ashley: dolly parton, fantastic, nine to five. blue skies in new york city with the empire state building standing ma jess i cannily. good morning, it is 10:00 eastern time. i'm ashley webster in for stu today. let's get straight to your moment any as we do every time. dow is off. slightly higher by a 10th of a percent at most. take a look at the 10-year treasury, that was moving higher which tends to be more negative for the tech stocks. it is up 4.1 basis points at 7.3%. look at the price of oil a lot of talk about oil of course with the saudi production cut. it is up a dollar at 72.82. in fact if anything coming back a bit. a quick look at bitcoin down close to $500 earlier. down there, nearly $500 at 26,748. by the way we got the latest readings on the services sector.

lauren, the number please. lauren: it came in at 53.3 in the month of may. that is a big disappointment. it has fallen five months in a row. you're still in expansion terriy above 50 which is the break even. we were expecting a greater number than 52. i the flipside i call this deflationary. what are prices paid for the services sector, for the people who work in it, that number came down from 59.6, to 56.2 that was quite a big decline, ashley. the market actually turned on this report. the dow had been lower and now it's up. the message, hey, jay powell, prices are coming down and economy is softening. ashley: maybe a more fed-friendly report after having such hot economic indicators maybe finally the higher interest rates are having an effect. the dow essentially flat. it was slightly down.

s&p and nasdaq slightly higher. lauren, thank you very much. now this, democrat senator joe manchin says president biden has been pushed too far to the left. watch this. >> it's notable you're not ready to sign off that joe biden has been moving to the middle. you don't buy it? >> well this here i think joe biden, that's his inherent, who he is, he has been pushed to the far left and that far left is not basically where the country is. and the far right is not where the country is. it is coming back to the middle, then we can continue to bring people to the middle and do our job. ashley: yeah, interesting, isn't it. guy benson joins me now. guy, what's your reaction? i would not argue that joe biden has been dragged to the left because that's where the progressive, you know, loud voices are, would you agree? >> yeah, he has been governing for the most part in fear of the hard left in his party. he will occasionally buck them. sometimes when he is left with

no choice it seems. i'm intrigued by manchin saying what he said because you might say he is positioning himself ahead of 2024. he certainly is. the question is, in what sense? is he trying to get reelected in west virginia, polling shows, especially up against jim justice, the governor there he is down big. he might not want to go out on a loss in his career that he has had. there are rumors that he might eschew re-election campaign in west virginia instead seek the presidency in some moderate, down the middle third way kind of candidacy. if that is something he is thinking about, just listen to the words he just said. the far left isn't where the country is, the far right is not where the country is, let's bring people together. that would be a campaign slogan for joe manchin if he wants to it run as a third party candidate for president. ashley: it is vest interesting, isn't it? i want to get on to this issue, guy. former fbi fbi director james

comey facing pressure to come up with a charging decision for former president trump. many want a decision before he could possibly become the 2024 gop nominee. i mean,fy, if that were the case, what impact would it have? >> well, it is hard to say because there are a number of different charges out there or potential charges out there certainly investigations against the former president. we see charges here in new york city which a lot of us see as purely political there is a case in georgia. this is a civil case here in new york. there is separate civil case. there is a federal case comey is referring to there. the alvin bragg, the decision in new york city gal ran-sized support for trump. they're coming after him again. this is all politics. there are different rules for different people. there is big boost in republican polling for trump after that. whether we see the trump effect in the case of hypothetical

future charges from various jurisdictions. i don't know, that is entirely possible. comey is saying the pressure is on to get it done before 2024. they don't want to be seen as interfering with an election. a lot of americans would say they have sort of done that quite a bit recently. ashley: yeah, they have but with regard to donald trump as you say has all these legal issues happening over his head t doesn't seem to hurt his base it plays to the narrative that he being picked on but can some one like ron desantis use that to his advantage? >> if there is a underlying concern, if people are trepidatious about trump's ability to win a general, i think desantis feeding into those concerns and others might not overt way citing prosecutions against trump. there is a sense can trump win

