larry: you know, the results of cultural and economic socialism are so bad that the whole country is moving towards a more conservative view which i think is very cool and elizabeth macdonald is very cool liz: that could be argued but you're talking about the gallup poll. more persons are becoming more conservative moving away from the far left so this social experiment larry is falling apart. larry: yes, indeed. liz: you're the best. thank you so much. happening now, we've got brand new details coming into the studio right at this moment
5:01 pm
on what exactly members of house oversight saw today in the documents that the fbi let them read alleging that then- vice president biden engaged in bribery. president biden weighs in for the first time. we are on the money trail digging into those shell companies. can us congressman darrel issa, former treasury secretary for public affairs, under former president trump monica crawl it, trend macro donna luskin, and newsweek. now this story, canadian media, canadian media, slamming and blaming just in justin trudeau indiana his government for policies making historic wildfires there even worse. canadian media again blames its own government. more hazardous smoke is engulf ing u.s. states and this new battle. house gop lawmakers threatened to defund the doj over its latest fight with former president trump, plus that new gallup poll, america is rejecting the far left.
5:02 pm
congressman darrel issa says the ftc is "making the worst regulatory move ever" and blocking a game changer to stop cancer. i'm elizabeth macdonald, the "evening edit" starts right now. a new twist, house oversight chair james comer stopped his plan to hold fbi director christopher wray in contempt of congress as the fbi agreed to let members of house oversight review the alleged biden bribery document. the fbi reportedly bringing two more documents for chairman comer and ranking member raskin to review but what did the fbi documents say? fox news senior congressional correspondent chad pergram has the latest on capitol hill. chad? reporter: liz, good evening. we estimate about a dozen members went to see the fbi 102d setting at the capitol, all from
5:03 pm
the republican side of the aisle gop members told reporters they believe the paper suggests evidence of a crime. one member argued it be challenging to show innocence >> i try to call the balls and strikes. i try to call it right down the middle but when the read the information in there, there's a reason there were dozens and dozens of shell companies. this is a credible witness. it's more than $5 million, and there's absolutely a reason for the shell companies. reporter: now, the oversight committees original plan today was to hold fbi director christopher wray in contempt of congress but wray offered to allow all members of the oversight committee the opportunity to review the 1023 document. the fbi also offered two other documents to leaders of the oversight panel, so no contempt vote. >> very big victory, showing that the republicans are holding this government accountable, a committee to go down there and
5:04 pm
look at these documents and continue following wherever the truth takes you. reporter: one source says the document does not indicate that mr. biden received payments another source says neither president biden nor his son were paid directly. the allegation is that both scored millions over time. democrats downplayed the inquiry and the document. >> it's our hope that this will put an end to the foolishness. the house republicans from the very beginning of this new congress have engaged in a phishing expedition that has one goal. destroy joe biden and his family it's not working. reporter: fox told investigators now want to see additional paperwork the gop says the document could prompt subpoenas for other records that could help corroborate what the witness alleges on the document. liz? liz: chad pergram, thank you so much. great reporting there. joining us now, house judiciary jeff van drew and former doj
5:05 pm
attorney. gentlemen, let's start with the sound from today. you're going to see the president dismiss the allegation, asking where's the money, but congresswoman marjorie taylor greene says that's the point. they buried the cash drops from overseas in dozens of shell companies. watch this. >> prior to the allegation and the evidence and the fbi sold out the country. do you have a response to republicans? >> where's the money? i'm joking. >> mr. president? >> that's a bunch of mallarky. >> back in 2016 barisma was looking to buy a u.s.-based oil & gas company and this came from being advised by hunter biden and his partners. they hired hunter on the board to make the problems go away. that's what they specifically said. hunter advised that they could raise more money if they bought a u.s. company, so the informant was trying to do the right thing
5:06 pm
and trying to advice burisma that they shouldn't go this route. the owner of burisma said that hunter was stupid and that his other business partner was smart he also said that he paid 5 million to one biden and he paid 5 million to another biden, and it was all a bribery to get shoken fired and end the investigation into burisma. the informant had asked the owner burisma if he was happy that trump won and he said no, but he did say that it would take 10 years for all of us to find out the payments made to the bidens, because of how many bank accounts there were. he said at the time, there were no direct payments made to the big guy. liz: okay, so congressman van drew a couple things. victor shokin, the former prosecutor general for ukraine was fired in 2016.
