it's monday morning and that's the market. now this. coming out of the pandemic, lower paid workers were hit with inflation that wiped out their income gains. they lost ground. they're not happy. now we face a summer of labor discontent. it will be disruptive and it's not going to help president biden either. the biggest immediate threat from the teamsters at ups, strikes threaten for next week. union is angry and inflation eating into the wages while they say company profiter haves soared. about one quarter of package delivery taken by ups. that goes out, chaos. 100,000 hollywood writers and actors already on strike and unhappy about ai and huge salaries pulled down by media moguls. at the end of this week, flight attendants at american airlines hold ago strike and united had to offer pilots a 40% pay raise

spread over 4 years to prevent a strike. ford and auto workers have begun contract talks and union president said 150,000 members are prepared to strike. economically it could move the country towards a new bout of wage inflation, politically it hurts biden. he keeps saying he's the most pro union president ever. the workers have take that as support but voters don't appreciate having their summer disrupted and if workers win big gains, others will make big demands. it is the summer of labor discontent. that's the way it is. third hour of varney starts right now. steve forbes joins us this monday morning. what do you think, steve, with the strike ifs they occur.

hurt biden politically? >> of course they do. that's why a little over a year ago they worked really hard to prevent a railroad strike and they're happy united didn't make a bad situation even worse. so fine to say you're pro union but you have to deliver and that means as you say higher prices. economically does it mean new wage inflation? >> wages go up and have to recover in the marketplace. you can understand why workers want it. they've been falling behind thanks to biden inflation. thanks to biden spending, thanks to never ending array of regulations and now they're after lightbulbs, portable heaters, air conditioners. everything you want. they want to make our lives miserable. biden makes our lives miserable and he'll suffer politically. stuart: listen to this, white house adviser jared bernstein insist the economy is improving because of bidenomics. watch this.

66% have beaten thus far and have beaten by roughly a 4% margin. there's clear evidence recession is not off the table but they're recede. if that's the case and equities look more appealing and where they're more appealing is outside of where you put money to work in that fang complex f. you take those seven megacaps off the table, which have driven 75% of the performance, the multiple of the rest of the market is around 16 times. not cheap but noter and dna tieback either. the sensitive areas of the market that i'd be keen on now.. stuart: i put money into uber. i put quite a lot of my money into uber last week. was i wrong? it was wasn't fomo but they declined in inflation and that's the point i want to buy.

means committee and said all along we're going to follow the facts and that's in fact what we're doing, and the facts are leading directly to the president on numerous instances and it's quite alarming what we saw coming out with this testimony in the oversight hearing. anyone should be concerned, and you just look at what the irs whistle blowers stated from the tax years of 2014-2019 where they did the investigation, there was more than $17 million that was paid to hunter biden and his associates from foreign entities, $8.3 million directly to him. in the tax year in 2014, he had more than $400,000 from burisma where he never paid any taxes on it. guess what, they delayed the investigation from such an aspect that the statute of limitations has now ran on felony prosecution from that in 2014. stuart: the president has consistently said he never

talked business with biden -- with hunter, his son. the new york post story comes close to catching the president in a lie because these, you know, dial it in on speakerphone conversations, that belays the lie. >> stuart, if you look back to the president's first comments back before the election, he said he knew zero about his son's business dealings, and then after we released the whistle blower testimony that had the what's app message that said that hunter biden was talking to the chinese business partner saying i'm waiting for the phone call seated next to my father. then the white house came out with a statement saying that the president did not have a, you know, business dealings with his son. it's starting to move. one thing about t these two irs whistle blowers that came before congress, their testimony has not changed. however, the testimony or the

comments from the prosecuting attorney in delaware and the biden family is what's been changing. stuart: got it. another subject. you are the powerful chair of the house weighs and means committee. one of your jobs is controlling spending. how is that going? >> you know, they're starting the aprop ration -- aprop rations process right now and -- appropriations package and the debt limit requiring the appropriators to spend less money this year than last year and that's the first time it's happened in ten years. there's a grind between the republican-controlled house and the democrat-controlled senate. stuart: outright warfare. >> looks like house republicans are against even senate republicans when it comes to spending. a lot of folks like to spend money on the other side of the building. stuart: you're going to have a very tough time really cutting spending. it's an extremely difficult thing to do in america, isn't it? >> once you squeeze the tooth paste out of the container, it's a bit more difficult to put it back in, but we have to do it. $32 trillion in the national

debt. it's a snagsal security issue. national security issue. stuart: okay, congressman, this may sound a little picky but you've launched an investigation into ford, ford motor companies for hiring chinese, not american, workers at a michigan battery plant. >> stuart, i'm very disturbed and since february when ford came out with a partnership with cattle, a chinese company that's very close to the ccp over there, we've sent letters, we've sent responses. i said early on as chairman of the ways and means committee i will not only have oversight over the irs and other federal agencies, but i will have oversight over those woke corporations that have shed their american identity to become beholden to china. unfortunately it looks like in this situation, the chinese will profit off of u.s. tax dollars if ford continues to move forward. stuart: will they employ chinese folks to work in the battery plant?

numbers that drives it home. remember the last strike, 1997 for ups? i cover that had one. it was a couple of weeks long. back then we shipped about not just ups but all of us shipped about 16 million packages a day. this year, we're shipping 75 million package as day. it is a much bigger deal to the economy and i tell you, these guys feel like they have ups over a barrel. they worked through the pandemic, they say they're underpaid, they don't have air conditioning in their trucks. people know their ups guy. tends to be sympathetic and they've been practicing striking, pickets out there making strike captains and all the rest. we talked to the union this morning and, you know, they said, hey, we're solid on this, listen. >> we provide a service and as you see, this has boomed to astronaut cal level. but again, during this contract struggle, ups knows that and
