tough trading dow is down about 280 points nasdaq down 89, s&p down 35. overall, relatively decent month for the stock market. a little bit of worries right now about the debt ceiling dealing. it's being voted on tonight. the dow, the big loser this month, it is down over 1,000 points. big tech by far the winners in may apple is up today. meta has more than doubled in price this year. it is up as well, so is microsoft hanging on by two pennies, alphabet and amazon are lower. show me the 10-year treasury. it is at 3.66% down 2.8 basis points. a new york city law school under fire for allowing this inflammatory graduation speech. roll it. >> israel continues to in discriminately reign bullets and bombs on worshipers murdering the old and young and the law is a manifestation of white supremacy that continues to

speech because some other third party deems it to be hate speech but we can all subjectively judge someone's speech and we should judge someone's speech. free speech does not exempt you from judgment, and in my judgment, it's not simply hate speech. it's revolutionary insurrectioni st destructive speech designed to tear down the very foundation of western civilization. this student, by the way, and only so much of your outrage should be reserved for this student. this student is a fruit. she's the fruit of a poisonous tree that infiltrated not just law school but education in the west and law school is certainly at the tip of the speer of this , where everything that we have created and just, lauren, as a quick side note. the foundations of our society out of greek and, you know, at that time, roman thought, advancing through the enlightenment, established and enshrined with the constitution of the united states with the product of thousands of years of thought, of reason, of judgment, and to say that all of that boils down

inviting a group of lgbtq plus nuns to their pride night. blake trenon says " disenfranchises a large community and promotes hate of christians and people of faith." and a washington nationals pitcher is calling for a boycott against the dodgers. trevor williams says to invite and honor a group that makes a blatant and deeply offensive mockery of my religion undermine s the values of respect and inclusivity that should be upheld by any organization. will, you would think we would have learned by now. can we just keep politics out of sports? will: yeah, i don't know. i think the horse is out of the barn. i hadn't seen, lauren, by the way that statement from the dodgers pitcher. that's good so he joins clayton kershaw, trevor williams , anthony bass who ended up apologizing for his religious

stance. it's so weird because whatever the sisters of i don't know, the ones that make mockery of catholics and nuns and of perpetual indulgence, is that what it is? they are intended to offend, and so their point is to offend. we're going to offend and shock you, and then if you are offended and you say you disagree, well now you're a bigot and anthony bass of the toronto blue jays has been shouted down as a bigot. you're not a bigot if you have the rational response of being offended by that which is intended to offend you. the question is then who are these organizations whether it be bud light or the los angeles dodgers choose to offends and they have chosen it is better to offend thousands of christians that may see this offense as offensive. then, the ever-expanding acronym and group of tolerance now for whatever it is, you know, there's no slippery slope. we are fast sliding down. what is it next that will be the civil rights moment of tomorrow?

lauren: yeah. will cain, thank you very much for the time and the perspective will: thank you. lauren: we appreciate it. let's check the markets before we go to our market guest here. unfortunately the story is the same all day. a consistent selling the dow is down 250 the other markets are lower. scott ladner is our market guest of the hour joining me on set. scott good to see you. thanks for keeping me company here. you say we're in a deflationary environment. yes, inflation is coming down, maybe it peaked, but we're not near 2%. >> no. i think deflation is probably not the right word. we're certainly in disinflation. we have seen the interest rates and the inflation. the path is pretty obvious. really what we're debating is how quickly can we get inflation down and that's really going to depend on how quickly the job market can soften. lauren: well, well, we've got the jolt report and there are 10.1 million jobs that are open. that is not disinflationary. >> no, and look companies still need to hire and there is a little bit of question about how

good those data are with respect to the jolts data. at least our company sometimes we put up a job posting, and we'll just leave it open because you don't know how long it takes to get somebody and so i think that's probably happening across a lot of industries because it was really hard to get workers. we do feel like that's softening some, and it may take a little while to come through in the official data but we do think that the wage pressures that we've been under, we've at least seen the peak coming down it's not where it needs to be but we're getting there. lauren: let me ask you this. 60 plus percent chance that the fed hikes for the 11th consecutive time june 14, when they meet, a day after we get the latest cpi, the latest inflation data. they hike for time number 11. you're saying they don't, so do you think it's a pause and then a potential hike later on or do you think it's a pause and a cut >> so probably not a pause and cut unless things deteriorate and we don't think that. there's an underpinning of strength in this economy not being very well appreciated right now. lauren: which is what?