with all the baggage f you say that very explicitly such a way it seems like you're rooting for the other side again trump that is where you run into trouble with a lot of soft trump voters and members of the republican base. ashley: very difficult tightrope to walk. it will be fascinating to follow. guy benson, thanks for joining us. >> good to see you. ashley: lauren on back in. markets are sputtering this morning. let's begin with walmart. lauren: up 1.2%. da davidson said they're a handful of retailers to top forecasts because they have been able to keep their prices stable. less promotions which is good for the bottom line. walmart is increasing pay for 7,000 of their workers in health care like their pharmacists. some will start making $140,000 a year before bonuses and other incentives. that is pretty good. mode derna is also higher.

they have teamed up with merck for cancer treatment. they're showing promising results using mrna technology from moderna with keytruda from merck with patients with high-risk melanoma. target, downgrading them to sector weight. they're down 1.7% now. they make the tie-in to student loans. americans will have to start paying student loans again this summer that will give them less money to spend at target. that won't bode well for back to school. by the way i just bought two of my childrens supplies for next year. we do it through the pta. it's little bit more money you also give money to the pta for doing i for you both of them went up significantly in price from the year before which went up from the year before. it is so expensive right now. it is really crazy. early indicator. ashley: as you know first-hand, no, i appreciate it.

it just brings it home, does it not? lauren apparently american airlines will reinvent traditional business travel. what are they doing? lauren: they will stop catering to the market because the market is not back at pre-pandemic less. so bottom line it i read this as treating the corporate traveler the same as you and me, the regular passenger when we're not flying somewhere for fox. right now, american and other airlines they spend a lot of money paying travel agents commissions to sell tickets for companies who send that i workers on the road. since fewer companies are adding worker travel why be so indulgent? you might see employ book their own travel, pick their own seats. this used to be a lucrative market for airlines. it has not gotten back to the 2019 levels. it likely never will. i will tell you this, billy nolan is reportedly leaving the as interim leader of the federal

alliance, merck, they're the dow winners. looking at s&p 500. tesla up nearly 3%. dexcom up 2%. dominion resources up nearly 2%. let's look at the nasdaq quickly if we can. look at this palo alto networks up 3 1/2%. netflix up nearly 2%. these are some of the winners. amgen up 1 and 3/4%. that is a look at the market. still ahead "the new york times" says the biden's officials leave the president alone as much as possible on the weekends and they adjust his schedule to avoid tiring a aging president. the question, is his age a issue for voters? joe concha will deal with that and more. china is chasing u.s. capital by cozying up to american ceos like jamie dimon and elon musk. where does the white house stand on stopping money flowing into china's growing bank account? edward lawrence will have the

relationships? >> reporter: right now it is laissez-faire attitude. the latest ceo going is the ceo of nvidia. he will be there tomorrow. chinese state media saying on tuesday he is going to meet with tech giant in china. officially nvidia is saying no comment on this. nvidia cannot sell the most advanced chips to the chinese based on export controls and their see. >> is critical of that decision which angered the chinese communist party. the visit will follow wooing, jamie dimon and elon musk and ceo of starbucks. >> this level of representation in china isn't that a bad message there will be no repercussions no matter what china does? >> the ceos should be allowed to speak for themselves and their travel. there has never been some sort of fiat by the white house or the u.s. government that the american business executives can't travel to china and can't

conduct business as they feel is appropriate. we view our relationship with china as a competition. >> reporter: the white house basically hands off when it comes to companies doing business there. also offering no timetable for when we might see the long-awaited executive order further limiting outbound investment in china. executive order is expected to specifically target u.s. investment being made in the semiconductor industry. so this is as we see china pushing the u.s. many fronts. on saturday as you know the taiwan strait, chinese warship came within 150 yards after crossing the path in front of a u.s. ship. then on may 26th, a chinese fighter jet as you know crossing a u.s. military jet in that same general area. ashley? ashley: all right. edward, thank you very much. by the way china's defense minister end defending the sailing a warship across the path of a u.s. destroyer in the

