york city, this is "maria bartiromo wall street". maria: happy weekend to all. welcome to the program that analyzes the week that was in helps position you for the week ahead. i am maria bartiromo. former president donald trump has been handed another indictment and congress confirms joe biden took a 5 million-dollar bribe as vice president. presidential candidate vivek ramaswamy is here to respond. i'm also getting his take on potential new threats to our national security from communist china. all of this as 11 gop candidates are now in the race for the white house with two months until the first gop debate. meanwhile investors are waiting to major inflation reports in the week ahead in a major decision from the federal reserve on interest rates all happening next week, kansas city federal reserve president thomas hoenig on what to expect and what happens next. 9/11 families are accusing the pga over betraying them over the

merger of liv golf. i'm speaking with the chairman of 9/11 families united. but first the justice department indicting former president trump on the very same day that congress confirmed an fbi whistleblower report and the account that joe biden took a $5 million bribe while vice president, join me presidential candidate vivek ramaswamy. great to have you this weekend, thank you for being here. >> thank you maria, and to be back. maria: major development donald trump and i did the second time, this time from the d.o.j. on the very same day that we learned congress has confirmed the whistleblowers account that joe biden accepted $5 million in exchange for policy changes for america, your response? >> i think this is bigger than the disparity between trump and biden. we have two standards of justice in this country.
9:03 am
one if your blm antifa violent writer and to if your peaceful protests just are one for julian who sits in a prison abroad a foreign prison while chelsea manning the transgender individual that leaked the hotter sense committed by president obama. this is part of the repeated pattern and now we have one standard of justice that applies to joe biden in a different standard that applies to donald trump. this is a symptom of a deeper abandonment of the rule of law and our culture and it's a sad thing the rule of law is part of what it means to be an american. i'm a millennial of the first millennial to ever run of the gop of the president speaking is a member of my generation i thought i would ever see the day when the president of the united states oversaw justice department that used police force to arrest his lead political arrival in the middle of an election, yet here we are.
9:04 am
that is not the america you and i know that the distortion of it and part of the reason i'm running for president, once and for all we need to revive the essence of this country rather than the hollowed out husk of a nation that we have become. maria: how will you get things back to the rule of law. you have lots of competition, yet mike pence, chris christie, doug burgum officially launching their campaign this week, take a look. >> we must resolve that joe biden will never be reelected. >> we need to return our party to the time-honored conservative printable. >> we need a leader focused on three things, economy, energy and national security. >> let me be very clear i'm going out there to take out donald trump. >> i will be the nominee and the guy that beats joe biden. maria: what you make of your new competition and how will you differentiate yourself when it comes to the two-tiered justice
9:05 am
system? >> i am the outsider in this race. that is a hard fact and you will not be able to take on the corrupt administrative police state if your product of the very system. a lot of professional politicians in the race. i respect many for their service to the country in many roles that will more talk about who leads the white house, the executive branch of government. we need a chief executive in the white house. that will become the tradition in the gop. we will be the party that repeatedly puts out the outsider in the white house trump was outsider in 2016. on the outsider in this race. i think i bring a lesson and understanding of the constitution of the ceo if somebody works for you and you cannot fire them that means they do not work for you. it means that you work for them because you're responsible for what they do without having any accountability to change it.
9:06 am
that's the problem with the ministry to state as it exists today. it's unconstitutional and i will not make a false promise as other politicians will to reform it. i will shut it down on strong constitutional authority, that includes fbi which is part of a corrupt administrative police state that should not exist, keep the u.s. marshals but we don't need the fbi that will be the way that i govern and you will not get that from another professional politician in the field. i'm self-made and i'm not rely on the donor class that self-funded in the start of my campaign of $10 million of families money hard earned not inherited to what cap 40000 small dollar donors in the first number of weeks alone, along with us. that's what's different from any politicians beholding to other interest that restrict what they say and frankly will restrict what they do in office. i think our base understands what we need an actual outsider that will get the job done.
9:07 am
maria: all of the two-tier system that were talking about has put america in a vulnerable position china is accusing the united states of spreading rumors with multiple reports have we've been reporting detailing the alleged plans to make pay billions of dollars to cuba for a spy base in cuba about 100 miles away from florida. the white house and the defense department are calling the reports inaccurate but the pentagon says the continue to monitor the relationship between beijing previous secretary blinken heading to china this month for the first time since a spy balloon flew across the united states, no word on when or if president biden will push back and have a meeting with xi jinping to ask why they sent spy balloon here and why they built police stations in america. how would your handling of china be any different if you were president? >> my handling of china will be different because i'll make sure
9:08 am
were not economically dependent on our enemy for our modern way of life. that's a real problem. if that had been a russian spy balloon flight over half of the united states i have no doubt in my mind we would've shot it down instantly and ratcheted up sanctions on russia. the reason we don't do it for china, we are dependent on them for our modern way of life in the shoes on her feet to the phones in our pockets and that is what is different about the cold war with china than the cold war of the last century versus the ussr. even under reagan we did not depend on them for the way we live our lives. we will declare independence from china, that includes reentering trade relations with japan, south korea, india, much of the pacific rim bringing in the capacity to the united states but using other allied countries to do it that puts me across the table from xi jinping to say unless you radically reform and meet our conditions and participate as a equal participant in the global
9:09 am
economy then were cutting the cord and that will hurt china more than it hurts us that how we went without going to work. we've been distracted by other foreign policy priorities like the ukraine war, like russia, the real threat is the ccp and we need to wake up to that reality. foreign policy is about prioritization and i will leave this country accordingly. maria: it was amazing she should peak gave a speech back in 2020 and he said we need to ensure the world is dependent on the chinese supply chain so we can turn off whenever we need to. that is the whole point make everybody depend on china so they can decide when to turn the lights off. >> that is absolutely the point. the exercising leverage much of this is part of the 500 year plan. our fault were thinking on the scale to your election cycles and the taking on the timescales

