have taken the default position frank had it so i do think we'll get a lot here and what we're saying if we get this , stuart, what speaker mccarthy and republicans want is let's spend less this year than we spent last year. that has never happened. in my time in congress that has not happened so this be huge. if we can get that plus some good work requirements that will help our economy and frankly help people who are trapped in our welfare system, i think those are good things that we're pushing for and most importantly , the american people think they are common sense. stuart: have you got the absolute unity of republican s in the house because that's what you're going to need you can't afford to lose two or

three votes you have to have everybody on board with this thing. >> i do think we'll come together because again it's so common sense. it's so reasonable and it's so needed. i mean, the democrats all give us a clean debt. the problem is the $31 trillion debt that continues to grow. if for the first time in decades we can say we're going to spend less this fiscal year than we spent last fiscal year that is exactly the kind of restraint we need to begin to better grow our economy and start to get this debt under control. stuart: one more thing that larry kudlow had to say. he said look, the democrats are not going to get all the tax increases that they want. he says they are going to die in the senate. that's another very optimistic idea. you think that's going to happen >> i don't think they are going to get any tax increases. the speaker and republicans are clear. we're not raising the americans taxes for goodness sake they have been hit with the worst tax ever under joe biden, the inflation tax so the democrats want to tax more and make it worse?

and look, i think speaker mccarthy has handled this well and i would just say this. who do you think will get a better deal for the american people? joe biden who has screwed up everything he's touched, border, inflation, energy policy, crime, you name it, foreign policy, or speaker mccarthy who went 15 rounds and emerged as the speaker of the house. i actually think speaker mccarthy and these negotiations and reproductive cans are going to get something that makes sense for the american people. stuart: last one. you haven't ruled out opening an investigation into hillary clinton. what would that investigation be about, congressman? >> well, we're going to look, if you look at the durham report there are a number of people in there that wouldn't sit for an interview with the special counsel durham. i mean, peter strzok didn't. comey, so we're going back now and looking at when we depose these guys a few years ago looking at what they said there, comparing that to the durham report. we will have mr. durham in front of our committee here in the

next few weeks. we're looking forward to that hearing. looking forward to doing the research and going back and looking at those depositions we took a few years ago and then go from there but all i'm saying is everything is on the table which is how it should be when you're doing proper oversight. our constitutional duty to get the facts out for the american people. stuart: hillary clinton said look, age is a factor. president biden's age is a factor. i've got the impression that senior democrats are trying to ease him out before the election , because they know he can't win, and they are worried about what happens with the vice president. are you with me? >> well, i would say maybe this is one of the first statements secretary clinton made that i actually agree with. i do think it's a concern, and it's a concern because when you couple the way, you know, unfortunately the way joe biden sort of conducts himself as president of the greatest country ever, and then you look at the policy, everything they have done, secured border to no border, record crime, $2 gas to $5 gas, stable prices to record

sam was 8 when we got him. i convinced my husband to go to the adoption day and we saw sam. he did not bark for like a month after we got him. and then one day he went “woof.” i was like, “you can talk!” advice to dog owners? feed them good food, take them on walks, let them stop and sniff, play with them, love on them as much as possible... because even if sam lives to 20, it won't be long enough.

stuart: a great white shark has spotted off the coast of cape cod this weekend. it is the first confirmed shark sighting of the season. molly lion is on the cape for us all right, this seemed very early to see great whites that far north. reporter: well, you know, when you're hungry you're hungry, and the start of the season getting a little bit of a grizzly start, in these waters off of cape cod. a whale watching crew and the passengers got more than they expected when they went out on this whale watching boat over the weekend witnessing a great white shark devouring a seal saturday morning. these predators have been coming back to these waters in greater numbers in recent years enjoying the seal population. this bloody breakfast in particular witnessed on the boat operated by dolphin fleet whale

watching including first mate michelle silva, who took the video and says she's been working in the water for 15 years and never seen anything like this before. >> out of nowhere, we see a splash on our left-hand side and none of us really saw what it was, so we waited to see what it was, and then we see this shark come up, try to grab the seal, it missed, and then we see a blood pool further off in the distance and we're like oh, my god this is happening. like this is amazing. reporter: down in new jersey this weekend a 15-year-old from pennsylvania was bitten by a shark while surfing for just the second time. maggie drisdowski is at school today but nursing those wounds after suffering what experts believe was a shark bite in the waters off of stone harbor on sunday. no word on the type of shark or the size of that shark but she sustained lacerations to a foot and calf ending up with stitches >> i just felt a lot of

ash? you've got the numbers on this one. it's a big deal, right? ashley: yeah, it is a big deal, with some big numbers. the u.s. received more than 1.5 million requests from individuals hoping to sponsor migrants and that's just from four countries. cuba, haiti, nicaragus, and venezuela. according to cbs news that flood of applications has overwhelmed case workers at the u.s. citizenship and immigration services which can approve no more than 30,000 arrivals under the program each month, but the agency receiving an average of nearly 12,000 applications everyday. american citizens, residents and others in the u.s. with illegal immigration status are eligible to sponsor migrants as long as they agree to financially support them. this was supposed to perhaps takeaway the appeal of crossing the border to the south, if they had a legal way of getting into the country but apparently, this program is overwhelmed, so yeah, hold that thought.

stu? stuart: hold that thought, got it. ash, thanks. now this , a georgia democrat ripping her own party for prioritizing illegal migrants, and ignoring the issues that affect black americans. especially kids. misha maynol is a democrat from the state of georgia and joins me now. misha, do black people in georgia feel squeezed by the migrants? >> it's not just the black people in georgia. it's black people across the nation. everyone is associated with an ethnic group, and whenever a black person tries to promote something to help a black ethnic group, there is this outcry of " no you can't" so at this point, we have illegal immigrants coming in, billions of dollars are going to support them, nothing is going to the black community. stuart: would you describe it as a critical situation in the schools with the arrival of a large number of migrants?

>> so atlanta just received $7 million to help with the potential surge of immigrant s into our community. what does that mean? those children are going to have to go to school somewhere, and we can't even provide adequate services for the kids that we currently have so from a humanitarian standpoint, i don't think it's good for either the latino or hispanic children or the black children. stuart: now, you're speaking out against your own party. any backlash from that? >> so this really all began, i am a student, a school choice parent choice advocate. stuart: good. >> the democratic caucus at the state capitol, they know that i'm an advocate of this. they decided to make a caucus position. the democrats in georgia will not support school choice or parent choice. that leaves out an entire

demographic of black people so i don't think the democrats are trying to say we don't support black children and if they aren't saying that, they really need to change course. stuart: this is fascinating stuff but i'm going to change the subject slightly, if you don't mind. the naacp have issued this travel advisory for florida they don't want people of color to go to florida. you're a person of color from georgia. would you go to florida? >> it's about to be summertime, and one thing that i think americans across the united states, there's something called politics and then there are kitchen table issues, so if a black parent wants to take their child to disney world, you can best believe me they are going to disney world this summer. stuart: would you? you're in politics. would you do it? >> i would. i would go to disney world, absolutely, if that's where my daughter wanted to go. stuart: but would you go to any place, a beach vacation or