taiwan straight h strait. mike turner says u.s. must stand strong against china's aggression. >> we're seeing unbelievable aggression by china. look at balloon over the united states. chinese police stations. aggression against our planes and ships in international waters. they are trying to flex their muscles advance authoritarianism. we need to stand strong, the administration needs to stand strong against this type of coercion. ashley: kt mcfarland, the perfect person to have with us. kt, good morning. look, why is china conducting these kinds of things, these close misses, these any-byes, these very aggressive moves? is it because they feel like they have got the upper hand on washington right now? that joe biden is not the kind of leader who will immediately respond? i mean what's going on? >> yeah. what china's goal is to take

over taiwan and then to push the united states out of what we call the western pacific, out of the south china sea, the east chain sea and then control that whole area which is the world's most important maritime trade route. so what's happened now, the taiwan strait, it is about 100 miles of water between mainland china and taiwan. for hundreds of years that has been an open international waterway. any country can sail its ships, naval vessels, its commercial vessels between taiwan and china. now china has now said, no, no, we're changing our minds here, this is actually part of china. china gets to decide which ships, which naval ships, which commercial vessels, which airplanes go through this taiwan strait area and they're doing that but not in isolation. that is the important thing to remember. we keep thinking well there is the military over here, there is the economic here, there is the

trade here, there is the energy there, china views it all as one piece. so china fly as spy balloon over the united states, no pushback. china ass american vessels in the taiwan strait and american airplanes in the taiwan -- no pushback. china is trying to get american companies to invest in china. no pushback from the china administration. to top it all off as china is engaged in a military buildup we're cutting our defense budget. ashley: that says it all but i want to move on to this part of the world. ukraine's president zelenskyy says his troops are ready to launch their long-awaited counteroffensive, spring counteroffensive, we're almost into summer now, so kt, could this be a turning point to the war or are they trying to win back some hard fought territory around the city of bakhmut? >> it is a stalemate and it is going to remain a stalemate because as long as oil is above

about$0 a barrel china can pay for this war, i mean, russia can pay for this war because russia uses its oil revenues to pay for the war. that is one of the reasons the opec cutting back production, saudis cutting back production really plays into russia's hands. as long as russia has high oil prices they pay for the war, they keep fighting. on the other hand biden says to ukraine we'll give you whatever you need to continue to fight. it's stalemated conflict. maybe a little bit goes one way a little bit another way but it's stalemate unless the united states stops the war on american fossil fuels and starts producing american oil and natural gas at shoves the international prices down, russia can keep fighting for a really long time. ashley: that's my question. i got literally 20 seconds, kt, how does this get resolved? what's it going to take? >> the united states has a new president, stops the war on

so far they haven't quite figured it out. ashley: would a bowl of spaghetti take the president down? maybe. joe concha joins me. joe, the latest fox poll shows biden's approval among republican voters is just 6%. i want to flow where those 6% came from. the question is, what is jen psaki talking about? >> while i would love to go bowling with that 6% sometime. so what do you think is going so well? if americans are so comfortable, ashley, with joe biden as former, apparently unintentionally hilarious white house press secretary says they are could she explain he is currently 35% approval in the most recent cnn poll? also at 26% approval among independents. those people who decide elections in places like georgia, arizona, wisconsin, michigan, pennsylvania. a majority of democrats don't want him to seek re-election. 70% of the country overall says they don't want to see a second act from this president but i think the most alarming poll result in that same cnn polls