5:07 pm
the ukraine parliament removed him because he wasn't investigating corrupt politicians. that's the story out of ukraine. they're talking, the marjorie taylor greene and the other congresswoman are talking two $5 million bribes? again this is a credible paid fbi informant. the fbi used this person for at least 10 years. it's not from rudy giuliani. >> that's why they didn't want to bring this paperwork and they didn't want this to be exposed because they know there's something there. obviously, he wouldn't have risk ed being held in contempt if there was nothing there, but this is what we've got to do. we've got to drill down everyday , every week, every month and, you know, i would disagree with hakeem. we're not looking to fabricate things. we're looking to get the truth out. that's why they hated donald trump so much. we know there's more there and our agencies are corrupt at the top levels, whether it's our irs , whether it's our literally cia, fbi, the department of
5:08 pm
justice, the people who work in the field are okay but we've got to get down. liz: yeah, we've got fbi whistleblowers, hans, on the stick here and a lot of democrat gaslighting this is rudy giuliani information. this fbi informant came forward in 2017, three years from rudy giuliani and then, you know, bill barr is saying yeah, we sent this information over to the u.s. attorney in delaware. we want to get to the money flows. this is important. we're digging into the shell companies. the pattern this was the biden family game plan. cash in on then-vice president biden's job. earn millions in consulting fees first ukraine, obama put biden in charge of ukraine, hunter biden gets a lucrative million dollar a year job, as a board member of burisma and then the money trail. we're tracking $4.6 million went out of burisma to shell companies set up by hunter biden they are burying the cash drops in these shell companies and off
5:09 pm
balance sheet llc's, hans. >> well, look, what the fbi still hasn't answered is what have they done to investigate the credibility of all these claims and all of this information. if as joe biden said there's nothing to this , he should want the fbi to investigate this , to tell us whether it's not credible, to clear his name, but the fbi needs to tell us what have they done to investigate the credibility of these claims and if they haven't done it, what in the world is their excuse for not looking at this. this involves possible corruption of the white house, the highest office of the land. you know, the vice president and they need to investigate this. why haven't they done so? liz: so, we're hearing, congressman van drew, to what hans just said, that the fbi allegedly was burying this information as misinformation and disinformation inside fbi files
5:10 pm
so it wouldn't see the light of day. that's what senator chuck grassley is worried about is that what you're hearing, this is what happened? >> it's obviously what we're concerned about and we're just going to have to keep pushing and get a hold of it. this fbi at the top level is not only weaponized but it's also politicized. the same thing in my judiciary committee. we're trying to get information from the fbi in what's going on with hunter biden and all that he was involved in and they have information. they have paperwork, and they finally turned some of it over and basically the only thing that wasn't redacted said yours truly. i mean, we've got to really get these agencies under control i hope when republicans get in full control we go through all of these agencies and change them from the top and make them functional. liz: so the biden family setup plausible denyability to what the congressman is saying, hans. when we've been through the government reports, the senate homeland security, senate finance, the house report , they were moving money
5:11 pm
between shells. for example, burisma officials wired nearly 3.5 million to the hunter biden shell, rosemont senica and then this is 2014 and a month after hunter joined the burisma board, and then that shell would wire money to three of hunter biden's bank accounts, 700,000. so that's what the game plan was , hans. >> right. listen. if you showed a typical prosecutor, particularly a federal prosecutor what was in these reports, and obscured, who it was. it was a biden family. the first thing they would tell you is this looks like money laundering, the kind that the mob engages in and others too. that's what they would tell you about. the fact this has been going on for years this supposed investigation and they still haven't come to a conclusion one way or another, that gives all the credibility you need to folks like the irs whistleblower s saying that their investigation of possible tax evasion has been stymied by their superiors.