>> which is a lot of the a.i. movement, a lot of the productivity gains we're getting which is rapidly improving "the situation." the strength of the consumer. the strength of businesses. the under leverage of everybody in the system. nobody really needs to borrow money. i know rates are high but people don't need to borrow money. so it doesn't matter as much that rates are really high right now as it has in the past so that underpinning of just hey we've got a really strong consumer still spending money, companies are earning money hand over fist with this a.i. movement helping productivity and going to help the job market and wages. that combination can be pretty powerful and people still hate this market so they are still short. lauren: scott i love the optimism. much appreciated. ashley come back in. you've got breaking headlines for us, let's start with capri holdings. ashley: yeah, not a lot of optimism there, lauren. down big today as you can see down more than 11%. this is the parent company of michael kors just reported revenue that was down 10.5% in the fourth quarter.

they are also cutting their revenue forecast on weakened demand for high end goods like purses and shoes. all right meantime amazon has unveiled a new employment contract for working parents, grandparents and guardians in the uk. that essentially gives them the choice to only work during school time which means a guaranteed six weeks off over the summer as well as two weeks off during the school's winter and spring breaks. by the way the additional time off will be unpaid as the new contracts basically offer workers 42 weeks of week per year. a lot of them like it but labor unions claim the contract offer is just a trade-off for what they call poverty pay. union members have been on strike in recent weeks in the uk demanding higher wages. lauren? oh, and by the way one more for you. this is interesting. the median age of the world's billionaires is 67. there you go. good news for me and you, lauren , although my times

lauren: today the pentagon will announce a plan to send more aid to ukraine following the $3 billion accounting error. jennifer griffin is at the pentagon with the report. jennifer, what is in this new aid package? reporter: well, that's right, lauren. the u.s. will announce another weapon shipment to ukraine later today, valued up to $300 million it includes patriot battery menigeses which have been so effective in shooting down incoming russian missiles and protecting the capitol kyiv. it will include air-to-air missiles and avenger air defense system, ammunition and 105- millimeter tank ammunition that'll be used for the m-1 abe ram tanks and then 155- millimeter ammunition for drones, zuni aircraft rocket s used in ukrainian 25

fighter jets and then in other words, a lot of this will be ammunition for the upcoming counter-offensive. tank ammunition is for the 31 ab rams tanks the u.s. is sending to ukraine, 200 ukrainian soldiers the equivalent of one armored battalion have begun training on these american tank tanks in germany. the defact o ambassador to the united states told reporters that a christian science monitor breakfast tuesday helping ukraine fight russia is sending a powerful message to china and deterring beijing from invading taiwan. "we must ensure that anyone contemplating the possibility of an invasion understands that and that is why ukraine's success in defending against aggression is so important also for taiwan ." secretary of state anthony blinken announced new u.s. sanctions targeting russia 's use of iranian drones to attack civilian targets in ukraine just days after president zelenskyy thanked the

u.s. for its support. >> we will announce controls on the technology with iranian drones used to target ukraine civilians and the infrastructure. >> [inaudible] reporter: meanwhile, as you mentioned, lauren, a little good news for the u.s. taxpayer. the pentagon through an accounting error found a bit of loose change that will increase the amount of military aid it can send to ukraine. the defense department overestimated the cost of the military aid it has sent so far to ukraine by nearly $3 billion. lauren? lauren: wow. jennifer griffin, thank you. well, ukraine and its allies are planning a peace summit and that would exclude russia. national security institute

founder jamil jaffer joins me now. good to see you. let me ask you this. how do we get a peace deal if russia is not part of the summit >> well, it's a great question, lauren. this is the million dollar question. this is a plan set out by french president macron working with president zelenskyy. the idea is to bring china, brazil, india, some of the countries aligned roughly with russia and try to break them off from the russian coalition and get them to agree to a deal and take that to the russians. the key question is can these countries get on board with the key parts of the kyiv peace plan which involves the restoration of ukrainian territorial integrity which is a minimum condition for a ukraine peace deal. lauren: in your view can they? >> it's going to be really hard because the russians don't want to give that up and we'll see if this effort by the french president to divide and conquer is successful. i think it's going to be full of challenges. lauren: next one for you, jamil. experts are warning the ability