says that a biden victory in 2024 would be a quote disaster, unquote, for the country. besides that, though, jen psaki makes one heck of a argument on that other network. ashley: i still don't understand. anyway, let's move on. >> yeah. ashley: the "new york times" report biden's officials leave him alone as often as they can on the weekends. they tend to adjust his schedule to avoid tiring a aging president. joe, you have a new op-ed out. it is titled, biden stumbles on stage and in the polls. but it may not matter. why wouldn't it matter, joe? >> well "the new york times," ashley, did a focus group last week of 12 people who voted for joe biden in 2020 and within that focus group all 12 said they would vote for him again. but here is the crazy part about this they asked the focus group do you think joe biden is a strong leader, no one answered

yes. then they said, do you think he is up for being president in 2028. no one said yes. yet everybody will still volt for him. not so of people yearn for the biden brand or yearn for a 86-year-old president at this point not aging well at all by almost all accounts but they will vote against the other party whether that's trump, whether that's desantis, whoever the gop nominee is. that is the way things are working at this point. not so much voting for a candidate in joe biden's case but voting against his opponents as they did in 2020. ashley: it is just remarkable to me, joe. the job of the president of the united states is one of the hardest jobs ever. you're leader of the most powerful country in the world and not to be, you know, try not to bother him on weekends and maybe schedule events from noon until 4:00 p.m., maybe outside of his nap time, this is just not what we expect from a leader, is it? >> not at all. look if you're 80, want to be a golf starter right, that's fine.

joe bureau's professional league. guess what, she is here great to have you here with me, kerri. tell me about the league, not only on beaches but it is an indoor league? >> yeah. professional indoor volleyball where i started my roots 10 years old playing indoor volleyball. this is a long time coming. women's sports is having a moment. i don't think it's moment. i think we're here to stay. popularity of the wnba and women's soccer league. are goal with the pro volleyball federation to become the premier sports league in america. we have a lot of work ahead of us but we're very excited. ashley: very good. when does it begin and will the games be televised? >> yes. we're working on our media deals right now and the games will begin february of 2024. the season is a four month season running from february until may and the goal is to

have the best of the best american volleyball players playing here in america for the first time and forever. every year hundreds of american athletes to overseas to make a living and a lot of them, choose not to go or retire early because they get sick of being away from home and not living right here in america. so the real pro volleyball federation gives them a chance to stay home, chase their dreams, make a living wage, to become the best they can be. ashley: all right. i will change directions a little bit but it is an issue comes up all the time these days, very interested to get your take on transgender females play inning women's sports. where do you stand on that? >> you know i will bring this back to our league. we are still still finalizing league policy. i think soon you can go to our website to check it out but for now i just want to celebrate the fact we have a pro team coming to san diego. i understand personally being a professional athlete, this is a very important issue.

our statement will be coming out soon. ashley: very good. i appreciate that. now the question, perhaps the biggest question of all are we going to see you in the 2024 olympic games in paris? you're fighting an ankle injury, right? >> no. i'm healing every day i'm healing. ashley: good. >> i'm trying to figure out my personal olympic career path. i'm healing every day. i have big dreams. my career path is one thing on the court. off the court i'm so excited to be contributing to the growth of the game with the professional volleyball federation. i love thaw ask that question. i'm competitor at heart. i want to be in san diego with the best team. i have breaking news for you. we can hire, announce our head coach, park, who is three-times olympian, two times silver medalist. when you're a silver medalist, you're kind of pissed off for gold. i'm glad she is on our team. ashley: good news indeed.

i was interested in hearing i don't know if you agree, actually a really strange thing, when you rewatch it, the second time around, cbs getting their money's worth out of this, what i take away from that particular interview is this, harry talks in that segment with anderson cooper how eventually seven years ago he decided to have therapy. now this is interesting because the timeline is fascinating. at the same period we are led to believe that meghan markle his wife felt suicideal the palace did nothing, nobody came to help. if harry had an ses to therapists why not put her in touch with them? to me they're born liars. their story keeps evolving to whichever version they want to do. if you think about this battle with the king and the prince and princess of wales, they did everything in their power to welcome meghan and harry into the royal family. it was their choice, their
