actual violence against women or men when we have violence in the streets or kids on college campuses worried about people using language that might hurt their feelings. it is completely upside down. >> to make the labor force a lot less competitive for our kids, there is a silverlining. sean: is a national security risk, you want to breed a group of citizens that are hard-working and tough i can get through anything and that's not what were producing today. it's very dangerous. >> were producing narcissism. sean: thank you for joining us. carolyn downey and matt palumbo. we thank you for the conversation. >> from the fox studios in new york city. this is "maria bartiromo wall street".
7:01 pm
>> happy weekend to all, welcome to the program that analyzes the week that wasn't helps position you for the week ahead. i am maria bartiromo. the evidence abiding family corruption is piling up. newly revealed bank records show millions of dollars went to hunter biden and his associates appointed to the house oversight committee. this money coming from foreign oligarchs in russia, kazakhstan and ukraine while joe biden was vice president. i asked house oversight james comer if he is trying to seek a response from president biden on all of this. here's what he said. >> this is always going to end with the bidens coming in front of the committee. we are going to subpoena the family. if i had subpoenaed joe and hunter biden before i became chair of the committee it would've been tied up in court and the judge would have thrown it out. we put together a case that i think would stand up in any court of law in america and we hope to hear from the bidens to. i wish the media would ask the
7:02 pm
president what exactly did your family do to receive the $21 million that the house oversight committee has proven. he continues to say that is a lie. we have their bank records. bank records don't lie. maria: it is not just the media, democrats were quick to slam the report from the oversight committee. the ranking member of the house oversight jamie raskin said this. committee republicans have once again released information on financial transactions that do not involve the president. republicans have repeatedly twisted and mischaracterized the evidence in a transparent yet increasingly embarrassing attempt to justify their baseless calls with impeachment inquiry. joy to be house ways and means committee chairman congressman jason smith who is also investigating. thank you very much for being here this weekend. >> it is great to be with you, maria. maria: what do you say to jamie raskin who says this is embarrassing for the republicans that joe biden has nothing to do
7:03 pm
with this. >> i would say he needs to look at the facts because the truth hurts. the fact that they are trying to cover up for hunter biden in the biden family business influence peddling scheme is absolutely unacceptable. we have the two irs whistleblowers that came before my committee and the bank records coming from jamie commerce committee. that both highlight $17 million of money that has been paid to the biden family. it is all because of the brand according to devon archer. in the brand is joe biden. the money that were looking at is the money from vice president or former vice president. imagine the money that the biden family brand is making while he is president of united states. we have a lot of questions that need to be answered. we asked members of the justice department, the irs, the secret service but guess what. the biden administration continues to stonewall less. we need to get to the bottom of
7:04 pm
this. maria: this is extraordinary and even more extraordinary is the democrats response. you would think this is an issue that both sides of the aisle could agree on. you mentioned the $17 million that we heard from the whistleblowers. james comer is talking about $20 million from other countries in addition to china. because extent, ukraine, russia. we don't even know how much money overall this family has taken. do you expect that subpoena to go back to the biden family early in the new session in september or october. when are we going to get an answer from the biden family about all of this? >> in fact, there is 13 people that myself, jim jordan, jamie comer have requested, in june to come before our committees. to answer questions in the justice department the irs and the secret service. we need those individuals to answer questions first.