to use artificial intelligence to literally stalk people, to find out everything about them, oftentimes just looking at one photo. you can get all this information that's where we're at, right? i mean, a.i., it's here. its been unleashed on humanity. how do we protect ourselves? >> well look, i think for the next benefits are going to greatly out weigh the down sides but that doesn't mean we can't account for the fact that there are very real security concerns so what are the technologies and capabilities, one that a.i. itself can empower but also build on top of it alongside of a.i. to ensure that it's safe and secure that we're protecting the privacy and security of americans and in particular these same capabilities what we're concerned about, bad actor s using like criminals, we also should be worried about nation states. look at the amount of data that china collects and is stolen they can use that data to identify americans and what we're doing and predict our behavior. people wonder by tiktok is a problem. this is exactly why. all that data chain is a gathering through the tiktok app can be combined with other data

and used against you. that's why it's so important for us to invest in and identify good a.i. security technologies on a going forward basis. lauren: i always lie when asking for information i put in the wrong answers, [laughter] and change it up, so you can't just paint this clear picture of who i am. i don't know if that's helpful but that's what i do. >> it's good. it's a little bit of defense right there and depth. lauren: jamil jaffer, thank you very much. cathie wood just predicted the next a.i. winner. okay, ashley. who is it? ashley: we learn more and more about you lauren simonetti. well, woods said software providers are the next sector to ride the a.i. frenzy. the ceo and founder of arcc investment expects nvidia to continue to do well overtime but actually cut its holding in the chipmaker in january which means the investment actually missed the big rally in the nvidia

stock, but, wood responded critics pointing to concerns over the computer chip industry 's boom and bust cycle. instead wood is betting on software stocks she expects to eventually grow into the size of nvidia. she's citing ui path, and teledoc heal th as key examples even though all three, by the way, have fallen from historic highs, and wood continues to claim that tesla is the biggest artificial intelligence player out there, expecting its stock price to yes , hit $2,000 in 2027, four years from now. we'll see. lauren? lauren: and if that's tesla it's at 196 now, okay, ashley, thank you. ashley: a long way to go. lauren: yeah. the lead singer of the band para more has a nasty message for ron desantis supporters. chelsea mitchell used to be the fastest girl in her state but she continually lost track races to biological boys and now

call it a part of a systemic attack, they say against a group in alabama and elsewhere, but alabama governor ivy signed legislation that indeed prohibits transgender women from participating on female sports teams in college. the state previously banned transgender athletes from participating in female youth sports from grades k-12. under the law, students are prohibited from playing under a different gender identity, even after undergoing hormone treatment. during the signing of the law alabama governor said, "it's about fairness, plain and simpl" lauren? lauren: thank you, ashley. well, my next guest says it's not fair. she is a track and field athlete who used to be the fastest girl in high school in connecticut, but then she started losing to biological boys who identified as girls and competed against her. she's chelsea mitchell. she is suing the state of connecticut for forcing her to

compete against them. chelsea and her lawyer join me now. ladies thank you for coming on. chelsea, you know, you're in college now. i'm assuming you still run. why are you suing now about what happened back then in high school? >> well, actually, sued my senior year of high school and that was because all four years of my high school experience i raced against these two biological males who ended up taking four state championships and countless other opportunities for myself to advance and it's not fair to force females to participate against biological males and so that's why i ended up suing. lauren: so what do you want from this? do you want the record restored to reflect who actually won? >> right. i mean, it's not fair that these biological males took these titles from myself and other girls and so the record should reflect that, but also, we want the policy reversed so that no other female in connecticut has to go through the same thing that i went through.

lauren: let me bring you in here how do you win this case? because it looks like connecticut is giving it another look, more than 20 states across the usa have banned trans athletes from competing. how do you win? >> that's exactly right. it's so important that our laws and policies not just in connecticut but across the united states as well reflect biological reality, and that's the whole reason title 9 was passed nearly 50 years ago was to ensure that girls like the young women who are now protected in the state of alabama can compete on a fair level playing field and not be forced to race against males who have inherent physical advantages over them so it's really encouraging to see more than 21 states now protecting women's sports across our country and we want to see that momentum continue. lauren: chelsea how has the reaction from your lawsuit changed from when you first filed it in high high school and now a few years later? do people say that's mean in the beginning and now oh,

