liz: look who's here georgia state lawmaker mesha mainor. it's good to have you on. you left the democrat party to join the republican party, why? >> it really is a matter of what is best for the community and there are some ideals in my district in particular that are important to them one being education and the other being public safety. there's also a problem with the prosecutorial system within the community and those three bills in particular are totally against what the democratic party is about. as switch to the party that most works with ideals in my community. liz: how hard was the choice? >> quite hard, this was not an overnight decision. i've been at the capital for three years now and from the

moment that i walked in it is been a challenge and i am considered an outsider. i'm not a part of any political regime. i'm a person of the people, i came to the capital to represent them and i quickly found out that the ideals of the democrats were not to necessarily represent the people. liz: dozens of politicians and lawmakers have pushed parties for decades. you were attacked the moment that you spoke out for law enforcement, educational freedom, school choice. that is something that lieutenant virginia governor is big about school choice. the democrat city can be to be understood that minority communities suffer from crime, do they see that? >> my community understands what is going on. the elected officials do not understand what is going on.

i happen to be listening to the community which is why i was elected twice without a runoff in multiple people in my race. i'm listening to my constituents. liz: we see the polls in the polls show that more and more americans feel abandoned by the democrat party. i have to admit, my family is progressive democrats through the 20th century. my great-grandfather worked on the triangle factory fire and ran the fire department. but now we have a lot of democrats who i know of people my family saying we feel abandoned by the democrat party. they are switching. we see the polls showing where democrats are becoming independent and then we have the new siena college 41% of new york state residents, they've never been as concerned as they are now, they're worried about their personal safety, they say nine out of ten crime is a very serious crime in new york state or new york city.