5:12 pm
liz: got it, congressman and hans thanks for joining us tonight. >> you are the coolest one around. liz: oh, thank you. >> you are. liz: that's debatable. appreciate that. i'll take that vote. okay thank you, congressman. okay, let's welcome back to the show batya. canadian media, this story. canadian media, canadian newspapers, they're in an uproar and outraged and attacking justin trudeau and canada's parliament and the media in canada is accusing them of wasting time, not preparing for now 430 wildfires burning in nearly all of canadian provinces , batya. they didn't have enough firefighters, equipment, not even a strong enough natural disaster agency like fema. >> yeah, it's so funny because justin trudeau likes to walk around lecturing regular middle class people about fighting climate change but at the end of the day didn't have enough people on staff to actually protect his people from just a
5:13 pm
natural disaster like wildfires, something that you know is coming, you know, we know they are coming they are cyclical. liz: so that's the thing. quebec can only fight, this is the canadian media talking about this , can only fight just 30 of the more than 160 forest fires burning across quebec. they don't have enough firefighters. that means they are burning out of control, batya. >> that's what happens when you don't respect the working class. you don't have enough people doing the actual jobs we actually need to keep us functioning as a society. instead these people get into their private jets and they fly around the world and they lecture everybody and meanwhile they ignore the actual people and their actual needs in their backyard. liz: they needed these low- intensity controlled burns. critics in canada say this is what's also went on in australia green ideology, the green movement, chronic government underfunding, meaning mismanagement of forest growth, dead wood, under growth, needed to be cleared out. they didn't do it with low intensity control to prescribed
5:14 pm
burns and now here, stateside, you've got people like climate czar john kerry. he's trying to equate fighting climate change with the soldiers who fought on d-day. batya, john kerry flies around the world in private jets in a monthly basis. he stays in luxury hotels and uses limos, but he's now a d-day fighter? >> you can't have a car but he gets to have a private jet. right? that's how it works. you can't have a regular used car and buy gas at the gas station because your threat to the environment but aoc can have a tesla which costs $50,000, right? progressive politics is a smoke screen for class privilege, liz. their motto should be for us, private jets. for you, the bus. liz: so they are doing all that, right, batya, but again, i've got to say it again, canadian newspapers broadcasters are saying canada, you now have to bring in firefighters from the u.s. , france, spain,
5:15 pm
portugal, mexico and that's going to be enough to fight half of the wildfires. you know, so to your point, batya, when you have leaders who are not on the stick who are not filled with common sense, you get wacky ideas coming from them into the media. let's listen to this msnbc host watch this. >> these kinds of weather phenomenon are happening all around the globe, and it's only becoming more and more common all because of climate change, and even as we barrel towards a climate catastrophe, many world leaders are still weary of any substantial climate action because of their unrelenting dependence on oil. among the world's top oil suppliers is canada, as well as the u.s.. liz: you know, this is just absurd. oil & gas is not responsible for the wildfires, period. canadian media, newspapers and broadcasters are saying they did not do the controlled burns that have been done for centuries to stop bigger wildfires, and if they did that they would have less climate change emissions,
5:16 pm
batya. >> right but this is what they do. this is the way progressive politics works. it is a war on the middle class. it's a war on middle class values and a war on the middle class pocketbook, and often those two things go together. what joy read is saying here is it's like when they say there's racism in the schools and therefore we have to get rid of testing to distract from their own failures to educate children it's the same thing here. routine failure to clear the underbrush, so what do they do? they act like they are the heros and they are the fighters of this big thing climate change when it's nothing to do with it. liz: got it. come back soon, great to have you on. this is a big fight coming up, the hot story. congressman darrel issa, he's saying the ftc is "making the worst regulatory move ever" in blocking a game changer that would stop cancer. plus, this new fight house gop lawmakers threatened to defund the doj over its latest fight with former president trump.

that moderate middle that probably really represents most of america and i think that a lot of what americans want is a version of can't we just get along? now that doesn't mean that people on the radical left or the radical right don't have good ideas that shouldn't be brought into the conversation. you know, that's how creativity in government happens. i'm all for it, that's democracy terrific. the problem is we have divided divided government. we have house of one party, senate of another party, and the house itself is so close to a tie that it's essentially a divided house itself, where all it takes is four deflect or s from the majority and you don't have a vote. now, in the prior congress, in biden's first two years as president it was the other way around. the democrats had that problem. if they lost four votes, they couldn't get anything done, so, they got very little done and we're going to get very little done and anything we do get done is going to get stopped in the senate.
5:25 pm
liz: yeah, so here is the thing. so the moderate middle, they want negotiation. we're thinking that's from the read of the polls. they want congress to negotiate. they want the white house to negotiate, but donald, what you're saying, here is the issue the far left is getting president biden to do executive orders circumventing congress. student loan bailout, electrifying the u.s. economy, collapsing the border, so that's when americans speak out in the polls they see all this going on. they don't like it. they don't want a president circumventing and abusing his constitutional powers and congress' power of the purse. >> yup. well, fair enough, and so far completely left out of our discussion today is that other all-important branch of government the supreme court where a number of the things that you mentioned are going to either live or die and we're waiting just any day. the headlines going to come out sometime over the next weeks or

it and the ftc ununprecedented way voted, the commission itself voted that there was no problem. the whole bit. lina khan, the chairwoman over ruled that and decided to try to stop it. well, it'll go to court but the important thing here, liz, is that we're talking about a one of a kind discovery of ability to genuinely use blood for extremely early detection. it's very promising, and they want to invest billions of dollars in bringing it to market and this is something where you'd be able to detect cancer before it threatens your life. a real game changer and they are trying to block it and they can't even explain why, because there's no anti-competitive possibility. this is a one of a kind technology. there are no competitors and yet , she has decided she can see into the future and as a result, she can see where in the futurity could be anti- competitive and by the way
5:43 pm
lumina is a $33 billion company which sounds big until you realize pfizer is 10 times that size so we're not even talking about a huge company by comparison to the big guys, and yet the federal trade commission is picking winners and losers like that everyday. liz: okay, so let's just walk this through. let's see what's going on. we've got ftc chief lina khan blocking the merger between this california company and they are a pioneer of early detection of cancer through blood work and it makes the machines used by this company grail to scan blood for cancer so who is using grail now, just doctors and not all health plans because if this merger went through it seem s like all of america could access this. >> exactly. all of america could access it, and one of the important nuances here is this was a start up division of lumina.