7:05 pm
watch where the facts lead us. the facts continue to lead us to president biden in the biden family business which is really disturbing and it shows that our president under most circumstances and most thought would definitely people believe that he is compromise because of his relationship with his son and his son's relationship with foreign governments like china, russia, ukraine. it's quite disturbing. maria: another big priority when the house returns is preventing the government from running out of money. at the end of september and avoiding a government shutdown. yet the president asking to spend more money right now. the white house is asking congress for $40 billion in supplemental funding for the start of the coming fiscal year. they wanted additional 24 billion in aid to ukraine. they want 12 billion additional and disaster relief and they want $4 billion for the border crisis in combating fentanyl. we don't up to $4 billion is
7:06 pm
going to be used to house the migraines or if it's going to be useful in stopping all the people coming in to the border, into texas. what are your thoughts on all the spending that the administration wants to do. >> this a administration wants to continue to spend, spend, spend. you would think that they would learn from their mistakes of the first two years. they spent more than $10 trillion of new money which has led to the spike in prices of 16.9% since joe biden has taken the oath of office. that cost every american roughly $10000 out of their household income meaning that they pay more to put food on the table, close on their backs and gasoline in their cars and this is all a direct result of wasteful spending and what is this a administration ask for continuous spending just as we can look inflation started to take up for the first time since june of last year. we clearly are not out of this
7:07 pm
inflation crisis and we definitely do not need to continue to add more spending and more spending by this a administration. maria: do you expect the government to run out of money and have a shutdown? >> i don't expect the government to shut down at all. i don't think the white house wants that and i don't think the senate wants that. i tell you the house republicans in the house of representatives does not want to continue a blank check spending approach at this white house has. maria: real quick before you go, the priority when you come back a couple of weeks in september will be government shutdown and ensuring that that doesn't happen and never to potential impeachment inquiry. i know you were debating among members whether to go to the inquiry route, is that happening? >> we said all along we're going to follow the facts in speaker mccarthy is the one who has highlighted this. i'm telling you where the facts
7:08 pm
are leading i don't see where we don't go into an impeachment inquiry. it is unconscionable of what were uncovering both in the ways and means committee and the judiciary committee in the oversight committee something is not right. it smells very bad and the justice department needs to be investigated. it is biden's justice department. that who controls it and he is protecting his son and targeting his main political opponent which is president trump. maria: mr. chairman, always a pleasure. thank you, sir. >> great to be with you. maria: congressman jason smith. president biden admitted this week the truth about the inflation reduction act as you just heard from the congressman, the annual rates for consumer and producer prices climbed for the first time in a year. americans are now struggling with a record amount of credit card debt.ke of that after this. get decision tech from fidelity. inflation can take tire for consumers and producers in the month of july for the first time in a year. this happened to speak president biden also admitting the speak what we have been telling you all along for the last year that the inflation reduction are does not live up to the name saying i wish i had not called it.it has less to reducing inflation that it does provide for alternatives to generate economic growth. but this is how he's been selling this bill americans since day one. watch. >> this is the strongest bill you can pass to lower inflation, cut the deficit, reduce healthcare costs, tackle the climate crisis and promote energy security. all the time we reducing burden and no cause families. maria: joined me to talk about that john lonski. great to see you.
7:13 pm
an admission from president biden that the inflation reduction act is not reduced at all. it may have added to it. your reaction. >> you are correct, inflation reduction not is a great example for a misnomer. with the government of the inflation reduction act is for tens of billions of dollars into the economy for the purpose of renewable energy trying to boost the electrical vehicle industry. it is going to add to government regulation. it's going to add to labor market regulation. here's the problem we have a 3.5% unemployment rate. that looks like full employment. if the government applies all the stimulus and all of the regulations amid a three and half% jobless rate historically
7:14 pm
low jobless rate that applies in wages are likely to take off and that will help stoke inflation. maria: we have more inflation readings this week and i want to get your assessment of it, the headline of 3.2% reading on the consumer price index for the month of july was higher for the 3% reading in june. the producer price index reading of 2.4% in july was higher than the month before as well. we do have the inflation readings tick higher. due to the price of oil at elevated levels, how do you assess these numbers? >> we get is the higher monthly rate of headline price inflation fairly soon because of costlier oil and energy. it so happens often when energy
7:15 pm
prices move higher, some of the prices of other goods because of higher transportation cost. we have to be ready for that. as i said earlier we cannot become dismissive about price inflation will we have a historically low unemployment rate. we have a situation instead of slowing domestic spending picks up speed, you can be practically certain that we are going to be looking at a much higher price inflation. we are not looking at wage growth annually, what is it 4.4%. when i look at the recent labor 10% annual wage increases for industry, the state of pennsylvania, workers are getting a 5% annual increase. i don't think we're going to be looking at a slower rate of wage growth but a faster rate of wage growth, that's only going to boost cost but is can lead consumers in a better condition
7:16 pm
to absorb higher prices so we end up with what is called a wage price spiral. maria: we are expecting that we still have all the spending, you mentioned the spending their, the president is asking for more money from congress which we just talked about with jason smith. john, it's great to have you. we appreciate your time. john lonski joining us. funding the taliban, two years with the botched withdrawal from afghanistan. startling new reports this week showing how much taxpayer money we are sending to the terrorist group who took over. a former green beret on how working to resolve and rescue an afghan ally save the lives of americans but was abandoned by our government. the story next. it's not just designed to look good...

habib and we were trying to do everything in our community in a green beret team and it was so difficult in the first weeks and months. because of his intelligence and special forces background, he had to be very careful of going through checkpoints and ultimately we were able to get them on one of the planes due to failure of evacuation plan. there needs to be serious discussion of policies about those individuals who serve next americans, save lives of americans to come here legally and to be honest habib is an a man to give greater gdp to america. he wants to work and serve the americans that he loves and to fulfill our mission. maria: john, let me thank you and your team the green berets for the incredible work you have done in defense of our great country.
