that perhaps the biden family is compromised, all the money coming in from china. this will probably fuel some of those theories. i want to see strong evidence of that but especially the excuse making apologies we saw from the president on the spy balloon which seems to be a clear-cut violation of what the chinese did. at least it makes you wonder. stuart: it certainly does. i have to cut this short. back to the hunter biden story. let me say this. we have hunter biden, he's going to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and a minor gun charge. former federal prosecutor joins us on the phone. thanks for jumping in on this. donald trump says hunter biden has got a sweetheart deal out of this. would you agree with that?

>> as a former federal defender, i said this would happen on may 8th of this year and for me as an individual who served on both sides of the aisle in the government service sector i've never seen a deal like this in my life. i'm surprised there's a version that avoid a fallone conviction for hunter biden when i argued as a public defender for decades to apply to injured and clients, this makes it so that hunter biden says publicly he is a drug addict. it's the only way he could have received a diversionary program unless someone in doj did it. stuart: so is the whole probe into hunter biden, the laptop, bribery, is it over? >> it seems to be that way. that's another example of what

china is slowing down, cut interest rates. all our banks have lowered their outlook. does this help or hurt our economy and market? >> it will hurt our economy across the board. i would like to throw another thing into the basket and say europe isn't doing well either. we are the last bastian of someone saying we are doing okay but that is why these things are weighing on the stock market. i put in a note earlier this morning, 7 stocks holding up the nasdaq or the s&p, everyone keeps showing those returns as this economy is on its way back up, i say you can't have such a narrow recovery and have it be healthy because it is easily knocked over and that is my worry. i put in our notes that i'm getting paid 4% or 5% to sit the market out and wait because i would rather have one or two things happen, i would rather miss out on a rally by getting paid 4% or 5% rather than have

a huge breaking story. does this guilty plea end the whole thing? >> i don't think so. the bidens want to end the whole thing, the doj is setting up, doesn't really follow precedent here. if you look at these charges, some -- the gun charge should be a felony. other people have faced that with a minimum of 5 years in prison. to distribute, distribution or selling of drugs at the time. there is a statute that deals with that that is not happening here, that charge is being diverted, thrown away and there's two misdemeanor charges on taxes. there's a lot of criticism on capitol hill on this. what doesn't go away as investigation into the alleged bribery scheme and republican

say there's more evidence. the doj and the us attorney of delaware after four years, this is the end of their investigation, they will get a lot of heat on that. stuart: i'm sure they will. let's get to your exclusive interview with donald trump. what's the most important take away from your conversation with him? what stuck out to you? >> that he went as detailed as he went on the indictment and handling of those classified documents at mar-a-lago. i expected him to say i can't talk about any of this, try a couple times and move on but i asked a few questions based on what is in the indictment and he really engaged. i don't know if his lawyers liked that engagement or not. we have another part of the interview that deals with the us economy, taxes and regulations, the us debt and the covid.

it is fascinating. he answers every question. at the end i asked do you feel this was a fair interview and he said yes. a couple questions, it was fair. stuart: very articulate and calm all the way through but back to the soundbite where you asked about his stance on china and taiwan. role that tape. >> of china invaded taiwan would you go to war? >> that hurts me in negotiations with regard to president xi. he knows what i do and by the way for four years they didn't invade taiwan and they never talked about it. stuart: we should point out antony blinken told president xi that we do not support taiwan independence. that's causing uproar around the world because it seems like we caved.

>> it does. it sounds like that. this policy is interesting to hear. he talked differently at the beginning of 2016 before he became leader of the free world. he understands the nuance and negotiations that had yet to come if he gets back in the oval office, talked about that with russia as well, things he said would not have happened had he been down the dust making phone calls. stuart: he looked back a lot to the 2020 at even 2016 election. a lot of people didn't like that. >> and we had a back and forth on the 2,020 election but i was trying to get him to focus and answer the question how does he reach out to independent female suburban voters who left him in 2020 and are a hard know now and he says he is confident he can win them back. stuart: he replied to that

pushing a bill to prevent landlords from running criminal background checks on prospective renters. what else is in this bill? >> reporter: they want to essentially erase any record of crime older than seven years. the ideas progressives want to help convicts avoid their past from coming back to hunt them when looking for housing. they say formerly incarcerated individuals should have a right to privacy, making sure past crimes do not pop up when landlords are deciding to rent to someone keeping their rap sheet under wraps. >> housing is a human right, we wrongfully punish them after they already completed their census. our bill would remove unjust barriers to housing, stable housing is essential. >> reporter: it would prevent

wall street. there' s this. a recent study from stanford shows a students and charter schools are way ahead of public school kids. lydia is with us. public schools making changes to fix of this. what are they doing? >> reporter: some public schools across the country are lengthening their school day. looking at schools, in atlanta georgia and new mexico, some of them adding as much as 30 minutes to the school day. the interesting study you mentioned from stanford is showing charter school students are pulling ahead by as much as 16 days as if they have 60 days of reading, 16 days in math as compared to a student at a traditional public school. we are joined by ian role, founder of vertex in the bronx, a charter school here. tell us what charter schools are doing differently from public schools that is producing results like this?

>> as you said, most charter schools have longer school years and longer school days. particular focus on reading and math, comprehension and generally higher expectations because typically charter schools are located in communities where the schools that have been available have not been serving kids well so there's a much higher focus on academic excellence. >> reporter: some are lengthening the school days. do you think that's going to be enough to close the gap? >> it is one ingredient. lengthening school days is one ingredient but you've got to have strong effective instruction, great expectations, strong leadership and principles. more instructional time is one piece of it. if it is a mediocre school having more time is not the answer. all these ingredients make a great charter school great.