5:44 pm
they said let's spin it off because it's not part of our core business. then the spin-off, grail, came to them and said we don't have enough money to monetize, to grow this. we need investments, big equity investments, and they jointly, this is a friendly reacquisition , they said let's merge back together and make it a major division of lumina and that's what they are doing but the killer is the federal trade commission is not the primary anti-trust determinant and even if they were they have a process to determine it. that process said it wasn't a problem. the chairwoman decided it was and reversed the decision. liz: what you're saying is ftc chief is basically saying, lina khan, because grail has no competitors you're saying well neither did edison when he did the light bulb, that by this logic, khan would have blocked one of the kind polio vaccine. how many cancers are found through mammograms, colonoscopy and similar tests? i think you said it's like one

liz: let's welcome back news week opinion editor batya ungar-sargon. batya, the big story of the day is that members of house oversight read that fbi document from an fbi confidential informant. the fbi used this person for at least 10 years. they are now talking about two separate $5 million payments, one to joe biden, one to hunter biden. there's no proof that they got the money, but there's also evidence that there is major use of off-balance sheet shell companies to bury the cash drops from overseas. what do you think of the story? >> so, it doesn't look good. it looks bad. i want to know more for sure but i have to tell you, liz, you know, i've been working on this book about the american working class. i've been traveling country for the last year interviewing republican and democrat working class americans, and i got to tell you. when the word ukraine comes up, it's not in this context.
5:51 pm
it's the context of why are we sending billions of dollars there when we have so many problems here and liz i hear this from republican working class voters all the time, hard working americans who can't afford the american dream any more, and so i would just urge people who are spending a lot of energy on this to keep in mind who your voter base is, because they have real problems right now and they agree with you about this. they agree with you about the woke issue, but their kitchen table issues are really hurting. liz: we're just reporting on the issues. we understand you're in touch with the middle class working class voter, and you know, when they see stuff like this going on, i mean, you're right. the voter polls show they don't like the direction of the country, seven out of 10 say we're heading in the wrong direction. they don't like what this white house has been doing. that's like six out of 10. we're talking gallup, quinnipiac , emerson polls, you know, but when you see the behavior, so the white house is trying to shut this down, but batya, we've got

to stay on the story and the story is this. the pattern is this. that the biden family game plan was cash in on vice president biden's job, earn millions in consulting fees, setup dozens of shell companies to bury the cash drops from overseas. we're tracking 4.6 million that went to hunter biden shell companies for law firm for consulting services out of ukraine's burisma and there's talk of a $5 million bribery involving this then-price says biden. the working class and middle class american don't like seeing stories like this at all. >> absolutely, and take it even further. the injustice of the difference between how the media treats joe biden and the way they treated president trump, that bothers people a lot, right? can you even imagine if a republican had done this , you wouldn't have the media essentially covering for them the way the liberal media is covering for joe biden right now , so i totally agree with you on that. liz: what bothers them the most?
5:53 pm
>> the fact that the american dream is so far out of reach for the hardest working americans. liz: all right so, you've got then the biden families being accused by house oversight gop lawmakers, senators chuck grassley, senator ron johnson. you know, they are saying that basically, joe biden was not going to be the presidential nominee in 2016. last year and a half of his vice president say is like okay we'll just go in and try to make money for the family. that's the psychology that the house gop lawmakers are claiming is at play here. final word. >> it's very hard to disagree with that. it really looks like that happened and the more evidence that comes out, it seems to only confirm that so i think they are right. liz: batya great to see you we'll have you back on again soon. thanks, liz. liz: the latest on the senate now scheduling classified briefings on artificial intelligence. we're going to talk about that coming up in the evening edit.
