to inflation. the president faces continuing questions about his ability to do the job. every slurred word, every time he loses his train of thought or physically stumbles, the question comes up again. how can he keep going for another six years? the republican national committee checked biden's vacation days and found he outpaces virtually every other mott earn president. as of july, he spent 352 days on vacation, 39% of his presidency. when the white house under siege, the basement strategy becomes a long southern vacation strategy. i doubt he's going to get much peace and quiet. third hour of varney starts now. stuart: the gentleman on the right hand side of the screen is

jason chaffetz. would the basement strategy get him out of a jam? >> no, because he's been on a basement strategy since he started campaigning. he's the least vigorous, struggles cognitively and has for a long time. these problems, stuart, you know, everybody knows who's watching, it's getting worse, not better. time does not solve this. more jill biden, more cow bell, more joe talking about bidenomics is not going to change the dynamic, and i think he's going to continue with this strategy because he has no choice. it's the only thing he's done and it's getting worse, not better. stuart: senate minority leader mitch mcconnell froze mid sentence as he addressed the media yesterday. he stayed silent for about a half minute. he was then led away by his colleagues. nbc reports mcconnell tripped and fell earlier this month getting off a plane. senator ted budd confirms mcconnell fell a separate time

before meeting with the president of finland in february. i think we need a generational change in leadership. what say you? >> yes, i agree. i have the greatest respect for the minority lead but, you know, there just comes a time where you have to exit the stage. i wish him nothing but the best, but people like a senator feinstein and mitch mcconnell, they just have to step down. it is wrong for them, their staff, their spouse to continue to prop this person up. i know it's great to be the leader. he has nothing left to prove. he's been the longest serving leader and he's accomplished amazing things with the courts and everything. there's no other box he's going to check by continuing to serve for the next year and a half. put somebody in there who can actually live up to the vigor of the job. that's a tough call but the right one for the country. doesn't matter which side of the aisle you're on, at some point you've got to step down. in this case, sadly i think he does. stuart: do you think that senior

we're talking about is everyone watching this show sharing in the wealth creation of these companies. at the top of the list is apple, almost $3 trillion in 40 years. behind it you've got microsoft, alphabet not even 20 years old already $1 trillion. amazon almost a a trillion dollars. nvidia isn't even on the list yet. i mean, we're talking about wealth creation for generations to come. the guessing game on when we hit the top on this is a major mistake. anyone looking for a near term top, especially when it cops to things like ai. i mean, everyone's going to -- every single business in the world will use ai at some point. event i even a one person shop, especially a one-person shop and every single student from k through graduate school will use ai and an en intricate part of everyone's life at some point and grow and mature and get bettbetter and better and then t we do and the product it is helps create, we're just getting started.

stuart: it's one of the few streaming services i have is peacock because of the premier league. nvidia, they're up. show me. yes, they're up. lauren: the chip makers are up today. look at lamb research and latest trigger speaking of artificial intelligence and up 9% and really strong earnings and ai boom. but look at nvidia, they're the biggest player here. they are estimated to account for 75% of the artificial intelligence semiconductor market that has propelled meta and all the other tech companies you were talking about. nvidia reports and we'll get more detail at the end of august but the stock is up 200 plus percent this year. stuart: same store sales of mcdonalds up 10%. lauren: in the u.s., yeah. lauren: the stock is up and sales root is 600 billion and now they're teasing a spinoff mcdonalds, cosmics. it'slike an alien that creates

you. the white house going to great lengths for avoiding any kind of spicey comments on developments involving the first son and because it's going to be prolonged a bit longer, it looks like this could complicate the president's agenda and reelection efforts and "the wall street journal" did a great job summing it up this morning and after wednesday's developments, there's a heightened legal peril for president biden's son and could give the political opponents fresh ammunition in the scrutiny of the first family. once the plea agreement fell apart. hunter biden entered a plea of not guilty and it's still possible that could be reversed and a deal could be reached in the weeks and months ahead and the federal judge overseeing this is demanding more and and immunity deals out there and going to great lengths for hunter and sobriety. reaps on the hyal are celebrating the judge's decision especially in the wake of on your screen from last week. that was the testimony of those two irs whistle blowers who