of history. what i'm going to bring to the foreign policy is more churchill a little less chamberlain thinking on the timescale of history. i also think no candidate in either party is talking about the top threat is russia china alliance. we need to wake up to that. that is something i'm very focused on disrupting the alliance. a reverse maneuver of what nixon did in 1972. that's what i wanted with putin and xi jinping. maria: a great point. great to see you thank you for weighing in on that. we will be watching. >> thank you. maria: vivek ramaswamy, a big week for your money to major inflation reports and highly anticipated federal reserve rate ♪ ♪ the biggest ideas inspire new ones. 30 years ago, state street created an etf

9:15 am
there is every indication given the comments by members of the f1 see that they will pause. if inflation numbers, apply all better off than they may be forced to try again to slow the economy. my best guess inflation numbers will come in as expected around 4% for the month like four times or so and they will pause at that point and look and see how things are going to go before the july meeting that's what they are talking about the moment. maria: thomas assess the macro story for us. we had ten rate hikes already in most people say you don't feel the full impact until a year to 18 months after. we've seen a slowdown in the economy and i spoke with the chairman of the ey the said businesses are sitting on cash in a freeze mode unable to make serious decisions because
9:16 am
they're not sure where things are going, how do you see things. i think things are slowing they are absolutely right you have rate increases from point to 5% up to five and a quarter% to slow the economy the problem is. and they're working out the excess savings and they still have that so there going to be ahead the fed knows that. the labor market remains strong and those of the factors that are also driving the issues around the further rate increases and i think if the economy remains even a 1.3 and an appointment stays very strong, come july there will be another big discussion on whether they should raise rates. if they are committed to bringing inflation down to 4% to 2% their target, the odds are the good have to raise rates more and so the economy further and people will have to suffer
9:17 am
through that given the priority on inflation rate. that's how i would see the future debate going forward in the f1 see. maria: wages of 4.3% but they're not up as much as inflation so inflation is still eating into people's income. what are your expectations on where this is going to be talked about the potential for a recession. you think will see a recession later this year? >> i think the odds are high that we will see every session if in fact this bed days committed to the 2% goal and if they have another mini financial crisis or something like that or the debt issues become putting upward pressure on rate they may interject themselves and that would put more liquidity into the system. i think how committed to the 2% goal in if they are good enough to raise rates if inflation
9:18 am
stays around 4% and that will slow the economy further and it raises the risk of the recession that much more by the end of the year i would suggest. maybe beyond that was certainly that is a risk. >> even the federal reserve said we will see a recession because of the added pressure from the banking system. i know we will navigate all of this on "mornings with maria", we will see you then, thank you for joining us. thomas hoenig joining us this weekend. up next betrayed by the pga anger and outrage over the surprise golf deal with the government of saudi arabia the chair of 9/11 families unite ♪ limu emu & doug ♪ what do we always say, son? liberty mutual customizes your car insurance... so you only pay for what you need. that's my boy. now you get out there, and you make us proud, huh?