oklahoma now we side with you. has any reactions changed over the past couple years? >> yeah, initially when we filed this lawsuit there was a lot of silence, silent support, wispered support but now there's a ton of girls speaking out with us and with all the legislation i think its just made it so much easier for women to stand up for themselves and i'm glad our case was able to do that for them. lauren: should trans athletes get their own category? the pushback you typically get is well there's just not enough numbers to actually do that but should they? >> i think there's a lot of different ways that we could find a good solution here, but what we can't do is compromise the female category. we have women's sports as a separate category for a reason. males have anywhere from a 10-50 % performance advantage, and that's why it's so unfair to force girls like chelsea and other young women across the country to compete against male athletes. lauren: you know, chelsea, i have young children and for instance my son is five, on his t-ball team boys and girls, nobody cares. they are all playing basically at the same level, but as you

move on in your sport, and as your parents dedicate their money and their time taking you five days a week, all year around, and you work so hard to be the best that you can to get that scholarship, and its ripped away from you, because you're competing against someone that's biologically bigger and stronger than you, how does that make you feel? >> yeah, i mean, in competitive sports we need these sex- separated categories so that women still have the opportunity to win. i mean, i worked years to get to that state championship to be on the line to win that race and to have that kind of taken from you is really just frustrating and disheartening especially because you know the person next to you has a huge physical advantage. lauren: i was reading, chelsea, that you were the fastest in the 55 meter dash in the state of connecticut. how much faster did the boys run >> about three-tenths of a second, which you know may not

seem like a lot in seconds but in track and field that's a huge margin, about probably 10 meters ahead of us. lauren: wow, thank you for giving us the time and sharing your story. >> thanks for having us. lauren: chick-fil-a could become the next victim of a conservative boycott. chick-fil-a now, i thought they were conservative, ash? ashley: well they have been certainly part of the conservatives but news of chick-fil-a having vice president of diversity, equity and in clues or dei, does have some conservative groups perhaps calling for a boycott claiming the company has, yup, gone woke. according to chick-fil-a's dei page, its initiative is focusing on promoting equal access to opportunities, valuing differences, and creating a culture of belonging. some reacted on social media saying that they hope chick-fil-a would stand by their christian values. it has made the restaurant as we say part of conservative culture

for several years. chick-fil-a says only this. that it hopes it's better together dei actions signal a positive change for the company. but some, among conservatives, do not agree. lauren? lauren: in a really sorted way, it might, a boycott could make the line shorter, because it's so popular, and so good. ashley, thank you. ashley: true. lauren: now, a poll shows nearly half of black voters think that president biden has made no difference in the lives of black americans, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're not going to vote for him in 2024. it's the battle of the republican front runners in iowa today. you have florida governor desantis and president trump both making stops in the hawk eye state. rich edson is there. he has the battleground report right after this. ♪

lauren: the lead singer of para more cursed out ron desantis supporters at a concert okay, ashley, what's her problem with the governor? ashley: well, it's safe to say she certainly does not, you couldn't call her a fan. let's put it that way, of ron desantis. during a concert in atlantic city over the weekend she had a message for anyone who planned to vote for ron desantis. she says, "if you vote for him, you're bleeping dead to me." williams had recently been criticized online for not being vocal enough politically. the pop rock singer has been openly liberal for some time and earlier this year, the front woman condemned multiple bills in tennessee pushed by state republican lawmakers to ban drag shows in spaces where children are and to ban sex change medical procedures for youth.

so, she's telling her fans exactly what she wants them to do. not vote, for ron desantis. lauren: well, we'll see if they listen. ashley, thank you. it is the battle of the republicans today in iowa. you have ron desantis and donald trump both making stops in iowa. rich edson is there joining me now. so rich, desantis got there yesterday. so far, what has his message been? is he quick to attack trump? is it more subtle? what do you have? >> well, it started out last night as more subtle, lauren but then it got more specific in an event with reporters when he was specifically asked about it. he's chris-crossing the state today with four events. this is one of them here in pell a, iowa. he's expected to be here in just a couple hours. he kicked off this campaign last evening at an event in west des moines at a church there. desantis pitch to voters there

was the republican party needs a president to win two consecutive terms, trump would only get one if he won re-election or a second term. republicans need to end the culture of losing. that was another dig at trump. >> leadership is not about entertainment. it's not about building a brand. it's not about virtue signaling. it it is about results and in florida, we didn't lead with merely words. we followed up our words with deeds. >> after that kickoff speech, desantis got much more direct towards the former president. he responded trump's criticism about desantis' covid policies noting the former president's family moved to florida while he was governor. we asked desantis whether he could win the evangelical vote for trump which has been very supportive of the former president. >> i think we will. part of it is because i have a record of just standing for what's right.