support an impeachment of the possible involvement of president biden in his son's business dealings? >> no. >> yo would we want to impeach him since there's no wrong doing? >> why don't democrats seem to care about the evidence coming out suggests he was involved. >> there was no real evidence. >> wouldn't an inquiry help them get the evidence you say you don't have. >> it's that republicans don't have evidence. they want to do an impeachment without evidence, that's the problem. stuart: susan: where do you stand on lawning an impeachment inquiry? >> stu, look, you have to follow the facts and obviously congress has a role and oversight role and it's important that they perform that role. if there are irregularities and things to look into, they should look into it. i don't know where it all heads but i will tell you this, i think that the democrats used to

weaponnize impeachment with the majority a couple different tines and turns about as fair play and i hate to see impeachment getting weaponnized and used in this fashion. i would rather that we change the direction of the country by winning elections and that's whale be focused on i think you have to follow the facts and see where they government at this point, my view is this is very early onto make any judgments about whether or not they ought to move forward with the proceeding. stuart: senator, we're approaching one year of bidenomics and the inflation reduction act. in your opinion, is it working? >> it's not. i mean, the $10,000 a year and costing families living with

basic living expensive and the asset value decreased by average of 6% or $34,000 per family in this country. the economic data doesn't lie and taste why i think the president is out there trying to put the best face on this, it's not working with the american people because they get it. inflation is growing at a much faster rate than their wages are and they're falling further and further behind. that's simple math. stuart: we got a report that the economy expanded at annual rate in second quarter 2.4%. it's expanding a bit more rapidly. not suggesting that bidenomics is responsible for that, but it's going to weigh on the minds of voters. >> look, want good paying jobs and the economy expanding and it's going to be hard notwithstanding if inflation is increasing like it is and now the fed just raised interest rates for the 11th time yesterday to the highest rate in 22 years so people are seeing it on the inflation side. they're seeing it when they buy homes and cars and all those

sorts of things and i think that's the reality most americans are dealing with. we all wish well for the economy and want the american people to do well, but it's hard to see a scenario where more spending, expansion of the regulatory state, higher inflation, higher interest rates leads anybody to a better place. stuart: parts of your state south dakota are under a heat advisory too. would you describe this as a climate change? >> it's hot in south dakota in the summer. it's just a reality that we live with. i think we all ought to be do hag we can to reduce the carbon footprint in the country and south dakota leads the way, 82% of the energy generated in the state of south dakota is renewable. it's hydro, wind, of course we're very -- a big state when it comes to bio-fuel and south dakota is leading the way and

stuart: so i recollects messing around with my friends. on the market, dow industrials up a mere 10 pointings now. but do have the nasdaq still up well over 1%, that's 157 points and bearing them in mind the gain for the nasdaq, show me big tech and most up with the exception of microsoft and apple at 196, amazon 132, meta, look at it go. it's up $21. the only loser is microsoft. don't you know t that's the one stock that i own and it's down $1.22. i'll recover. a new report claims artificial intelligence will take more jobs from women than men. is ai therefore sexist? lauren: i don't like to use labels. no, i'm going to pour cold water on this study from mckenzie saying ai could automate about a third of hour's worked by the year 2030. it could take more jobs from women because replaces tasks in fields that women are present in like human resources, food

medical examiner in hollywood naked and terrorizing the residents there and george gascon refuses to prosecute indecent exposure and we'll prosecute misdemeanorses here in los angeles, we'll prosecute threat, criminal threats, disturbing the peace, truckenness and arresting. we'll e clean up the metro and prosecute individuals committing crcrimes and assaulting individuals committing crimes on the metro and dealing fentanyl and killing the teen teenagers e refusing to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. it's called doing your job and following the law and making sure that our community is safe. the way to do that is make sure you prosecute crime. stuart: one last one if i may, another problem that's plaguing california cities. fentanyl. what would be the first thing you do about fentanyl on the streets of los angeles?
